[Q] How do I improve battery life ie what tweaks work? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm using Snipers PACMAN, and battery just seems to drain way to fast. It is the latest push. Being newly registered on here I hate to introduce my self this way but I need advice. What tweaks are being used by people for the SPH-D710 to help with this issue? I originally started with the CM 10.1 rom and found I had no data, flashed a different modem. Still no data, switched roms and now have data....go figure! But the battery drain is killing me, I've got it throttled back as far as I can go and it still be a daily driver. So anyone have any suggestions?

Godlys Comadose Tweak pack works great:thumbup:
Give it a shot and thank him while you're over there...here's the link

OK....now I'm lost as to which to try and use.....reading the posts to the provided links seems to give contradictory information as to where to start this journey.....

Most 4.2 Roms use ICS modems. As for battery us betterbatterystats found here on xda or gsam in the play store to determine if there's any rogue apps keeping the phone from sleeping. I also do manual syncing. Greenify is a great app to keep apps from running on their own. You can also use a custom kernel to limit max frequency and even undervolt. Kernels also come with different governors

After reading through the above posts you should have some useful ideas about what this governor does.Also...as for installing a governor, they will be included in the kernel that flashed with ur rom or a kernal of ur choosing(MAKE SURE IT WILL WORK WITH THE ROM YOU HAVE) Im new to this, so if there is another way I dont know about it. Do ur research... As for setting a governor.. There are many roms with built in performance controls as well as many apps to set them. I suggest (set cpu) . It has a setting that will make a zip so u can recover from ur settings if u bootloop. This is found after u install and give it root permission. Hit ur menu button and click SAFE MODE. You should have a nandroid; always and just because.I hope this helps.. Remember...Read...Read...Read..lol.. Good Luck. Also read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005306

You identify yourself as "new to this" but you nailed this post 110%!! Many people would do well to take what you said here to heart. If they did there would be MANY fewer "help me" threads.

Thank You...... I went ahead and added another link for him to read. I hope it helps. As to what you said, I like to think of myself as the poster child for the search button..lol..I think if you do the research it makes you feel better when it works and it is more likely to stick with you. This site is so great about that because there is just so much knowledge here to learn.I think some people get over-whelmed by it though or they are just unsure and need that go ahead push to know it works.

Ok since I can't ask a Dev a question about the kernel I want to install.....which I kinda understand, but being stuck not being able to ask questions about something specific after reading all the pages blows! Well, you're commenting on a thread about battery life, but not posting about battery life. That's not going to help you much.
I also read that you want to ask a question, but I don't see a question in your post. If you do have a question, a great place to post it would be here: [Official] One Stop FAQ Thread - Noob Friendly (All questions go here). Okay? :good:

Well let me clarify it for you, it's my thread. The original question is still valid being as I was pointed this direction by a reply to my original post. Let me lessen your confusion on this matter......What other steps can I take to increase battery life......scripts didn't seem to help and a tweaked kernel put me in a boot loop....and whom do I ask if not the DEV?

Hey bro, easy on the tone. Because there are so many ways to ask the question, the best way is to just spell it out how you did above. Battery life depends on the apps/ROM/user all at the same time. I am on Project X ROM. It has Crossbreeder installed. Now I am not no where informative about that app other than a lot of people like it. So with that being said and it is installed on the ROM, I leave it. I also have ROM Toolbox Pro. I have adjusted my CPU control to 1000MHZ. I also have DS Battery Saver Pro set to custom and to kill all apps when the screen goes off. Last the ROM I am on comes with Greenify. A great app in saving battery. I also turn off data and only have WIFI on when I need it. No need to just let things run. With that I have had 50% battery life left after 11 hrs. That is my setup and may not work for you. The main thing is to understand that battery life for EACH phone is different no matter how many common denominators people may have. Team Venum did a comparison of ROM's and their respective battery life. I don't know the post, but if you type "battery life" in the search, then I am sure you can find it. As for you response, I was in your shoes at one time. It does help to be specific in your questions. Not saying that you weren't. Reading each and every post will get tiresome, but if you type in what you want in the search, you will get a slew of post to get info. I have only been a member for 4 months, but I have learned how to flash a ROM, Mods, push and app, setup custom home screen. I have even been given the honor of testing a ROM. If you still need help, you can PM me and I will do what I can. Have a great one.

Thanks Gil, this is exactly what I have done.
1. flashed from 4.03 to WILD-FOR-THE-NIGHT-07052013-d710, had no data....tried to find a fix for that...gave up after trying tweaks to help with the battery issue and no data.
2. Clean install of d710_PAC_JB_4.2.2-v23.0.0_20130719-015400, now have intermittent data, wifi works, blutooth works, flashed Fl24 modem with no apparent improvement in data connectivity, thought after reading a kernel flash might fix issues, here comes the boot loop....flashed smdk4412_p4 waited patiently for 2hrs watching Pacman chasing ghosts.....booted into recovery and ran my backup tried it 2 more times on clean flashs gave up after 5 hrs. By clean I mean wipe/reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install from zip.
3. this is how I installed the kernel:
Make a backup
Download .zip to PC
Transfer .zip to sdcard
Reboot to recovery
Flash
Phone automatically rebooted after install
waited and waited......boot back into recovery. restore by backup.
everything has been done with CWM based recovery. I'm stumped....frustrated to no end......

First off...I have had the lzp_4 boot loop on me. I pulled the battery, waited about 2 min. Put it back in and booted to recovery. Then I wiped cache and dalvik. Rebooted and it took off(booted fine). I have no idea why or how, but this worked for me. Now to my main concern. If you came straight from ics to a jb rom I think this is going to cause you issues, if you hadn't been on jb before. I suggest the one - click full restore(it wipes data,so back-up you're internal memory). This will get you're phone partition right for jb. After this. I think you should be able to flash what you want with no problems. I didn't see a problem with how you flashed. Wipe cache and dalvik on the kernal flashes you do.Here's the link for the one -click..
go to linked page and click on download ota at top of page
I would read through the page it sends you to well.Don't forget to thank those guys..Hope this helps.Hit me up if it doesn't.

Doing a one click restore worries me, I'm not on sprint any more and worried about losing my flash to my current carrier. Is this a concern I should have since I'm not used to working with odin? I'm more than willing to try another ROM also, I'm not locked into this by any means.....

The carrier should not matter if you are on an E4GT phone. But if your trying to go to a JB ROM, you will need to aupdate to GB** for your phone. For sprint it is GB27. Have you tried RWilco12's repository to see if your carrier is listed? Also QBKing77 has a lot of videos concerning this specific phone. How to flash specific ROMs and upgrading specific build, modems and such. Something has got to work for you.

Well now I'm stuck on Sprints 4G boot screen just keeps looping.....WTH.....I've never had a phone be a pain like this....guess I let it kill the battery and see what happens. Recovery is there, not cwm so can't even restore my backup. I'm just frustrated by this phone! Gill, bigmike any idea which way to turn now?

What ROM did you flash? Was it ICS or Jellybean? What carrier are you on. That was never revealed.
Never kill the battery. I sed you tried" Wild for the night" and Pac something. Can you get to recovery?

Just rooted my E4GT, and I have a question:

I want to install the Blazer ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363071), but I'm new to rooting and flashing ROMs onto my device as this is my first Android device ever.
I was watching qbking77's video on installing the Blazer ROM, and he said that I needed CWM 5.0.2.7, but I believe he also said somewhere in the comments on some of his other videos that Rouge doesn't work as well as the (normal?) CWM 5.0.2.7? Is this true? Because I followed Zedomax's tutorial to root and install CWM and he uses Rogue, so I was wondering if this would mess with my phone at all.
Also, I heard that using the stock EL29 rom is usually unstable when installing ICS ROMs and that I should flash EL26 if I plan on using any ICS ROMs. Would it also be bad to try flashing the Blazer ROM without flashing an EL26 ROM and/or regular CWM or can I just go ahead and flash Blazer with my stock rooted EL29 E4GT with Rogue CWM 5.0.2.7?
Long story short: Can I just flash the Blazer ROM from stock EL29 Rooted with Rogue CWM 5.0.2.7 or do I need/should to do other things before attempting to flash this ROM? I've heard bad things about Rogue CWM and EL29 vs EL26 and regular CWM.
Thanks.
CWM won't be too picky, I have used standard cwm attached below and have not had problems with any flash so far, except CM9 {alot of people do, you will learn that}, anyway, follow OP install instructions and you will be fine, make sure to grab Calk's Format script in the OP. You should be on your new home screen in no time at all. If you get any FC's at first, try going back to CWM and Fix Permissions, Reboot and should be good.

So I shouldn't need to do anything other than get standard CWM (aside from the OP's instructions, of course)? Also, how can I go about getting standard CWM and getting rid of Rogue?
And what is an "FC?" Sorry, I don't know all the terminology yet, but I read and watch a lot of videos daily about all of this stuff to try and learn as much as possible. His instructions just seem very vague for people that are new to rooting and installing custom ROMs.

Correct, download the file I attached, it has EL26, its rooted and the CWM is present - Make sure you do this with Odin 1.85, put it in the PDA position and uncheck the AUTO RE-BOOT option. You will then have to wait for it to Pass, but should only be a few seconds, unplug, pull bat and reboot holding Volume+ and Power.
FC= Force Close
They seem vague at first, but mainly due to alot of jargon your not familiar with yet.
Anyway, I hoped I helped you, if I did hit the thanks button.

Okay, and where can I find Odin 1.85? Or can I just use the exact same Odin program that I rooted with (using Zedomax's root method on SPH-D710 to root to stock EL29)?
And, let me see if I'm understanding this all correctly (please be patient with me ):
1. I run Odin 1.85
2. click PDA (I'm assuming is an option/button in Odin), and uncheck Auto-boot
3. select the EL26 file you included and click start(?)
4. wait for it to pass, then unplug the phone (should still be turned on at this point?)
5. pull bat (I assume you mean select the file for EL26 included in e4gtauto.zip Zedomax provided?)
6. reboot by going into CWM and selecting reboot.
Correct?
And I shouldn't have to do anything to delete Rogue CWM? Just these above steps?

I am not sure where the 1.85 odin file is on XDA, but I have attached, below, still learning my way around here too.
SS= Screen Shot - See attached.
your steps are good, except I meant pull battery, not really necessary, but I usually forget to move my files to my sd card, so I end up pulling it anyway.
Once you get the PASS in odin, you will then hold in power for 8 seconds and hold Volume+ button at the same time {or pull battery and do same}.
That will put you into CWM, then go to install zip from SD > Choose Zip File from External SD, grab your Calkulin file, run it, then go back and run the ROM file and Reboot!
You should be good to go from there.

Alright, so after following the steps that you gave me, I just need to copy all of the files the OP posted onto my SD card and follow his steps?
Sorry I'm so bad at this, but I really do appreciate you being so patient with me. You're pretty much one of the only people that has actually attempted to help me with a question I've had.
One last question: I don't need to do anything to remove Rogue CWM before following your steps, do I? I didn't want to try anything until I was sure about this because I'm incredibly scared of bricking my phone as this is my first time ever doing anything like this.
Thank you so much for your help so far, though. I've thanked all of your posts along the way, and I really do appreciate it.

Correct, once you flash the el26 file from above, Rogue will be gone, you will reboot to recovery, flash Calkulin, flash ROM, reboot, rejoice!
Not a problem, I understand how it can be frustrating, still waiting on an answer to my question I posted to the XDA.
Good luck and remember google is your friend too! Just search XDA and then what your looking for and you will likely get an answer somehow.

It worked, thank you so much! I'm now enjoying this wonderful Blazer ICS ROM thanks to you.
I've "thanked" your post again, and I just wanted to say again how much I appreciate your help tonight. You have no idea how long I've been waiting to get help on all sorts of different ROMs (not necessarily here, but in other places - it's been about 2 and a half weeks and basically no one has replied to me other than Qbking once and Zedomax once), so once again, I thank you.
Cheers, friend! Good luck on your question, I'd attempt to help, but I clearly don't know much about Android. XD I wish I could help!

Haha, I bet. I'm already loving this ROM, the theming is really minimalistic, everything is stable, and I can just install Apex Launcher if I want the stock ICS experience. I'm here at my parents house for summer break, and I live in Florida for college. I don't really have access to a windows PC there since I have a Macbook Pro (courtesy of Full Sail University), and I didn't really want to deal with all the bs you have to go through on a mac to root the phone and stuff so I just waited for summer break, so getting your help this early in my break was amazing because this means I can try out other ROMs now that I know what to do if I feel so.
I'll be using your tutorial for the rest of my family's phones as well since they all got incredibly interested when I told them I could update the phone for them before Sprint did, haha. Plus, my mom loves the idea of the Wifi tethering for free, so she was pretty much sold the second I said that.
Thanks again! I already love Android 100x more than iOS (I'm coming from an iPhone) because of the ability to customize literally anything about the OS.
You are most definitely welcome, I would be more than happy to help in the future too, but do try Nova Launcher, its quite slick, easy to customize and I haven't seen a bit of lag out of it period.
Im posted up in my basement working, while the wife and kids sleep anyways.

I'm using Apex right at the moment, but I've heard great reviews about Nova. I'll definitely try it out tomorrow when I get some time, and I have to set up the wifi network on this phone. We live a little outside the city here and the 3G/4G speeds get pretty awful in certain spots for them. Back in Orlando for myself, however, they're really fast.
But yeah, I'll definitely check out Nova. Maybe I can still refund Apex. XD
KloudIX - Thank you so much for your helpful replies in this thread! Have you gotten as far as rooting his phone yet? What "gotcha's" are you referring too, sorry for the delayed response. Been busy. Once you get him rooted follow the OP for Blazer Rom and flip back and forth through here if you have questions. JellyTime Opinions

Hello!
Im wondering about JellyTime, Is it good or bad/very buggy?
Since im very intrested about it i want others opinion.
Also im new to this rooting and new ROM installs.
Thanks!
Well, it is a beta Rom, so it will have bugs. I use it as my main rom knowing it has some minor flaws. If you need a full running device you might want to read the thread a little before flashing this. Most of us flashing this are "Flashaholics" and don't mind flashing a new version everyday if needed. I'd say flash it to see what it's like, and then make your own decision. Only you will know if you like it. This goes for any Rom.
Edit:

Ohhh okay ^^ is it possible to install the rom at the sametime as i root? sorreh im newb at this :3:highfive:
After you root, make a backup of your rom. Before flashing (download rom to sd card-remember where it was stored), reboot in recovery.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Wipe dalvik.
Format all partitions (except sd card).
Install from sd card.
Flash rom (search for the download)
Reboot.
The above is sorta the correct way of doing it afterwards. Most of us don't do it.
Wait 5-10 minutes.
Reboot.
Configure all you need to configure.
Install your apps.
Reboot.
If you want to know the issues of a rom, read the op(first page) and read the last 5-10 pages.
All ics - jb roms have bugs. Won't be long till they are fixed.
Gb roms are stable on the most part.
Search for 4ext touch recovery, it's the prefered one.

Alright buddy, last one. After this you nees to start reading and searching for your own answers. Almost anything you can think of has already been posted.
It's called gapps. It's a zip file with several google apps. Flash the same as when you flash a rom. No wipe necessary.

jellytime is moving very fast towards stability...
Even now its beta 110 could be used as a daily driver if you ignore some minor things..Bluetooth is the only major problem in it..other than that,it is smooth and really good
TOTAL NOOB here been reading for months now [in the background] and just joined as i think ive finally worked up the courage to brick my HD.
I did see a question asking about "best roms" am after an easy stable and fully working combination tho, would love jellybean and fully understand its still in beta. I think more noobs would attempt stuff if it wasnt so damn confusing with regards options and bolt ons.
Ive been Useing JellyTime since yesterday and i love it, the only complaint i have at this moment is that when i lock the screen and unlock it after more than 5 min it takes up to 5-10 seconds for it to start. Maby fixed in new Beta 10. ill try install it later today or tomorrow.

The Desire HD/Inspire 4G are virtually un-brickable as long as you are not ENG-OFF. Once you start flashing roms it all will become like second nature. Everything will start to get easier(more confidence comes too ) Just keep doing what you are doing (reading the threads). I wish some people did this more before posting.

You need to use catchpa for about the first 10 posts. then it should disapear.
This ROM is outstanding. I started with Beta 8 and it was great–at least for the first few days before Beta 9 came out. And now that Beta 10 is out, I'm going to flash that ASAP.
Then great thing about this ROM is that Randomblame just can't seem to give himself any downtime, although he does find time to spend with his family. As long as the ROM works and he isn't going crazy from it, that's alright with me.

[Q] Stock camera not working [LG Optimus Me P350]

Let me give you a little background.
Few days back, I rooted my phone. Then I used Titanium Backup to uninstall apps which I thought were not useful like LG TV, Email- should not have done that
Then the phone was somehow did not boot. I looked up internet and tried something- got worse: Emergency mode with yellow screen. Went ahead to a local phone repair shop and he exploited me well to hand me back the phone in working condition
NOW... the problem is camera does not work. It shows a black screen everytime I launch it. Going in Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All , Camera shows 0 bytes !
Searching on internet I found that I should not have uninstalled the Email app.
Please share some ideas on how I can help myself here. Any help will be appreciated.
PS- I am using Ubuntu on my computer and Froyo.
Holy hell! I had the same problem a long time ago! (Except no uninstalling was involved) It forced my dad to buy me a new phone.

Try installing a custom rom, like cyanogenmod
There are multiple ROMs for the LGOME and they have been behaving as any other ROM for any other phone.

@op
download custom recovery then
boot you phone into fastboot by pressing vol up + call + power button then use
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img
then
fasboot reboot
then download any custom rom that you want and flash that
it will solve your problem
ps: do a google search for more info on fastboot use

ohh i yeah i forgot your toolkit by some funny things
Cleaned thread.
OP, I would advise, as you ask questions like the one you posted, verify the information posted before you attempt anything. If someone says that if you install a custom ROM on your device, it'll brick; go to the DEV threads, and check out other peoples experiences. You should also spend a ton of time researching before you start messing with your device. MOST of the big trouble people get into is not reading and asking enough questions. If you want to root, find out how to do it, AND how to fix it if it breaks, before you flash a custom ROM, find out how to do it AND how to get back to stock if you need to. The more you learn, the less the chances are that you'll end up in trouble

I think I did that mistake earlier. Read something about rooting and went straight ahead to brick the phone. I am hoping to have a clearer understanding of things this time. Since I am newbie, it will take effort. But this forum has so many experts and people are willing to contribute- I am sure I will learn a lot in the company of you guys.
I will dive in the DEV threads as you adviced. Thank you so much guys You are all my Santa Claus

If I use this thread, would it fix my camera ? I am not sure HOW should I install though, but of all the things I have read around here, it seems this might help. Please give your views whether I should go with this
If yes, could you please point me some link with detailed instructions ( the post assumes I know the HOW part ) ?
If you are using Froyo, give a try on it. Follow carefully the steps to how flash a ROM. If you already has an recovery, life is easier. If not, search on net about it =D

[Q] Motoblur'd rom update and issues

Hello,
I am considering updating my gingerbread based ROM on my old EVO 4g (I am currently running Cyanogen mod 7.1)...
Its been a very long time since I've flashed a ROM to my phone, but I have been wanting to upgrade to an ICS/JB ROM for a while because (amongst other things) I hear that these android 4.0 ROMs are better when it comes to battery life.. As you can probably tell, I am not one of these folks that re-flashes their rom every week so I may be a bit rusty with this and I am a little bit intimidated. While I would like to try something new I also am a bit worried that my lack of experience may cause me to make a mis-step and mess up my phone..
The ROM I am looking at right now is the new release of MotoBlur'd, found here: .. I understand that this ROM is based on CyanogenMod 10, and since it seems I cannot get a version of the raw CM10 directly to install on my phone, perhaps MotoBlur'd is the next best thing...
But before I open up this can of worms and go off and wipe my phone and flash this new rom, I had 3 questions which I hope someone with experience can answer
1) All other things being equal, would this actually help with the battery life, over the Gingerbread based CM 7.1?
2) Is it still the case that Netflix and other video viewing apps do not work with this (or any other ICS/JB) ROM?? They mention it in the android dev thread, but no one has confirmed that these things work or not work.
3) Do I have to peroform any extra steps or install anything else (other than what is shown in the instructions) to move the phone from CM 7.1 to the latest Motoblur'd ?? For example do I need to install an ICS based ROM first before JB? Or can I just flash directly to this ROM??
Hopefully I can do this without causing too much damage or requiring too much help from the users in this forum... Of course any advice or suggestions anyone can give me would help...
Thanks
TPK2013

Excellent guide, Hipcat... I think this will really be helpful to me... As someone who doesn't do this all the time, it can really help to have a guide like that to cover all the bases.. I know we are supposed to try to search for the stuff that we need to know, but sometimes its hard to know even what we need to know, and sometimes the multitudes of information we find is contradictory or out of date, so this really helps..
I found a broken link on it, so I posted that as a reply in your thread (I hope thats okay)...
I think I may just stick with my GB based rom, as much as I would like to monkey around with ICS or JB.. I guess I don't see the sense of switching if it won't help my battery life and if it will prohibit the use of video playing apps (which, I know, suck a lot of battery)..
The biggest problem for me is the battery life (I found several contradictory explainations on how to calibrate the battery, I will try the one found in your guide next), but mainly I believe my problem is that I have too much garbage loaded on the phone (not reloading after a year and a half can do that), and a lot of stuff loads in the background so that is probably affecting my battery life.. Also I don't think I am using the most up-to-date radio, which is probably causing the most battery drain of all... So I am going to try the following...
1) I am going to (actually I already have) upgrade my radio to 2.15.00.01.15
2) As per your, and honda's suggestion I will try to update my recovery to smelkus 4.3 (I think I am using clockwork recovery right now, although I am not sure if that is the same thing or not)..
3) I will try to re-format and re-partition my SD card and attempt to install A2SD so I can have more room for apps (can I use A2SD with CM 7?)
4) I will wipe everything, and reload to CyanogenMod 7.2 (perhaps this will work better than 7.1) and reload about half the apps I have on there now (only the stuff I am using now)..
If battery life is my main concern, is there a better ROM I should be using??? I picked CM in the first place because it was an AOSP (no frills, no extra garbage) ROM, however I haven't been able to update my PRL (havent ever updated it, probably)...
Thanks again for your response... You and your guide have been quite helpful...

Yep, I fixed that link and what you said is why I wrote that guide; because searching can be a real pain in the @ss sometimes. It's like a teacher telling you to look up a word you can't spell. Well how do you search for an answer if you're not really sure of the question?? lol
You cant update your PRL on any non-stock rom. It has to be stock for you to be able to do that
Well if battery life is your main concern I always suggest a good sense 3.0 ROM. If you are worried about bloat that can be removed. If you want I can hook you up with a rom/kernel combo with everything you want.
When I am not testing or making a new rom I use sense 3.0 and can get 8 hrs of heavy use on stock battery. Thats netflix with 3-4 hrs use plus web surfing and calls during the rest. On my extended battery with light use I can get 4+ days.
If you would like to try my rom pm me before you partion your sdcard. There are certain things you need to do for it to work right.

Perhaps I will go to stock and try to update the PRL before I go ahead and update the ROM to custom... However, this Evo is on Boost Mobile (not Sprint) network, so I am not sure how to appropriately update the PRL... Should I just update it as if it were a regular Sprint Evo 4g or does it matter?

Umm updating prl only requires the *228 call from the phone and it works on any rom. Now to put a custom or older prl it takes a bit more. Updating your profile now that I do believe you have to be on a Sprint rom but I don't have Sprint so I can't say for sure.

Never heard of that *228, so cant say anything about that
Updating profile and prl I've always seen and heard can only be done on stock, unless you use this ##codes apps I saw somewhere....
The ## codes only work on the sprint roms. To change prls on AOSP roms you need a windows pc with qpst setup and prl files on the pc. Then you have to enable diagnostic mode through adb or a terminal emulator. There is a thread here on our EVO forum to do it. I will bump it so you can check it out. It sure beats all the backing up and restoring to do it.
Edit: I bumped it. It is in the dev section.

Found the thread, thanks!!
Now I just have to figure out which PRL file to use for my Evo on Boost, and where to find it (I think this is what stopped me from updating the PRL before, not knowing if I should use a sprint PRL or something else)...
Edit: I did find this thread regarding boost PRLs on EVO
And if there is indeed an app that emulates the ## commands, I would like to know what that is...
... TPK2013
Heck if your on boost you need a boost prl. You can Google boost prls and find dozens of them. I would suggest using the latest one. Just dial *228 and it will update your prl. After it finishes reboot your phone. It is really that simple. I do it on my cricket flashed EVO but it works for every service provider.

No wifi
I love love love this ROM, it's incredibly fast, I've got the debloated version. But I have no wifi on it. The wifi stays off and when I try to turn it on it flips right back to off again. Any suggestions? I wiped, cache, dalvik, everything before and after and reinstalled once. Will reinstall again.
I'm using TWRP vs CWM-would that make a difference?

Not sure about the wifi, haven't had any trouble on mine. N5110, right?
I have Philz on mine but don't see why TWRP wouldn't be fine... What rom were you on before?

I had tried several, but wipe completely each time. It might've been one of the Lollipops right before. I wondered if it had anything to do with the kernal? I don't know much about that aspect of it.

Yes kernel controls hardware related things including wifi if I'm not mistaken. Which kernel are you using? The stock kernel included with the rom or a custom kernel?

I didn't ever specifically change kernels (if that's possible). I just installed 4 or 5 different ROMs over the course of the past few wks to see which I liked. I made back ups of my original stock/rooted ROM and several that I liked. I've got SlimKat ROM on here now, would it do any good for me to go into settings and see which kernel it is? Probably not, I suspect.

Ok no that's cool. Yes it's possible to change kernels, but since you didn't flash a different one that means you had the stock kernel (which is included with the rom and works fine). Just to be sure, you have the N5110 model, right?

Ok cool thanks. Really not sure what the wifi issue on your setup might be. Works fine here and for other users as far as I see. I did a quick Google searche and the top solutions seem to be a factory reset, the "wifi fixer" app in the Play Store, or possibly trying different settings/channels/reboot on your router. If nothing works, then it might be because something got corrupted in the base over time by flashing different TW/AOSP ROMs, in which case it might be worthwhile to Odin stock firmware from sammobile and then install this rom and test. Might be more hassle for you than it's worth (especially if your other ROMs already work fine), but just trying to provide options lol. You could also try Regular instead of Debloated to see if there is any difference in wifi for you there.

I appreciate your input very much! I love this rom. I've got it installed again messing around with it while the Regular version is downloading. (I'm bestowed with slow rural internet). I'll let you know if Regular works better. It's probably going to bug me enough as to why it doesn't work that I'll go to the trouble of going back to stock, re-downloading and trying it fresh

Sounds good! Yeah it's a bit of a hassle but at least you have other roms to fall back on worst case, but i'll admit this is kinda bugging me too so if you get to the bottom of it please let me know . [emoji106] . Thanks again for the positive feedback btw, happy to hear the rom's working out (aside from your wifi)

Enable Android Encryption
Has anyone been able to successfully enable android encryption using this rom? I tried with the Deodexed version, safe boot, turning off SuperSU and haven't been able to get it to start encrypting properly. I need it since I have policy looking for encrypted state before I can allow mail to be made available.
Many thanks in advance!

Not sure... does it work fine on other rooted deodexed roms?
wifi won't turn on
Hi, I've flashed both the regular version and the debloated version on my N5110 after clean wipes.
The wifi will not turn on in either case.
I've done factory resets from within settings.
Any ideas?
I've read the thread, the Q&A thread, and done a google search to no avail....
I'm coming from stock 4.2.2 (rooted and unlocked of course) where everything worked... it just seemed to have a pretty short battery life.
I've reinstalled the nandroid backup and wifi still works there.
I'd really like to try this.
Thanks for your hard work as a developer by the way

Not sure...Works fine here but I saw another user report this a while back. The others said all working fine so I'm assuming something may have got corrupted on your setup along the way. Perhaps you can try using odin to flash the latest stock firmware for your device from sammobile.com, then try installing twrp through odin and finally my rom through twrp. Best way to eliminate variables and start fresh

Worked for me. Nice smooth Rom... thank you I hope this saves me from constant looping unrooted stock provided. Although battery life seems to still drain quickly. Any thoughts?
Edit to say im having a slight issue with the tablet shutting down on its own when not in use.

Thanks for confirming! Yes flashing different roms can corrupt system files so a fresh odin install is always a good way to start clean. No issues here with the tablet shutting down..could possibly be due to a rogue app conflicting with something or an xposed module. As for battery life I agree. Not worse than stock but not better either. The built-in battery is now also probably less efficient than it used to be, as they all do over time. Sammy should have put a bigger battery in this tablet!

I did a battery pull and that help a great deal with the battery life . Also I don't think I have had the issue of shutting down maybe the rom needed to settle in lol. I don't know but all is well now thank you so much for this rom. My tablet isn't trash anymore.

Hello sefrcoko
my Note N5110 currently has the stock fw 4.2.2.
Once I have root and custom recovery, can I directly flash your rom?
Or I have to flash the stock fw 4.4.2 before your rom?
Thanks a lot
Bye
