I didn't have the icon folder either for some reason (version 3.01). Had to make my own. Looks great though, thanks OP!

Your welcome. Thought I'd share because I think it makes it look better.

I like ubudao best as well , thx for the set. Two and a half years after the last post, this thread is still the 1st search result for "icon set for root explorer".  Btw, if you don't have the SpeedSoftware folder you probably deleted it at some point as it's automatically created by the app upon installation, going back to the earliest versions. But other than for icon sets, the folder is only used by the app for .zip (or .tar) archive creation/extraction. Look at your preferences under "Archive Preferences" and see if you redirected the path elsewhere; if so, you likely then deleted the SpeedSoftware folder, or did so at some later point. If the archive paths still include "SpeedSoftware" you just haven't used the app for archiving purposes, as the paths specified in Archive Preferences will be recreated on the fly if they're absent at the time the app's archiving function is invoked.

I'm not sure if there's an app for that, or a way to change the icons, but you can rename them. Just open the folder you created and hold down on the title bar that says "Folder". Now just type in your new folder name.

Those are forbidden words in the android community. This is NOT an iphone.
@OP: search the market for any cut or better cut. They allow creation/renaming of shortcuts to anything, as well as using custom icons... for folders as well.

You don't need any app to just change the folder name though.
I found Apps Organizer to work the best. You make a shortcut, name it, then scroll a list of your installed apps and check off which to add to it. After your done you can change the icon to a custom icon downloaded from a any free or paid icon pack. Best of all it's free!
How do you change the folder icon with any/bettercut? I haven't ever been able to figure that out. I thought I actually read once that it wasn't possible

[Solved]Where is phone dock icon?

I have been using 7zip to replace icons for my docked apps. The only one that has eluded me so far is the phone icon. I found the stock green phone icon in res\drawable and replaced it but it did not change on the app or dock. Usually the icon for others was in res\drawable-hdpi. Soooo my question is where the heck is the one I need to change. Thanks.
I believe its in dialertabactivity.apk
Thats where it takes the icon from

Now, any idea where that default apps icon is stored? The white 16 square rectangle that Zeam, launcher and LP use? Is it in Framework-res? I can't find it in Zeam so think it is in the system somewhere. Thanks.

Zeam. It's not in the drawable-hdpi where I found all my other icons for apps.
The way I do it sometimes it just open the apk with 7zip, the take the res folder and drag it to the desktop, or whatever, open it in windows, and change the view to large icons, then you can look at all the images in the apk and find what you want.

Yeah, that is what I have been doing, but Zeam has so many drawables... I guess I have no choice but to look at them all. Really though the apps icon was a system default a lot of launchers used.
Got it! Had a wierd name action_apps_grid or something like that. Thanks for the help. I have made my phone my own now...

The numbers are in framework-res.apk inside of the res/drawable-hdpi folders. The images that your looking for are towards the bottom but there really noticeable. U just need something like PhotoShop or Gimp to change the color from white to whatever u want. I'm on my way home from work so if u need more help than that let me know and I'll do my best. I no longer have a pc but I'll do my best to walk u through it.

Thanks Tiff, I have Photoshop on my PC so I'm going to give it a try on my own, if I get stuck I'll drop you a line. I guess I can use root explorer to access the files. Maybe I can put of Graphic Design skills to work and learn something in the process. Hopefully I can post some progress and help someone else out.

Got it, looking at tutorials on how to use. I guess i'll be "unpacking" files, copy file to 7zip, modify, save as a zipfile and then install with CWM?

It doesn't have the color in the name. They are just images so you'll have to use the image editing software of choice to change the color. If u open the drawable-hdpi folder on your PC you'll be able to see all the images inside. What I do is use 7zip to decompile/extract the apk. Then I make my changes. Then I highlight the full apk that hasn't been extracted, right click it, go up to 7zip on the menu that pops up and when u click on 7zip another folder will pop up. Choose “open archive“, I believe that's what its called. Then a folder will open up and you'll be able to see everything inside of the apk just like if u were looking at it when it was extracted. Double click on the Res folder, then highlight the drawable-hdpi and click delete. Now go get the drawable-hdpi folder that has the changes u made and drag it inside of the window that u just deleted from. Now just click the x to close that window and the apk will still be intact but it will have all the changes u made. Drop it in a flashable zip, boot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvik and flash. If your not sure about the flashable zip let me know and I'll see if I can put it together from my phone for u. Hopefully that made a little bit of sense to u. If not let me know and I'll try and do a better job explaining it.

So I would start by making a copy of the drawable-hdpi in /res / folder in framework-res apk and opening it up in 7Zip on my PC. Finding the png's pertaining to the clock zzz_unlock_clock_3_.png for example, export into photoshop change color, then replace original png's with new colored ones. Do I make sence.
The good thing about the lockscreen clock images is, you don't have to decompile them to edit them. Also, (if youre feeling savvy) you can decompile framework-res.apk, then go to framework-res.apk/res/layout and edit the color codes in "zzz_keyguard_screen_clock_gb.xml" and "zzz_keyguard_screen_glasslockinfo.xml" to make the lockscreen text match the clock. You can use Google to find color codes.
One eye closed, other yawning, time to hit the sack.

Ok, cool. You're good to go on modding lockscreen clock images. Didn't know if you were on an ICS ROM, or not.
This is making my brain hurt. 7Zip works great with Adobe CS5,it imports into Adobe Bridge and it displays all the images associated with the files, makes for quick editing in Photoshop. Having trouble finding clock fonts, that display date on lock screen. Clock part was easy, numbers, colens.

Is there any way to theme the Messaging app....

Without having to download THIS messaging app? The messaging app in my ROM has direct call and a couple of other goodies that I really like... just the colors are very boring and plain! Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.
The standard way of theming is open the mms. Apk in a zip viewer. Either win rar or 7 zip, then find the area that holds folders named draw able hdpi. Extract ONLY THE ICONS AND IMAGES You want to change. Font extract the whole apk. Then, open the images in photo shop or any editing program, change the colors as you please, save, (DONT CHANGE IMAGE NAME OR TYPE), then drop them back into the apk in the folder you found them and save changes to the zip. Once that's does, go into system/app, rename the end of the name .Bak. So apkname.Apk.bak
Then just copy and paste it into system app and then give it correct permissions if it doesn't already and then reboot

I used Handcent since my EVO 3D days but I really like the 4.2.2 Messaging app.... I just hate that I can't theme it. No need for a 3rd party messaging app... I can live with the plain colors, I'd just rather be able to theme it if possible!!
Then if Reapers response is too complicated the answer to your question is then No. There's no other way to do it.

Why wouldn't you just download that app? It makes it a lot easier on you to theme the stuff the way you want. :what:

Different Touchwiz Launcher Grids...

For those looking to have different launcher grids (4x5,5x5,5x6,etc) check out this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2462912
Since we don't have recovery you have to manually push the files...
Download and install another launcher just in case something goes wrong...( Nova,Apex, etc)
BACKUP your stock SecLauncher4.apk and SecLauncher4.odex files from your system/apps folder
1. download the preferred zip
2. extract and copy the launcher grid size you want to use
3. Delete the SecLauncher4.odex from the system/apps folder
4. paste the new SecLauncher4.apk and overwrite the existing one
5. reboot and profit
***Some widgets will not work properly***
Be sure to thank Termit901 in the original thread...
I'm currently using the 5x5 and have had no issues...
