Xperia ZL vs [new] Nexus 7 - Sony Xperia ZL

Just picked up a new Nexus 7 this morning to replace my old N7 and loving it so far, a huge [huge] improvement in performance. Loving the addition of a notification light, wireless charging (plz take note Sony) and a better screen resolution.
Decided to run some benchmarks against my Xperia ZL since they both share the same CPU, GPU and general specs and was surprised to see such a huge discrepancy in the results with Quadrant, but almost identical results with AnTuTu.
The Xperia ZL is running on JB 4.1.2, while the N7 is running JB 4.3. Something tells me the ZL would pull even higher numbers if it was on JB 4.2 and JB 4.3 still.

umm ...zl runs on 4.2 atm
maybe better with 4.3 :good:
one is a tablet n other a phone .. :\

Is it me, or is this like comparing 2 completely different entities for no obvious reason...?
Irrelevant.

The new Nexus 7 doesn't have the same Snapdragon as ZL. It uses a clocked down S600, it is build of Krait 300 not 200. Also memory is different, it's DDR300.

[Q] Huge difference between Samsung ICS & Sony ICS..

One of my frnds own Samsung Galaxy S2 & I have Xperia Arc.. Today I checked the ICS from Samsung & ICS from Sony.. The ICS version of Sony sucks big time. It lags and doesnt have proper functionality whereas Samsung ICS is way far better than Sony and is quite stable with great functionality... Why doesnt Sony learn something from Samsung? I have been a huge fan of Sony since the days of SE K750i handset but now I feel really sad the way Sony is releasing the softwares...
I hope that you was drunk or anything when you wrote this..
The ICS Sony / Sony Ericsson* version is superior to the Samsung one, in every way. Just look how good ICS works on Arc S and compare to S2 model and it's like day and night.
Skickat från min LT18i via Tapatalk 2
Could it be more a Hardware, then software thing?
Galaxy S2 is a dual core at 1.2Ghz, while Arc is single core at 1Ghz
and well that Super AMOLED+ screen...

Whilst it is most certainly true that different manufacturers have their own strengths and weaknesses, the fact that people are unwilling or unable to discuss this like adults means this thread has out-lived it's usefulness.

Should I continue the Sony (Ericsson) streak?

I have been using the Sony (Ericsson) phones since it wasn't running Android. I don't want to loose that streak but I also want to go for the Samsung GSIII or HTC One X. I love how Sony (Ericsson) designed their phones but I also want a good phone for gaming purposes. Games like Modern Combat 3 doesn't run smooth on my Xperia Arc S but it does on my mother's Samsung GSII. Please help. I'll be upgrading my phone in December.
Extra: My post is not the same as the one under mine.

It's up to YOU!
I'll be breaking it.. I'm an SE user since K700 days.. Now, they are not just up-to-date with the latest hardware. Anyways, a dual core phone with 480p display will run games smooth! Or if you're really want a gaming device, I'll suggest S 3..

Hmmm.. I'll think about it. I still accept suggestions.
if your a gamer and you want smooth gaming, i suggest you overclock your phone

Yes I thought of that. Problem is not all kernel provides overclocking while having a Battery Friendly tweak in it. I also, like most users, wants a good battery life. Plus, why are we talking about this? I thought it was about the next phone I am going to choose?
If you REALLY want gaming, get a 3DS/PSVita and a Sony Smartphone. But I assume that by December Sony will release a quad-core phone.

No Exynos or Super Amoled for the Galaxy S4

http://www.sammobile.com/2013/02/23...xynos-inside-new-galaxy-s-iv-with-bootscreen/
the bootscreen is fake, and as with leaks specs can faked as well. The GS3 supposedly had a 13MP camera and a 3mp fromt face cam..... but we all know now that isn't the truth

..... just sayin' .....
I think the note2 once the gs4 come available will drop in price and would be a Better buy. My girl friend got the note 2 and I play around with her phone often and it's hard going back to my phone with no s pen and smaller screen I know what I'm getting.

Sammobile usually is spot on with info. Looks interesting to say the least.
Honestly I'm not mad about the gs4 not having an exynos processor. If anyone has looked at the power consumption for the dual core a15 soc in the n10 it's crazy high. So I could see why samsung would have a hard time getting it into a phone without it overheating or draining the battery. But the loss of a samoled screen is a little more I interesting. I don't know how true it is bit it could be a huge blow. And seeing some of the flexible displays were 5 inch 1080p versions I don't think it's far fetched to think they can't make one that can work in the s4
Would be awesome if it has a snapdragon

I'd take any rumor as of now with a grain of salt. I think Samsung's won the heart of many consumers with their Amoled screen. There's not much wrong with the technology, aside from screen burn in. The colors are so much more vibrant on an Amoled screen than any other.
As for the CPU, that's entirely possible since we've already experienced that with our current device. Wonder what's in store for us this time. Hopefully it's another Qualcomm CPU, since it plays nice with CDMA and EvDo.

[Q] Battery life poor after 4.3 update

On my Galaxy Nexus was 4.2.2 takju version and at rhe time was locked and non rooted.
I have downloaded Google factory image for it. Then I decided to unlock boot loader since I was going to flash factory image.
Everything went well. No trouble at all.
So now I am on unlocked bootloader and still rooted.
But now battery performance seems to be poor (much worse then before).
Any ideas?
Any solutions?

How is that poor battery? If anything that's considered good, especially on a 1750mah battery, what did you expect?

Used to be better on 4.2.2.
Look at the break on blue line which indicate WiFi was off in that period.

Yes, and your screen shows 57% which indicates it clocked almost past 2hrs+ onscreen time. Users need to understand 4.2.2 was a broken firmware there's nothing good about it, which is why the update was skipped for 80% of the OEM smartphones and directly onward to 4.3
Custom kernel's may solve this problem for you but you need to consider the technical aspects and coding that went into this, smooth experience comes at the expense of something, also custom kernels stick to a min freq of 384, stock kernel runs at 500+ and 1026 on the N4. Considerably for mpdecision that handles all the tasks, that's considered good.
Also, how is this general? This should be in the Q&A section.

I thought that I'd mention that 4.3 also dropped the min. frequency on the Galaxy Nexus to 250, IIRC.

[Q] Barebones ROM

Hi there,
I am running CM12 (Lollipop) on my HTC Desire HD and was very excited to see it on there
But now I feel like the experience is choppy at best. Yes I can overclock and underclock but I have a couple questions:
a) Is there a typical process that can be halted that would improve the performance of the phone when running CM12?
b) As an older guy, I'm a little old school. I want to see my old phone be zippy and light (ie getting the most out of the old hardware while maintaining fluidity). Is there a ROM that would be considered barebones...I really need the basics:
- phone, messaging
- connectivity/tethering
- camera
- performance tools/features
- decent battery life
I do no real gaming on my phone (simple games at most)...nor do I watch movies other than occasionally pulling up a video on youtube and or review a vid just recorded
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I feel CM12 was cool, but it seems overkill on this dated hardware
Thanks
