[25-AUG-2013 | UPDATE] BlackOut & ClearOut Packages (Themed Google Apps) - Nexus 7 (2013) Themes and Apps

It's still early and until some more legit mods and ROM's start showing up, I figured I would share a few ZIP's I made for people who want something to flash. Nothing ground-breaking or difficult to reproduce manually, but it's better than another wallpaper thread
It should go without saying that you must be rooted with a custom recovery, but I just said it anyway so please don't ask. The packages will work with odexed and deodexed ROM's.
The theme packages contain:
- Gmail
- Google+
- Hangouts
- Keep
- Play Music
- Play Store
- Search/Now
- GenieWidget
The transparent and inverted APK's are courtesy of @TeamBlackOut, all credit and thanks to them. Visit their website for more installable apps to complete your blacked/cleared-out look. I am not a member of the team or affiliated, I simply packaged them up here for easy Nexus 7 consumption. The script will delete any existing odexed versions in /system/app for clean installation. If you are using the market versions of any of these apps in /data/app, make sure to uninstall them before flashing.

1. Download.
2. Reboot into recovery.
3. Flash the ZIP.
4. Reboot and enjoy.

U think u can make transparent ones ?

Nice work. Installing inverted apps was on of the first things I did, when I set my tablet up. Not trying to hijack your thread, but nitroglycerine33 also makes an inverted GoogleNow that you can find on his Elemental X forums.

I can, but I was really only planning on making a few of these with what I use personally. Titanium BU was not able to uninstall the system apps, so I made these ZIP's to automate the removal of the odexed versions. Then people can install whatever modded versions since the system versions are no longer there. You can install the transparent Music and Gmail right on top of these black versions like a normal app.
I'm not going to make more individual packages, maybe I can make a more comprehensive transparent package and black package that will replace Gmail, Music, Play Store, Search, Plus and Hangouts (I'm not including anything that is not the latest market version).

I'm sure nitro has great versions as always. Did you install Google Now as a user app or did you flash it to /system/app? I've never been sure how deodexed/odexed APK's interact in /system/app, and I know there have been some issues with certain features when installed to /data/app.
I've never been this early of an adopter with any device so I've always been on deodexed ROM's

I'm not sure which ones, but some of the ones that were system apps, I had to use Root Explorer to rename them (I use .old instead of .bak, doesn't really matter) before I could install the inverted ones.

Thread update
Updated OP with new version of BlackOut and ClearOut packages:
- Both packages now contain Google Search and Keep
- BlackOut contains GenieWidget

Updated OP with new version of ClearOut package:
- ClearOut now contains GenieWidget (see new screenshot)

Updated OP with new version of BlackOut and ClearOut packages:

Ok all updates uploaded, it's a long list so it's easier to get them from the recently updated page. Some of the updated apps have newer versions but nothing huge so just ignore the update message in the playstore until we get to them. KitKat links added as well.
New apps will be added once I get some rest...unless @BBoytm wants to do them...lol
Enjoy!

This should work on all devices but use at your own risk. We are not responsible for anything you do to your device. We have provided this mod for entertainment purposes and have not tested it on every device. Due to this, flashing this is at your own risk, and by going further into this post, you agree that whatever happens to your device is on you. We are not responsible if you do not read this post completely and break your phone. We are not responsible if you do read, and your phone breaks anyway. Flash at your own risk! If your significant other leaves you because you become more addicted to your phone, it's all on you. If you wake up one day and notice that you've been turned into a black and white speckled jellybean, then maybe you can blame us.
Why should you use this?
The benefit to using inverted applications is a guaranteed improvement of battery life over noninverted applications on LED displays. Not only that, but they are much easier on your eyes. Have a look at this thread for more details.
We present to you....JusTunBean Inverted Gapps +!!!!!!
Directions For Aroma:
Aroma is a custom installer that will allow you, the user, to choose which inverted applications you would like to install. Select one, select two, select all inverts; the choice is yours! You can also install the latest Apex or Nova launchers, themes, boot animations. This is a completely touch-enabled process where you touch the screen to choose which apps you would like to install.
I recommend a full wipe if it's your first time using JusTunBean Aroma or if you're having any sort of problems with this mod after flashing it.
Reboot into recovery. CWM/TWRP/4EXT
Install the Jellybean (4.1+) ROM of your choice. Only CM/AOKP ROMS are fully supported.
Open up the JusTunBean Aroma zip as though you were flashing a ROM.
Wipe Cache within the JusTunBean Aroma application. If you are using a new kernel select option three: "wipe cache and kernel".
Install whichever apps you want through Aroma intstaller.
Finish running the installer, then choose to reboot or go back to recovery.
Installer will wait 20 seconds before rebooting. This is to ensure that everything is fully installed.

i.g. the reason why mms.apk doesnt flash over and when trying to do so manually says it can not parse it?

That's not an issue. Its simple, you updated to a non themed application.

[ROM] Google Edition 4.2.2 [Clean][Slim][280MB]

Deprecated. My 4.3 (with Mobeam support!) can be found HERE.
This ROM is more or less a debloated stock GE. No mods really. Just a clean ROM so you can add to it as you wish.
Features
Deodexed
Zip-aligned
Rooted
Auto-loki (For AT&T I337 only)
Removed all apps available in the Play Store except for Google Keyboard
Removed some Samsung bloat
Reboot menu
Play Store 4.3.11
Google Keyboard 1.0.1870.703320 (2013-06-21)
AT&T Hot Spot auto-login (For AT&T I337 only)
Google Wallet works out-of-the-box
Notes
This ROM uses a Sprint (L720) branded build.prop to make Wallet work out-of-the-box. There should be no problems with using a different branding from the phone you actually have. If you want to rebrand it to AT&T (I337) or Canadian (I337M), flash the attached build.prop but Wallet may stop working. To keep Wallet working with the AT&T or Canadian build.prop, use Nottach but some people have reported problems with Nottach.

1) THANK YOU for using Mega.
2) Downloading now! Can't wait to try it out!
Thanks op for the rom

It says temporarily unavailable...really want to try it! just 297mb, it gives me the shivers just to see how clean it is!! Will wait for a fix on the link
BAD download here as well.
two questions here, can we get some of the stock apps (ie the calendar basically is all i want) and will they work on this rom?
Downloads fine for me. Added a mirror.

I have no idea why you'd want the TW calendar instead of the Google calendar but you can try to pull the TW calendar from a TW ROM and stick it in system/apps. There's a good chance it'll work. I don't have a TW ROM to work with at the moment.
No worries I can down load one off play store like Jorge.
And its because I like full month views

I'm trying to remove more TW-specific files. Let me know if anybody encounters any problems.
so i guess the problem with this ROM is simply there are no problems...seriously though this thing is awesome, cool beans...sucks people will have to dig to find a solid experience. loved being able to build it into what i wanted, rather than stripping one down
EDIT: noticing mediocre wifi performance, but i think this is universal on the GE roms? anyone else

I'm using the same kernel and modules as the other GE ROMs so wifi experience should be the same.
FYI, I am intentionally not updating this ROM with the newest Ausdim kernels because the point is to offer a clean and slim ROM. Ausdim's latest updates depart from stock and add features like overclocking. You can flash his newer kernel on top of this ROM if you really want.
Google Wallet now works out-of-the-box.
Deodexed now so you can flash mods like Jamison904's extended power menu.

[MOD] Google+ Locations Map Fix v1 [12/07/13]

Presenting to you my incredibly simple fix for the "Google+ Locations" Grey background maps issue that most of us have.
What is the problem?
Google+ Locations feature is replacing Latitude but for many of us this feature does not work. It fails to load the map leaving us with pictures of our contacts on a grey background - basically making the feature worthless to us all.
Whilst the fix itself is very simple (more info at bottom of this post), I know a lot of people here like things to be super easy, so I made a .zip for you all to flash.
Instructions
- Flash like any normal update.zip
- Reboot
In the unlikely event you find that the zip doesn't appear to work, or causes other Google+ issues then wipe app data (and cache) for Google+ and reboot.

Didn't work either way for me.
Tried your flash zip and after rebooting Google+ updated itself by Play probably reversing the changes.
That wouldn't reverse the changes, try to flash it a second time, one person said it worked the second time (everyone else was fine the first time)
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Nope still doesn't work.
Reverted back to a previous nandroid (InsertCoin) backup prior to any Google+ modding.
Flashed your zip, rebooted and Google+ was no longer installed.
Had to re-install Google+ from Play store.
Weird you are the only one who has had issues. You were not wiping cache when you flashed it were you?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
No just a straight flash and reboot
Interesting. All the zip does it put the app and libs in the correct /system/ directory, there it no reason why it shouldnt work.
You could do it manually if you wanted.

I tried manually first time and still had a grey screen

finally got this working...
After moving the files you need to manually clear Google+ data and then it works.

I tried to do manually. Moving the "com.google.android.apps.plus-2.apk" to /system/app results in the error:
failed on 'com.google.android.apps.plus-2.apk' - Cross-device link
This is on Nexus4 running CM10.1.2-mako

Alright,
I'm sure you arrived at this solution quite independently as It becomes kinda obvious once you have a proper look into it but I sorted this out weeks ago
https://plus.google.com/u/0/102811685695605940714/posts/5B8gYHciXDe [ Posts in the name of Steve Jones, ]
I made available a new gapps packages for fresh roms here http://goo.im/devs/trevd/gapps/gapps-jb-20130615-signed.zip this includes Google+ as a system app.
The problem you'll get now is that the original one installed from the PlayStore has been updated hence why the apk is now at -2. So at the moment if folks have that one installed in /data/ they should be able to flash your system app version with out removing anything ( in theory ) This might only work until the next update.
Probably the easiest approach is to uninstall using play. Flash a update zip which installs it as a system app.
Just My Thoughts :good:
@sashykanth use "busybox mv" to move files
Hack On!

Thanks for this, I hadn't seen your G+ Post before today. The new Gapps package will certainly be useful for roms which require Gapps.

[ROM] Google Edition 4.3 [Clean][Deodex][Slim][282MB]

Development has moved to a unified page HERE.
This ROM is more or less a debloated stock GE 4.3.
Features
Deodexed
Zip-aligned
Rooted
Auto-loki (For AT&T I337 only)
Removed all apps available in the Play Store except for Google Keyboard
Removed some Samsung bloat
Reboot menu
Play Store 4.3.11
AT&T Hot Spot auto-login (For AT&T I337 only)
Google Wallet works out-of-the-box
Notes
This ROM uses a Sprint (L720) branded build.prop to make Wallet work out-of-the-box. There should be no problems with using a different branding from the phone you actually have. If you want to rebrand it to I9505G, flash the attached build.prop but Wallet may stop working.

No problems that I know of though none of the 4.2.2 mods seem to work so that's a bummer. I haven't run into the PIN issue. Anybody having PIN issues with this?
I deleted my original so I don't know what I removed. I basically removed all the apps available from the Play Store plus some Samsung apps and files that aren't in AOSP like factory mode and Samsung's wallpapers. I kept everything from AOSP even if I think it's garbage like the AOSP wallpapers.

I have a problem, and it's not only with your rom. My phone gets stuck on the boot animation. Tried three roms now, and it's the same for all... Any idea what the problem is?

Tried that a few times. Never the less, It's NOT rom related. So let's forget about it.
Can anyone verify if the PIN code issue is gone? Does it prompt for the code? And does it say "SIM unlocking..." for ages?
Warning! Titanium Backup backup and restore does not work on 4.3!
TB restore works here for almost all apps when changing the folder. From /0 to /legacy. Has todo with the 4.3 root. Works at least for me, 3 apps didnt restore properly here, runtaatic, seriesguide, wordblitz, the other 100+ did work also call log, SMS, wifi acces points (not XML).
Only change to the newest ROM is that I removed root so you don't have to upgrade. Just root with Chainfire's SuperSU. Latest versions of SuperSU have lots of changes for 4.3 so everyone flash it now!
Latest SuperSU is 1.45 From Today . Hope it helps

The best kernel for now - stock one.
As I can see there are no any kernels built from 4.3 sources...
PS
Great ROM
Like it stock in mind philosophy.
The only one I miss - AOSP browser. IMHO much better than Chrome...

If you like AOSP browser, I would recommend Dolphin. It's what I use.
Rebased with official 4.3. Read the notes in the OP before flashing!
