[Q] ROMS that can take screenshot WITHOUT using hardware button - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I want to take screenshot without using hardware button (vol down+power), for example long press navigation bar or any other on-screen shortcuts.
I have tried AOKP rom but unfortunately the navigation bar doesn't have shorcut to screenshot.
Thanks a lot!

In some ROMs (like AOKP) you can edit the power menu to have a screenshot button.
It's buried in there somewhere, I'm using a stock MMuzzy ROM so I don't have the power to do that.
It's not exactly what you wanted, but you can hold down the power button and then take a screenshot with the button in the menu.

Can any ROM do this without even long pressing the power button?

Not that I know of, however, you can get an app like Screenshot Ultimate to have a button overlay, or even a button sitting static in the status bar.
Here's the trigger list to which you can set.
- Overlay icon which is visible on top of all screens (icon, button or custom icon)
- Shake
- Service icon click
- Audio
- Power connect/disconnect
- Folder listener
- Webserver
- Camera hardware button
- Long click search hardware button
- Custom shortcut
- Widget button
- Button inside the app
- Intent (Tasker support)
- Interval
- Cronjob

use any custom rom with Custom Ring Targets Settings, from there you can set a toggle to take screenshot

Cyanogenmod's navbar shortcuts can do it.
Just as you said, long pressing in the navbar (previous configuration obviously)

Nice idea! After hiding the navbar, I quickly realized how much I could use something like this! I'll have to try this out when I get a chance.
Only downside I see is that since we're changing the key layout file, even when the navbar is shown, the volume buttons would still act as home/back. Would be nice for the ROM chefs to have some sort of 'live toggle' so that it would switch to home/back when the navbar is hidden, and then back to default (actual volume) when the navbar is shown.
Cheers and thanks m8!
Op, pm sent.
That's a nice idea but how do you change the volume? You will have to install some kind widget.
Also this increase wear on your buttons, that's how I killed my previous phone.
there's a toggle in AOKP to hide and bring back the toggles, although this would be more convenient it seems like it would be a hassle to change those buttons whenever you needed your volume back
Thanks for the idea just FYI on 4.0.2 GSM the layout file is:
ROOT - SYSTEM - USR - KEYLAYOUT - Generic.kl but it worked just the same. It was item 114 and 115.
Working great so far. Also I put a volume widget on my home screen so that takes care of that.
There's a flashable zip for this on rootz, been using it for several days. I just long press my ringer toggle for volume adjustment.
what i wanna see is this:
tap the power button to show/hide nav bar
double tap to lock screen
hold down to power off
boom.

My bad .dup post
or you could just shrink the nav bar down to 30dp!
still works well and its almost like its not there!
Pretty cool. Thanks. Works like a charm.
Even long presses on the volume replicates the same behaviour as I configured on the Nova launcher :
- Long press on the Home (vol up) key: shows recents apps
- Long press on the Back (vol down) key: kills app

Doesn't seem to do anything on AOKP 27. The default says WAKE and when I change it and then reboot the volume buttons still handles the volume.
how?
Teach me, please

I think people here are misunderstand the statement. "I just long press my ringer toggle for volume adjustment." He used the built in toggles(slient or vibrate) in the rom to get the the volume screen and make volume adjustments. The long press of the physical volume key is not adjusting the volume once the mod is made.

[Q] Screen Shot not working

Using the latest AOKP from TASK and KToonesz, but I am not able to use the screen shot function. Am I missing something here? Before I had to only hold down the home button and power for the function.
Thank you for your help in any way.

You need to enable it in ROM control. Menu> settings> ROM control > power menu > screenshot. You can also set it as a shortcut if you use the nav bar
Edit: I'm sorry. Are you looking for just the quick method of screenshot or any working method? Because you can just hold power like you were shutting down the phone after enabling it in ROM control.

[Q] --Home Button---Rootbox-- issues----

Hey guys,
Having a small issues on my note 2 pretty boring. I am running a rootbox Rom, and in fact everytime the screen dims, and i want to press home button to reactivate the phone, the phones goes to the multitaksing screens ( Kill apps). It doesnt go to the home screen.
It is pretty boring cause everytime I want to activate the phone, I end up to the Kill apps screen, like if i did a long press on home button but which i didnt !!. Do you know what could be the issue.?
I have tried changing the settings in nova, or apex, but doesnt change anything.
Any clues how i could solve this?
I think you have modified the Hardware Keys.
Have a look in Settings > Rootbox settings > Hardware keys (2 menus).
I've tried all Rootbox nightlies and never had this issue.

A quick one, cause i see that we use the same phone and same ROM. Can you have one lockscreen page with multiple widgets ? I mean in the same page not one widget in one page as it looks then pretty bad?
Thanks mate
To add some widgets/shortcuts on the lockscreen I used the AOKP Ribbons into the menu Settings > ROM Control > Ribbons. Useful feature
Hey hey just did it it is awesome! Was using cyanogenmod before, it was great, but honestly I love the root box one. Might be even better than alliance
Anyway merci beaucoup

RootBox ROM has 4 sources: CM10.1 + AOKP + PA + RootBox
This ROM is stable, smooth and with a lot of features. I don't understand why there is not a lot of people on its thread...
De rien => Hit "Thanks"
Last time I bother you promise in case you know, but just in case. Do you know how to take out the fit ti screen button on the bottom status bar (the four arrow). It s pretty useless to me and spend an hour searching for the setting but no luck

Sorry but I don't see what do you mean... Do you have any screenshot to show me?
At the bottom, the small 4 arrows icon ( just on the left side of the time), which is hadling the zoom, or adapt the screen. Just annoying to be there. Do know how to take it out

Go to Settings > Hybrid settings > ParanoidAndroid settings (on the top) > Interface > Reduce NavBar to 0%
No sure but you should need to disable PIE controls. You can use LMT Launcher
Thanks a bunch! Will try that! Not sure it will take out only the zoom icon, but will give it a try!

I am having the same issue with the home button where it goes to the recent applications list when pressed from sleep. I don't have a lock screen set up.
I tried the Settings->Rootbox Settings->Hardware keys->set home button to do nothing but then it won't bring up the Recents list when I long press it from a regular screen.
SO... it appears that when the Home Key is pressed during Sleep (and you don't have a lock screen set up) it is registering it as a long press. If I DO have a lock screen (ie. slide or PIN) it works normally... but that's probably because a long-press does nothing from those screens anyway.

Yes exactly the same issue. But at least, by putting the home button == No action. We dont end up all the time to Recents Apps, which was really annoying.
Finally i end it up putting in the navigation bar a shortcut for recents apps, so at the end i have still easy access to it.
PS: I notice also another bug, when on tabet mode, and the icon for battery is Speed Gauge, the battery always shows 0 and empty. (whereas in reality its not)

[Q] Screenshot button

Is there any way to add screenshot button to next to basic on-screen-buttons? I am running CleanROM.

I personally haven't heard of any way to add a 4th button to the navigation bar for screenshots. That sounds like something that might be in a custom rom if it was even available. The other option I know of would be to use Xposed Framework with the GravityBox module. With GravityBox you can set a long press or double tap on any of the nav bar buttons to trigger a screenshot. You can add a tile in the Quick Settings for screenshots. And you can also add it to the Advanced Power Menu (power button). That's what I can think of at the moment other than finding an app or widget of some kind to put on your home screen.

Custom navbars not working

Hi.
So I've been trying to get my navbar buttons to work as they did in my previous phone. What would be:
Recent apps short press: open menu
Recent apps long press: search
Recent apps double tap: open assistant
Home button short press: home
Home button long press: recent apps
Home button double tap: split screen
Back button short press: back
Back button long press: kill app
Remaping the buttons doesn't seem an option since the soft keys are not detected as buttons. I rooted my device as well.
I've tried several methods using other apps that should replace the stock navbar but those despite being shown they do nothing.
I would also like to have it so the home button is disabled when typing.
I would really appreciate some help. Thanks
-Device: OP5T
-OS: OOS9.0.5
-Rooted with magisk. Twrp recovery. No xposed
Most of the functions you listed can be achieved by using the navbar customization built into Oxygen OS. (Settings->Buttons->Navigation Bar->Customization) The kill app button could probably be done with Tasker.

Although it is true the actions themselves are available on the stock menu apart from search and kill app. The short press action cannot be changed
Ah, didn't notice the menu one. Just for curiosity, do apps still support a menu button function? I haven't seen a hardware menu button in years.

Oh yes they do. All of the ones I use at least it just opens whatever menu the app has that you would access by pressing on 3 dots. I just hate that some apps use other methods so you always have to think how to open the menu as oposed to just pressing the same thing
