Can't swipe to camera from lock screen - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

You obviously can do this from the n4 but did they forget to put this back into the tablet because the previous n7 didn't have a camera?

That's a good question. I wonder why it wasn't included....

Prolly they still don't recognise n7.2 having a rear camera.

Yeah this really annoys me. I don't get why they make it so inconsistent.

They don't include this because it's not included in their *tablet* layout. You could with your n4 because it's a phone. The same thing will result in a nexus 10 too.

Perhaps one day there will be a mod similar to this one for a physical camera button.

I don't use/want/need any of those.
Also excuse the brashness but who are you to be all high and mighty about what apps are essential. Ego big enough to put you username in the title.
Thanks but no thanks.

Haha.... but I have no big ego... I'm just participating in the xda-community....by posting this thread.... these apps I thought were very useful... since I find my self using them all the time!... and though I'd share my top 5 with my fellow N7 owners.... you don't have to use any of them if you don't too... as everyone has their own opinion and is different...

Nice video. Thanks for the suggestions. The only one that makes me scratch my head is the rotation one. Why not just recommend an alternative launcher such as Nova that gives you rotation capability plus a whole lot more?

Sorry let me be more specific. While googling good apps to download for the Nexus 7 most lists are these and popular android apps that everyone already knows about.. I was hoping to see an extended list with some more apps that may not be on everyone's radar.

Camera 360 feature?

The camera pic are nicely sharp and awesome looking.
I see the Panaroma feature but do not see the 360 feature (that is available on the Nexus 4 JB camera). Is that hidden somewhere on this S4?
that feature is a nexus 4 exclusive.

I saw online videos where there was a 360 camera mood, maybe on international version only?

This is a standard 4.2.2 feature, as I have had it on my Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Samsung decided to leave this out.

Ok. So maybe if someone can extract that camera apk from N4, 7, or 10 as camera2 so we can run it also on our phone whenever we want to to take 360 while camera apk is remain samsung stock. I wonder if that will work.
Samsung left it out for a reason, they made their own version of the 360 pic it's called orb and it's coming to the s4 later on.

How do you type on your Nexus?

I have the OG Nexus 7 and I find typing on it to be a pain which is really my only complaint about the 7 inch form factor. I find it equally difficult in portrait and landscape. I'm getting ready to purchase the new Nexus 7 and the fact that I can hardly type on my old one keeps weighing on my mind. So what do you guys do to type easier on your Nexus 7's?

Try swiftkey for tablet. I use it on my Galaxy Note 8 and it works like a dream. I'd expect equal if not better performance on the Nexus 7.

I type with thumb keyboard, great for typing with your thumbs!

I am currently using swype, but I can say the accidental touches are really annoying when my palm hits "Go" on the side of the screen while reaching for a letter, before im finished typing and at that point i have to start all over.

Wha? There's a tablet version of swiftkey? Gonna have to find that for sure. I loaded up the normal one and it works, but I'm guessing a tablet version has a lot better layout/size/shape of the keys.
I'm using the phone version of SwiftKey, at first it was a bit hard to type but when you're accustomed to it, you can't change keyboard (I don't even want to use the tablet version.) I guess the 7 inches plays a role here.

Forgot I bought thumb keyboard a long time ago. Just installed it and so far it seems much better. The keyboard itself seems less sensitive o am getting less double clicks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I find it the perfect size for me to type on in portrait mode - way too wide in landscape (at least with my thumbs). I use Ultra Keyboard because I've always had HTC phones and am used to the keyboard layout. Ultra Keyboard is the only one that I found that duplicates that layout.
The only problem that I've got with the stock keyboard is that the layout is different than on my phone. Other than that, I've turned up the autocorrect aggressiveness, and it catches nearly every error that I make. Of late, I've been finding that the stock android keyboard is better than the ones you can purchase off the Play Store. I think it's because Google's putting a ton of work on the general look and feel of their OS, and the keyboard is a major part of that.

You saved me some typing. ^
I'll also add, it fits nicely in the ol' pants pocket.
Love at first touch!
My first Nexus device and I'm really liking it do far. I must admit I do miss some of the functionality of Touch Wiz. But this tablet is a beast and a feast for the eyes. Really looking testing the multimedia capabilities of the tab.
Yep.
Nice price.
Looks cool.
Its google. It'll get updates as long as it can run them.
Dev support is likely to be off the hook until the next one is released if not longer.
No. Never with any device will I ever be satisfied because I love to tweak. I will always need just a few more MHz, or a touch faster I/O, or Tablet UI. But this is a Very nice tablet for it's form factor

Sorry to be a little off topic, but can someone give their personal opinion compared to the ipad3? I've been using the ipad3 for a while now and its very responsive in a lot of ways, especially when using chrome. My galaxy s4 seem a tad bit slower on the touch in chrome, so I'm hoping the nexus 7 would be as good as the ipad while using chrome or other browsers.
