DicePlayer works great! - Nexus 7 (2013) Themes and Apps

Just a heads-up. You won't be able to download it from Play Store since the device is technically not supported. But it works just fine with HW-decoding if you copy the apk (free) from another device.

its there now in the playstore :good:

Yeah, I thought that was bizarre when the play store said the device was not supported, but like you said tap the apk...

DicePlayer is now working straight from the Play Store. Flawlessly playing a 10.5GB Blu-ray rip with 9500kbps 1080p video and 5500kbps DTS audio. This thing is a beast.

Media Player also does.. Or Quicktime.. I guess divx would also?

What app for mkv videos?

I just copied a few videos that I had on my old fascinate sdcard that would play them perfectly using HW decoder mode with MX player.
I tried it on Nexus, and very choppy, and these videos are not 720P, they are just standard SD
I tried the default video player and I guess does not support mkv files.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
That is strange, I play 720p MKV files in MX without any issues.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling and making sure the app is fully updated?
I use DICE Player but I don't think anyone new can purchase their app because their payment is suspended.
MX Video Player is a good alternative and it's free. But if you've purchased DICE Player in the past, I'd use that.
Edit: https://market.android.com/details?...EsImNvbS5pbmlzb2Z0Lm1lZGlhcGxheWVyLnRyaWFsIl0. Looks like their trial version is now "Ad" supported?
Dice Player is the absolute best for MKVs. But as zephik said, you can't purchase right now.

Yeah looks like their "trial" version is a ad-supported version. So I think DICE Player Ad (trial) is now the full-version of the app but supported with ads as a workaround. I bought the app when it was still available and they still do update it, so I can't confirm but I believe that's how their Ad version is working.

I did not even install it myself I guess when I registered my device with my email it pulled everything down and saw MX player there already.
Let me try another video and see what happens.
I will try the DICE as well even though it has ads just to see if it even works.
OK I tested with the Dice ads player..and it works great!
So now I have to hope they get full version soon.
Anyone know how much full version was?

According to the receipt in my email it was $3.95. The ad version is better than the trial version they originally had.
the original trial lasted 3 days and then you had to buy it. so it's very nice that they've added this ads trial since their payment situation is all screwed up.
one thing though, i've had a lot of issues with AVI's in diceplayer, so i use MoboPlayer for them.
there is no hardware support yet. i've had to settle with using MX video player and set it to "software decoder" / "fast mode".

Dice Player has full MKV hardware support and fully supports 720p and 1080p MKV files.
it actually uses hardware for everything, which unfortunately fails with AVI files on my device.

well, it cant play my .mkv's(720p ac3). upon trying the phone locks up and wont respond at all. i end up having to do a battery pull.
VPlayer works very well for mkv videos. Playback is smooth with HW Decoder and a high quality setting.

IDk what to tell you other than to message the developer. he's very helpful. i talked to him about issues before.
i've tested 6 MKVs from 720p to 1080p and all of them have worked perfectly without any issues with hardware decoding in diceplayer.

Doesn't seem to be the Apps problem if your phone is locking up. Are you using s custom rom or kernel?

Any good apps for playing windows media files?

I cant seem to find one that works from the market and didnt see much in my search in this section. I used to use Arc Media player but that doesnt seem to work anymore. Most of them will play the file but there is no picture, just audio. Other files such as AVI seem to play fine with most of the players I have tried.

Use moboplayer. It supports all video codecs.

You can try moai video player. Its free of the market and plays almost everything. Also FVD video downloader will download videos to your sd card and has a built in video player.
Thanks for the replies I will give them a try
Crap, none of these worked so far.

I've generally had great luck playing any video format with mobo, including wmv.
I like MX Player. It has hardware decoding capabilities. If that doesn't work it supports multi core software decoding.
Rock Player plays just about anything
There's also a VLC player in alpha mode I think that may play it. Ill post it when I can.

Winamp and power amp are what I use. Pro versions aren't free though. The Google play version works as well. Not sure if it plays local wma files, but it definitely play wma files from its server.

Play avi video files on dropbox app ?

Hey guys,
I recently bought my HOX and I love it !!
I have one little question. I Own a iconiaTab A510 which is on tegra3 and ICS as well. When i try to play avi file (3-10Mo) from dropbox app on my tab they just play fine. But on my HOX it just doesn't work. I tried mxplayer, vlc, vplayer but none of them worked ! Do you have any idea why ??
dropbox app v 2.1.10 on both
I don't think it's related to the Dropbox app, since once the file is downloaded, it's job is done and another app is called to handle the file. What software are you using? MX Player works flawlessly here, both with SD and HD videos.
Hi,
With latest dropbox app, you don't need to download files anymore, you can play them in streaming. If I download my video, you're right, mxplayer works fine. Unless the streaming feature only works on tablet...

Weird issue. I've tried everything to no avail.
The same avi files stream fine from my pc using plex.

I will try to upload a video and stream it, though my Dropbox always uploads unbelievably slow, so it might take a while...
EDIT: I have tried several mp4, 3gp and avi files, and all streamed well (a bit slowly, but I could get the to play after a bit of buffering) except for the avi ones. I'm pretty sure it's because of the dropbox app, because if you click Export -> Save to SD Card and play it from there it works just fine. I also have a 720p mkv file uploading now, but I couldn't find a smaller one around, so it might take a while, and I expect the result is just as it is with the avi file. I'll update if I find anything more.
EDIT 2: Just as I thought, the mkv file refuses to stream, but will play just fine if downloaded first. So it looks like you'll have to store your videos locally while you watch them, or find some other way of streaming them
Ok, you're right...if you do export>mxplayer it works after a bit of buffering...but if you just click on your video and select mxplayer, it doesn't play...which is weird because my A510 does play the video this way without buffering...anyway thanks for your help

PowerAmp not playing any files

Does anyone use PowerAmp? I tried playing songs off of it on my new N7 and it keeps saying can't play files. I am able to open the files up with Google Music or the file explorer.

My poweramp is working fine over here on stock, cleanrom as well as cm10.2. Try another third party music player and see if that also fails, if it does then theres something else wrong thats not just poweramp related.
If its in any way related, in quickpic i was not able to use the hide function because the media storage was messing with it, try clearing data on media storage and see if it works.

Nope. Songs play fine on the new n7 with poweramp for me. Not sure why it isn't for you. I know there was just an update to deal with some 4.3 issue, but other than that I don't see why it shouldn't work. Are you on the stock rom or custom?
edit: nvm, I just saw your sig. Your on a custom rom...

I can play music with other media players just fine. Except in PowerAmp. It just keeps giving me errors saying Failed to Play File. I'm on CleanROM 1.2. Stock kernel that came w/ rom.

My gf and I both got our N7 so I decided to try PowerAmp on hers as well. Same result as mine. I ended up using Rocket Player for the time being.
We are both on CleanROM 1.2. But I don't understand why it would cause PowerAmp to not be able to play any files and we can still play from any other media player like Rocket Player, Google Music, ES Media Player, etc..

idk...poweramp and all other players (including streaming apps) work for me on clean 1.3. If you're not running any audio mods, and tried to uninstall and reinstall, I'm not sure what the problem could be. Maybe try updating from 1.2 to 1.3? Backup apps and flash. What could it hurt to have the latest rom anyway...
mine did the same. there was an update in the play store to make it work right on 4.3 and it works great now

Yeah, that's what I was saying before. Poweramp had an update for 4.3. I probably didn't notice it because I just downloaded the latest which has the 4.3 update...oh well...

Ya that's what I thought too. We downloaded the revision 530 which supposedly has the 4.3 fixes, but still isn't playing.
EDIT - I updated to CleanROM 1.3 on my & gf's N7 and now PowerAmp is playing files normally. Not sure why CleanROM 1.2 broke the app.
