Root without PC? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is it possible to root the Nexus without a computer?

There was a way to install adb and fastboot an Android tablet or another phone a while back. Although I am not sure if it is still possible (the sdk updated, and I am not sure if they updated). Edit for clarification: Which if it is, you could use a tablet and an OTG cable to achieve root. Which technically would mean you don't need a PC.
Though, to actually answer your question, no you need a computer.

I can't I have some issue where it won't work on anything but charging. I don't know what the problem is, I think it's the battery.

Solve that problem then. Try different cables, different USB ports (if on desktop try one on the back of the PC). Try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Try another PC.
If all of that fails, it may be a hardware issue with the phone.

You can use superboot. And chainfire's supersu is flashable in cwm isn't it?

Yes, but how would you get a custom recovery on the device that isn't rooted, without using a computer?

Doesn't ROM manager do that? It did on my cappy! Booya Biaatch! No but I hope it works for you. No seriously. I do.

Problems rooting Incredible

I rooted my phone with no issues, but I can't get my brother's to take.
I have debugging enabled, I have it in charge only, htc sync is not installed on the computer, and I am running Windows 7. I installed the hboot drivers, run unrevoked3, it does its thing, but then it says "failed to flash recovery image". Then the phone reboots and works like normal. It does not get S-Off and there is no recovery. What's going on? His is an SLCD.
It did that once when I rooted a friends inc. Just retried it and it worked fine.

I have never been able to use Windows 7 to use Unrevoked to get root. I have always had to use an Ubuntu live cd to get it to take.

I tried 3 times with the same result every time. I know windows 7 used to be a problem, but I figured they fixed that issue. Is there anything else that would be causing this?

With Windows it's all about the drivers that are installed, and making the proper satanic sacrifices.
Give the Ubuntu live CD a try, since it wont have to worry about windows drivers, couple other people I work with had to go that route because Windows was being a pain.

You don't have to install anything. You can run the OS from the CD itself.

Try hard reset & then unrevoked. I had the same issues until I did this.
The problem is he doesn't want to lose all his apps/game data. He about lost it when his SD card was unreadable - though I was able to fix it.
I appreciate all the suggestions. If it comes down to it, I will just do the hard reset.
With the ubuntu CD, I can just run the OS from the CD, download Unrevoked from within ubuntu, then run it?

I read that suggested on androidforums as well... The instructions say to keep it on charge only, so that's why I didn't try 'disk drive'. Seems logical to try that though...

[Q] Unrooting Via Phone Only

My charge port has stopped working for no reason. I tried leaving the port in over night to see if that worked and it actually melted my port some making the charger melt some as well.
So I cannot connect my phone back to my computer, which I need to do for most traditional unroot methods. I am able to use my phone normally by having a friend charge batteries for me in his Nexus as a temporary fix.
If anyone can help me accomplish this so that I can take into Verizon I would be greatly appreciative!
Thanks!

Well... it doesn't but to be fair your thread topic says "Unroot."
Rooting != Custom ROM.
The only way to restore your phone back to stock is with a computer. There is certainly no other way into fixing it without USB access. Sorry.

Apparently Mobile Odin has the capability of messing with the bootloader but it "cowardly chooses not to" in order to prevent users from messing up their phones.
Hmmmm....
Still stuck on the bootloader... I might just chance it and hope Verizon won't notice.

What's simply the best program to root your Nexus?

I remember seeing a program that u would install on your PC called like 1 click root and had a very nice GUI with tons of options to simply 1 click root your Nexus. Is this program still out there or what program is the best? I do want Superuser rights as well.
I do not want to flash a new ROM. I like the stock experience. I just need a little more access.
I am having problems with the new jelly bean update and Fox Fi no longer works. I got Easy Tether to work but I want a hot spot that works not USB.
I am hoping I can fix this with rooting or a third party APP.
I really hope I do not have to flash, but if I do have to I will only want to flash another stock ROM but one that is fully unlocked.

No its not lol. If you seriously think that there's "a lot of work" to root a Nexus, you're not reading properly.
That's the proper method. Do not use a toolkit.
This method. If you follow the steps, you have it rooted within 7minutes

fastboot oem unlock, fastboot a custom recovery, flash a custom rom or the su binaries in your new custom recovery, reboot and profit.. theres no work involved.
The method that does not involve a toolkit.

Bingo.
Which leaves fastboot as simply the best program to root your Nexus(any Nexus).
Fastboot is really easy, just copy and paste a few commands.
Hell, finding the correct drivers and installing the SDK is harder than fastboot commands.
on top of that, this procedure under windows is way much harder than on linux, imo.

Not just your opinion, that's just a fact lol. You don't have to deal with drivers on Linux or OSX, which makes it 1000x easier.
The drivers are a killer.........
So much that i downloaded the toolkit to install the drivers for my nexus 7 and just dump it aside after that, don't want to deal with drivers anymore..
Now i don't recommend this..

[Q] Pull files from boot looping state

Hey fellaz,
Earlier, I was installing some apps for a custom keyboard. I was notified by Android that I needed to update the APK installer (I cannot remember the exact dialog) which I installed. After that, whenever I tried to open ANY .apk file, it kept saying the installer has stopped working. Couple minutes later, the phone rebooted and was stuck in a loop.
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856188&page=4 , but I am completely new to working with ADB. I did manage to install the SDK and update it. I booted into Recovery mode and tried the command 'adb backup -all' (given in another thread) and I was given "adb: unable to connect for backup."
Unless I did something wrong, I doubt ADB would work since I'm not booted into the phone right? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30826050&postcount=32)
I would just like to back up maybe one or two folders that are crucial to me.
Any advice? Is there anything Verizon can do if I take it into the store?
Thanks!
EDIT: Forgot to add that I have the phone completely stock. I'm debating whether or not to do a hard reset as I'm reading conflicting reports of sdcard being saved and not being saved.
Thats your problem. Adb works only on custom recovery's. There is a thread on flashing the stock image via fastboot without wiping data. I think thats your only solution..

you do not need usb debugging for fastboot so do not worry about turning that on.
