The only one I'm aware of with proper custom codec support for DTS output is DicePlayer.

I'm using BSplayer until MX gets updated.
Edit-Archos player has been updated, and is now working.

Player Pro app plays video fine with 4.3 but my current version of MX Player does not.

im using the vlc beta app until mx player is updated for 4.3 properly. The testing build of mx player works too but is a bit unstable.

Looking for a good video/movie player

So I was poking around and found out that the VLC beta isn't fully supported for the N7 just yet. Most of my movies are in .avi format and the native Google Movies app doesn't support it.
My question is, is there any decent movie/video players out there that will support the .avi format? Paid or free, doesn't really matter to me.
I tried about 10 players, the only one that played my mkv's properly was dice player

I use MX player, plays all my .mkv and such fine. Also streams from my NAS no problem.
Hrm, didn't work for me. Had video, no audio.

Only MX for me!

MX works for me - plays .avi from external flash drive. Happy camper here.
Alright, tried mx player again. Switched to sw decoder (fast), works perfect now. Woot.

I am currently using DicePlayer with the custom plugin for DTS. Plays every MKV I have thrown at it over wireless, up to 1080p.

Did you have to do anything else to make it play from the external flash drive?
MX player all the way!

Yes, agreed. It plays everything I can throw at it. Even takes a stream from my satellite box.
I tried playing an MKV with VPlayer and MX Player, neither seemed to play properly. Tried BS Player and that worked perfectly.
Hmmm, not sure why but I have no sound when using MX player....anyone esle?

Best video player

What do you guys use?
I'm looking to buy one, but can't really decide on which one to buy.
Dice player.
I like mx player. It was included with remics ROM, and it grew on me. It's not compatible with JB yet though.
Edit: The 1.6 update added support for JB. Seems like there are good developers working on it.
It is now

MX Player has been flawless for me so far, and swiping for volume & brightness is very convenient.

Dice player sucks they removed dts in the last update. Right bsplayer is the best one plays mkv files just fine

Another vote for MX Player.
I use BS Player. Even allows you to stream off your network through the player itself

MX Player. Works great on JB.

Is MX player support HW Acceleration for our GNEX?
I tried playing a 720p MKV on it and it was very stuttering...
Vplayer or VLC
sent from my Verizon Wireless Epic touch 4g
DicePlayer
Dice Player! MX player plays many files in software mode on galaxy nexus.

It does support HW Acceleration on GNex and never had problems with shuttering so far, but then again i don't watch long movies and big files. Mostly watch anime on it.

Jelly bean STOCK video player

Is there any STOCK video player on Gnex 4.1?
Or if there is no stock video player, which one is the best one. I need it only for watching video clips and stuff downloaded fr web, but no movies...
Thanks folx
I thought stock video play was part of stock galaxy apk. I use vplayer on my own devices.
What stock galaxy app? Which one?
Pretty sure he meant gallery. I find going through the native player via gallery I can't play any movies I load on my device.
I personally use mx player, love the swipe controls.

There is a built in video player although the codecs it supports isn't the best. If you need support for many codecs I would suggest either MX player, rock player or dice player.

vlc or mxplayer. i use vlc altough is in beta it works great!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Yeah the gallery "stock" player is very basic, i think it's more designed for playing the videos, you record with your phone cam, nut much more. Alternatives are as mentioned vlc or rock player.
Btw does anyone know a player with support for more than one audio track?

MX Player, not only that, it also let you choose between hardware or software decoding, which is needed for AC3.

i used mxplayer but switched to diceplayer as it lets you play in pop-out video while checking e-mail etc
BSplayer can play video in "external mode", so everywhere, while you are surfing, reading email etc... and you can resize, pause or clse the video.
MXplayer doesnt provide this feature.

BSPlayer, by far.
Mkv at 1080p with audio DTS, flawlessly.
I bought bs player pro, but had problems with it in 4.2, dice player is what I'm using now for smb streaming

DicePlayer is my favourite. Smooth and you can activate Plugins if you need to.
I use vplayer

I use mxplayer and have no complaints. Love it.

I use BS Player because it read everything well and has a LAN Mode. But the UI is horrible.
My combo: BSplayer (soft decode) for WMV + DICE Player for everything else

Compatible media player with 4.3?

As the title suggests and asks: Is there a 4.3 compatible media player?
MX, DicePlayer, VLC, etc. have left 4.3 users in the cold until they update their apps for Android 4.3 compability.
Others have reported BS Player, Mobo, etc to work, but they either result choppy or or audio/sound only but no picture.
I've tried ES File Manger's built-in player, Gallery. There's .mkv playback, but ES/Gallery are pretty slow/choppy and can't keep up and such.
MX has been quite fast with such an update in the past. Let's hope it's the same this time round.

You mean that one:
https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/translation/test-build
For me that does not work. There is no "This version is unsupported" message but cannot get video and sound to work. Some modes (SW) even close MX player without an error or anything.
I was reading about that bug, I just got done watch in a bluray rip so I dunno? Tried attaching but I'm getting a token error...I'll look at the site and see which one I have.
UPDATE yep thats what im runnin. K I'm running stock settings and mp4 plays perfect. I wonder if its codec related. Do you have any mp4 video you could test?
Vplayer has had the 4.3 update and works brilliantly
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Hardware acceleration on vplayer don't work. Only in BSPlayer work proper
K after messing around trying to play a 720p video on vplayer(choppy as hell), bs(not much better) and MX player had no audio on mkv I got VLC. The latest nightly runs almost as good as MX, few weird pops and clicks, but totally watchable.

works on 4.3, no issues including custom codec.
Thanks everyone.
Tried VPlayer for a while. It was a nice run with VPlayer, but it's a battery clog/drainer, the holo ui is a nice thing about it, though.
That said, DicePlayer (my personal favorite and preferred choice) got 2 or 3 updates a few days ago and has been playing everything smoothly.
I got an update for MX Player earlier today, everything appears to be working again. Just thought I'd throw it out there for MX Player users/fans.
