[Q] Need to go back to Stock Rom without USB - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hi,
my USB port on my phone is broken and I need to go back to stock ROM for warrenty. Currently I use the Paranoid ROM 4.2.2 JDQ39 (3.67) and TWPR recovery. I read a lot of posts but I didn´t find a complete guide. So I want to ask if I can do it this way?
1. Close Bootloader with "BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices" app from the playstore
2. Download Factory Image 4.2.2 from the google developers page
Extract everything. I need the files: System.IMG, Boot.IMG, Userdata.IMG, Recovery.IMG ? Or do I need other files?
3. Install Mobile Odin Pro on my phone
4. Load the IMG files in Mobile Odin Pro and start
Is this right? What is with the radio? I have XXLJ1 on my phone. I think it is the latest. Isn´t it?
It would be nice if someone can help me.
thanks

You'll have to close the bootloader last otherwise you won't be able to flash the imgs.
I don't know if you'll can, you'll have to keep root when you reset it because you'll have to lock the bootloader last, then you could factory reset.
Not sure though.

I thought I don't need a open bootloader for Odin Mobile?

I just did this with the same problem about a month ago, and I relocked the bootloader first because you won't have root or a way to use fastboot to lock it afterward. Odin worked just fine with bootloader locked.

Does nobody know if i can do it this way?

i sent my gnex in for the same broken usb port issue, and all i did to the bad one was do a factory reset on cm10.whatever it was at the time, and locked the bootloader with that app, probably did that first i guess lol.
but they havent charged me for that, so i assume its all good, its been a few months so if they were going to charge me they would have i assume

But I´m not sure if it works for me too, so I would like to try to go back to stock ROM. The problem is that I don´t know if it works with this guide and I don´t want to make a mistake.

can anyone tell me if it is possible to use the 4.2.2 factory image from the google developers site or do I have to use a special odin file?
If I have to use a odin file where can I find it? I only found old files with android 4.0.1
thanks in advance for any help.

Can anybody help me with my problem? I try to go back to stock to send it in.
Thanks

This may or may not be relevant but I used to have a T989 (TMO GSII) and the USB port when bad as well. Any connection that I attempted would last brief moments and in one of those, I took the chance and tried restoring. What ended up happening is the update did not complete and the phone remained in the ODIN screen even after reboots. I sent it in like so and they still honored the warranty. So what I'm trying to say, as a last resort you could intentionally brick your GN...
I have heard however, that warranty companies don't always check to see if you've messed with the software so there's another thought.

Just send it back as is. Your problem is hardware related, not software. They'll refurb the phone and re-image it anyway.

Thanks for your answers!
OK I understand. But is it that dangerous to go back to stock without USB, so I shouldn't do it or is it only that you think it is not necessary?

Why dont you download this on your phone directly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882248 and then flash it using Mobile Odin or Recovery. Dont flash SuperUser. Factory reset and then lock the bootloader.
Wouldnt that work?

I think I could flash this with TWRP, if it´s no problem that I come from Paranoid 4.2.2 ? But it is not really stock. Is it? What happen than when I do the factory reset? Does it erase TWRP? And I think I need root to lock the bootloader...

So lets try this again, OK?
1. Download the stock rom from the link and copy to your phone
2. Boot into TWRP
3. Wipe data
4. Flash the stock 4.3 rom you downloaded
5. Reboot.
Now, you have stock 4.3 but you are still rooted. A factory reset from the OS doesnt unroot you or takes away your root.
6. Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker&hl=en and lock yout bootloader. This will do a wipe again. Now reboot.
7. Remove /system/bin/su via adb shell or by using root explorer
8. Remove /system/app/Superuser.apk via adb shell on phone or by using root explorer
9. Factory reset.
Done. By now, you should be stock, unrooted and without any custom recoveries.

I have one more question. In step 3 should I do a factory reset before I flash the rom? Because I usually do one when I install a new rom and I don't want to do a mistake because I can't use usb to fix it. And is it OK that I go from 4.2.2 Paranoid to this 4.3 stock rom?

Before you flash the new ROM; you must wipe data.
And yes, its OK to come from 4.2.2 to 4.3 as long as you wipe data.

need to send device for warranty.. question about yakju/roms/unroot

I need to send my device in for warranty. It's from rogers and when I got it, it was not yakju. Right now its unlocked, rooted, and running AOKP, and franco. To put it back to oem state, I'm planning on using Wug's toolkit. That'll flash yakju, unroot it, and lock the bootloader.
My question is whether this method will flash the factory kernel too, if it'll flash the stock recovery, and if my carrier will care/notice that I have yakju installed.
Ok so I got a backup of yakjuux. But then how do I flash this via Clockwork, unroot, flash stock recovery, and lock bootloader? Can someone point me to a thread.
If I send the device in with stock yakju, and locked bootloader, would they void my warranty. Can't I just tell em it came like that. There's no way they can prove I changed it.

Sounds right
Honestly MOST company's will honor their warranties if it is a hardware failure even with unlocked boot loader and custom recovery.

I'm assuming you downloaded my nandroid backup?
Here's what you need to do:
1) Unzip the file to a folder on your PC with the same name as the zip.
2) Place that folder on your device in /sdcard/clockworkmod/download
3) Reboot into CWM and restore the backup.
4) Using a file explorer that has root access, delete the following in order: 1) the contents of /system/xbin, 2) /system/app/Superuser.apk, 3) /system/su
5) Reboot into fastboot mode and flash the stock recovery from the yakju image (it is the same as yakjuux): fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6) Relock the bootloader: fastboot oem lock

4 can be done on your phone. If you want to do it on a computer, boot into CWM, plug into a computer an use rm to delete the files/directory. 5 and 6 NEED to be done on a computer.

download the galaxy nexus toolkit it can do all of that automatically for you. i had to return my first gnex and it took 20mins to bring everything back to stock. it includes everything you need except the factory image and you can download from google and put in the toolkit folder and it will flash it for you.

Here lies the point of this thread. The factory image is yakju and my phone came equipped with yakjuux.
Was yours originally yakju? if not did you have issues after you sent it back?
mine was yakju from my carrier. if you got your phone from the carrier then check if they rolled out yakju yet. if you use the images from here it will flash everything back to stock except recovery which you have to do after as well as lock the bootloader. flashing using the google images will also remove root. you can also try this cwm yajkuux from this thread

Do you read threads before you post?? The OP already said that his device came with yakjuux. It does not get "updated" to yakju... ever. So the images on Google's site are not very useful to him, now are they?
Secondly, he already said that he ALREADY downloaded my backup (from thread I started) so why are you linking to it??
Thirdly, and unrelated to the OP, the stock recovery IS included in the yakju images you linked to, so your comment about "it will flash everything back to stock except recovery" is wrong, as it does flash it.

[Q] HELP I seem to be stuck.....

Good Evening all,
I have a T-mobile Galaxy S3 that was rooted. That I took back to stock and unrooted using Odin and T999UVALEM_T999TMBALEM_T999UVALEM_HOME.tar......I let the phone sit for about 25-30 min and it never really made it past the pulsing SAMSUNG screen. Now I rebooted into Flashing Mode (Odin) and Flashed CF-Auto-Root-d2tmo-d2tmo-sght999.tar, thinking that would help.......however.....I still seem to be stuck.....How do I get myself unstuck? Thanks so much for any help .....

Have you tried using stock recovery and perform a factory reset? I also took mine back to stock via Odin, performed the factory reset and worked fine

Did you update to 4.3 while you were in stock? If you did that, maybe Knox is causing you these issues, if you havent been in 4.3 in stock, you shouldn't have that issue.
I would suggest flashing 4.1.2 version via odin, after that enter recovery and do a factory reset, after that reboot and it should start properly

I originally went to Stock 4.1.2....then got tried to root the phone thinking that flashing different Rom would fix the issue.....no dice...So I flashed back to the 4.1.2 Stock. Made my way around the block that pops up telling me I need to set it back to user mode and did the OTA update. After the update it was still saying that I was in Factory Mode....and needed to reset it to User Mode.....In did a hard reset and wipe....and it is still there.....I may be able to change it through root explorer but I need to root my phone again.....and I have no idea where a safe place to start would be for that....
@jinx0117
Sounds like your EFS folder might have been erased. You can root the phone and check with a file explore. If you don't have a backup of it, there is no way to recover it.
If you have updated to official 4.3 don't try to downgrade with odin or you will end up with a full brick.

Now I did follow some steps I found here on XDA to get around the Knox Security that T mobile put on the 4.3 update......I am able to flash Roms now with no issues.....thanks so much everyone for all your help!!!!
I will assume that if I want to take it back to stock again I would need to flash a 4.3 stock with Odin???? That way I don't brick my phone? Is that correct?:good:

Aroma is buggy, you just have to keep rebooting into recovery and keep trying, it will go. Some say it seems to work better without the usb plugged in.
As for team dirt I believe it is a aosp rom. If it is you will have to edit the updater script in the zip file so it know's your new 4.3 bootloader. META-INF>com>google>android>updater-script. If your on windows I suggest downloading notepad++ to edit the file. Just delete every thing down to where it
say's mount then save the file.
Update: I edited the updater for you https://www.dropbox.com/s/xucl47rh1wxg9rt/updater-script
Just put it in the zip file where I told you above, save and copy it to the zip and flash away.

No way to rollback into previous version, as no vendor supports downgrading . If u need your old software, just download Original stock firmware (definitely some older version :silly and reflash it with Odin as @Parth2187 mentioned:cyclops:
This is what I did. I had a nand bqckup of my 4.1.2 stock rooted rom.
1. Flashed 4.1.2 stock via Odin.
2. Root3d and flashed CWM recovery.
3. Once in recovery rolled back my original nand.
Please note if u end up in a boot loop. Make aure u go to stock recovery and do data/factory reset and wipe cache and u r good to go.
Hope helps. Worked foe me.

I don't think a factory reset can unroot a device. I am not pretty sure about this, if u are successful in that, its okay. But factory reset just formats the internal SD card. It wont do anything with /Root directory. When you are rooting a phone, we flash SU to the /root directory.. Then how come a factory reset can unroot a device. Probably impossible! Correct me if i am wrong

Need Help, BootLooping after Odin Stock Flash to BPA1

So I pretty muched messed up while trying to flash my phone and was going to factory reset it to start back over. I was using KingoRoot on pc to establish root then unlock the bootloader etc. After running the adb commands to unlock the bootloader the phone reset, ran again to finish commands and lucky me once it went to reboot it started bootlooping. So I hunted forever and finally found a bpa1 firmware file i could flash on odin to go back to stock. Using the full firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937 I used odin to flash it back to stock. So it passed went to recovery did its thing then starts up and is bootlooping again. I'm kinda lost what to do now. Help Please lol\
After rooting and unlocking, you need to install a compatible kernel, like multi kernel that supports being rooted

You mentioned that you were trying to unlock your bootloader. Did you try taking the SD card out?

The bootloader unlock procedure essentially corrupts your sd card. You need to reformat the whole thing since it becomes riddled with insane partitions during the process. You didn't do anything wrong, you just need to remove the card after you unlock and then reformat it later.
lmfao u stated u had 5.1.1 .....

Flash TWRP on RUU'ed Stock ROM without PC?

Hey,
Quick question, I'm away on holiday and had to use an RUU to reset my phone completely back to stock. I don't have my PC with me but was wondering if there might be any other way to get TRWP installed so I can get back to custom ROM's before the end of my trip?
Regards,
Ravi

I've described how to do this for CM-based ROMS with Samsung devices. Unfortunately, I know of no way to do this for the HTC 10. The issue is getting it rooted. My understanding is that the Sunshine app can root some 10s, but not all. You could try that. When you run the app it will do a series of tests on your device. If it cannot be rooted by the app it will give the message, "Root is required first." Otherwise, the app can root your device and proceed from there. Once rooted you could then use Flashify to install TWRP.

Thanks guys!!
I'm trying to figure out, if I want to flash just the recovery with the no wipe zip, can I delete all the other .img files within the zip or do I have to edit the Android-info.txt for the corresponding lines?
No issue in flashing the no wipe file as it is, just curious for future reference if I wanted to create easy 2PS6IMG.zip's in the future.

I simply take the firmware.zip from OTA, delete all .img files, rename twrp.IMG to recovery.IMG and repack it to 2PS6IMG.zip
You don't need to change the android-info.txt as partitions without images won't get wiped, even if it says so.
You can flash Boot, Recovery and..... And.... Which was the third one? Without S-Off or signed firmware package.
