Xenomix CD slot tablet mount does not work - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

I got a Xenomix CD mount for my old Nexus 7 and it worked beautifully. Today, my family hit the road for a vacation, and the new 2013 model is too skinny to work. I'm going to check the thicker pads when I get home in a few days (which I'm doubting will make much of a difference), but right now it looks like a no go.
Now I'm contemplating the Mountek holder as it handles skinnier items a bit better.
Just thought I'd give some of you a heads up regarding this.

have not tried yet but should work if you have a case... don't want to buy a new car mount..
Sent from my Nexus 7

I would guess it was about a1/4-1/2 inch gap that needed to be closed. I don't know if a case will cover that. The 2012 N7 just fit in the mount without the arms having to be moved to much from closed.

DIY mount

So a long time ago I posted a DIY I found on lifehackers well today I decided to do one myself.
All that was needed was a garmin car mount
HTC evo hard case
Something to cut with
double sided tape or crazy glue
Here are the pictures
Good to see my textbook came in handy for something lol

But seriously, nice work. looks clean.
Lol srry. Thank you. It would have been much cleaner if I had a cutting tool, I had to heat up the knive to cut the plastic. I must say that its the best mount I have came across, I would not think about spending that much money on the official mount

Nicely done!
thanks bro when i get in my car ill take some pictures of it mounted

awesome work. looks mighty legit!!!!
I love this mount. I made one last year for my Hero, and this year I made a similar mount for my Evo with the ball joint Garmin bracket(or whatever its called) & belt clip holster. I borrowed my friends dremel and cut/melted the mount to fit together, then glued it with plastic weld. The one for the Evo I also bought a Garmin cigarette lighter dock, so i can now mount my phone on the windshield or near my stereo. I plan on posting up pictures in the near future.
Yeppz, the case I used was an evo beltclip I find it easier to release the phone from the dock unlike the snap on case. So far this beats all the mounts including the high end ones

well done thank you
Followed the pics and did this too, it's win.
Going to see if I can find a permanent base for my cars dash though. Works great attached to the window just too distracting for me because of how the car's setup.
Looks great, but for EVO owners going foward, you might want to look into this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/WINDSCREEN-CAR-...Accessories&hash=item483f2e94ff#ht_4457wt_902
I bought one and it works great and only $3.97.
Again, kudos on your skills and thanks for the info.

Best Car Mount - **Video Inside Updated 3-10-3012

I have never been a fan of car mounts, I just hate putting stuff on my window and the suction cups eventually fail. I've seen universal mounts that mount on your air vents but those are big and bulky and don't have the OEM look and feel. So I decided to make my own...

I decided to post an update to this since I received lots of positive feedback on YouTube and you guys contributed some great ideas. Thanks to @brycetrem for posting this original idea, I decided to take it even a step further. I must say the results are awesome, take a look at Version 2.0!

Fair warning, if I pass you going down the road and you're watching a movie in the front seat, I will be running you off the road and into the ditch.
Seriously man, you don't need the cops to tell you that kind of distraction is really ****ing stupid.

Lol with the exception of my Q5 all the vehicles I have owned have had video playback. As a matter a fact, my first car in 1999 had a custom monitor. Turning the channel on the radio is a distraction. You should YouTube "Vic Gundotra Mercedes". So it doesn't matter if your watching TV or not.

I got the car mount that fits in the CD player. Works awesome, best I've ever owned for any device. Very high quality. Easy to use. Vertical or horizontal. Also CD player in my car is at just the right height, I don't like the mounts for dash or windows.

That looks great! How well does it fit with your phone? I was never a fan of universal mounts, just because they tend to be bulky since they have to be a "one size fits all" solution. I prefer more of an OEM approach where its as slim as possible. I do like your setup though, thanks for sharing +1

Honestly it fits nice and snug. Also great because I can use any size case I want. The mount rotates 360 degrees and has padded clamps for the phone with an easy access eject button. For being an unheard brand, its definitely high quality and extremely durable/sturdy. I'd recommend it to anyone with a smart phone.

I've used the Mountek mounts now for nearly 2 years. Had it for my droidx. Also have other family members using it for the iPhone and GPS devices, etc. They work great and also allow a certain degree of angulation - maybe 15 degrees or so in addition to the 360 degree swivel feature. Can be used with any case and also leave the camera free for use if required.
That looks really good. I think I'm going to try and do something like that with my Pro Clips mount. I want to order the Nexus holder, but at $60 including shipping the thought of paying that makes me wanna puke.
I like the looks of the mount by the OP but with a case on the phone, it won't work. I bought the Arkon unit a few months ago and it is nice but big. The CD slot mount looks neat but does it does it hurt the slot opening in any way? There is usually a felt lining on the cd opening?

great work however having cold AC going over the hot CPU or GPU is not a good idea because condensation can build up and lead to corrosion over time.
Its why people don't cool there desktop computers with external air conditioners, if its just the fan blowing its fine.
But honestly that looks really nice good work

Actually, The AC is de-humidified. That is why many de-foggers also turn the AC on with the heat to clear the windshield.
The CD player will not be harmed. There are 4 teeth that stick into the CD player only about a half an inch, not far enough to hurt the CD player. There is a knob on the bottom of the unit that you twist to tighten the grip of the teeth. Basically when tightening, two teeth are forced up and two down to make sure the harness is sturdy. The teeth are basically a soft plastic.

That's what I'm going to try. Bracketron offers several different AMPs to ball mount plates. I'd post a link but this is literally my first post.
I'm hoping one of those ball plates will fit into the GNex mount. I also bought short (2-3") 3.5mm audio and micro USB charging cables that I will then try bonding/fiberglassing to the cradle so I don't have to plug them in every time. And then cutting the top of the stupid mount off so I can slide the phone in from the top

Mixed feelings about these sticky pads.
I had one a long time ago and after it got some dust on it it didn't work at all.
Not sure if these newer ones are different, but the one I had never worked very well. I would definitely not trust it to hold my phone.
Apparently the sticky part is washable on some of the newer ones .

They work well, just make sure you switch your placement of the pad every now and then otherwise it will leave a spot on your dash

they're very cheap from ebay, only $1.50 a piece so make sure you get a few of them because you will have to change them every month or so. However, they do work really well and yes, even if you drive crazy, they won't fall off. (i know only because I track my car) but i don't see how crazy you can drive on the street to have it slip.
If you have a silicone case on one of those it makes it stick even more.

Desk dock or stand

While looking for a desk dock I found this one from Samsung:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EDD-D100BEGXAR-gallery
Looks like it does come with a separate power adapter, which is nice. Amazon doesn't sell that one yet though.
I was thinking about getting this stand instead:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CKVOOY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Should be compatible with Note 10.1 I take it. $10 is hard to pass up on too.
Do you guys like powered desk docks or stands better? Thanks.
The EDD-D100 does not come with a new power adapter. You have to use the power adapter and cable that came with the Note 10.1. The EDD-D100 package contains only the dock itself.
The dock should be widely available as it was sold for the older Tabs already.
Thanks for clarifying that. Odd, can't seem to find it on Amazon.
Yes, that's strange. Amazon.de (Germany) has it, Amazon.com not.
I have the Arkon and it works great for the Note and my Nexus 7.

I've had that Arkon for awhile and it has worked with everything:
Viewsonic G Tablet
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Acer A700
Nexus 7
and now the Galaxy Note 10.1
It's my desk stand, and use it to hold the tablet while cooking.
For the compatibility and price it cannot be beat.
I also have the Arkon

I went to Amazon.com and found the same product from i.TREK for $7.50 compared to Arkon's price of $13.03.

Been using Arkon for a couple of days now. Sticky padding that tab rests on started peeling off. Probably gonna send it back.
Also got Samsung's dock but haven't opened it yet. Just thinking it might not be convenient using it as a main dock due to that connector. So, I think I'll keep looking.
Just buy some padding and replace it.

True but one shouldn't be doing that on a week old stand. It's gonna be an ongoing problem and I think is a design issue.

(Video Review) Sonivo Nexus 5 Wallet Case with a Sleep sensor

Here it is guys, the review I done for this case. Absolutely in love with it.
I thought I'd share this with everyone as if you look online there really are no wallet cases in the world like this to have the sleep wake function.

Does the magnet interfere with the phone in any way? Maybe the compass or any other sensors?
[Edit] also, is the phone held snugly in the case or does it seem like I could come out with just a bit of flexing?

It's fairly easy to get the phone in and out. If you insert the case one side at a time its really easy. I normally insert the phone in from the left side then once that's in, clip the right side it. Getting it out is the same thing just in reverse. The support on the case is tough but does have a bit of allowance to allow the phone to come out.

No movement from the phone once it's in the case. It's a hard case support thats made especially for the Nexus 5 so once the phone is in won't be going anywhere.
Hope that answers your questions.
One other question: does qi charging work with this case or is it too thick?

Seconded. This looks like the best case with an autowake cover. But it's also the only one that's not available in North America
I was curious about this wake n sleep function and played with a magnet on the phone, the sensor seems to be on the top left corner of the screen. Might glue a thin magnet into the cheapish pink wallet case my gf got for her N5 to ad this feature :good:
Where can or will Americans be able to purchase this? This case seems to be the best option and I only use wallet cases.

I have one that's similar:
http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Googl...=UTF8&qid=1384880507&sr=8-13&keywords=supcase
The only issues are (1) doesn't work with a car mount as is a frequent case problem and (2) the phone seems to get hotter with a wireless charger than the phone gets without the case on.
I'm assuming if you have this case, you have your phone in your jacket pocket.
I'm also a bit worried about the magnet for the flap, wouldn't it demagnetize your cards?
