I wish it had more storage, but it beats carrying around an OTG cable and flash drive. It looks like a new product since it's not in stock yet and has no reviews. Onite generally has good reviews.

Check www.meenova.com
I think that's what you really want.

That Meenova is exactly what I want. I have a spare microsd 64gb laying around and I really hate the idea of something two inches long sticking out the bottom of a tablet while I'm holding it. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Features are nice but why did they put that curve at the bottom instead of rounding it off. It just makes the thing look unbalanced and adds extra footprint for no apparent purpose, other than style, which is questionable.

I have had good luck with this type -
http://dx.com/p/2-in-1-usb-male-to-...-cable-tf-card-reader-cell-phone-strap-100402
You can charge the device or use it as a TF card reader/writer.

Do you have to be rooted to use this?

Yes. You need to install stick mount app which requires root.

Does the end where you insert the microsd card actually double as a regular USB reader? There seems to be a lot of exposed contacts there and I'm wondering what they are for.

That's really convenient.
Please update on how it works out.
I think the meenova is better for someone wanting to extend storage but this device is more useful for people wanting to transfer large files fast between PC and tablet. MTP mode is just slower on many PCs and wireless takes some setup which is ok on your own machine but more of a pain when you want to grab some files from someone else quickly.

Keep us posted on these and let us know how they are. I'm very interested

wonderful. It almost compatible with all my device, such as tablet, cellphone, computer.......
I will upload my pictures some days later.
Some regret is that it is not 16G or more. I hope to keep some movie in it.

Couldn't you just get a USB OTG cable and then use whatever flash drive/card reader/etc you want? The micro usb end of the stick in the OP probably is just that anyways, hard wired to the flash chip.

Sure you could, but products like these are about convenience.
I think I may either go with this
http://dx.com/p/otg-usb-micro-sd-tf-card-reader-w-3-5mm-dustproof-plug-white-silver-215617
or meenova.com
Since they support adding your own card rather than being limited to what they manfucturer includes.

All of these do not work. I purchased the meenova, the i link, and that one other micro SD card reader, and they are junk. Not even worth the $5 I spent on each of them.

Do you honestly not see how big of a joke it is of what you've asked?
The "contest" is attracting these responses because of the monumental difficulty in the project. What you're asking isn't feasible in the least. Even if someone were able to source the parts, removing the flash chip and also having it register with proper drivers will take ages. Not only that, but you'll have to have any ROM you use custom made for you alone. The task is insanely difficult and prohibitively expensive. Offering $6 for it is like asking someone to build a skyscraper for a fifty.

Miniature MicroSD Reader (Kickstarter project)

Hey guys,
For those of us running custom ROMs that enable USB-OTG, I just saw a really cool kickstarter project yesterday (and am already a backer) for a miniature microsd reader that you can just plug into your phone/tablet. I'm not in any way related to this project, I just really, really want to see it get funded. Here's an excerpt from the project page http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/andyfei/mini-microsd-reader-for-android-smartphones-and-ta
Hello world! You like your Nexus tablet but you hate the fact that it doesn't have a built-in SD card reader for storage expansion? My brother and I felt that way when we first got one in July 2012. So we decided to do something about it -- make one for it. After many months of hard work, finally we have something that we feel good about and we want to share with the world.
What does it do?
Well, it is just like a SD card reader that you use on your computer, except it is for Android tablets and smartphones that have MicroUSB port. You can use it to read/write MicroSD cards, copy files between your phone/tablet and a MicroSD card.
It supports MicroSDHC cards up to 32GB (max capacity by SDHC standard), and MicroSDXC cards up to 64GB (max capacity available on the market). SDXC standard supports cards up to 2TB -- this reader should support future MicroSDXC cards of higher capacity up to that, but we have no way of testing it right now.

64GB is AT&T exclusive in the States. Not available in Canada. Other markets/carriers may carry it though.. lucky [email protected] lol
Man - if they combined a Qi charger and micro-SD card slot into a case, I would pay anything for it.
And make it so the USB cable makes a u-shaped bend around to the back of the phone so it doesn't add any "height" to the phone.
You could probably do the whole thing adding only a few mm to the thickness, and nothing to the other dimensions...
lol i was an early backer of this. i backed it right when i got my phone. already have a 64gb sd card waiting for it. lols

Received this today, shipping didn't take too long to the UK. The seller included a free micro SD USB adapter with it. The OTG adapter itself works fine, the lid feels like it might break off eventually though. The micro USB part is longer than usual which allows the adapter to fit over my Spigen Slim Armor case.
The PK'2 Paris USB is a perfect solution. Its micro SD card and a 16GB thumbdrive with a USB and Micro USB connection.

Although it is on the expensive side. It is really convinient to have all of those things available on one small USB keychain.

Not sure of the speeds of this but probably sufficient for viewing on tablets.
Can't find any detail on the weight of it, hoping it wouldn't be too heavy and place stress on the connector in landscape mode.

Anyone have experiences with these?
The Imation looks pretty cool. I like the little swivel that makes it one piece. I ordered the Meenova and got it a few weeks back. This is my first experience with any OTG, so I really have nothing to compare it to. It took me a little bit to get it working correctly, but that was my own fault for not having a compatible rom/kernel. After I flashed SlimKat, and downloaded Nexus File Manager from the Play Store, it works perfectly. So far, I am really happy that I purchased the Meenova. I'd be interested to hear about someone who has used any of the products linked in the OP.

I've have a Meenova for about a month and can't recommend it enough. Price and functionality make it a huge winner in my books. Here is a link to my initial experiences with a Meenova. It includes pictures with my N5 and Spiegel Ultra Hybrid case. Also with the announcement of 128GB micoSD cards there has been many sales on all sizes of cards including 64GB which the Meenova supports. So far I have not seen whether the Meenova can handle the 128GB cards but their Web site had an in brackets comment beside the 64GB stating "largest available" and the reader supports the same standard as required by the 128GB cards.

I have the Leef. It's a great price on Amazon and works great. Could be a bit faster but I picked it because it doesn't have loose caps to lose.

I have the 32GB Patriot Stellar because I wanted USB 3.0 and it's great, no complaints. I haven't formally tested it's speed on the PC end, but seems fast enough.
on question, any of these worked in TWRP?
it always fail to mount when i try to access it in recovery

Meenova works for sure since I've used it several times... Can't say for other brands but I don't see the reason why it wouldn't work :/
I think this might be one I'd be interested in, given the small size. USB 2.0 doesn't bother me that much, as long as it does max out the write speed at 30MB/sec or so, and not the typical slow speed of kingston datatravellers at 3-5MB/sec

Leef 16gb
Sony 16gb
The Sony has the micro-usb inside the cap
Here's the transcend one, can't fault it so far. Works fine, speeds aren't bad either

I saw the Leef one and didn't really like how big it is. The Sony one is excellent but I need to find an adapter which is no issue for a computer. That way I can have a tiny otg for my phone and a flash drive for my computer.

The Kingston picture looks like that thing is from 1986. Lol.

an adapter for the Sony? it has both USB and Micro-USB connector, you don't need an adapter to connect to a computer
check the sony website below for the actual pic of the usb drive
