[The Obligatory][ROOT First] Applications Safe to Remove - Ouya Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

List of stuff in system/app that you should/shouldn't delete.
All at your own risk, thx.
Notes:
- If my Galaxy S2 and Acer Liquid are of any indication, deleted apps stay deleted through a factory reset. BACKUP FIRST!
- ROM updates will most likely restore those deleted apps along with trashing your root. <_<'
- The Ouya stock ROM is odexed. You MUST delete the odex as well to excise the app completely. (You probably want to clear app data before deleting too, if you can.)
- I have the Xposed Framework installed, complete with Play Store and all that. I think I excluded all the files I pushed into System/App, but tell me if I made a mistake here.
Get rid of them if you feel like it
NoiseField.apk / .odex (Live wallpaper, android default)
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk / .odex (Live Wallpaper, android default)
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk / .odex (Live Wallpaper, android default)
VisualizationWallpapers.apk /.odex (Live Wallpaper, android default)
LiveWallpapers.apk/ .odex (Live Wallpaper, android default)
??? I think I shouldn't touch these but they don't seem necessary ???
Phone.apk/ .odex (...why is this here? The Ouya doesn't do GSM/CDMA voice...)
OUYAOOBE.apk/ .odex (OOBE = Out Of Box Experience, the setup program you go through on first run. Keep for Factory Reset safety.)
OUYAKeyboard.apk / .odex (I think this is the best IME you can use with the controller. Don't get rid of it.)
OUYAWallpaper.apk / .odex (OuyaLauncher is hardwired to use this Live Wallpaper, and I really don't wanna find out what happens if I toast it.)
Galaxy4.apk /.odex (Is this a Live Wallpaper?)
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk/ .odex (This one allows you to select Live Wallpapers that you installed. Ouya's stock launcher doesn't care, but if you're using BAXY, KEEP THIS)
SoundRecorder.apk/ .odex (The Ouya has no mic port but does support bluetooth headsets and their mics...)
UserDictionaryProvier.apk /.odex (SPEL CHUCKER)
VpnDialogs.apk / .odex (I think this allows you to VPN into your device. It may come in handy... if I ever learn how to use this function. :3)
!!! Do not touch !!!
MusicFX.apk / .odex (This is your "sound driver")
OuyaLauncher.apk / .odex (System UI, he who removes this - good luck, I can't help you)
PackageInstaller.apk /.odex (Unless you want to lose your ability to install .apks you copied into the device...)
Settings.apk /.odex (You get rid of this your business)
SettingsProvider.apk / .odex (see: Settings)
ApplicationsProvider.apk / .odex (Do you want to NOT run anything?)
BackupRestoreConfirmation.apk / .odex (Android's backup/restore interface. May be useless since Stock Ouya has no Google connection. Not touching because I'm not sure.)
Bluetootk.apk / .odex (Look I know ICS/JB Bluetooth has issues but at least the hardware's usable...)
Browser.apk/ .odex (??? ...not touching)
CertInstaller.apk /.odex (Since a lot of the good stuff is signed these days, don't get rid of this...)
DefaultContainerService.apk /.odex (??? ...not touching)
DownloadProvider.apk /.odex (unless you don't want to download anything ever again...)
DownloadProviderUi.apk/.odex (This one kicks in if you try to download a file from a web browser...)
DrmProvider.apk/ .odex (As much as I hate DRM, I'm leaving this in here just in case some DRM protected media files won't run...)
HTMLViewer.apk/ .odex (This is Ouya's internet browser, I think...)
InputDevices.apk /.odex (Unless you want your Ouya to become a paperweight...)
KeyChain.apk /.odex (Linked very closely to CertInstaller)
MediaProvider.apk /.odex (Music/Movie playback backend)
NetworkLocation.apk /.odex (I think this is the Assisted part of AGPS. It's also what allows Google Search to fuzzy your location if your GPS is off.)
NvCplSvc.apk /.odex (Rule of thumb, NEVER remove files with arcane names, because it could be the OS maker obfuscating an important system app...)
SharedStorageBackup.apk /.odex (???)
SystemUI.apk /.odex (... trust me, you don't wanna)
Ouya's firmware is actually quite clean and barebones, I'll give them that! No goddamn telco bloat!
Don't worry about getting rid of Live Wallpapers unless you really like the android defaults. You can always pull the APKs from another device and use them. Just don't get rid of the Picker if you want to keep using LWPs. (I suggest keeping the OuyaWallpaper, which happens to be an LWP, to keep the Picker happy.)
If I make any mistakes here, feel free to correct me.

The calculator does only the basic stuff and on the market I've found one which is way better.
Calendar.apk
Calendar.odex
Is this the default Android Calendar? The HTC Calendar is nother app, right? So I won't need this one.

HTCFacebook.apk
HTCFacebook.odex
Not using Facebook and Twitter and not planing to. I've found the Twitter Widget but how is the app called? Or is there none? HTCTwitter.apk?
com.htc.StockWidget.apk
com.htc.StockWidget.odex
The app for this is Stock.apk, right? Somebody know what stk.apk is?
teeter.apk

Again ... I'm using the HTC Mail app.
HTCFootprints.apk
HTCFootprints.odex
HTCFootprintsWidget.apk
HTCFootprintsWidget.odex

Can Mode10Wallpapers be deleted too?
What is LiveWallpaperPicker?
What are these apps and do I need them? Clickr, Flickr
And the app called Peep is unnecessary for me too but can't find it in the app folder of the ROM.
Hope somebody could help me. I didn't find an explanation for the every app.
This might help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6710113&postcount=5
Yes. Already found this one. But it only tells me how to remove not what can be removed without problems.
Im an advocate of trial and error,,,,,
Nobody who could help?
I just tryed my luck with the rom from which i removed quite a lot apk's. Put it on the SD, went to recovery mode, wipded the data and installed zip from SD Card.
No problems so far. But it didn't remove any app. Stock, Facebook, etc. still there. Some Ringtones which i removed from the rom are still there too.
What did I do wrong?

S-OFF. What apk`s can be removed?

What apk`s can be removed with S-OFF?

I have also removed most of the stock ringtones. I would like to know if anybody else has removed som other apk`s without running into any trouble.
Iàm going to remove the stock HTC music player and stock HTC internet browser as I use other programs for these tasks. If someome has tried this please advice me on how it worked out.
The point of removing these apk`s are to get rid of things I don`t use and to get a smaller leaner rom.
I have now removed more apk`s.
Com.htc.MusicWidget.apk andcon.htcMusicWidget.odex
HtcMusic.apk and HtcMusic.odex
Gmail.apk and Gmail.odex

I feel that the phone boots faster and is a bit snappier. Things seem to go just a bit faster once booted into sense.
I don`t know if there are any more apk`s that can be removed without causing issues.
Moved to Q&A. Please do not post question threads in Development.
I'm not allowed to post links, yet, but "wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Barebones" might help...
Thank you. I have looked at your link.
Noob question but how did you removed them?
I used a program called root explorer. The files are located in /system/app.
I copied the apk`s to my sdcard just in case something went wrong and and to be restored. It is also possible to delete them directly.
What is the size of your ROM now?
Can you check that?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I would do it if I knew how exactly. If you can advice me on how to do it I will.
Have Astro and root explorer on the phone.
so then, how many free space do you have in internal memory ?

Internal memory won't change when deleting stuff from the system partition, if you want more internal memory by removing preinstalled apps you have to move some of you own apps from /data/app to system/app.

"crap list" --- files wished to remove

Can we please collect/post files, which are "useless" and how to remove?
Example.
JAVA Mildets are useless because only Demos...
Important things:

And few more...
I hope you understand what I wish.
Thanx in advance.

AllShare is DLNA samsung implementation
You can stream video audio pics from to,through DLNA enabled devices.
And it works fine.
Samsung has own Pc version of DLNA server but it's not best.
Best which i found is servioo
http://www.serviio.org/ works like a charm
Phone enables wifi when you start AllShare becouse DLNA devices must be in same network

SystemFS\MediaSet\Idle\miniWidget: All .swf gadgets
SystemFS\User\Idle\PshIdleWidgetList.ini
In CSC all preconfiguration except default, it's the only one used.
Open Source Announcement.pdf in SystemFS\Media\Others
For now, perhaps I will remember something else later lol
Kona.exe aka Samsung Apps... has several Languages and Resolutions...
Code:
ScreenDensity-Low
ScreenDensity-Middle
.xml (language Text)
If you kick unneeded stuff... then around 3 MB less.
Same for the other Apps... I don't need all *.xml language files...
Best Regards
Edit :
Code:
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/[B]kfdoqs63to[/B]
This can remove ChatON... for instance.
Use QuB for instance to send this Command.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12436452&postcount=1
In this kind you can remove Apps from Osp folder... if trouble or you don't like them...
Best Regards
Edit 1.
Short tested on XXLA1... with success:
ChatON
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/kfdoqs63to
Music HUB
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/1xd3tvpnc5
Caster
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/577yx64nrt
Yahoo
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/5zdx8bkb6w
GTALK
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/8c59h50loa
MSN
AppPkgUninstall /Osp/Applications/760n3w3202
Nearly all Apps from Osp folder can be removed by this Command...
Only Kona + BDAgent left
Code:
36cbr89p8t\Bin\BDAgent.exe
8d7uw8z551\Bin\Kona.exe
Maybe then with Account trouble... as this seems additional Account App
Code:
rcz4775900\Bin\Bori.exe
I can remove this complete or not install it before (removed from FW), and I can still access Samsung Account.
Remember to delete "Emergency Backup" from AppEx\Sys\SamsungAccount.
Other Accounts not tested...
But maybe this is the funny country check. As this App will also updated if Kona + BDAgent is forced to update...
Best Regards
ScreenDensity-Low
or 240xbla, HVGA etc..
Few folders are for multi Resolution... but we have only 480x800 WVGA on S8500/S8530/S8600...
So few folders can removed complete...
Best Regards
Yes, it is safe to delete most of the excess resolution folders.
It is also safe to delete all the unneeded language xml files in the apps res folders.
The problem here is that these deleted files and folders are all re-installed during updates (like Samsung Apps update).
So makes no much sense in deleting them (except you have a firmware with all the apps already updated).
The only exception here is the 0rq06e23py (SevenIM) folder.

[GUIDE] Streamlining the EmotionUI

Hi there!
Only just recently owning the P6, one of the first things I do is streamlining the rom. Even though EmotionUI is nice, its packed with stuff I (and you most probably too) don't use.
HOW TO REMOVE SYSTEM APPS:
Step 1) Get your P6 rooted
Step 2) Get an app thats able to remove or freeze (disabling) system apps, like this
Step 3) Remove any unwanted apps. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF ONE APPS' PURPOSE, GOOGLE IT, OR LEAVE IT ALONE.
BARE MINIMUM LIST:
I've been testing the removal of apps, and made a list of the one's you should keep at a bare minimum (or the apps cannot be removed).
AndroidHWEXT (Got something to do with the text that's shown in Android)
APNreminder (used for showing Acces Point Names)
Backup (speaks for itself, for making/restoring backups)
Bluetooth.apk (I hardly use this, but removing it causes crashes)
Camera.apk (Somehow I cannot remove this)
CertInstaller.apk (Needed for installing apps)
CMParts.apk (Needed after resetting the phone)
Contacts.apk (Needed for storing contacts)
ContactsProvider.apk (Practically the same as above)
DefaultContainerService.apk (Basic system stuff)
DrmProvider.apk (Secures the stuff on your phone)
HuaweiHome (homescreen, do not remove when no replacement is installed, like Nova Launcher)
MediaProvider.apk (Needed for providing images, music etc. but also ringtones, system sounds and the alarmclock)
Mms.apk (System SMS MMS Program)
PackageInstaller.apk (Installs your apps)
Phone.apk (System phone app)
Profiles (needed for vibration)
Settings.apk (for getting into settings)
SimToolKit (all sorts of SIM-related info is read and stored via this)
SUPL20Services (???? anyone?)
SystemUI (speaks for itself)
ToolBox (basic tools?)
Wifi(hotspot) (needed for wifi)
<to be updated>
NOT RECOMMENDED
I recommend not to remove these apps for the purpose they serve. Removing them will most probably not make your phone unusable.
DoblySound.apk (Used by the Music app)
AGPS.apk (used for improving GPS)
<to be updated>
GENERAL LIST OF APPS AND THEIR PURPOSE:
<to be updated>
REMEMBER! I am in NO WAY responsible for what YOU are doing to YOUR device. Use common sense. I'm just trying to help making the P6 an even nicer device to use!
Suggestions, questions, corrections, experiences, please share them!
Cheers
If you bought your phone from your carrier and it comes with a lot of carrier apps, plus if you don't want to see them again when you do a factory restore, you can delete them using file managers like the root explorer by delete everything in the /cust/(your carrier name)/en(or your language)/delapps/ folder.
I have a China Mobile version of Huawei P6 (P6-T00) and this worked for me, but I am not responsible for any damage that happens to your phone.

[Q] Stock apps that can be deleted?

I did a small search around the forums and couldn't see a thread compiling all stock apps that can be deleted. Is there one? If there isn't, it'd be appreciated to have a list so I can safely remove the bloat.
Thanks in advance!
