[Q] Always on Google Now mic? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I know someone on XDA made an app that allowed this, but I can't find it for the life of me. Does anyone know the name of the app? Thanks.

I know that the new Moto-X phone will be "always listening" and Google Now can be activated anytime by voice. However, there is yet to be solid confirmation this will be rolled out to other devices. One reason most devices do not use this is probably the strain it puts on the battery, always having to process audio.
A lot of threads seem to discuss this - how to achieve this task. However, it appears the general consensus is that the battery would drain to quickly.
I'm sorry this didn't really answer your question, maybe in the coming weeks, once people get their hands on the Moto-X, the hardware to implement the hands free Google Now will be studied in an attempt to replicate.
EDIT: I found something! I found an app in the play store called Open Mic+. It is really new and seems to accomplish the task you are talking about. The performance seems to be iffy for now, as its still in beta, and reviewers say it drains battery, but it could be really cool.

There's an app on Google play store called Google Mic +, it's the only one I could find. Works pretty well actually.

Yes- looks like it has been taken down. If someone has .apk we would really appreciate it!

Be you go. I don't know if this is the latest, but it's better than nothing:

Xda mobile app ads

I know that the new xda update includes adds and other stuff, there's fine.
I was wondering, if possible can xda make a paid app without ads? I would defiantly buy it. It would be nice and xda be making money too.
Please post here if you would like that and maybe we could get one.

hey dude every time i try to log on to the APP it tells me " need administrators permission to login...? " what do i have to do?
We added an ad so that we can continue to provide the app free. Surprisingly, we have gotten a lot of messages from people willing to pay to remove the ad. So, we are considering this, perhaps with a premium version that also adds new features.
Thanks for your input!

We're working on an update that should fix some of the issues with 1.3.1. In the mean time, try reinstalling, or rebooting your device. It works fine on my Nexus One with 2.2.1.

I agree with the no ad concept for a fee.
We are constantly bombarded with ads daily from every other medium so when I see ads, I uninstall.
In this case, XDA remains on my device because this is the best forum on the net, period.

Didn't know ads bother people so much. Games I know, but these ads are not bothersome at all.
Hypothethical question for the devs which would make you more money someone with who buys a $2 app or someone using an ad supported app. Just wondering

I would definitely buy it. The last thing I want to worry about is hitting the next page button and getting a 9.99 jamster charge on my bill because the ad captured my mobile number because of the app permissions or something like that. Thanks for the great app though

My carrier disabled third party billing to my account, but I think XDA uses a reputable source for the ads in the app (likely admob or google), who wouldn't allow someone to billl you $10 through merely clicking an ad.
But I'm sure Svetius can clarify which service generates the ads, and while it pays to be cautious, I reckon you're unlikely to get something like that as an app advert (though I am sure someone will try it some day...)

[TIPS] Samsung Galaxy S III: 15 Power User Tips

Hello members,
Every once and a while I come across an interesting article that is worth noting such as the article titled "Samsung Galaxy S III: 15 Power User Tips" over at PC World. There were some well not so known tips and great features that were listed in this article that wowed even me about the Samsung Galaxy III. Dont take my word for it, go over there and become informed. If you know of any other tips that were not posted, please do share the wealth.
Some examples are such as :
Save That Screen Retrieved from this article here:
"Take a screenshot. And another. And another. Taking screenshots with the S III is a snap—all you have to do is swipe the screen with your palm. So go ahead, take some more. And some more. And, well, you get the idea.
Other Android phones don't make it quite as easy. If you're using a phone running Android version 4.0 or later, you have to press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time"
Make the Phone a Flashlight
"Stop digging around your bag in the dark, hunting for your keys.
If you have your S III in hand, you've already got a flashlight. The Assistive Light widget—which you can add to your home screen by going to Apps, selecting the Widgets tab, and choosing Assistive Light—turns the camera's flash into a flashlight when you need it most. Some other Android phones have this widget as well.
Want to add the flashlight feature to your Android phone? Check out Tiny Flashlight + LED, available as a free download in Google Play."
Oh yes, here is a great one that I did not know of......
Wake Up in Style
Let's face it: We all have to get out of bed sometime. And what better way to face your day than to be prepared for all it has to offer.
Using the "Briefing" setting on your Galaxy S III's alarm clock, you can have your phone wake you by reading the time, weather and weather forecast, news headlines, and any appointments you may have lined up. To turn this feature on, go to alarm type in the settings menu and change it to briefing.
Not a Galaxy S III owner? Download WakeVoice from Google Play to get some of these features on your Android phone.

Yeah, it was like that shortly after the initial find. Considering though that you need the play store app to install any of it though it makes sense that they would just hide it while they investigate it themselves.

This is why I always look at all the permissions that an app requests...
Its also a reason why I prefer to get apps from the Amazon Appstore as well - at the bottom of the page you can see every detailed permission the app has. Most things on my phone came from Amazon.

Who am I name calling? The existence of Nexus fanboys are a real thing. Whenever geeks are involved, there will be fans and there will be fanboys. Leading up the launch of the G4, a point made about the G4 was that there would be less bloat and more Google which is why the stock LG browser no longer exists and why Chrome is the "stock" launcher.
Nexus fanboys are very vocal when it comes to putting down phones they have no intention of ever buying since it's not a Nexus anyway. You don't see them so much here since this is a phone specific forum, but elsewhere in general Android land, they are there.

Had I said nothing, there would still be fanboys. And if you don't believe "fanboy" is a real thing then you clearly haven't been on the Internet long. Go to any gaming forum and your eyes will be open. On the Android side of things, look for any self proclaimed Samsung knight.

I don't know the over feel of it I liked a lot. Chrome is nice but I liked the LG browser more it was my main browser and like stated it didn't kill my battery when I surfed. Right now my battery is getting murdered and I'm doing the same things I did with the G3 and it lasted me all day.
