[Q] Adding magnet to case and location of magnet - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Does anyone know where I can find a small thin button magnet that I can insert into the lining of an existing case that will activate the Nexus 7 sleep/wake?
Does anyone know the exact position on the Nexus 7 where the magnet needs to be located to trigger the function?
This is the case that I got from Office Max using that 20% off coupon.

Craft stores will have the magnet.

Confirmed that a vinyl refrigerator-style magnet is not sufficient to trigger the function, but a hunk of neodymium is. Will look for something like a 1/2" x 1/16" disc that I saw on Amazon at the hobby store after work.

I'll pick up a white grease pencil while I'm at the craft store so I can mark the location and post up a picture for anyone else's reference.

Dock Station

I really want to get a dock station so I can use the Desk Home and maybe watch some movies at work.
Does anyone know where to get one?
samsung accessory page - but they're not available yet
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...one-accessories/index.idx?pagetype=accsubtype
Nah, screw the Home Dock, who needs features like
'charging' and 'audio output' when you can have this little piece of genius:
most useful invention evar
When you're done using it to prop up your phone at work,
you can use it to clean all the **** outta your desk when your boss catches you.
How would you dock a phone that has its power connector on the top... LOL
It slides in sideways. Hence the desk app.
Make a paperclip stand!
I made one of these and it works great for my Vibrant. I have it on my desk at the office and plug the usb into my computer. I've been watching videos during lunch using this thing with no problems.
Can't beat that for $0.01. I did have to make three before I got it just right, so maybe the cost is more like $0.03.
Look at my paperclip stand. Its perfect, I just have to be carefull don't scratch it with the edges.
Ignore this. I dont know how delete a post
I made 3 or 4 of the paper clip ones and just never felt that it was that sturdy. Oh well. Off to the supply room to rumage for supplies.

You could use pencil erasers on the ends to not scratch it
Nice I like the idea
Now the price goes from $0.01 to $0.02

I've been wondering about this dock for a while now. Supposedly someone said they saw it in a video on Samsung's website, but I haven't seen anything. I hope it comes out soon, though. I really want one!

I just ordered this last night http://www.amazon.com/elago-Stand-A...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1280882983&sr=8-42

[Q] $6.10 for a HTC capacitive stylus?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xw-qvPr6sI
I just came across with it and the stylus does resemble the genuine HTC stylus that is sold at 20 UK pounds from the look of it...
OK I haven't really tried one but really tempted as paying a fraction of the original price.
Does anyone already have experience with this? I've had a few other low priced stylus but nothing's close to using a finger.
cool, i guess.
i just can't figure out one reason why i would use one?
When your finger isn't handy?
I use a mirror screen protector so finger print/trails make the screen not that visible sometimes. Stylus *should* be less problematic in this aspect.
Drawing and writing will need better accuracy also.

Coming from Windows Mobile, I miss my stylus for one. But I found it annoying when I am having lunch and surfing the web or texting- grease or ketchup would get on the screen. So in hope in avoiding this issue, i bought these stylus from ebay.

After testing them (3 pack), I can say I am not too pleased. I have to press hard to make it scroll down- sometimes tap hard to open an app. I am assuming having Zagg Invisible protective screen on doesn't help either. So, I now use my pinky only for surfing the web while I eat.
Goods received finally (actually early this week)!
A very simple test and appears to be working fine.
I don't have Invisible Shield but a simple clear screen protector.
Will update you guys after testing for another day or two.
make your own!
Conductive foam (the kind that microchips and other radio shack stuff comes in - heck might get it for free) + Pen or pencil metal end cap. Then trim as needed. The double function way would take a cheapo pencil, remove the eraser, replace eraser with foam, and then cut down the pencil as needed. Plus, you could always sharen the pencil and have a pencil too!
Very small binder clips make a great quick holster. The metal wire end also fits perfectly under the nail grove of you back cover for easy access at the top back of your phone (also a nice portrait stand), could also just make a small lanyard attachment.

At lunch, I enjoy reading the paper. Sometimes the paper is sold out, then I use my phone to catch up on news, facebook or check emails.
I don't know if you have eaten out at lunch lately, but alot of people who are eating alone, are either reading a newspaper or on their cell. You gotta love technology.

is there a way to put a cell phone strap on the Galaxy Nexus?
(anything short of drilling an actual hole on the Galaxy Nexus, of course! )
For me, i attached a charm around my phone's case between the camera and secondary microphone holes. Its nice since it doesn't force you to undo the charm whenever you are pulling out the battery door out =] all you do is remove the case and presto!

If you have one of the many Androidified Cruzer Lite case (with embossed Andy on the back) there's provision for a cell phone strap on one of the top corner.
There's no loop for a strap because it's not a clam shell phone, and nothing could be worse for the screen than precariously dangling it from your wrist/hip/purse to get banged around by whatever your body comes into contact with when you're walking around.
That's a $500 phone that you're considering hanging off of your body for the world to see, held on by a single strap. It's smaller than a purse, making it easier to steal, and worth more than most people make in a week. Think about that for a moment.
But if you're really that interested, case manufacturers often sell cases that come with a loop for attaching a strap. Google it.

But all other Samsung smartphones have strap holes..... The Galaxy Nexus seems to be the only exception.
I would just duct tape it to my hand.

If you get one of the cruzer lite cases as stated above, you dont have to drill or use a hole that it wasnt meant for. It has it on the upper right (if your phone's screen is facing you) corner.
As I am new here, I am not allowed to post links... Anyway, I saw a nice post by a guy in Japan with his brand new Docomo Galaxy Nexus. And in one of the pictures, you can see where he attached a strap to the small screw in the upper right hand corner above the SIM card.
If you search for "GALAXY NEXUS SC-04D で今日やった作業" you might be able to find it....
Hope this helps.

I think the fact of it being a $500.00 phone is why the OP wants a strap. I have never thought that they were solely for carrying the phone around, but to keep it from hitting the deck if it slips out of your hand while in use. Kind of the same way wii controllers have a strap to prevent you from impaling your TV.

One-handed portrait-mode case

I use my Galaxy Note 10.1 very often in portrait mode, and I'm looking for a decent cover which would allow me to hold it that way with one hand without too much strain or effort. So far I've found one case (MoKo-Slim-Fit-Folio on Amazon:B0088I9AX4), but it's received mixed reviews.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

OK, so yeah, I did see that, but I'm not sure which is the strap you're talking about. In my mind there'd have to be a strap going across the longer side for my hand to hold on to it. What were you talking about?

I had looked at the Moko. My problem is that it seemed that the strap looked a little flimsy. What are your thoughts?
Ideally, I'm imagining something that my hand fits snuggly into....
The hand strap is actually very sturdy. It remains tight (not all stretched out) after using it daily for over a month.
I think it is a quality product. If you want pictures or anything just let me know.

That's awesome of you! One of the pictures on Amazon says "Elastic band to hold the cover open". So does that mean that you can actually keep it from opening when you're holding it in portrait mode, or will it still "flip open" if you happen to move your wrist the wrong way? (Hope that makes sense!) If you wouldn't mind posting some photos (or even a little video?), that would be great, but not absolutely necessary!
And just to be sure you have the Amazon ASIN B0088I9AX4 is that right (w/ easy access tot he S-Pen)?

The strap thing goes around the top of the tablet by the camera to prevent it flopping open... I never use the extra strap, haven't had any issues.

It also looks like you could incline it once more letting it rest on that hook, is that right?
So far you're convincing me..!
One more question: I'm also seeing this case http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Samsung-Galaxy-Tablet-Black/dp/B007SA0Q1S/ which I thought was the same as yours - I don't think it is, right? Does the one that you have let you fold the flap over like that? Would you have preferred that it did, or does the "tongue" sticking out like I see in your pics bother you at all?
Thanks again for your input!

close but still not the exact model I'm looking for. Purposely chose this case because of even the smallest details like the flap being on the wallet side so that it doesn't slop down and cover the screen when it's tilted and the ID slot having a hole to easily take out the ID and stuff like that thanks though!

Won't it bother you that the flap sticks up, and in the way of the screen while in the watching position. Also, won't it bother you that it's going to be so much quieter with the speakers covered up by such a thick case? Just my thoughts for your consideration before you part with any cash.

I'd rather have the flap stick up as I could just hold it down with anything or even fold it back and hold it down with the case itself. If it's dangling from the top there won't be a way to hold the flap back.
Why would I ever use the speaker with the case covered up If I wanted to watch a video or something the case would be open anyways
