Okay guys.. - One (M7) Accessories

I've been reading a lot of reviews, but I value the opinions of my fellow xda members a lot more than those of strangers on amazon
I just got a cheapo screen cover for my phone, and I'm a little disappointed.. This sucker is an unbelievable fingerprint magnet. And not only does it catch a lot of prints, bit you actually almost need soap and water to get them off. Additionally, it really doesn't have the smooth feel than the naked glass did. My fingers seem to catch and snag way more than they should.
I've looked at the sprigen glass.t and glass.tr and there seems to be a lot of negative feedback regarding their sizing and how well the corners stay down, especially for their high price.
So does anyone know of a nice, high quality screen cover that feels good to the touch and doesn't look like a toddler has been running his candy covered fingers over it after 30 minutes if use?

If installed correctly the glas.tr works perfect.
I had it on my phone for a couple months. Loved the feel, feels just like the phones screen. No fingerprints. I dropped it somehow and the screen protector cracked but the phone was fine.
SPG does 1 year warranty replacements on them. $18.

Do you have the glass.tr from sgp?
If so do the software buttons work on custom roms, like CM and GE? Because HTC just updated their stock os to make them work.

I don't have the Spigen tempered glass protector, but I do have MIME's version. MIME and Spigen both report requiring software version 1.29.709.12 or better. Every current Sense and Google Edition-based rom should work fine, as they're built on much more recent versions than that. Not 100% sure about the AOSP-based roms, but I suspect they're fine too. I've personally used TrickDroid and the GE version of ARHD with no issues with the buttons.

I got the mime glass screen cover and it's perfect
Capacitive buttons work flawlessly. You have to have your firmware updated to the 4.2 version, can't remember the actual version number for it.. That firmware contains an update to the button drivers which fix the unresponsiveness with glass covers. What rom you're using won't matter, as roms don't influence firmware.

[Q] Screen protectors

Hi all,
Is it suitable to use a screen protector (e.g. Brando) with the Wildfire?
I'm wondering whether it reduces the touch screen's sensitivity, reflection , ...
What are you using?
I've got a Brando screen protector for my HTC Touch Cruise (3 years now) and I'm pretty happy about it. The protector looks pretty scratched and greasy but when I peak under it, the phone seems perfectly clear.
So what are your opinions? Thanks
I have a Zagg Invisible Shield on mine ant it`s great. The sensibility is only slightly reduced, you don`t even feel it`s there. But that depends on the type of protector you`re going to use. Mine does not interfere with the viewing angles ot luminosity/contrast. If you want to see more pictures check my blog.
My wildfire is a pretty rugged phone, i dont think it really needs screen protector. On the other hand, my htc desire wouldn't last a month without the ZAGG invisible shield, or is it maybe the desire costed me double?
I think the Zagg is good in application mine had no bubbles the next day but using Swype is a really drag ! literally too rubbery I'm afraid
Any suggestion on a good protector that works well with Swype ? I'm in UK

Ok Alex will see how I go ,only had the Zagg protector on for a couple or three days
Mine took about 10 days in order to smooth out. As long as you installed it properly, you should be fine.
I've heard good things about this Brando one which has a matte finish so no greasy finger prints or reflections. I'm thinking of getting one if I can find it for sale in £GBP
http://hemorrdroids.net had a review of one on their Youtube channel.
Try phantom skinz, can't even tell its there, and I use swype! Little expensive, worth out through!

Can somebody please recommend me some good screen protectors from ebay (by posting the correct link)? I found many of them and I don't want to buy some bad ones...
i dnt think the screen protectors affect too much. mine came with my case all for $12, which is considered cheap in NZ. n it works pretty good
whatever you do don't get privacy screen protectors, the ones i tried were just a mirror finish, they look ridiculous, screwed up colours on screen, made it impossible to see anything outside, and made my sensors play up( my soft keys wouldn't light up). i'm like kevin just using cheap ones off ebay and they are fine.

SGP Ultra Nano Screen protector REVIEW

If you ve followed my videos theres one common factor. MY screen is always dirty, scratched and bubbled. Yes I suck at installing screen protectors lol

Nice review. I'm enjoying mine after a week and a half. Weird question: do you notice that the screen protector seems to shift around slightly? Sometimes mine is perfectly centered, then when I look at it later it's very clearly too far to one side? And eventually it shifts to the other side or re-centers itself. Either my finger swipes are causing it to slide around or I'm hallucinating!
I just installed this today. Very easy install went on perfect first time. Just have to get used to my fingers not sliding across the screen as well. It's super clear tho can't even really tell it's there unless you are looking for it. Nice sp.

Feels just like that glass to me. I think you'll see the initial resistance wears off quickly.
If mine didn't scratch so easily, this would be a great product.

The initial friction you feel goes away and it feels and looks smooth as glass.. I've had mine on for a week and a half now, these things are great. Also, to the guy who said it is sliding around, either you did not install it correctly or you are REALLY putting some pressure into your swipes (even then I don't see these things moving). I have used Steinheill protectors for years, once they are down, they do not move! You are hallucinating.
I just put one on my GS3. Have to admit, its awesome once on. I've had to double check multiple times to make sure its actually there.
Getting it to separate from the back and front covers it ships with was a challenge. I ended up wasting one of the three in the package, but got a good install on my second attempt. Paired mind with a diztronic tpu case. So far no issues -- let's see how it fares long-term.
Does this screen protector have cut outs for the sensors and the camera or is it one solid piece?

It doesn't cover from edge to edge but covers the usable portion of the screen. Tbh u can't even really tell it's there and if u have a case it covers the edge of the screen protector (at least with my case it does).

S III Durability

Hi folks
I'm considering getting the S III but am not sure about the screen durability as i've heard a lot of mixed reviews. How durable is it? Looking at some break tests on youtube suggests that the screen is a lot more sensitive as compared to other phone. Is that true?
btw, what is a good case for this device ?
Thanks!

I dunno if this counts, but I keep dropping mine and the only damage so far is a little scratching on the corner of the outer plastic bezel when I dropped it once pretty hard on some rough tar. I haven't seen any other blemishes on the case, and so far no scratching at all on the glass. I loved my Nexus One, but the glass on that scratched pretty easy just sitting in my pocket. Not so with the SIII, no scratches at all on the glass in the 3 mo I've had the phone.
I don't have a case for it.
Bigger the screen... The easier its going to break. Simple.

The gorilla glass on this phone is garbage. ive never dropped a phone and a couple of weeks ago i slid it into my pocket and my pocket was broken. It fell like 2 inches from the ground on to pavement and wrecked the display and the bezel is all dinged up. gonna fix the display and get rid of it

Similar experience...phone dropped from my pocket while sitting, landed on the corner, cracked screen...probably hit the weak spot on the phone, regardless, shouldn't break that easily IMO..
It is not durable at all compared to my previous phones (gs2, hd2) if you drop it there will be serious cosmetic damage. The plastic is extremely soft.

Get an Otter Box, you pay that much for a phone then spend an extra 50 bucks to keep it safe.
Get a case if your gonna pick up the GS3... its a beautiful phone but you need to make sure you can protect it... I dropped my phone 4 times since I got it and thank God I bought a case for it. If I didn't have one, then my screen would have been shattered already

yea that's why i'm hesitant in buying it (3 actually). The issue seems widespread and if it is a case of bigger screen then it is a serious design flaw or maybe a manufacturing flaw. At this point im probably going to put off buying this phone but let's see if things change

I just bought the generic case from T-Mobile store... its grey. I mean its okay. It gets the job done but I'm looking to get the seidio case with kickstand. I just found that on the top left hand corner of my phone, I have a tiny dent on the side... its irritating the hell outta me but I only see it when I take the case off... guess it could be worse...

I feel like the S II was way more durable. But that's why I bought insurance for this phone. Never had insurance on any other device. And the fact that I have an extended battery and there really aren't any good cases for extended batteries made me get the insurance.

It's a phone and it uses glass, it doesn't matter what phone it is if your looking at Youtube and their hitting it with a hammer or dragging a razor over the screen then it's gonna do as expected. It's almost comical that people do these tests considering you spend money on the phone you should be responsible for it and take care of it. Accidents happen and the carriers know this so instead take care of your property, it doesn't matter who made it or what some moron with a hammer says.
all that is fine but generally speaking one does expect some level of durability for a device that costs upwards of $700 dollars, specially if the company is touting the latest and greatest gorilla glass 2 as one of the main features of the phone. Cellphones break when dropped, everyone should know that. But the amount of complaints i've come across regarding the S III and the different ways the screen is getting damaged is quite abnormal to say the least.
Anyway, i'm still debating whether i should pass on this phone or go for it. Anything new coming up in the coming weeks?

You never hear the whole story either when people give these reviews, "I had it in my pocket and the screen cracked" turns into I was drunk and fell down the stairs.
I still have all of my devices in perfect shape and it all comes down to how well someone takes care of their things. If your gonna carry the phone in your pocket with your car keys then its gonna happen, I see it all the time and like you said at $700.00 you should act like it's worth it. You want an honest opinion on the device? It's worth every penny but the one thing that would make me warm and fuzzy about it is if HTC built the body. It still feels solid but theres nothing like a well built frame like you would find on the One S or X. No other device comes close to the functionality and multitasking that this one does and I own 8 myself (different devices not all cells.)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
yup the One X is really nice too. Too bad t-mobile doesn't carry it.
I'm going to call t-mobile again and see if i could get a better deal on the S iii's than what they offered me ($179 per phone)

privacy screen protectors despised ? Poll!

Takin a poll on screen protector preferences for the note 2 ,and mainly how the privacys are nice but jack up the screen quality, if not for the pesky cross lines that angle across lcd they would be ok, Seems yeda is a popular brand that presents this .... They come with a 3 year warranty; don't bubble up over time. Easy to install and will not peel off. More info on our website Hagzinc. Also available on Amazon and Sears.

I agree. I am not a fan. I like the flip cover the Note 2 for protecting the screen while in my pocket. My wife on the other hand, puts a screen protector on her phones the minute they come out of the box. She normally gets a lot more for her phones when she sells them but oh well.
I can't go with out some form of screen protector mine has already saved a ton of scratches off mine. But the privacy ones jack things up to much .

Yeah, I think we might be the few. I'm super careful and also put the phone in my pocket facing me (always make sure nothing else in there). Seems to do a great job of keeping all the smudges off. ( I dont have much to begin with but) I seriously can't imagine putting anything on the beautiful screen. But I think for a lot of people who don't pay much attention to these kind of stuff, maybe the protection is worth it. Certainly beats scratches.
I just bought the new glass version from sphein 'sp' i got on a discount from 36 something and paid 21. Its not a film, its 9h hardened glass. Its the best money I have ever spent on screen protection. It really feels like going bareback.
One of the biggest plus's is you wont see single finger print, no sumges, no glare like bareback. The edges are rounded unlike my buddies glass version. His was the first I had ever felt and had to have one. I just didn't know my version had the rounded edges which makes a great deal of "feel" difference and doesn't snag in you pocket like his does. I would say if you can afford it then its atleast worth trying.

Fancy pants Note ||
I don't know how people can get by dedicating a pocket just to a phone.
What about a pen and pad, smokes and lighter, gun and ammo, keys, wallet, sunglasses, knife, not to mention charging cable and adapter...and those are just basic never-leave-home without it essentials?
I love privacy protectors but haven't found one for the note 2 yet. I frequently have to report on people next to or near me and they should not be seeing what I am writing, that is between them and hr, not them and I.
I also need to make adjustments to cad drawings supplied by clients which they should not be privy to, as they are internal company documents at that point. If the client is standing right there, how else to manage that?
Frequently I have to use my MyTouch 4G Slide phone for these things since it still has a privacy protector on it.

Spen won't work on any I've tried and I've spent hundreds on different brands. They're all crap for this phone. I've had it almost a year no screen protector and zero scratches. So no more wasted cash

Glass screen protector that works with the ultrasonic scanner

Cuz I know a lot of you won't want to just use the pre-installed film protectors. Whitestone has a compatible solution that many people already use for older edge displays.
Proof that it works along with video tutorial
Whitestone's website
Amazon listing
btw, be prepared to drop $50.
And ... 2 weeks to get one

I ordered from Amazon and received the next day
Ordered mine through Amazon sun, judt recieved my double pack today
Are these any good? Like do u lose any sensitivity at all?
Its suppose to be the same as having no screen protector because of the liquid glue they use in between the glass of your phone and the glass protector. No actual testing since I wont have my phone until mon
I can confirm it is working, Withestone Dome screen protector, fingerprint reader works as it should, it was a bit tricky at first but then after few hours it is much better and is getting better with every minute. I guess the glues is curing and allows better recognition? I do not know but i can tell you it is getting better with every unlock.
swagonman - you do not loose any sensitivity, i have been using Whitestone since Galaxy S8 and it has always been excellent. they are expensive but well worth it, and you have lifetime warranty as far as i am aware from Whitestone directly. (As long as you have a proof of purchase from a retailer).
Just ordered mine. My concern, based on cost, is having a case that will pop the edges or corners. The case you have in your photo looks like it works well. May I ask what brand or style that is?
I have a ringke clear case, a spigen tough armor and I have another ringke on order.

Yeah sure, i have OLIXAR Carbon Fiber Case :

There is plenty of space between the case and the glass so should not be a problem with lifting,
I applied the Whitestone and my fingerprint scanner became very bad. I ended up having to remove it. Going to give it once more chance just to make sure it wasn't because I installed it poorly. It looked like a perfect install to me (no air bubbles or anything), but the fingerprint scanning became barely usable even 24 hours after applying it.

I'm assuming you rescanned your print after curing?

Yes, I actually did a complete rescan at least 4 times and added two entries for my right thumb and two entries for my left thumb. Again, possible that the install was bad, but didn't see any signs of issues.

Can't think of the guy's name on YouTube (soft spoken Asian guy who does tech reviews) but he was able to remove and reinstall the same glass. It looked really great.

I have received my phone today, first thing i did is to install whitestone. Then phone on and set up. Initially phone was saying put morepressure or something like that when scanning my thumb. Then it got better and better after few hours. Don't know it might just me getting used to it but i think it works much better now. I have x2 thumbs and x2 additional fingers done and all are working well.
I tried again with he second screen protector and it seems to be working much better. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't let the liquid sit long enough before the first curing process. Glad it is working now though.
lol i'm a dumbass installed the screen protector while forgetting there was the film one preinstalled lol so fingerprint doesn't work.. need to request a replacement
