S3 without screen protection??? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Had one of those cheapo glare reducing screen protectors. Got tired of degraded display. I've got nothing on it now. Looks amazing. Anyone else using the S3 this way??? Thoughts???

I HATE screen protectors. I used my HTC evo, and shared with my 3 and 4 yr olds for 2.5 years and only used a screen protector for 1 month. I ended up after those 2.5 yrs with only a couple very very minor scratches.
Decided to keep rolling naked cause if I'm paying so damn much for this phone I want it to feel like it should.

I am going naked too.
Insurance is a wonderful idea.

Glare-reducing screem protectors tend to do that, whereas a regular clear one will not. If you put a screen protector on very well you cannot tell its there without looking for the edges and cutouts and I find the only difference is sometimes they attract fingerprints a bit more... but that tradeoff is well worth it when 3 years later you can pull off the protector and have a literally like new screen.

I used to worry incessantly about scratches or dings. Then the cases started getting larger and larger and I'd have a phone that was twice as thick as the day I unboxed it. I've since gone "naked" on my SIII and it's holding up beautifully. The screen is clear and unblemished and it's nice to have a phone that will slip into any pocket without catching or bulging. :good:

Best screen protectors I've ever used came from spigen SGP ... Here is one for the S3. They are pretty damn close to the original glass in both smoothness and oleophobic-ness, and are pretty easy to put on to boot.

I used it for a little bit this way. Loved the feel. But I noticed some people complaining about the fingerprints were showing more and more and some glide was lost. The problems appears to be that the oleophobic coating wore down. Decided to go back to utilizing a screen protector...about the same time lifeproof released the nuud and fre for the s3. Decided to go with the fre. I have tried multiple screen protectors before: zagg, spigen, even cheapos, and none can match the feel for the real thing. They come close bu just don't cut it.

Haven't had one since day one with this phone. No damage in over a year. I'll never use one again.

i have no idea how the naked glass feels like Lol, always have a ismooth film protecting it.

I love mine without the screen protector.. But I still use it.. Not for protection porpoises.. That's silly because of the gorilla glass.. I use it for the touch.. The matt touch is amazing and I hardly notice it..

I'm not a big fan of screen protectors... I use the Samsung Flip Cover and it works good enough.

I´m not a fan of screen protector too! I use as the only protection for my galaxy s3 an FitBag
and i can say it´s an really nice thing

someone took my screen protector off so I said oh what the heck can happen, it has gorilla glass, and after 1 month the screen got scratched so I had to put another protector on to hide the scratches.. .. . ..

Me personally i love the protection of a screen protector, i cant stand scratchs on my screen... So i double the protection screen protector , plus otter box defender case which has a built in screen protector

Is it nessessory to get a screen protector for SGS3

Is it nessessory for me to get a screen protector for my new SGS3?
I heavily rely on the sensitive feel on the screen, and i just don't want to sacrifice its original beauty. i heard the screen on galaxy s3 use gorilla glass, need no protector any more, but i still worry to see scratches.
How about u guys? will u buy a screen protector?
I have a zagg screen cover (regular, not full body) but didn't care for it too much. It was put on perfectly (or as perfect as it could get) and I felt like it did dull the screen colors down a bit
I recently took it off when my Diztronic case came in and now just carry a micro fiber cloth with me. If the phone goes in my pocket I can slid that right over the screen
So I'd say no screen protector. If you have an extra micro fiber cloth around I would just use that

If you don't get one, you will be Nesses-Sorry (Title spelling joke. Oh, I am so original)
In all seriousness, no, it's not. The glass is pretty tough, it may get a few little scratches, maybe one or 2 big ones over the life of the phone. BUT if you're OCD about keeping the glass pristine, you want one, because gorilla glass is not invincible.
I got one for the future resale value bonus of "No Scratches", and as long as you get a smooth dry application screen protector, you won't notice a degradation of the feel of the surface of the phone.

agreed! I accidentally used a Starbucks napkin to clean the screen from my greasy hands and fukin regret it dearly. My screen got three pretty long noticeable scratches (visible only when the screen is off and in the light) bothers me knowing that it's there and how stupid of me to have used a recycle napkin made with "at least 40% post-consumer fiber".

Though everyone has an opinion I think that its a must. Don't be fooled by Gorilla Glass it is not scratch proof. I baby my electronics and had never scratched a screen on any device I had owned. Then I look at my Galaxy Note and there are 2 scratches from NO-WHERE. Just poof no drop no bump...
So to be cautious I will always have one now.
I had a package of cheap screen protectors from 2007.. probably not even made for touch phones! But they fit so we installed them. The touchscreen works great and the screen looks fine. I can hardly tell it's there.
I know it'd drive me crazy if I got a scratch on my phone and had to look at for the next 2 years I'd definitely recommend buying a screen protector! I'm sure anything being sold today is better than what we've got installed So hopefully you won't even notice it and can protect your screen
I ALWAYS get one. If it makes it feel cheap, you probably got a cheap and/or crappy screen protector.
I like Martin Fields and have used Seidio ones as well. ZAGG (I think it is) you can get a Best Buy and other places SUCK. They have a sticky or rather rubber feel to them so your fingers don't glide smoothly and probably are what give people the "cheap" feel. The first two I mentioned feel identical to the glass. You won't even know they're there. I get a new phone once a year and never had more than a scratch or two on the protector only. Peel it off ... brand new phone still.
I figure it also helps against breakage since there is an extra layer of protection reinforcing the structure. Kind of like laminated glass. A friend got a giant gouge in his RAZR. GIANT wound to the screen protector, but it didn't make it through to the glass surface. No cracks or even scratches ... to the glass.
I stopped investing in them. My iPhone 4 was without for a year and no scratches. The protectors had scratches but they aren't as durable as the screen

What the hell are those napkins made of? Dear lord.
Definitely get a screen protector. Get a dry install screen protector that is clear and I guarantee that you won't notice it. I recommend SGP Nano Clear for this phone. It is very easy to install and works very well with cases. The only drawback is that it leaves about 1 mm or so uncovered around the edges, but fortunately this will be covered by most cases.
If you are wondering about getting a screen protector, then get one. You may regret it otherwise.

I got the Steinhill Ultra Crystal. It's a fingerprint magnet, but so it the rest of the phone, feels just like the glass though.
Yes get a screen protector. I highly recommend that you get one. Gorilla glass 2 is not scratch proof. I already scratched my screen and my HTC evo 4g lte screen. :-(
Why would you not get a screen protector for this phone? This is not a cheap phone so do yourself a favor and get you a good screen protector. You touch the screen whenever you use the phone and everytime you touch it, you risk scratching it due to dirt being on your hands. Protect your investment!
Normally I purchase wet application protectors from bestskinsever.com but wet application protectors do not play well with tpu cases for this phone.
I recommend the Reearth dry screen protector. You can find it on Amazon for 11.99 and it includes 2 protectors. It's an awesome protector and you won't even know it's on your phone.

Yet another scratch! What's generally considered the best screen protector?

This phone apparently has the most fragile screen of any phone I've ever used, and I've already gotten two deep scratches on it just from being in my pocket alone. I'm usually a huge fan of keeping the phone naked, but this is unacceptable. I'm willing to spend at least $20-$30 for a very good screen protector that will stay in place. What's the consensus?

That question will get you tons of differing opinions. Here's mine, lol.
The Skinomi is really good. I've had them on tons of phones throughout the years and I think they've gotten better. Never had them discolor. My first ones had some orange peel but the one I just installed on my S3 is REALLY nice. No peel. I'm very pleased.
Best part is it's $3 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084F4HY8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
For 3 bucks, you can't go wrong in trying. If you dont like get the more pricey options. Doubt you will.

It's almost as if Samsung used a subpar glass on some models. My wife ended up with a good scratch on her screen after a few days, and we have no clue where it came from, she had been super careful with it and never had anything else in the pocket with it. I am currently using a Zagg HD screen protector (honestly cannot tell any difference compared to their old protectors). I have considered trying out one of the glass protectors as I love the feel of the naked screen, the Zagg has the typical silicone screen protector feel to it, but I deal with it because I want my screen protected.
well the only scatch i have its a dot on my home key.
and plastic border,
so unless u put ur pants with a bunch of pointy nails , or sand. it shouldnt scratch that easily
I too have a zagg hd on now and do not like it. Seems to peel up on the sides a few times a week. So are the glass ones good to go? I had read some reviews......I believe it was droid-life that said that there were dots or grids in the finished product?

I bought a Skinomi when Amazon had it on sale for $0.99, and I can't recommend it.
CONS:
1) It's an annoying wet-application that takes a few days to dry, and for all major bubbles & imperfections to go away
2) Even after it dries, a few splotchy imperfections & minor orange peel will remain, but it's not visible with the screen on.
3) It feels RUBBERY. Compared to SGP's smooth ultra crystal, skinomi is just tacky as hell.
4) It peels up at the edges over time, especially with TPU cases, but not so much with hybrid cases.
5) Fairly thick: the home button is flush
PROS:
1) It's cheap-ish
2) It's nearly full-coverage
I guess the thing I hated most about it was the tacky friction feeling as I swiped my fingers, but after it built up a layer of grease, it got better (and after you cleaned it with microfiber, went back to tacky-as-hell). Just wasn't smooth-as-glass enough for my tastes, compared to SGP.
I'm currently using the new-version SGP Ultra Crystal... and my single gripe with it is that I know it's not supposed to be full-coverage, but, it could've been made a little wider. As-is, it's almost exactly as wide as the black part of the display, so you feel the edge sometimes.

Will Screen Protector cover up some scratches

Hi all,
Pretty sad at the moment, just found 2 scratches on my s3(one vertically around the middle, and one horizontally around the bottom) that are pretty noticeable in daylight.
In the dark it is minor but still there. It sucks because I cant remember any instance where I could have gotten a scratch and I've had the phone for only 5 days. Do you think a screen protector will help hide these scratches in any way? I'm not totally destructed over this I just came to realization that this screen is not as durable as I initially thought it was. I just really need to protect over these next 2 years until my contract is up. I ordered a armor suit for the phone btw.
Also, if any suggestions please feel free to throw them my way
Thanks for any comments or help!
Invisishield will do the job and hide most scratches. Everyone phone I get the first stop I make is at the mall to get an Invisishield put on it. They are guaranteed for life of phone.

i bought an iphone iwth a ghost armor protector over the entire phone after i bought i i get a iphone 4 case for it when it was an iphone 4s a bit bigger and it peeled off the plastic "armor" and to my surprise there was a **** load of scratches i got ripped but i learned ghost armor does a hell of a job hiding scratches
if you dont want the entire phone done get the invisishild ones they do a great job as well.

Hopefully the screen protector I bought off amazon will cover up the scratches for the most part, if it does that I will be more than satisfied.

Do I need a screen protector?

No you don't need a screen protector, they do nothing other than getting scratch, smudge and decrease the clarity of your screen. Another problem is the touch feeling of touching the glass.
For any discussion about scratches >> IT DOES NOT HAPPENS !!!
The Gorilla glass 2 on the galaxy s3 is probably the best glass in the market, doesn't scratch or easily breaks. Though the problem is the frame which scratch on drop.
I used my galaxy s3 for 3 weeks, got my screen protector on for the first 4 days and just took it off, it's just degrading my phone. I current own an iphone 4, new ipad, iphone 4s and i know they all scratches at some point, but not this galaxy s3.

This. I was scared of not using protection with this expensive phone (even though I had a Droid X for over two years without a single scratch).
I bought a Zagg HD and thought it was great....for the first couple of days. Then I realized I hate the feeling, scratched easier than normal glass! and turned a weird yellow color after a month. So I recently ditched it.
WOW, almost forgot how much more beautiful this screen is naked!

There have been a lot of videos with people using razor blades and forks to try and scratch the screen and it looks really awesome. I have had Gorilla Glass screens in the past that had the same things done to them and somehow they got scratched when I used them. I don't know how it happens (maybe diamond wielding gremlins sneak into my pockets and do their evil deed when I am not looking), but it happens.
I am a 'better safe than sorry' kind of guy. I know that if I got a scratch on my screen it would bug me until I bought a new phone so I am putting on a screen protector. I have tried the Zagg on other phones (and on my iPad) and I hate the feel of it. To be honest, I have found that the cheap screen protectors work very well and are quite clear. If/when they scratch.... Put on another one and it looks new again. At around a buck each it's no big deal.
Actually... My HTC Sensation and my Samsung - whatever the first Galaxy was on Tmobile - still have the original cheap screen protectors on them so one dollar protected them for as long as I used them.
Put me down for "use a screen protector" (but not an expensive one).
I had my phone for about a week without a screen protector and it looked gorgeous. Not a single scratch. I had a Motorola Photon before for 8 months and it also has gorilla glass. I can tell you, the glass does stand well, but it showed some small scratches after that long (and I'm not rough).
After my first week owning the phone, I had it in my pocket while sitting down and it slipped out onto the tile below. Screen shattered. I don't have insurance so I had to spend $200 for my own screen to replace it. It sucked.
A screen protector seems like a useless product, and the good ones (invisible ones) are expensive, but trust me, its a lot cheaper than a new screen. Also invest in a good case. My bezel has a scuff from the fall.
Ive never used a screen protector, and luckily I haven't scratched my screen either. Have been using N7000 since first week it was released in Sweden. Have only dropped it twice, once from pocket height on concrete floor, once from nightstand table.. both times face down of course, haha. Except from that I'm careful with my Note, only put it in a pocket where there is nothing else, and face up when I leave it on for example a table. I've never seen a screen protector I would like to use myself, so I'm careful with my phone instead and if I scratch the screen I guess I'll have to replace it or buy a Note 2. But rather that than having screen protector on in my opinion

Hey guy, I've have a screen protector on my phone since day 1 but recently I took it off and my screen so much more beautiful without it. Is anyone using this phone without a protector? Is it resistant against scratch? Is there a type that's not noticeable at all?

Hi, guy doesn't it feel better without a rubber on? Same thing you take a risk but it feels better. :highfive:
I'd have to say use a screen protector. It's the first thing I purchase when getting a new handset
Sony Ericsson P800, numerous XDA variants, a HD2 and now my S3 all have them, and as yet all my screens are immaculate
If you've got a $35 handset then treat it like one, if you've got a $500 handset then at least respect it a little
I even have accidental protection with no deductible through best buy and still have a case and protector lol

Id say if you have insurance on the phone, then I wouldnt use one. I had the similar scenario as you; had a screen protector for ~1 month and removed it and realized how beautiful the screen was, haha.

type of plastic used?

does anybody know what kind of plastic Samsung uses on the stock/default screen protector? I have looked at about 8 or 9 different so called "screen protectors" and they all have that "rubbery" or soft plastic feeling to them. the original one has the "galaxy note 2" logo and web address at the bottom and it is annoying but I like the way the original feels. so smoooooth.........
I rode my galaxy s epic 4g bareback for over two years all the way from froyo to jellybean. would be nice to find a screen protector that is smooth.
maybe I just have high hopes but I am hoping for the best. thanks in advance for anyone that helps or attempts to help.

Agree with you on the rubbery feel to most protectors, e.g. Invisishield, Phantom Skinz, etc. If you want one like the protector that comes on the phone then check out http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...note-2-screen-protector-steinheil-series.html. I have had their protectors on my GS2 and GS3 and will not use anything else, good protection with the feel of glass. Be advised that it takes a few days or so for the shield to 'loosen' up. At first it feels kind of 'sticky' but I think that's due to the manufacturing process but after some use(I presume after it gets some oils from your skin on it), it feels just like glass. Best protector IMO and I'm not alone in that opinion.
thanks. so what sub-choice would you recommend? ultra crystal, ultra fine, ultra oleophobic, or ultra optics? and does it have the same feel as the default screen protector that comes with the phone? sorry if I sound a little picky but I have spent well over $200 in screen protectors trying to get that "smooth" feel.
I really wish someone knew what type of plastic was used for the default screen protectors. when I called Samsung they were like "uuhhhh, I don't know".
Also, would be interested in figuring this out...I heard the Zagg protectors suck with device (along with all other wet application protectors). Anyone with a Spigen care to comment?

In my experience the cheap ones from ebay are the best. They are smooth and if it peels up (which I've never had happen in 2 years) or you don't get it on perfect, you probably got 5 for $5 anyway so it is not a big deal.

Here's what I use, and can't even tell there's anything there, and it doesn't effect the span functionality at all. I'm still on the first one. I bought a spigen ultra clear while waiting for these because I thought the shipper was was drop shipping the from china but they need up getting to me the next day which was like 6 days total I think. Needless to say I'll be selling the spigen when I get it.

I have a Spigen ultra clear as I did on my EVO LTE. The screen protector is really easy to apply with no wet application necessary. They look crystal clear, you cant even tell its there, and the only thing is that you have to wipe off fingerprints every now and again, which is the case with any screen protector. The screen protector feels great to the touch and does not affect the S-pen or sensors in any way that I can tell. I must warn that the screen protector does cover the whole screen but not necessarily the whole glass surface as there is probably a millimeter or two left uncovered on each side. It really is not noticeable or any thing to worry about. In my opinion, this screen protector is far superior to the cheap ones, which in themselves aren't too bad.
I recently sold my EVO LTE and the guy was shocked that there was a screen protector on the phone as he could not tell. He commented later that he didn't even know that they sold screen protectors that you could not see....lol....
threestripebrand, that looks almost like the default protector without the note 2 logo. is it sort of a harder smooth plastic? not like the rubbery feel ultra soft/flexible ones? because if so i'll order as soon as I get confirmation from you.
