[Q] Is there is a ROM or kernel (or ROM/kernel combo) with FULL USB Audio Support? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm a relatively new owner of a T-Mobile Note 2. Love the Jedi Master ROM. But I'm still facing my ridiculously frustrating scenario where I have this phone (and a tablet, the Nexus 10), that I want to use my USB DACs with (Fiio E07k and Hifimediy Sabre), but can't unless I use the awful USB Audio Recorder Pro App. I just want to plug in these DACs (via OTG) into either of these devices and enjoy music without having to use that aforementioned app.
Anyone know (for certain, i.e. through personal experience) of a current kernel and/or rom (or rom/kernel combo) that provides FULL USB Audio support for the T-Mobile Note 2? If not "for certain,," how about just from rumors?
Thanks!!

+1

I'd like this option also, but in the meantime, have you tried viper, with the correct IRS file for your headphones of choice.
It's a pretty good alternative to an outboard dac

How big is the USB drive your using? I use Perseus kernel to read/play music/movies off of my 64gb flashkey

The issue is not using a USB drive, it's USB Audio, i.e. T-Mobile Note 2 >> USB OTG >> Fiio E07k USB DAC >> Audiophile quality headphones, and not using the USB Audio Recorder Pro App to get that setup to work but rather using that setup and listening to music or whatever through any app. Android phones since 4.0 are capable of this, but I think something in the kernel has to be enabled.
Timur on Rootzwiki did just that for the original Nexus 7, but nobody has stepped up to the plate to do it for many other devices, such as T-Mobile Note 2 (unless I'm mistaken) and Nexus 10. For either of these devices, I'd pay for someone to customize a kernel to allow this.

Ashade said:
I got that working as you mention in my previous N7100 but now in my new SGH-T889 it doesn't work in my current kernel. Running Tweaked with SaberKernel. I was running Perseus before. I'm gonna try that one and stock and report back.

None of the kernel worked. I think the only model getting usb audio is N7100. I'm have a look around to see what's out there. I'm as well interested.

After more testing, it turns out the problem was the cable. My SGH-T889 works awesomely with my Fiio E07K, in Tweaked ROM with Saber kernel. Not intermediary apps, ask the sound is redirected to the DAC no matter the so you are using. Hope this helps.
And when you don't have the Fiio, Voodoo sound plus DPS manager does the trick as well. I love this phone.

Yeah, I was just going to say my iBasso D12 works fine on my TMO note 2 lol

Ashade's suggestion of Tweaked + Sabrekernel did not work (I tried it today. Even tried tweaked by itself and with some other kernels). Thanks for the suggestion though.
But this works, it's that Pac-Man Rom that combines features from a bunch of different roms.

A few weeks ago I got my Nexus 10 to have full USB audio support using a modified CM 10.2 rom. I think the CM guys did something to fix the USB audio issue and I think that's why the rom I am linking here works (so I would suspect CM 10.2 alone would work too, but I don't know that for sure), but man oh man it's awesome to have full USB audio support from my T-Mobile Note 2!

That's weird... I'm still running that. What DAC are you using? It works perfectly with both my Fiio E07K and O2+ODAC combo.

So I didn't update Saber in a while and I noticed they drop voodoo sound by boeffla and some other changes. Maybe that's why it didn't work for you. I'm gonna recheck it with the current version and report back.

Tried it right now with the latest versions of everything and it works flawlessly. No problem whatsoever. It's pretty weird that we are getting different results...

Fiio E07k, but I saw a few of your posts on Head Fi where others said it didn't work for them. What's really funny is that while I ran tweaked + saber for a minutes, one time I put on Google Music and got audio out of my Fiio E07k. I was ecstatic and then tried it again, nothing. Very weird but the rom I linked works perfectly, and is CM 10.2 based, just like the ROM I put on my Nexus 10 Tablet, which also works perfectly now.

Good to know you got it work with something else at least.

Vodoo Control (headphone amp )

Hello All
I always used this app on my samsung galaxy s ! this is the best headphone amplifier !
1 week ago i bought my new samsung galaxy note and soled out my galaxy s !
after installing this app it says that this device does not support extended sound controls !
how can i get this app working ? Any ideas ?
Thankss
You cannot, the device is not supported
Go get "voodoo louder": works perfectly and by buying it (it's very cheap) you can support one of the most brilliant developers here.

Is that true? I believed you need just root. I have VOODOO LOUDER installed on a stock but rooted KKA kernel but I haven't checked it yet.
most of the stock kernels are supported
there is another app named Voodoo louder,
not sure if they are the same

just bought voodoo louder knowing that voodoo control plus doesn't work on galaxy note. before the purchase in android market there are steps to determine if your kernel is supported, in my case i am on XXLA3 rooted with CWM, all are in green hence i was able to purchase, only €1. i can't live with my note having experienced voodoo control plus with my galaxy s.
if only these worked with blue-tooth wireless headsets :-(
Sorry for the noob question, but does voodoo
Louder works only for head phone or speakers as well?

it should work as long as a jack is connected, it doesn't recognize whether it is an external speaker or headphone.

Interesting app, i was really disappointed with the audio output of the note. This should be interesting.
It gives a +10.5dB increase, which is perceived as a doubling of loudness, so if you were disappointed with the loudness of the headphone output before you shouldn't be now. I absolutely require this app to drive my HE-400's (and I guess will need it for my incoming LCD-2's).
I got no market issue when purchase other app. Really want to try this, please advise.

[Q] MHL-HDMI Output

Hi guys
I want to use my t989 as SNES/PSX console with HDMI output+PS3 controller, or just use my TV for see my series, videos and photos without DLNA of connect it via USB cable. It's a feature I want
A friend of mine borrow me a MHL-HDMI cable (I ordered mine already) and I tried with stock and other ROM's, I have output once with CM10.1 but can't have it anymore and according to docs and IRC chat that functionality is undocumented and will never work. Only touchwiz based ROM's have TV-OUT, do you know which ones support that? Is there any chance to get this for CM or others?
Thanks in advance
---EDIT 2013-03-02
List of ROM's supporting MHL-HDMI
- Slimbean 4.1
- Liquid smooth rc9 (according to thread pointed out by nreaction)

I thought, I would never say this but at least try and use the search function, all i typed was "mhl" search in general section. Here is the thread your looking for though. I can confirm it works for cm10, but haven't tested with cm10.1.

In my experience with the MHL adapter it will drain your batter to basically nothing while using it even though it is plugged into a power source. When you get done playing you're going to have to charge your phone back up .

There is an app that will turn your phone screen off but keep your MHL connection live and then your battery problems are solved. I just can't for the life of me remember the name of it. I have used it and it works great though.
Well I just ordered one so if you think of the name of the app please let me know. Thanks

Ethernet adapter

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of any way to hook up a Ethernet adapter to the note ( either 10.1 or note 3)
And before you point out that one could connect to portable mini wifi routers , my job involves a lot of testing of TCP points and there for it would be nice to be able to test it via a tablet or similar instead of lobbing around a laptop next to everything else
I used to have the Asus transformer prime and there it worked fine, but I've seen some issues with samsung units
Anyone?

40 is a bit steep to just experiment.
The only adapters that are going to work out of the box are the ones currently supported by Samsung Android 3.4 kernel and ones specifically made for this device. (Ones that work with GS4 and other Flagship models may work) You may have to write a few scripts to redirect traffic over usb0 (or whatever device name it comes up as)
http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Giga...679&sr=8-2&keywords=pluggable+gigabit+adapter
I currently have a version of this. In order to connect it to the Note I would have to have the following setup:
Hardware:
Powered MicroUSB OTG Cable - USB Ethernet Adapter - Network
Software:
Grab source for the chipset of the ethernet adapter (ARM compatible)
Build kernel modules against samsung source kernel
Flash new kernel modules or flash new kernel
This is of course assuming we get the proper ct-toolchain and all that.

Straight from plugable website :
Android and Linux
Android versions 4.0 and later have driver built-in to builds from Google- although individual Android device manufacturers sometimes disable this support. Whether driver is left enabled is left up to each device maker. For example, we’ve found that all ASUS Android tablets (TF200, TF300, TF700, etc) tested to date have support for the driver, however none of the Samsung (Note, Note2, Tab, Tab2) devices we’ve tested had driver support. Advanced users running rooted devices or custom ROMS like Cyanogen mod aren’t supported by Plugable, however may be able to obtain community support from sites like XDA developers.
Drivers built into Linux kernel 2.6.35 and higher.
Source code for advanced users familiar with compiling and installing drivers using kernel 2.6.14-2.6.34 and early 3.0/4.0 kernel versions is available at the download link below:
AX88772 Linux driver 4.11 source code
For older Linux kernels 2.6.9-2.6.13, instead use:
AX88772 Linux driver 1.2.2 source code

[Q] USB DAC support

I recently purchased a USB DAC/amplifier combo to use with my high end IEMs on the go, as well as my sennheiser HD650s at home. They sound/work great with my nexus 7 (cyanogen mod 4.3) with just the stock kernel (faux's kernel works also)
However, i cannot find a kernel for my trust old Gnex (gonna use as a mobile digital audio soruce, the amp dac/amp is tiiiiiinnny but the tablet is so big its just not portable, and my Moto X doesnt support USB audio and has no custom kernels, for the first time I am wishing i had gotten an s4 as even the stock kernel supports USB audio.
So far i have tried: Faux123,
Franco.Kernel,
Glados 2.3 (downgraded to 4.2.2 just to try, and even after loading the modules, nothing..)
and finally stock CM.
None of these even came close to seeming it was registering at the least, much less delivering auditory bliss.
If i need to compile my own kernel and just add in USB audio support, I would love to learn,
ideally though, I would just love to find a kernel that meets my need, rather than having to create one.
Thanks in advance,
J.P.
First off, HD650s rock. Nice choice. Also what DAC/amp?
Anyways.
I somehow recall something about how the kernel version the GNex is on (as opposed to the 3.4 kernels a Nexus 7 totes) does not have any USB audio support. I might be wrong.
Android just rarely caters to the audiophiles, sadly.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I add my question!
Me too try to use my Gnex with the Fiio E18, an USB DAC/AMP that seems to work with many Android device.
When I try to connect the DAC, it seems to be recognized (a red led becomes pink, wich means that the DAC is "connected" somehow), but no sound comes out.
So the question is: the problem is software or is also from the Gnex hardware?
On a thread on head-fi, James (a Fiio employee) says that is a hardware limitation...
But I know that the Gnex can work with pendrive and an OTG cable (I've got mine and it works!), so on the hardware side is this not enough?
And new Android KK 4.4: how it is regarding USB Audio?

+1 on viper audio. flash and use some nice IRQ .
ViPER4Android is working great for me but unfortunately only with stock Google music player. The effects are very nice but maximum volume is still very lacking even with +6.0dB Gain compared to my iPhone 4 which has far better audio quality and way higher volume.
Faux Sound, perhaps, if you are rooted, with a rom that supports it.
Beats+xlouder! 4.4
I currently use Misledz BEATS+XLOUDER! 4.4 and a pair of beats Mixr's and the sound is amazing! I have tried Viper and it was also very good I just am a long time BEATS+XLOUDER! 4.4 user. I picked up my beats for $50 on ebay and while a lot of people don't care for them the mixr's are amazing. You can also pick up a pair of Audio Technica ath-M-50's used on ebay for the same price or about a $100 brand new great headphones. Read some reviews you won't be disappointed.

No still on 4.4 I didn't see anything significant in 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 to upgrade not to mention the fact that half my apps didn't work with the updates. I usually wait a little while to let everyone catch up. You are right though I should have mentioned it only works on 4.4. Does Viper work on 4.4.2? Best thing to do is try all of them out there is also Cyanogenmod DSP manager. Just know anything you try on XDA is a step up and the hard work of individuals and teams who make our devices great.
