[Q] Regarding "[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195)" new Rootkit v2
Hi,
since there is the "you must be bigger than 10 posts to submit here" barrier in the original "[RECOVERY][ROOT] Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195)" thread, I have to ask it here:
Arco updated the thread with a new rootkit version, that replaces some of the utilities. So can I now just flash that, although I used the version before?
Is there an easy to understand guide for all of this, that explains what can/should be updated when?
Like answers to the questions:
1. I rooted my device, can I just root it again with newer versions?
Not yet done, but probably coming soon:
2. I added a custom ROM, what do I need to do to go back to a backup of an old one?
3. I added a custom ROM, can I just flash a new version?
Sorry for asking this, but every time I flashed something (e.g. router, old phone) it would pretty much erase anything that was there before. So no problem with newer versions. Reading the instructions here always make me feel like it is a thing of putting together bits and pieces and if one is wrong you might brick it?!
Greetings
Chris

That was the purpose for the FAQ I posted earlier.
Regardless, your answer to 1 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44172232
#2 and #3, will have to wait for @arco68 to answer

Sorry for bumping or using a random topic, but I as well couldn't post on the original development thread because of the 10 post restriction. Sorry if I make a dumb question or anything, I'm quite desperate and have been reading tons of info and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem:
1) I installed Cyanogenmod 10.1 following their instructions, CWM was involved in there.
2) I tried rooting the gt-i9195L (the L stands for latin), I didn't do anything with Odin, only CWM and the samsung galaxy s4 mini rootkit v2, but I think I bricked my phone. After reboot, it just shows a black screen, button lights go on and off, and sometimes it shows a brown screen. Is there a way to undo this or any solution you consider appropriate for this?
Again, sorry for going off-topic in here, thanks in advance!

Black screen is probably because the kernel is not compatible with your device. Use S4Mini_RootKit_v1.zip instead for rooting. To fix the boot issue, you would either need to download stock rom from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash with Odin. Or get a copy of the boot partition from someone else with that device, and flash it in recovery.

I installed v1 as you suggested. There was no stock ROM for Mexico, but I tried Puerto Rico (which worked without problems) and then reinstalled CM10.1 without factory reset/wipe data. Everything was on place, and phone is now rooted Thanks a bunch!

Sounds like this is a very similar problem to something someone else posted in the last few days. Take a look through the last couple of days posts in this forum and see if you can see it. The general suggestion if i remember right was to use ODIN to fix.

Read before you install, chain fire 3d does not work with jellybean 4.1.
I think the description in the play store also said enough
Amazes me why people dont read ?
It clrearly says not for jelly bean
You need to find your desired stock rom and flash it via odin. Only solution
Why do you install things which aren't supported?
It's the first thing people should do when installing unconfirmed stuff.
Chainfire 3D isn't supported for JB.
What you need to do now is go into DOWNLOAD mode, and flash your stock ROM via Odin, if you want official.
thanks all its my mistake am new , and i said sorry for my note lmao , well now i need to search for good custom room
i download nandroid and platinum backup and i backup my apps&system wz data got .gz files i think on my sd-card and got nandroid backup on my sd-card (nandroid back up like 4 files) one of them .md5 and its 1kb others .tar 500mb and 700mb cach and system and est i think didnt remember they are on my sd-card is that help me by odin ? because i cant open my device any way my only solution by odin mode but is there any file in my back up files can help ? forget i tried to restore my device by nandroid.md5 and odin closed not response , dont say iam lucky new in android world understand nothing for now
You don't need to flash custom ROM, bro. If you want official rom, just go to sammobile.com, find the firmware of your country and flash it through odin. There, you have official stock ROM again.
Also your English is extremely hard to understand. Try to use commas and full-stops.

[Q] Samsung galaxy SIII hard bricked will not boot but ODIN can recognize it

Samsung galaxy SIII hard bricked will not boot no power, but ODIN 1.85 can recognize it, (not the new Odins), when I try to re-flash it with Odin I get stuck at setupConnection..
any help? can I use the small USB mod
If you don't mind me asking, how you brick your phone?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
i have the same problem i used the Odin3 v1.85 and installed CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 zip but it failed. so then i tried to reboot it and said firmware update encountered an issue and something else. then i looked up how to unbrick and the post said to downloaded the zip CF-Insecure-SGS3_XX_NEE_ALE8-v1.2 and used Odin to install now i got nothing but a black screen buy it will go into download mode and Odin read it
You're not hard bricked if Odin can read your phone. Reboot your computer then reconnect and flash a stock rom to be safe.

If I'm not wrong ODIN uses TAR files and not ZIP files. Try unziping and see if there is a TAR file if there is then thats what you have to use in ODIN.

Do you get a message when you plug it into your computer? Does the red LED turn on? Editing the scripts is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing!

I'm not saying that was the problem or that you did it wrong, but maybe the ROM was forced to flash and was truly not compatible or was corrupt, bricks are highly likely to occur in this case

The roms I have downloaded are supposed to be for Sprint s3 I was running stock JB 4.3 if that makes any difference, any help on what to do know, thinking of trying the unbrick mmc card trick .... idk what else to do... thanks : ) and something went wrong somewhere for sure... lol I also found out my exact model number if that helps. SPH-L710MBBSPR again thanks for you responses..
Ok, a few things I noticed....
1. You are using a very old version of Odin. I recommend only using 3.07 or 3.09.
2. The COM port box is yellow, which probably was trying to caution you about something.
3. You have a Sprint model S3. This is the T-Mobile S3 forum.
4. You have a Sprint S3, but were trying to flash old T999 firmware! This simply will not work, and if it were to flash, insta-brick!
What you need to do is start using the Sprint forums. Only flash items you find in those forums, and nothing else. While some of our roms might flash and boot on yours, they will never function very well. This is one of the things the asserts in an updater script are intended to protect against.
Finally, just a bit of posting advice. Please use proper punctuation. Small mistakes are ok, but posting with no punctuation at all just makes it difficult for people to read, and many will just close the thread and move to the next without bothering to help.

Oops! Just realized the pic in the op wasn't yours! But still, theyre all good points you should check before flashing. Also make sure kies is uninstalled or disabled on your computer.
But most importantly, you need to be in the Sprint forums. We can help a bit here, but you need to ONLY use stuff from your devices forum. And a lot of it we simply may not be familiar with.
Good luck!

Thank you.. I knew I was in the wrong forum and that is why I said my s3 was a Sprint device... My problem however was the same exact problem. I got it fixed with file from another forum, while follow info from yet another forum, the file that worked for me was HomefixSprint_S3_L710.img the debrick_sph_l710.img would not work for me. I used win32diskimager and burned .img file to class 10 32gb card, stuck it in went in to download mode and used odin to write firmware file... Anyway back up any running.. I didn't download any t-mobile roms or anything that wasn't for the Sprint S3, what I did do was try and load an older JB rom that was under V4.3, it wasn't that long ago when a person could flash any android version one wished, it looks like Samsung is getting as bad as Apple you can move up but not back. Any tips on how to safely downgrade? Anyway thanks for taking the time to respond. : ) Cause no one has in the Sprint S3 forum yet.

No, Samsung is not turning into apple, there is a reason you cannot downgrade from a Knox bootloader. And to downgrade, with this device we can just flash an older ROM and it will work, maybe its different with the Sprint variant? Try to search in their forums if you haven't already

Need help with ATT note 2

Hi, I recently got ATT note 2. I tried to root it and did the CF root from chainware and also tried galaxynote2root.com root. both didnt work, well it gave me root but I cant install a recoveery. I flashed it multiple times like 10 I think because my binary coutner says 10. idk what to do.Can someone help. plz post links if i need to download something. I do have all the drivers and stuff. its just that no recovery. im running 4.1.2 jelly bean
Not in any way am I trying to be rude or condescending. ...but
You need to stop and read the steps again. ...before you accidentally do damage to the device partitions or worse. ..
Custom recovery images are pushed to the device via Odin when the stock recovery still exists. ...and if done incorrectly. ..you can brick the device.
Please explain the method you are using to attempt the recovery flash. .and we can help correct the problem.
But by all means. ..don't attempt another flash of recovery until the problem is found.
Recovery is essential to do exactly as the term states. ..."recovery"...and without it. ..you will be in trouble with no way back but JTAG service.
Read and read again the recovery steps. ..and go slow here...

well first i downloaded the galaxynote2root zip file from the website. it gave the odin and a file to flash. then I put phone in download mode and flashed. successfully got root. I think its because I have the latest software. 4.1.2 everyone got root in 4.1.1 and the old one doesnt work anymore. what did u use to root.? I did all the steps exactly what max did. and he got root like that and installed cwm. i followed video and blog post. this is the video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFHZ535L7is
Is it better to use the toolkit that to use this method? toolkit users have had less problems.
ALSO NOW ITS DOWNLOADING SOME UPDATES WHEN I CONNECT TO WIFI. im already rooted so does that mean im going to brick if i update so im not even using the phone now plzz someone help me
thanks for reply
FIRST thing you need ro do is check and make sure you have a recovery.
Imo the number one reason noobs break there phones is with out realizing it they borked their recovery and try to root , flash a custom rom, OR take an ota.
No recovery = no ota or any other flashing.
Check you recovery by:
Power off> press vol up, menu, and home.
This is done all at once. As soon as you see the text appear in the top right corrner release. It takes a bit of practice but its not a biggie.
Now.. do you see recovery or are you in a boot loop?
If you have a boot loop while trying to get into recovery...it means u no have recovery!!!
Secondly Stop flashing root!!
Lol pick a single root method that has been verified to work by others. And stick to it.
Its sooo important to read.
In fact with some phones one variant of root wont work if you have an update and hence a different android version.
So you need to read.
If you have recovery click factory restore.
You can do this from the os or.. I prefer going into recovery and hitting factory restore. iTS THE SAME.
If you have a boot loop while trying to get into recoveru
Click my signature in web view.
Go do the kies efr thing as I explain it my tut. Get your phone back to a nice clean start.
Kies efr IS THE FASTEST AND SAFEST way for newbs to get back to stock.
Newbs should NOT be using odin unless they are 100% sure they know what they are doing and are comfortable doing so. My efr tutorial in my sig will teach you how to use KIES EFR (Emergency Firmware Recovery)
I prefer to send people the gn2 toolkit.
Its easy and also has plenty of options.
Just remember to uninstall kies first.
There are numerous ways to root.
Pick one. Lol.

Freakboy hit it on the head...
I won't try to add more into the responses, as this will just confuse the issue more...
Follow his lead, and his advice.....g
ok thanks a lot, i flashed twrp recovery now running jellybam rom, i was wondering if it supports transparent status bar? not just in one app in all of them.
The answer to that question is found in the respective thread for the rom you are using. .
Check there first. ...
General searches also yield great results. ...g
im going to switch to pac man rom soon, bc xda banned jellybam for not giving credits i think. anyway whats a good kernel to use? now im using the one that came with jellybam. im guessing u experminented a lot and give me some suggestions. i dont wanna overclock just looking for smooth performance.
For pac.....
Use the preloaded kernel ..
It is optimized for the build and you can get support ...
If you change kernels ...you may not get support ...g

[Q] Failed Sprint Note 2 Root Stuck in Loop, Dev not answering

I attempted a root on Samsung Note 2 Sprint version (in white). Followed all steps, however phone got stuck in a reboot loop right after I put the option 2 (root only) Odin step in. Sprint ver LPH889 (I believe that is what Odin is calling it, option 72). Toolkit used was ADB 4.1.0.
Original symptoms were that the Android updater was looping trying to load everything; being new I made it worse and tried recoveries and reloads which also failed. Now it boots, goes to splash, circling blue oval image and...it stays there.
Good news: I have access to download mode and recovery reset mode (including sideloading).
Bad news: every thread I've followed has given me an issue.
I have recovery access but I need some idea of where to go from here and searches have shown near but not exact symptoms. I have unplugged it from the pc, removed the battery, done a factory reset, attempted to reflash via Odin (root) attempted to reflash stock via Odin and so far I am still stuck in a reboot loop. Windows detects the phone but shows a problem in device manager because possibly it won't stop rebooting. Any help you can provide is appreciated and if at all possible I need to recover some form of working phone here, and soon. My girl needs it for work and Sprint's network in my area barely works from day to day (which they admit but don't credit my account for). This phone has problems sending/receiving calls, they claim it's fine, and I was forced to try a root to get some form of working device. That failed too.
I'm a newb at this...it's been years since I flashed a phone (Razor v3), so...any help would be appreciated, otherwise I have to crawl to sprint/samsung and get it replaced, which I don't want to do. Thanks.

I thought it would to but I did not want to dig through 70+ pages of the thread when searching failed...unless I really needed to. Most of it is old and doesn't apply.
I was directed by the referenced Youtube vid. I used the options referenced for the phone in this thread with that toolkit. I backed up existing files (not as one unit, but internal files and I think OS), went for the option 2, followed the instructions and things went great through odin...until android went to update and started looping with the 'updating files' percentages. At that point I tried to restore to basic and started clearing caches and such and that is how I got to where I am.
When that failed I started looking at the leaked stock flash and that failed on shoot.ini which that guy never addressed because he thought his international version was all versions (that's why I choose 'doesitwork?' as screen name ). So i'm down to sideloading or something. I really need guidance, and I emailed the toolkit author but I'm still waiting on a reply.
Any thoughts?

When used the toolkit a year ago, I found that I had to turned off all firewalls and antivirus apps for it to work properly. Once I did that it worked fine....give it a shot...can't hurt......might even be able to repair what you've done so far.....Good Luck!!!
I'll give this my best shot...download a rooted rom from the development section and place it on your SD card.
Download toolkit from here (I take no credit for this) http://d-h.st/iu0
Put phone in download mode.
Open ODIN and uncheck "auto reboot". Then click "PDA" and add the .tar file (recovery).
Plug phone into PC (make sure to have samsung drivers installed).
Once ODIN sees the phone you can click "start".
When the recovery flash is complete, pull your battery to ensure power down.
Boot into recovery : volume up, home, power all at the same time.
Flash rooted rom.
Toolkit is an extra and unnecessary step.

Grab the one click flavor of choice. Use the one with 1090526 in the name as that's the full version.
Open in windows, put phone in download mode and flash. Easy Peasy.
Let me know if you have any issues with this.
Sorry for the late reply, I had some issues with the "catchpa".
The one click fix worked like a charm, thank you! I will soon be making a contrib to the site. It's a shame I couldn't root as easily  .
I know the level of work that goes into this stuff and the desire to keep on top of new gear while maintaining support for the old and I appreciate the community coming to my aid, so again, thank you!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 > Galaxy Tab 3 General > Root the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and Install Custom Recovery =>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525630
You may find there that you download "TWRP_T31x_r3.tar"
A "*.tar" type of recovery can be use by Odin, but it is more common to see a "*.tar.md5" The difference is that the one with "*.tar.md5" is more safe to use because it has a MD5 hash that is use by Odin to certify that the file is not corrupt before installing it.
If you follow the tread you are ask to:
Code:
1. Extract Odin307.zip to a folder on your desktop.
2. Copy TWRP_T31x_r3.tar to the extracted Odin307 folder.
So it tell you just to place "TWRP_T31x_r3.tar" in the same folder where you Extracted Odin. Yes the "TWRP_T31x_r3.tar" intact. No extraction needed.
Clearly you misunderstood and did in fact extracted "TWRP_T31x_r3.tar". And yes in fact you found your self a "recovery.img".
Using Odin is a Very Dangerous thing you can screw you device if you do something wromg. My best sugetion is for you to read more.
Now in the same general forum you may find:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 > Galaxy Tab 3 General > [VIDEOS] Galaxy Tab 3 7in How to root, recovery, roms, & Kitkat =>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459817
Yes this tread is not for you device, but it can give you a good Idea. In particular see: "TWRP INSTALL PLUS ROOT"
I have not seen that video nor I have a TAB3 7" nor 8" mine is 10". But I bet it pretty similar process. I do not know what the video shows but you could take my advice . DO NOT mark "Re-Partition" you will brick your device. In Options I suggest you let mark ONLY "F.Reset Time". As you see NO "Auto Reboot" neither. This will prevent you device from booting after it finish. So when are you going to know it as finished. Well you will see in Odin say "Recovery" while installing and after it finish it will change to a Blue "Reset". It is at this time that your are going to press [Power]+[Volume Up]+[Menu]. And TWTP will show in your screen.
Good Luck. DO not forget to READ.

Listen @meffie you record shows you are an old user 2009, but This is your 1rst Post!!! So I have no Idea what knowledge you really have.
So you could be playing st2p1d for us. Or you in fact need a lot to read. So read, read a little more and if you have more time read what left.
First I do not understand why you are saying "My Tab is saying no OS in TWRP so I'm trying to recover it"!!!
I am juts going to clarify a few things.

No indeed I haven't posted. I just try and read. As I'm not heavily into rooting and moding, I have little to say, as such I don't feel the need to post.
I am legit in my question, and maybe I just need to be a little clearer.
I rooted the tab and have had it rooted for a while now. When I originally rooted it, I didn't realize I would've ever be able to update it again, so after the new kitkat updates came out and I couldn't update it, I decided I would unroot it and go back to stock.
That being said, like an idiot, instead of reading about unrooting first, I went into TWRP and wiped it, thinking that would restore the device. After I wiped it, it booted back into TWRP and now says "No OS installed".
I of course came back to the forum and started reading the recovery thread, although you did answer my question. I did not realize Odin reads the tar, instead of the imagine inside, so that's where my confusion came from. Now that I know I just need to give Odin the tar I will proceed and hope the I can get my tab restored. If I can't return to stock, hopefully I can just reflash a new rom. I'd hate to think my actions bricked it.
That being said, I appreciate you answering my question and not just assuming I'm trolling because I don't post.
I'll let you know how it goes, thanks!
So I was able to load the TWRP recovery through Odin, reboot back into TWRP and it is still telling me no OS installed. I'm not quite sure where to go from here. All the threads Im finding are about rooting and recovering, nothing really says anything about No OS installed. Any additional help would be appreciated.
I have included a screen cap for reference.
Thanks
When you wiped everything you deleted the OS. You will need to download a ROM or flash a stock through ODIN
Sent from my ATRIX HD using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks for the Picture, I never seen that before.
*bmatney is right, the safe way to proceed is to "download a ROM or flash a stock through ODIN". This will require to download the 1.5G Stock Recovery. Listen I strongly suggest to download the Old 4.2.2 Stock Not the KK-4.4.2 one! The new one comes with new bootloaders.
*Not many people agree with me, but this bootloaders could be dangerous. Or ask the few Samsung SG4 users that got Stock with Lock booloaders!! Beware, make your own decision.
*Now I never seen this "No OS installed". My best guess is that TWRP should still allow you to place a copy of your old "Rom.zip" (the one you where using and should have available) inside the external sdcard and install zip from external sdcard. Do not forget to wipe cache and dalvik before installing.
*This is important, the original problem "after the new kitkat updates came out and I couldn't update it". I bet you you are a P5210 Wifi owner, And you had previously install old TWRP that all of us used. The problem is that that TWRP was build to be use in a P5200-3G model. So when in Recovery the Tab think it is a P5200 and do not allow you to install a P5210 Rom!!! The solution is to install new version from :
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 > Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Android Development > [Recovery] Philz Adv CWM 6.55.0 - CWM 6.0.5.0 - TWRP v2.7.1.0 - AROMAFM GT-P5210 => http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ockworkmod-recovery-6-0-5-0-gt-p5210-t2830871
But please do that Recovery change after you have repair and have a valid OS. Do not put you self in a position where you have no OS and no Recovery!! First install a Rom.
Good Luck
I got the stock 4.4.2 flashed, it's working again. Thanks so much for the help guys, I greatly appreciate it.
