[Q] Stock recovery question - Tab 3 8.0 - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to exchange my Tab 3 8.0 as mine has a bright spot on the screen. Unrooting was super easy, but now I need to get back to stock recovery. I currently have TWRP recovery. I did find the appropriate firmwares available at http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-T310, although I need assistance with which one to download. I don't see a U.S. version, which country would be appropriate? From what I've found via searching is that I can flash the firmware via Odin and this will restore it all.
I'm guessing there isn't an "easy" button in TWRP to restore to stock recovery? (I know, I know, but I had to ask!!!)
Thank you for any assistance with this!! I am hoping to exchange this tomorrow morning.

[Q] Can I flash a stock firmware for a different region other than my original stock

First, thank you guys. Just bought a note 8 WiFi version GT-5110. It is a good device, loved it. I've been researching and reading all over the posts about rooting, install custom rom, firmware and etc... I guess the first thing to do is to root my note 8. So, before I root my device I want to know for sure I can return back to original unmodified stock. I found that I can use ODIN to flush official firmware. However, I checked samMobile for the firmware for my country which is Canada. But I couldn't find. I used toolkit to check my note 8 firmware. It is N5110XXBMC9 and the region is XAC. It is the oldest. Hate it, we are so close to the us but always treated differently, and very thing is more expensive.
Question:
1 Can I just flash US region firmware? Since I have the WiFi, it has nothing to do with the phone and carrier. Or, can someone tried to flush a different region firmware tell me what is the outcome.
2 If I flash an US firmware, will I still able to claim warranty in Canada(just in case).
3 Will Flushing firmware with ODIN increase flush count, even I flush with official stock?
4 Last question, after rooting, will note 8 achieve floating multiwindow like note 10. Or, we are still limited to have to window side by side, but with rooting, we can put more apps to choose.
I know you guys are busy, if anyone can help me or point a useful post for me I would be really appreciated.

I would also like to know the answer to this question as I have a New Zealand international model but the rom is old. Can I flash the UK version which is the most uptodate. (I have the wifi version).
Thanks
I decided to give it a try myself.
I flashed the latest BTU N5110XXBMF2 which worked a treat. I checked and this is what is displayed
Custom Binary Download = No
Current Binary = Samsung Official
System Status = Official
So it worked fine for me.

Hello. I am also having this issue, with a GT-N5110 from canada. May I ask the steps in which you flashed the firmware? Did you do it via Odin?

I just downloaded the firmware and used Odin. It didn't wipe the sdcard it just updated the apps. Its worked well ever since.
I have since updated to N5110XXCMK1 using the same method.
Regards
Colin
Thanks. I used the same method to flash 4.2.2 on my device. I am also now on xxcmk1.

flash counter
Hi guys! I was looking to know about this. And I got a few question:
1. I want to make sure about the flash counter. If I change to XXCMK1 my rom, the flash counter goes to 1, or would be like the note 8.0 came with that stock room (nothing change in the counter)?
2. It is a little off of the main question but I will ask anyway: have you tried to add icloud email to the native email manager in the XXCMK1 rom? (Asking just in case you did it, since I read that rom is the one that doesnt have problem to set up in the native email manager?
Thank you guys (literally). I will appreciate your answers.

1. My flash counter did not change when I flashed 4.2.2 using Odin.
But it did when I used auto cf root afterwards to root the phone.
2. Nope I haven't tried.

I had an issue where I (think) I soft-bricked my device, as I could not get it to boot up, it would get stuck on the "samsung" logo and then display a black screen and go no further. My device is Canadian as well, and was running stock Canadian firmware, but I had rooted it before hand and was attempting to flash firmware from another country.
Well, I ended up downloading the US firmware for 4.2.2 from another thread here on XDA and flashed that in a last attempt to fix it, and it worked! But now I'm running US firmware. Since the KitKat update is now available in Canada, I'm downloading that as we speak and am going to flash it when it's done.

[Q] Will Verizon S4 Mini Ever Have Odin Files, Custom Recovery?

I am wondering if I will ever be able to install a custom recovery on my Verizon S4 Mini (SCH-I435). I used Kingo to root, but I don't really want to mess with the phone too much, because if I screw it up, there is no coming back from it. Do we know if anybody is working on extracting the stock Odin image files for this model?
As much as I LOVE the S4 Mini, if this model can't be hacked more than just root, I may return it for the Moto X.
Thanks.

I have all the partitions extracted but have had no luck building a Oden file. Keep getting Fail with oden.
And signature verification errors in recovery.
Tried to build recovery, but its beyond what I know how to do.
I have a Rom ready, just waiting on recovery to test it.
I am fairly new to samsung, been on HTC's for years. Ive soft bricked my first mini, so I know how you feel.
I was ok with the mini til they blocked wifi tether hotspot in the VRUAMK5 update.
I'm willing to do whatever I can to get this device going. If not, gotta move on
It seems like its gonna be a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
the Verizon model i435 can do a recovery to factory through the Verizon upgrade and repair app if you ever need to go back to stock.
Any news/developments on this? I'm really hoping to get CWM recovery installed.
It's hard without having adb during boot or odin to see exactly where what i have is going wrong. thinking around the bootloader method is going to do it but how is my question now cause i keep getting kernel: fail crap from knox i believe
I froze, then deleted all things knox. Here's hoping that doesn't mess my noise up.
Any updates on recovery? Sorry if this bumps a dead thread.
Hate to dig up old threads. but i have been working on some development on this device, mostly putting it on Straighttalk.
I have 2 of the same phones that are both working on Straighttalk and AT&T.
Heres where im at right now:
Rooted.
Android 4.4.2
baseband I435VRUBNE1
BUILD # KOT49H.I435VRUBNE1
SE "ENFORCING"
Now i used THIS THREAD to install a recovery onto the device (3.75 BETA Version)
all i need is someone to develop the recovery for the mini instead of the note 3...
ANY HELP?

Us Cellular Cricket

I couldn't find a US cellular section. I have a Us cellular G s3 that was just rooted no custom rom or anything. I put awrp on it and that it. Its on 4.3, on SUnday I flashed a hacked hotspot file from sprint by mistake. On the stock ROM it get to the last samsung screen then stops. I couldn't figure it out. I put a custom ROM on and it always says roaming and can't do anything. so I dial *228 and it says welcome to Cricket so somehow it thinks its on Cricket. How can i get it back to US cellular? I have tried odin back to stock but no go. anything with a stock ROM it stops at the last samsung screen.

You are indeed at the wrong forum as this forum is for the i747U/M variants only. To try to assist you, however, you appear to have a brick caused by flashing the wrong ROM. Thankfully, it's only a soft brick and not a hard one so recovery should be possible. As you were already on 4.3, you would need to flash a complete 4.3 stock image compatible with your phone model. If my knowledge serves me right, the correct build number should be R530UVXUBMJA. You may go to sammobile.com or androidfilehost.com to search for the full downloadable zip and then flash that via custom recovery which you already have. Odin won't help you, I'm afraid, as 4.3 is not flash-able via Odin and if you are trying Odin, you are probably trying to flash an older bootloader which may just compound the problem. Hope this helps you.

[Q] Flash T210 4.4.2 firmware into T2105?

Hi, i bought a Galaxy Tab 3 7" Disney Edition but i don't care about kids stuffs, is it possible to flash it with latest T210 (ITV) firmware 4.4.2 with Odin?
My model is T2105 (ITV) and is still at 4.1.2
Thanks
It might work. Flash a custom (TWRP) recovery to backup the device first, then give it a try. Only problem is, anything could brick the device since there seems to be little to no info.
Some ideas:
Soe ifo on the recovery:
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/general/root-sm-t210-r-using-heimdall-t2936061
I used the Pit mapping for the T210. The recovery partition is "mmcblk0p10." I checked the partition info on my T210R using Partition Table by Lakshman. The T210R also has its Recovery partition on "mmcblk0p10," so I expect it to work no problem. And TWRP Odin flashables tend to be compatible with several 7.0 variants.

Please be willing to lose functionality of the device if you proceed.
There do seem to be Odin flashables for the 4.1 software, which should be able to recover the device, but I would obtain one of those first.
If you proceed, please keep us updated so that other users out there can find this information

You can try The Nolekat Rom. It is fest Best Customrom for our Tab.
Sooooo.....
Did it work? Im curious as I got the T2105 tab for my kid and the darn thing is really slow for running Spider- Man Unlimited and some other apps
I want to put Cyanogenmod on it or some other rom with less crap
Ive been after the answer to this as well. I have the 2105 myself, and have TWRP installed and root, but not one single custom rom has worked. They just bootloop. Then you have to ODIN the stock rom. I have the original rom from sammobile, but they only have the factory 4.1.2 roms. Im wondering if a stock rom from the 210r or another Tab3 wifi rom would work.
It seems almost every tab3 from around the globe has been updated to 4.4.2 except this one...ive been checking sammobile everyday, but still no update for the 2105...

Flash a recovery with The Kitkat KK extension.

Yes, thats bootloop into recovery.
I prefere CWM or PhilzTouch on all my device.
Right on. Ill give those recoveries a shot. I have used CWM in the past (HTC Aria), but ive been using TWRP since i got the Galaxy Nexus. Ill give them both a try and report back in a few days... My internet connection sucks ass, so it takes hours to download a rom...

Its amazing that everyone is posting when they have question but no one cares to post their findings. I (also an owner of Galaxy Tab3 Kids T2105 bought in Australia) was fed up with the old and slow firmware. So, I decided to go ahead and flash a new firmware (T210XXBNI1 4.4.2 UK upgrade for SM-T210). First I tried to upgrade with Odin 3.9 but the process would fail after "Nand Write Start". Then I tried it with Odin ver. 3.07 and the process went smoothly and now I am a proud owner of Samsung Galaxy Tab3 with 4.4.2 Kitkat. It does feel a little bit swifter than the Jellybean. Anyways, so far so good. Will post if encountered any problem !

thanks for report thethakuri... i tried to do this too, but for me it doesnt work ... after i installed the 4.4.2, i had a black screen on boot and my tablet dont charge offline... so, i turned to 4.1.2... can you give me any sugesttion?
Update from me: Just upgraded my US SM-T2105 Kids tablet to the UK KK version as well (T210XXBOA3_T210BTUBOA2_Home.tar.md5). Did not work with Odin 3.11 but worked with 3.07 as mentioned above.
The Tab3 Kids is so far holding up very well with the 4.4.2 Firmware. Much more responsive.
Only issue I have is that it switches on when charging and the screen is not very responsive afterwards. A reboot fixes that.
I came across a post somewhere that there is a new bootloader required to fix that but I can't find the post anymore . If someone has that link please post it here. Thanks !

Did you ever find a fix for the screen issue? I'm going to give this a shot this weekend my daughter really wants pokemon go on her tablet!
Unfortunately I could not find it anymore.
Using ours now just with the new firmware and make it a conscious effort to switch it off after charging it. So far works fine.

Hi.
Will update to 4.4.2 would enable the move app to sd card?
Thank you.
any solution to remove kids feature
Root the device and uninstall using root uninstaller.

Please identify my SM-T705 build!!!

Hi there,
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE version, which I purchased through Ebay - I believe it came from Asia somewhere as it showed up with an international adapter for the power supply. It was sold as a "Verizon" model - I ditched that sim card and have been using it with Bell Mobility in Canada.
Recently, I tried to update my firmware using the latest version of Samsung Kies and I'm running Windows 10 latest version. For some reason Kies needs to reinstall the USB driver before performing the update to the firmware and this causes Windows 10 to crash without fail. (This is also happening to my Note 3 - Samsung informs me Kies is not compatible with Windows 10 although it seems to work for everything else - just not the update). Kies doesn't seem to care that I already have the latest drivers installed.
I can't update via the tablet because my device has been "modified" - rooted.
Finally I went to Sammobile for the firmware, however I can't find any US firmware for a compatible carrier under SM-T705. I am debating flashing the Bell Canada firmware, but the model is listed as SM-T705W. In case this is not ok and I need to revert to the original, I'm hoping someone can help me identify my build? The samsung agent offered to identify it but once she discovered it was from outside Canada she said she had no information. So much for Samsung International!
Please help! I'm having battery issues and I'm hoping updated firmware will help, plus I would like to have the latest version of Android. Thanks!
If you're in Canada then just flash the Canadian firmware.

Hi there, forgive me for being thick, but how do you tell it's Cellular south, and what do you mean by region XAR? I'm sure that the fellow I bought this unit from flashed US firmware, however I can't find it on the Sammobile site - in fact I can't find any US carrier firmware listed for this model.
As mentioned above, I did find Bell mobility (Canada) firmware listed for the SM-T705W but nothing for the SM-T705.
Further explanation greatly appreciated!

You can flash any firmware for that model, so just flash the Canadian firmware, no point in flashing a us firmware.

Ok great. I would like to locate the US firmware though for future use. I travel alot in the US and in the event I need a different carrier's modem... Are the US carriers listed somewhere else or am I blind? http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/SM-T705/
Thanks!

You have root so install twrp from the development section and do a full back up of your current system.
You can then restore as you please.
Seems no US firmware for the t705.

LOL... ok now I have another problem. I had already downloaded the Bell mobility file from Sammobile and hadn't seen this response - in the meantime I hooked up with Odin and my download failed twice - I don't get it. I just did my Note 3 10 minutes ago without any issues. Rebooted device and odin between both attempts.
Thoughts?
Don't flash anything until you make that full backup with TWRP, trust me it will save a massive headache should you need it.
Download Flashfire from the link below then set your date back to August, run Flashfire then load up the firmware, select the Flash firmware package option.
From the partitions list select system.img and boot.img only.
Under the reboot options select download mode then hit the flash button.
Once it has flashed and booted to download mode you will need to flash a lollipop bootloader (assuming you are flashing lollipop?)
You will find them in the bootloader thread.
After that just reboot the tablet, it will take about ten minutes for it to fully boot.

Uh... ok you lost me early on. I downloaded the file - how do I install it? I remember using the TWRP thing several phones back when I was messing with custom ROMs. I had a problem with recovery and since then have never gone this route - I've been happy with stock rom and root - installed using Odin... sortof the KISS principle.
I can try TWRP, but could you dumb down the instructions a bit - as I mentioned, I'm a bit thick - particularly with some of the terminology! LOL
This is the file I downloaded - yes, Lollipop - I don't understand why I have the Odin Fail - google isn't helping me understand either. I have root, USB debugging is enabled and I followed the same steps as with my Note 3 - the message said write fail.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/52301/T705WVLU2BOE4_T705WOYA2BOE4_BMC/ Is this what you mean by bootloader?
TWRP - flash with odin then boot into twrp using POWER + HOME + VOL UP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...p-2-8-6-1-unofficial-sm-t800-805-807-t3074633

Ok but those "bootloaders" are custom ROMS are they not? And I don't see my device on the TWRP site - I have the LTE version, it only shows Wifi.
Really all I want to install the Bell stock firmware (assuming it is indeed compatible - SM-T705 vs SM-T75W) I linked to from the Sammobile site and then do Chainfire's auto-root.
Why isn't Odin writing the firmware to my device? I've never had this issue before and I don't see what I might have done differently with this device - it's the first time I've tried to update it, but I had no trouble rooting it with the chainfire auto-root.

No they are bootloaders they are required to boot the firmware , roms are the os.
Odin won't flash because certain devices will refuse to flash another regions firmware.
My advice to you is to flash the lollipop bootloader first, to make sure it will flash then flash the firmware with flashfire.
Obviously make the twrp backup first.

Ok I flashed the bootloader, and then I tried to flash the firmware with Odin again but it still won't do it - write fail again. I've never used flashfire - windows 10 won't open it...
UDATE: Ok I read to transfer the file to the download folder on the tablet, and then install on tablet. So I did that, but when I click on the icon it doesn't run. How the heck do I use this to install the firmware update?
Figured out the date bit, ran Flashfire.... problems during the install - got stuck in boot loop - tried a factory reset - that didn't work... stuck in loop. I think I'm bricked....
Left the default settings in place - very little in the way of instructions - read the bit about not trying to write over protected settings...
And got this:
You're not bricked as long as the tablet starts up and you can boot to Download mode.
I've seen that error with corrupt downloads so not sure why you're getting it.
Reboot to download mode. Just hold POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN until the device restarts and boots to download mode.
Doesn't matter if it's boot looping.
Reflash TWRP and restore the backup you made earlier. You will be back to where you started.
At this point I think the best option is to flash a custom lollipop rom.
There is a very good one I use on my t805 which is practically stock with a bit of bloatware removed.
Its in the development section called sweetrom.
At least one positive is that you were able to flash the lollipop bootloader, so upgrade is not impossible.
I'm definitely able to get to download mode - I was surprised that the factory recovery mode didn't work. I'm wondering if the file from sammobile is corrupted - I used the same file with Flashfire - now I think Odin was trying to save me. I'm downloading the same file again fresh, and it looks like Telus and possibly the other Canadian variants are the same - unless it's the same corrupted file.
I just hope the problem isn't because my phone identifies itself as a straight SM-T705. That is why I asked about that point earlier. There are plenty of straight 1705 options available - just don't know which country would be compatible - particularly for the modem.
I didn't understand how to use TWRP and I've had problems with it in the past (recovery) when I did figure out how to use it and was messing with custom ROMS a couple of years ago. I would really like to get myself back in order with a proper stock ROM and root. This tablet belongs in my car and right now I just want it to work properly - I'm using Torque to resolve some ongoing engine issues and it will suck if I have to go back to using the small screen on my Note 3.
If there is any way to figure out which of those countries for the 705 are compatible with Canadian carriers, in case this Bell firmware is defunct, that would be appreciated.
As well, is that bootloader going to cause any problems with stock firmware? I've already flashed it - does stock firmware come with bootloaders included?
OK before I go any further with this I need you to install twrp and make that back up. Twrp is now very stable.
Twrp will back up some very important partitions namely the Efs and modem. Don't take this warning lightly. The amount of people that have soft bricked their device because they didn't do this.
Boot into twrp then simply select the backup option and make sure the partitions on the left are ticked particularly boot,
Efs and modem.
Now as regards which firmware.
I would forget about installing the Canadian firmware.
It looks like this firmware will only install specifically on a Canadian device.
It doesn't really matter which firmware from which region you install as they are pretty much all the same except for the carrier ones which just add more bloat and some csc specific stuff.
Just go for an international rom. You've already flashed a bootloader from one of these roms so that proves you can flash.
Use odin to flash.
If you have connection issues afterwards then all you need do is restore your modem backup with TWRP.
That's why it's important you do this.
Follow these instructions and we will get you up and running.
Whole again!
Whole again!
For the record, I read elsewhere that it is NOT recommended to flash other letter variants of a model. In the meantime I downloaded all four Sammobile Canadian Carrier files and they appear to be the exact same file and all install attempts failed For anyone else with an actual SM-705W I read in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/t705-lollipop-t3099945 a fellow Canadian was having a problem with those same files. Dunno what happened with him in the end, however I tried one more W file I found elsewhere that appeared to be different but it failed as well.
Based on the comments in the above thread, I flashed the Hong Kong variant for the SM-705 from Sammobile - apparently it was the first firmware widely available and users from several countries posted they had used it successfully. So far it seems to be working ok - after flashing it, I did a factory reset on the device as was also recommended in the above thread. Sure hope the battery life will be better than before - love this tablet but I've never seen a device drain so rapidly! CF-Auto Root restored!
As a side note my Ebay seller did reply to my origins query and was helpful once he realized I wasn't complaining about the device and wanting to return it... LOL. Apparently my unit originated in Singapore and arrived with that firmware along with a Verizon SIM which I never tested. As long as the OS is smooth, and the modem compatible, and unless someone advises a better country variant, I guess I'll stick with this one.
Now just need to get Torque reconfigured!
