[Q] USB Storage doesnt work - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, my USB Storage doesn't work anymore however if i put the usb cable into my phone i can still charge my phone via usb port.
So, only the USB Storage function doesnt work. My Phone does nothing when i put the cable into my pc and my pc does nothing as well.
Does someone have an idea?

Did you tried another cable and PC? are you using some USB specific mods ?
Try mass storage from RECOVERY.
if working from CWM then its just SW problem - reflash another ROM / KERNEL

Doesnt work in recovery

Try another cable.

Nope, doesn't work, only charging works with all the cables.
Could it be a problem with the Radio?

No, I wouldn't think so mate.
Might be dirty usb socket, pocket fluff?
Or it could be a damaged socket too.

any help would be much appreacited thanks in advanced
With USB debugging on, plug your phone in and go to Device Manager and under samsung android choose update driver from Windows Update. Let it find all the drivers. You could also try Odin with the battery out.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Try plugging your phone in after its already In download mode... odin never recognizes my phone unless it was in download mode before I plugged it in....
use a different usb cable
i bet you are booting the phone into download mode while being connected to odin. correct? if i'm right, you can't do that. do what flastnotes says
I've tried connecting while already in download mode still nothing tried different cables still nothing I'm lost

Uninstall and Reinstall the drivers.... this phone can be very finiky... sometimes you gotta just uninstall and reinstall drivers and try different cables... its annoying but eventually it will connect.... idk why everyone has problems with odin... never once had a single problem... every phone and cpu is different though... just keep trying, it'll connect eventually...
Alright I just tried a different computer with drivers installed and that computer worked b4 but now nothing I'm thinking its my phone that just don't wanna work right

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers... my cpu before would do that and uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers fixed it 100% of the time...
Where should I download the drivers from because the ones I got don't seem to be working .. I got them from the Samsung website .. is there any other place I can get them from?

If you uninstall the drivers and then just replug your phone in your cpu "should" install them on its own... that's how I did it and it worked for me....
Can you connect to your phone via your computer when your phone is on and you select USB?
If yes, then your phone should not be broken, and it should be a cord/usb port/driver issue
Did you try a different USB port as well?
Also, did you try a different version of Odin?

Yes I did all of that I have Odin 1.85 I think it is on my laptop and Odin 1.61 or whatever it is on my computer downstairs I tried different cables different ports it just won't recognize in download mode ...when the phone is on Odin picks it up is says com 3 and when the phone is off while charging but just not in download mode only once b4 then my laptop got a virus fixed the virus issue and now just not working..

It is definitely a driver issue. Do what was recommended and remove the drivers. Then turn on usb debugging, plug in the phone and let Windows rescan for drivers. Wait until it gets all of them. There are 5 I think.

Try again with a different port. You can also try these if you have a 64 bit computer:

Also try with debugging off.... think I remember my bros phones wouldn't get all the drivers with debugging on but with it off it installed them all... ymmv of course...
would a different rom change anything

Probably not, but couldn't hurt...
Could be a virus issue on your pc...try booting into safe mode without networking and trying the correct procedure...

[Q] USB does't Works IN Turbo K. 3.1 in ICS AOSP Mode

I'm running CM9.1 in the first slot, and all is fine except for the USB not mounting. It works fine in recovery, but it just refuses to recognize my device when the ROM is running.
Then If i change the Boot mode to ICS Stok in the turbo kernel 3.1 the USB works like a charm But the wifi does't works.

Try to make a full repair in boot menu. If this doesn't work then read further.
Try to change USB mode in boot menu. If this doesn't work then read further.
Try to flash ftf, flash kernel and then flash rom. First just flash it (don't restore straight after flashing kernel) and when everything is clean check if USB is working. If it is then it might be an app breaking it.

By the way I get this in my Linux PC via dmesg:
[258260.259056] usb 4-2: can't read configurations, error -22
[258260.372016] usb 4-2: new full-speed USB device number 6 using uhci_hcd

Have you tried to connect it to a windows pc? I think I won't be able to help you anymore. CosmicDan has to take a look on it. Make a logcat and post it in the kernel thread.

Ok, I can't post in the Devolper Forum, I'm a New user , I will wait a little more to have more post and publish in the oficial TurboKernel post.
Have you tried using external applications to connect to your PC?

Or have you tried or considered using Wifi Connectivity applications like AirDroid?

PC Doesn't Recognize USB in Recovery

I'm on Task AOKP with the latest TWRP installed. Whenever I boot into recovery my PC doesn't recognize my phone. I get the USB error sound and the device manager shows SAMSUNG_android_SGH-I747 with a yellow exclamation point and it says the driver isn't installed. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. The phone connects fine and all the drivers are installed properly when the phone is booted.
And you have usb debugging on?

It's on when it's booted. Is there a way to enable/disable while in recovery?

As far as i know it isn't supposed to. You can charge in twrp or you can connect in download mode to flash through Odin but not accesses usb storage.

I used to (on my Captivate) be able to access the internal SD in recovery. I used it to transfer files/completely wipe SD then transfer and install a new ROM.
I've also tried a different USB Cable and tried CWM. The USB is plugged into the back of the computer.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever tried connecting my phone to my pc in recovery so I don't know what to tell you. Mine has only been connected when booted up or in download mode
Out of curiosity i had to try.
Right cable, USB debugging on, correct drivers blah blah... Boot into recovery and nothing.
This isn't the captivate. Unfortunately what does work on one phone doesn't always work on another.

In recovery you need to go to mount and mount usb storage to transfer files to the device. You don't need usb debugging enabled to transfer files. Just mount storage drag a rom over snd flash from recovery, or remove you ext sd and put it in a reader and transfer it that way. Just make sure when you go to flash or restore you choose external storage to find the files
