STAMINA Mode not working properly - Sony Xperia ZL

Hi,
As I remember my STAMINA mode work good in .234 fw.. my Mobile Data connection was disable and resumed when screen on.
But after .244 update.. Stamina mode does not work as before, Apps get stopped when screen is offed, but Mobile data connection is still there.
I have no apps in white-list..
Im bit worried, cause i have enabled mobile data 24x7 in LTE mode, so disabling it when screen is off, will help me on battery..
But i done know whether its the way how Stamina mode works..
If someone can explain me.
Thank you

stamina mode is somethings to enable phone enter into deep sleep mode. But after u turn off the screen and lock, if there got any apps consuming the data in background, so phone cant enter deep sleep.
most probably is Auto-Sync, social messaging apps (Viber, Line, Whatsapp, WeChat, Tango and etc). these will enable the phone always keep awake and using the data.. Stamina mode will only works after screen off for a certain time, will enter into deep sleep. If any apps wake it up, then wont work anymore.
So if u want stamina mode works better, turned off Auto-Sync, Mobile data (if u have a lot of social messaging apps).

Hmm..

But i did a full repair, so all gone. but still its like that.. And no Auto sync as well

I'm same person as you. I'm turned on data, GPS, auto sync all the time.
Normally average I can get 3 hours screen on time with 12-15hours total.
Hope this can be your guide for battery usage life. I didn't active stamina mode due to I need receive email, msg at anytime. If phone lost still can track back.

I have never had much luck with stamina mode, or disabling background processes or whatever and, believe me, I have spent what feels like a total time of 5 weeks of my life on this, as for all of us, trying to get our super smartphones with awesome screens to last more than the waking hours of one day....
Here is a screen shot of my XZL from this morning. (82% battery remaining, 27 hrs of use on battery, screen on time 9% = approx 1.5 hrs in screen diag window I have Auto Sync enabled, and collect emails on regular basis.)
I am using DS Battery saver (pro version but there is a free one to try) and thro custom settings can allow checking for emails at whatever interval I like so, for example, i set DS to wake up (in background, of course) every 20 mins for 2 mins to allow whitelisted email app to check for mails or whatever intervals and apps I want....
SMS and MMS are always instant as are incoming calls (obviously again)
Have this on all my work phones, XZL, GS4, GS3, HTC one etc, and all are now easily able to do two days with what I would call normal usage (3-4 hours screen on per day) emails and calls and the rest all the time
@chuan Hong - why leave GPS on all the time, are you looking at maps all the time? Device locks so fast on GPS why not just turn it on when you need to know where you are or where the phone is? Certain apps will switch it on when signalled to do so remotely...

Thanx al try the app

Srsly man, stop using battery saver apps, that is Not at all required. In fact that app might be interfering with ur stamina mode...
Also, as another person above said that stamina mode requires deep sleep, this aint true(actually, that would defeat the whole purpose of stamina mode). As soon as u turn the screen off, the stamina mode kicks in.
Also, how do u know that stamina mode isnt working? Do u recieve whatsapp notifications after u turn the screen off??
U might wanna check ur stamina mode settings.

Sorry, but I am not stupid enough to run both at the same time! What the battery saver app offers over and above stamina mode is deep sleep so you have missed the point there. For me that is why it saves battery for my usage...
My remarks are intended to offer another possible direction for those who have not succeeded in achieving what they are looking for using stamina mode. For me that is the purpose of this place that we love, xda! Negative comments slagging off others people's posts when they are trying to be helpful are what is rapidly becoming the norm here, and that is very sad...
My remarks are also based on many hours of analysis and research and are, for my usage, bourne out by empirical results!

On a more conciliatory note, sorry if I ranted, you are correct when it comes to the Wi-Fi only tabs and battery usage is worse with an app than with stamina mode. Maybe related to continual switching/seeking of phones looking at 3g, h+, lte in the background which ds obviously removes....

Well friend u r an advanced sort of user... Unlike many others who just download things and complain that their phone isnt working properly... I previously thought that, and u might not believe but there r ppl who use stamina mode and battery saver apps simultaneously.
That's why I said so. I never meant to counter comment u in a negative way. Im sorry if u feel so. I just wanted to convey that battery saver apps r not good for our droids.

oh i turned on gps for all the time because of security.. i've been lost my phone before so cant track it back. now i purchase https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myboyfriendisageek.gotya&hl=en apps and installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
smart lockscreen to prevent people shut off our phone in lockscreen there. Useful. If im lost my phone, i can track the location and take the front photo. I can remote control my phone. So i have to turned on my data, GPS all the time.. dont want lost my expensive phone like that.
recommend u to install these 2 apps too. i know myxperia can track our phone too.. but GotYa! got much better features. MOST IMPORTANT, cant let people turned off our phone 1st. Once off, then can flash rom or anything. GONE.so smart lockscreen protector is important and installed gotya! to catch/track our phone

I think you are wrong. Stamina mode should always work the way that it disables mobile data when the screen is off, regardless of how many apps you have running in ackground. that is the whole point of stamina mode. Mine is also not working. I turned it on this morning at 5 am, and at 6 am the battery dropped 3% and i got a notification that i should turn on stamina mode to save battery. The screen was off for that one hour and the phone wasn't in use

[Q] SetCPU and JuiceDefender, are they needed anymore?

Hello,
Title says it all...
I would notice overnight that my battery would be completely horizontal (no drop) and thought it was the combination of SETCPU and JuiceDefender (night profile + screen off drop mhz).
But, after unisntalling them, I noticed the same "flat line" at night and also achieved over 30 hours of battery life.
My question is... do these apps really make a difference on our phones?
Or, are the phones advanced enough to handle everything just fine?
your thoughts are appreciated.
I agree... I got about 27 hours of life out of my battery without set cpu or JD (i've never liked JD anyway because its like putting my kid on riddlin)

Which version of JD are you using? If you have the Plus or Ultimate version, you can probably still gain some benefit, but you need to learn how to custom configure the settings so that you use the ones that are still relevant. For example:
Where Not Helpful: JD will turn off your GPS if an application isn't using it, but most of today's phones will do that anyway.
Where Helpful:: In advanced settings, you can provide a 'night schedule', wherein during this time, JD will disable mobile data, and thus polling, so your phone will not go out and check for mail, FB messages, Tweets, etc. Otherwise, mobile data is off unless you 'wake' the screen for some reason. Or another feature that 'trains' your wi-fi to only activate when you are at home or a 'recognized' wi-fi spot. These are a couple examples, there are others.
Where it MAY be Helpful: JD can disable mobile data for a custom # of minutes (10/15/30/60) and prevent background sync during those periods. It will awake, allow the sync, then turn mobile data off. Now some apps may only sync in these intervals anyway, but unless they're all syncing at the same time, you could have lots of 'up' time. Some of this may not 'wake' your phone from Deep Sleep, but depending on how sloppy the code is, it might.
Hope this helps.

I think really depends on the ROM you are running. ViperROM has a script that changes the CPU speed and governer on the fly. So no need for SetCPU there. I'd say Juice Defender can still come in handy with turning data off when you aren't using it.
My 2 cents. Your results may vary.

I use ultimate. I did run a night schedule, but that kind of points back to my original observation... I'd have night setup from 11pm - 7am and see a horizontal line for battery during this time (wow JD is really working)... BUT, with it uninstalled, during the same period of time 11pm - 7am my battery was also horizontal line... So did it really do anything? I'm on wifi at my house so when I'm sleeping the phone is wifi and not constantly pinging the mobile network (does that make a diff. being on wifi)?
I also did like the wifi only when home setting.
With ViperRom, I probably don't need set CPU anymore... Maybe i'll throw JD back on.
One question.. were you running the beta JD? I noticed the beta would always throw errors in the log stating i needed to uninstall, reboot, reinstall (I never did) anyone else have that happen?
These numbers sound like you have the radio off and don't turn your display on. Pretty amazing numbers otherwise. Would love to know the rom + kernal you're using
edit: I see the post above you mention viperrom. Typically if you have data turned off and display off any device will last days. My OG evo lasts for around 48 hours just sitting there. Still really impressive if you're using your phone within that 30 hours

I've never tried the beta; I started with standard, upgraded to Premium, then eventually upgraded to Ultimate (I use the 'Customize' setting, but rarely the 'Advanced' config).
I hear ya on the night-time wi-fi thing. But with this particular phone (and before I rooted and changed ROM/Kernel), on some nights I would be connected to wi-fi and get ZERO CPU sleep time, other nights it would sleep - I have no idea why. It is conceivable that if the only polling your doing is e.g., Gmail, that either it doesn't happen at night, or it happens in such a way as to not knock the phone out of sleep (it IS Google's OS after all).
On a related note, I'm using K-9 mail (my primary mail is Yahoo); it throws wake-locks all the time (set to poll every 15 minutes), but they don't seem to impact battery life or take the device out of deep sleep which is why I suggested that case above.
One other item I like about JD is the ability to permission each and every app for wireless/network access; obviously mail, calendar, phone, etc. need it, but some apps simply don't, and I've been surprised when I set it to 'notify' and some random game pops up seeking network access. Looking for an update? who knows, but I lock 'em down anyway.

My display was on for roughly 2 hours (again, just used it as i happened to during the course of the day) and data was on.

Interesting thing is with the latest JD build it has the bluetooth settings, so i can leave my headset paired, but the phone disconnects while not on a call and then when i get a call, it turns on... kinda cool.
In regards to the permissions... do i need to give the email applications permission for enable/screen off? (so that I'll still get the notifs?) or just enable (as in when screen on).
thanks,

[Q] No 3g during night hours, sleep mode?

Dear all,
Is anyone else experiencing the following problem?
When the phone goes to sleep mode during the night hours it wont receive any messages for whatsapp etc. It seems that it turns off the 3g connection when you turn the screen off during the night hours.
Does anyone know a possible fix for this?
I have gone through all the settings and could not find anything about this.
Cheers.
I recently got this on my Desire Z too, and I have not changed any settings on that. Then I noticed it's happening on my One X too..
no 3g late night
Hi there, i have a motorola photon. in the settings menu you can go to what is called battery and data manager. then tap on battery mode. it's default is set to nighttime saver, which will kill your syncing after 15 minutes of inactivity in the hours between 10pm and 5am. i set mine to performance mode. this will sync all of the time and i don't really care if it takes up battery since i am awake and ready to pop in a new battery off my kick a$$ battery dock wall charger!! hope this helps....

I think it's got something to do with what HTC said about "the phone learning" when you check things like mails ect.. so after it has learned that you do not check mail (for instance) during the night it disengages activies... or not
@mykeyvee, there are no such options in the stock rom on this phone.
Anyone have any other ideas?, i want everything to be synced 24 hours a day.

I don't think it's anything to do with settings. My Desire Z is on 2.3.7 and only recently have I got this bug.
My One X is stock unrooted. No settings for power saving.
Accounts and sync>sync schedule>smart sync
Is this what is effecting you

This. I woke up and my 3G wasn't even on. I had to disable and enable data again to get connected.
Same problem here. Whenever my phone is in standby mode for a longer period of time (as far as I've seen it doesn't matter whether it's during the night or day), the data connection (3g) is disconnected.
On my previous phone, a desire Z, there was a setting 'data always on' which addressed this issue. This setting however seems to be missing on all android 4 phones.
**edit:
Contacted Dutch HTC support; they claim it's a feature. Hope they restore the setting in the future..
I have noticed this too this morning.
I woke this morning and went into the battery settings and you can see the graph that all data was shut off over night.
How do we fix this.
Piss. Wondered why it used virtually no battery overnight...
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Exactly same here...just as u switch on the screen....it connects to wifi or 3g instantly...

I have received email overnight though....

I was thinking that maybe it was just the 3g/wifi connection which was going into a sleep mode after a long period of inactivity.
I've tried increasing my mail sync at night to once in 30 minutes to prevent the 3g connection from going to sleep and disconnecting. (had it at once in 4 hours)
Now when i wake up and turn the screen on, the 3g icon is already there, and my mail has been synced last in the previous 30 minutes.
Fixed it?
Same issue here, weird thing is that I can't seem to tie it down to either a specific battery-percentage nor a specific time of the day. It's really annoying though, as I would like my device to be connected 24/7. Tried setting a mail-account for 15 min update, so will see how much wifi/3g has been on tomorrow.
Edit: Definitely not a battery issue, but rather a time issue. Battery is at 80% (used the phone little today) and 3G/wifi has been disconnected for the past 2 hours even when mail is set to check every 15 min. I can see that for many people it's not important at night, but I wish we at least had the option to turn it off :/
Possible Fix
Download this app.. Minimaltext
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext&feature=search_result
Create a widget 1x1, under the tap behavior, select start another activity, then select an activity. Scroll now to settings, expand it, choose power saving setting..
Leave the rest default then press okay.
Click the widget and you will find some settings, including put data connection to sleep when screen is off. I haven't tried it. Hope this helps.
Not a bug!
This is not a bug, but a feature : scheduled standby mode
If on Sense 4.x, settings are similar to Sense 3.5, you should go into settings > power then scroll to standby mode. Default setting is auto, which means that the phone learns your sleeping phases and disable every wirless connections during this time when your screen is off, and enable it again automatically when you wake up (even if your screen is still off).
You can disable this feature, or (my favorite option) manually set the duration when you allow your phone to enter and exit deep standby mode.
(For me it's a great feature, as I really dislike having my phone producing airwaves close by my head when I'm sleeping. Before I went to Sense 3.5 on my DHD, I didn't have this option and had to enable plane mode before sleeping ant enter my PIN code every morning to exit plane mode, which was less convenient).
If you want to disable this, download smartsync disabler from the play store. Im pretty sure there is a thread on xda too with an app available to download.
...Or read my previous post... Market's bloatware is not needed, setting for this should be in power settings, as on Sense 3.5.

[Q] Juice Defender: does it work?

Hi, Ive been reading a lot about battery saving apps that I started to get curious as to whether these apps really work.
I installed JD out of curiosity and I have to say that all it doea is disable automatically your phone connections to help you save power. Things that you can actually do manually. Like turning off wifi and mobile network. If im not mistaken you can disable mobile network under your phone's settings.
So my question is, if you can do it manually, what is the point of apps like juice defender? It eats up ram and runs as a background process which in my opinion does more bad than good to your battery unless your the i dont know how to disable connections manually in my phone kind of guy.
Somebody please enlighten me. Thanks.
I have used it for a long times. Since I used Xperia PLAY.
I think this program is good. Yes, if you can manually do it. But the feature I like the most is Screen. It can change CPU ghz according to your screen on / off.
It saves my battery a lot.
Press THANKS if you agree with me.
I am a long time user of jd but these days the only feature i use regularly is to disable data overnight.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
- Airplane mode over night
- automatic wireless connection with "location" feature (if near a known wireless network it starts the wireless and connects, if not near it directly starts 3G)
- I do not have to mess with on/off wireless/3G
- automatically syncs every hour, so I have to do nothing but still get my mails
- with rooted phone underclock on screen off
- bluetooth off after 5 mins without connected bluetooth device
etc....
It is NOT for you if you want to have online connection all the time. And it is not for you if you don't mind to do all the things manually it does for you.
And in my opinion only the full version really helps, the free version does not much...
I think it's a great app! :good:
If you just need to auto toggle data, check out 3GBattery too.

basically, there are 2 main things that drain our devices: 1) 3g/2g and 2) display brightness. I've been using JD since ever, and the difference is awesome with and without. Even the free version is enough to save some batt, in the Agressive mode (connects every 30min).
Besides JD, I am using Greenify. Which needs root to work and does a beautiful job with background apps like Facebook, GMaps etc.
works on both my devices :good:
Personally I think this app is useless.
As OP has said, you can just set up those things manually.
This app just eats RAMs and use your battery up more.

Battery drain in sleep..

So I already made a thread about this a bit ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025669 but this is a bit different see I get good battery life on screen (4 hours max). But I'm getting some **** ass batterywhen tthe phone is in sleep I kept the phone in airplane mode from 6 am to 12 pm from 100 it became 96.. I tried roms.. Kernels nothing fixed it. Maybe there's a bad app but I use better battery stats and really there's nothing 'bad'. But damn it.. I can post some screen shots about better battery stats results later I hope I get a reply.. This really does indeed ducks. People get a drain from 100 to 96 when they have everything turned on I had everything off!
4% battery loss over 18 hours is a commendable feat! Anyways, do you use a leather case, or keep the phone in a jeans pocket all the time? The higher temperature can be the cause. Though in my opinion, it's not a battery strain you should be worried about

Thanks.. Maybe because the weather here is hot and I keep the phone in the car for a lot of times (not that hot in a hidden spot )
Guys can it be from Auto Sync? I just wiped off the whole phone(backedup ofc) and i didnt install any apps or whatever which means no syncing and im getting awesome battery..is it because of Auto sync my battery drains quick?now heres why i think its auto sync rather then anything else.Keep in mind i have ALOT of stuff syncing..
1 twitter
1 Facebook
2 Gmail
3 hotmail
Whatsapp
HP Printer connected
1 Samsung account
Now i want to know..if i disable auto sync for lets say Whats App. I wont be able to recieve any messages unless i open up the app? Will i get facebook notifications?Twitter mentions?Email notifications?

If you turn off AutoSync, it's not going to sync and you're not going to get Pull notifications, but Push notifications should still work. Apps like Gmail use Push notifications, so the server tells the phone there's new email, instead of the phone waking up to ask the server. It depends on the app if it has Push notifications in it. I know G+, Gmail and Facebook do for example.
However, whether it's Push or Pull notifications, they still wake your phone up when they happen. So you're going to have wakelocks either way. With Pull, it's going to happen every time the AutoSync fires off. With Push, it will happen every time a notification comes in.
You can set up apps like Tasker and JuiceDefender to periodically turn on the radio and check for messages, then turn everything off again. That will help a lot.
Personally, as long as I get a full 18 hour+ day I don't limit the radios. I charge mine every night so I don't need to get 3 days of life out of it. Seems pointless to buy a smart phone, then disable everything about it that makes it a smart phone just to get 72 hours of battery. I can always use airplane mode if I'm not going to be near a charger for more than a few days.
Try Air Push Detector to check which app is waking up.

[Q] Searching an app/mod for automatic wifi/3G connection

Hey guys,
I am searching for a mod or app that makes my Handy go online in a set period.
For example I have set the Wi-fi not to be on always when screen is off and have activated the standby mode (so 3G won´t be on when screen is off), because it makes the battery last so much longer. And now I don´t want to always have to switch on screen or touch my phone I would just like it to go online every 30 minutes for 1-2 minutes so i get the notifications and see i have missed something because of the notification light.
I know you will answer me just turn everything on always but that drains the battery to much.
Hope someone could help me.
Try juice defender, from the play store
