Moto x features - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is it possible to have moto x features for our phone?
I hope so. Because it's almost the same phone specs wise and looks IMO.
And the features are software related.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

They're not though. It has a dedicated voice processor for the voice stuff and a low power processor for the notifications
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4

No. The moto x has 8 cores. Ours only has 2. Every core on the moto x is used for something.

Works pretty well.

That is as close as we're gonna get with the features

I've got some reboots with active notifications...
Inviato dal mio Galaxy Nexus usando Tapatalk 4

ActiveNotifications was pretty useless to me, it drained my phone in about 8 hours which effectively is halfway during the day...
I tested it last week, not sure if it has anything to do with 4.3

The Moto X has a Qualcomm S4 SoC with X8 Computing, it beats our NP in every aspect even the AMOLED is RGB ours is PenTile. Except for the Nexus branding Moto X dominates our Nexus Prime .

I've been using ActiveNotifications for weeks and have seen no noticeable difference in battery life and it works flawlessly. On AOSPA 3.97 and Golden Kernel. Not sure why you are having issues. It's too bad, it's a great app.. :good:

^^what he said

Active notifications hasnt given me any issues. I'm holding off on putting it back on my phone though until the developer gets some of the litle bugs worked out.
As far as other Moto X features, this works really well as the camera launching feature:

And this works pretty good for the always listening/Google now feature (still n early stages):

It's all about personal preference. The Nexus has data speeds with a theoretical max of 21 Mbps where as the S2 is 42.
On the other hand, the nexus will always have the latest and greatest software ( as long as the device is still supported by google).
Depends on what you're going to do. With a custom ROM, I found the performance to be slightly better with the G.Nexus in normal day-to-day activities such as texting and web browsing (because of Project Butter). However, the difference is pretty small. I also highly prefer the stock OS but G.Nexus does not have wifi calling so that was a deal breaker for me.

I really want a Samsung device. I can't afford 500+ for a new phone. But 350, hella yeah. With this Nexus you wouldn't need to worry about "lack of roms". Plus, from what I've been seeing. I don't think Google is releasing a new Nexus Phone. The Nexus 7 & Q took that place this year. So you wouldn't need to worry about an old device

Get the Galaxy Nexus if you like to get updates from Google and if you want a bigger screen. Get the S2 if you want a better camera and touchwiz.
S2 with AOKP all the way but that's just my opinion.

The Nexus 4 has a better processor and supposedly a better screen and camera. Plus the 2GB of ram vs 1GB ram in the Galaxy Nexus. The kicker is the Nexus 4 is 350.00 (16Gb) or 300.00 (8GB). I wonder if Google is gone drop the price of the Galaxy Nexus from 350.00 down to 275.00 or 250.00.
I bought my g-nex a month ago for $370...would have waited but I needed a phone and I didn't think Google would sell the new nexus for so cheap!
I do prefer the look of the galaxy nexus though...or maybe that's just my mind's defense mechanism to keep me from getting depressed =(

Upgrade to Google Nexus 4

Hello,
I've just been given a Samsung Google nexus phone.
I was wondering if it was worth keeping it or simply selling it off and out the money towards a Google Nexus 4.
Is it really that much better?
I imagine it will take some time before it has much development done and ROMs on offer..
On paper it seems clearly much better.
My question is : is it really?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
Slap yourself for a number of reasons. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642801 then search XDA or Google if you need more info or opinions.
I've been using the gnex since it came out last year. With the latest paranoid android rom, and Franco kernel, this phone is flying! Both developers are working on the nexus 4,but I'm personally super happy with my gnex. No plans to upgrade.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm still thinking about it, but the buildquality is significantly lower than the Gnex.
And in my country their not selling it for the low price of 350$.
People are offering them for 450€ on the web though.
But still an LG built phone for 450!?
Check out Adam Outler's teardown of if, it will give you much insight on the buildquality.

Quad core quickens overall ui, scrolling, booting, app loading and other things(maybe the gpu helps a bit)
I noticed in the gnex/nex4 comparison video theres quite a gap in performance(though the Gnex is pretty fast still)
Though i dont consider the Nexus4 to be that huge of an upgrade to the Gnex, i wouldnt go back to it if i already had the nexus 4

That's right. GPU has its contribution among others in scrolling. I really envy the power of Adreno 225. I wish our PowerVR SGX540 was at least in one third as powerful. I wouldn't trade gn until it dies then.

Not much of an upgrade....save your money for the NX5/Moto X
The N4's glass back will give you heaps of worries
If I had fully working gnex perhaps I would wait until n5 or maybe go for s4 or HTC one. But since it died and I didn't had unlimited funds I went for n4...and I am really happy, I would never downgrade. It's blazing fast, screen is awesome. Even voice quality (in call) seems higher. Of course it has its flaws, but which device hasn't? Wifi and data signal are as weak as on gnexus. Yeah glass back but that's what cases are for. Maybe it's not a huge upgrade in terms if camera (still very average) but it is a noticeable difference overall . For me N4 feels like Gnex on steroids. Exactly what I was looking for and I don't need much more.

Samsung Galaxy S3 or Xperia ZL?

I found a deal that would get me a Galaxy S3 or an Xperia ZL at the same price, the S3 is new, and the Xperia ZL is a used one. I've been having many problems with my Galaxy Nexus lately and am looking for a suitable replacement.
Which one is a better option?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why not not wait for the nexus 5 or pick up a cheap nexus 4. Or flash the factory images on your galaxy nexus and see if that fixes your issues.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
They're not problems a rom can fix, the charging port doesn't work anymore, the power button doesn't work, and the screen is cracked. So..
Edit: And I don't want the Nexus 4 because of its lack of support for usb otg.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Taking newer phones out of consideration, I'll choose ZL hands-down - feels nicer in hand, has better hardware, uses onscreen nav keys (a huge perk for me), has much better support from both Sony and community (Samsung terminates their phones early, and keeps some codes secret / lock bootloader so that custom ROMs always hit obstacle). Fsck Samsung for all its phones except Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus.
But yeah, as said above, treasure your Nexus I treasure those Nexii so much that I bought a screen-cracked GNex just days ago (here in China we can replace only the screen glass instead of the glass+display, and costs merely ~$25)... Flash it to a clean state and see what magic happens. Sorry I saw what you said, good luck with a new companion. Not the Samsung Galaxy S4 "Life Companion".

Yeah, I'll be keeping this guy even when I get a new phone. I personally like the ZL better, but looking at the dev support and comparing it to the S3, it's really not great, and that's what breaks it for me. As for the S3, I like everything about it, except for the Design. -_-

That's a much harder choice, but I'd still ditch Exynos 44xx (both S3 and Note 2 has this CPU) because it's very developer-unfriendly. One X+ on the other hand provides lower performance (Tegra 3 sucks), but if this device you buy doesn't have to last long, should be okay.

That's right. But truth is, developers on XDA are not the giving up type. I've a Note 2 with SlimBean (android 4.3.1) running perfectly smooth with zero bugs since I used their first builds. 6+ hours screentime, 21k in antutu without any overclocking, no glitches, all working (1080p HD filming, camera, BT, tethering, wifi, etc etc.)
Go for the Note 2. Best device I ever had and the development community is very vivid with ****loads of well maintained roms, including official cm 10.2 nightlies. There's also the samsung official touchwiz android 4.3 leak available, so seems this device isn't written off yet by Samsung, and I suppose this can only benefit the dev community even more.
