GS4 lag, weird discovery - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

So we all know the GS4 out of the box has some atrocious lag. Well I went through the steps to clear a lot of it out without rooting. Just stock, and changing some settings within the OS itself. But I was still noticing some small lag here and there. Well it turns out I put my GS4 on the charger and start using it, and I notice that there is significantly less lag, I unplug it, and then it goes back to usual lag. I have done this back and forth a couple of times, with the same results.
So could it be that Samsung ramps up the CPU when on the charger?

I never experienced lag on this phone until yesterday and I noticed google services was using uo my battery. Went to the google settings and there is a new option call android device manager and I unchecked all the location settings and lag gone. Also if you have google currents go into settings and disable background sync.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2

Checked that and it's completely off. I wouldn't put it past Samsung do that, we've already seen them ramp up the processor and gpu for the benchmark rests, my guess is that they lower the clock speed when not charging or maybe below a certain percentage.

No lag here. Sorry to hear that bro

It's not like it's everywhere, it's just in a few places, like hangouts, where my One never lagged, or sometimes a jitter when swiping through apps or home screens. Guess I'm just not used to it coming from the One. But there is a difference in performance when plugged into a charger and not.

Watch a movie on the one or play a game. Its night and day compared to the S4.
My cousin has the one. YouTube takes at least 2 more seconds, worse quality, and skips.
Games skip/lag, and loading time is longer for the One.
You gotta take the good with the bad with either phone.

That is true, the YouTube app is much more solid on the GS4. But one small thing is that I get this huge black bar at the top of my YouTube app when I switch from portrait to landscape. Anyone know how to fix that?

That's just the app itself. That's not even a problem. If something like that REALLY bother you, then you're EXTREMELY anal about things.
P.s. I think you're a ONE fanboy that came on here to put down the S4.

Exactly what black line are you referring to?

I even took a screenshot of YouTube with the search bar left on. No double black bar on my phone.
Like I said before. Its a ROM/app issue. Or phone issue.

Flipboard app lags?

Has anybody else felt that the Flipboard app lags on their phone, like when you are flipping up and down the articles in the pages, it's weird because it seems like this is literally the only app I've found that shows worse performance when compared to my dual core one x from before, all other apps the sgs3 rips through them.
Wondering if any of you had similar experiences with the Flipboard app? Thanks

No. I would look at the other things installed on your device. Flipboard has been lag free for me too.
It's not nearly as smooth as it was on my AT&T One X, either. I noticed it immediately when I installed it. I'm using Diet ICS 7.6.

What is your favorite Galaxy S3 exclusive feature?

Of the many features Samsung included in the Galaxy S3, what is your favorite (or one of them) and why? Even if it isn't exclusive to the phone, I'm curious to know.
Personally, and I didn't think this would be one of them when I heard about it, I LOVE Smart Stay. I usually use my phone a lot to browse and read forums and other internet documents. My old phone was constantly turning off the screen while I read a long post. My Galaxy S3 never turns it off. One of the best features of the phone imo. It's all the little things that work together to make this phone so great.
So what is your favorite feature of the phone?

Messaging app eating up battery

Not sure why messaging app is using more battery then everything else when there's so little time used. Using 4.2 keyboard, but don't think that would show up as messaging app.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
What's your screen on time? My screen on time was 6h 41m with 25h unplugged and at 10% battery the screen only used 29% of battery usage in the battery stats. The screen is so dang energy efficient in this phone that it won't be abnormal to see apps claim that top usage spot now. If your screen usage is low, that's not that odd for the messaging app. Seems like you still have decent battery life based on your stats.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
2hrs 7 minutes. Just find it hard to believe 5-6 minutes of texting = 2hrs of on screen time. actually more so now. At this point I think ill only hit 3 hrs on screen time
Just looked at battery thread and it seems like I'm the only one that even has messaging listed. I'm running all stock, non rooted, 4.2 keyboard and nova launcher. Can't see any of those doing the battery drain, hope I'm not going to have to uninstall the keyboard or do a factory reset.

Space bar is too small for fast typing. Its a small bar right in the center and too small in comparison with the rest of the keyboard. Wow just realized the 4.2 keyboard has swype noticated it on accident.

Does the stock keyboard have auto-correct? I seem to make a lot of mistakes using it that go unedited, but hardly make any with Swiftkey...
Also, I just checked my battery usage and ES File explorer accounted for 19%... is that normal?!

No, doesnt sound normal. Mine doesnt even show up and I have ES installed.

YouTube buffering problem

A while ago I started encountering a problem with the YouTube app. 95% of the time when I load up a video it buffers every 15 seconds. I kill the app, toggle my wifi on and off, go back to the app and it loads the videos normally quick for 20 minutes, then it starts buffering again... I tried deleting the app cache and data, uninstalling and reinstalling, changing wifi frequency to both options and yet it is not working. I know it isn't my Internet because I can stream video from the browser with no problems, every other app works fine with the connection except YouTube. Any ideas to fix this issue?

Ever since a few updates ago it's only gotten increasingly harder to load up a video. God forbid your on 3g. Also check if the video is on HD. If it is turn it off in the bottom left corner when it's in landscape and it'll load no problem and it'll still be pretty clear. If its on HQ it should load after a few seconds with maybe just one buffer
