S4 mini LTE only H+ not 4G - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In my s4 mini i cannot get 4G signal, only H+. And i am in 4G zone. Anyone have this issue? Thanks

Nope, I am in Singapore and do not have this issue. Are you on stock ROM?
S4 Mini's LTE radio supports:
LTE Band 3 (1,800MHz), Band 7 (2,600MHz), Band 8 (900MHz), Band 20 (800MHz)
[Source]
Vodafone Portugal supports Band 20 (800MHz), Band 3 (180 MHz) and Band 7 (2600MHz)
[Source]
So it should work.

Best of luck!
I suggest you check with your carrier on the 4G status and your phone if it still doesn't work!

There is coverage in my zone from my carrier. I will contact Vodafone to see if they help me to find the problem. Thanks for the help
EDIT: there was a problem with my service in the network. It is fixed now, have 4G.

Congrats!

I have a somewhat similar problem of owning an s4 mini but only getting HSPA+ (icon "H+" in the status bar) and not 4G LTE (icon "4G"). In fact, since I purchased the unit in late July, I have *never* to my knowledge had 4G service, only HSPA+. The key difference from the OP is that I am in the U.S., have T-Mobile as my carrier, and my s4 mini is an unlocked unit. Has anyone else bought an unlocked s4 mini for the U.S. market and not been able to achieve 4G LTE?
T-Mobile offers 4G LTE in my area (Detroit area), and I have also used the phone in Hawaii, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland, OR. In none of these places have I attained 4G LTE service.
At first, T-Mobile said that the phone probably operates on incompatible bands with their network. But I confirmed that the 4G LTE bands used by T-mobile are supported by the s4 mini. So back to why no 4G LTE??? Any advice would be great appreciated. Love everything about the phone, except for the disappointment of having expected to have 4G LTE on my newly purchased phone.

Anyone know if this will enable LTE for the TMOUS network? Also what are the TMOUS LTE frequencies and which ones do the phone use because I cannot confirm they are similar.

Hi newarkoz,
I have the same problem in Vodafone PT, when I called the customer service, they tried to make an elaborate excuse that 4G signal was being displayed as H+ on S4 mini.
And by now I know it´s a lie.
Can you share what you did?

Yes it is a lie. I called the customer service and they told me that my SIM CARD wasn't 4G so they send me another to my home (or you can go get one in a store). Then the problem persisted, so i called them again and they said that they needed to activate the 4G in my service. In one hour i get 4G on S4 Mini.
Maybe your problem is on the SIM CARD... Try to go to a store.
And see in this page if the location where you are trying to use 4G is covered: http://www.vodafone.pt/main/Ajuda/Cobertura/

Are you sure its a GSM network? As far as I know, the galaxy s is incompatible with cdma networks. I could be wrong tho.
Sent from my LG-P930
Movistar in Spain uses GSM, not CDMA, but the bands are not the same for 3G, that'e your problem. You won't get 3G on Europe, only in the US with AT&T, Canada with almost any carrier, and any country from Mexico to Argentina.
Maybe in Australia/India you can have 3G, I don't know, but there are some members with a Glide from India, they can answer this better than me.
Thank you, I'm stupid, I should havechecked that before buying the phone

I think I may have good news for you, check this:
http://www.unlockit.co.nz/mobilesettings/settings.php?id=27
There's a good chance you have to set the APN settings manually, the above link shows you how to do this. These are the settings that tell your phone how to get onto the data network, if those are not already in the phone or set automatically. Give it a try, your problem has occurred more often and this was the solution!
Setting the APN manually should get internet working, but since the phone doesn't support the bands needed for 3G in Spain, that won't solve the 2G only problem. Still, working 2G data should make it at least fairly usable until you acquire a phone that supports your local bands.
Perhaps not in Spain then, but it works elsewhere in Europe. I live in The Netherlands and I get 3G. Haven't looked into the frequency bands, but it all works perfectly here. There are several other European users here, and I've never read anything about not having 3G because of frequency band issues.

AT&T Samsung SGH-i317 Galaxy Note II LTE on Simple Mobile

Morning guys...
This is my very first thread on this forum so please bear with me if something was not done the right way.
Since I couldn't find an specific thread for this specific topic that's why I decided to post a new thread on this.
This thread will help you get a Stock AT&T Samsung SGH-i317 Galaxy Note II LTE phone with a stock ROM into Simple Mobile network with working 4G.
I can't guarantee this method would work on other Galaxy Note II models so please make sure your phone is exactly the same as the specs described on this link.
Also please be aware I cannot and will not be responsible for any damage this thread could cause to your phone. All I can say is, I tried this myself on my own phone and it worked for me and my only intention here is to share my experience to other users on my same situation.
So let's get into business!
Verify the phone specs. Please make sure your phone is an AT&T Samsung SGH-i317 Galaxy Note II LTE phone and that it matches the specs described here.
Get your phone unlocked. On a personal note this appears to be a must, so if you can't get it unlocked for some reason don't even bother moving forward down the list. I followed this thread to unlock my phone. Yes, the thread is for a Galaxy Note I, but it still worked for me.
Get it rooted. That can be done here.
Flash a stock T-Mobile ROM. That also can be done here which is the same thread as of step 3.
Enable AWS band. Is worth mentioning if you made it here successfully, then you already can use Simple Mobile just fine!, however you'll be stuck on 2G/EDGE unless you Enable AWS band here. This will let you enable 3G and 4G on your phone!.
Now at this point I'm sure you may be able to use another ROM of your desire, but I'm not 100% sure if that would work. On my personal recommendation I would first try the 5 steps EXACTLY as described above. Then if you still want to use another ROM, then you may need to repeat steps 4 and 5 with another ROM.
Now I also want to say, the credit is not all mine here. All I did was to compile the information altogether for you guys. Please don't forget to thank me, as well as the original thread owners compiled in this list.
Good luck in the Kitchen!
Reserved!
^^^Thanks, thread moved to general and stuck for easy reference.

Wait, You Menchtened LTE and 4G, And in which T-Mobile doesnt have. T-Mobile has 3G/3.5G HSPA+ but not 4G..
U dont need aws band on at&t phonez lmao noobs all u need is your phone unlocked and youll get on t-mobiles fake 4g .its cause t-mobile now shares at&t spectrum stop giveing people false info.

That is not entirely true sir. Not ALL areas have the 1900mhz Tmobile yet. You do need to unlock the AWS band for some areas to get the 4g. In my area (South Florida) they happen to have the 1900mhz 4g. I know because I sold an unlocked Infuse 4g (AT&T phone) to a buddy with a tmobile sim card and he got 4g on his phone.

Good information man. Ignore the OTHER GUY that is giving false information.
Everything worked for me, except one thing: CDMA VS GSM preference.
My CDMA signal is weak, so 4g cuts out. The phone just wants to default to EDGE as a first priority. How can I make CDMA the default preference so I always get 4g when available?
thanks!

I have a sgh-i317 with at&t radio uamc3 or something like that and jedi master 14 with aws mod. I also restored my friends nv item backup from his sgh-t889 with jedi master 14. I am getting the 4g bands but my phone will not connect to the lte bands of t mobile. is anyone else having this problem? I have tried everything to get lte includes odin to stock wich should allow me to connect to tmobiles lte but wont. other people are connecting with no problem. can anyonw help me think of more ways to fix this. or is this particular phone not support 1700mhzaws. I really dont get it as the specs everyware state it does. also when I select all lte bands and selct t mobile it say unable to connect, try again later. I put my sim in a s4 t mobile and lte works so it cant be the sim. I also put at&t sim in my phone and lte works so my lte chip/radio is working fine. is maybe the free unlock methode not unlocking my phone completely? any way to relock and do it with an an unlock code. franky I am puzzled. I am in an area getting t mobile lte, confirmed on both my friends with a note 2 and s4 from t mobile.

Unlocked AT&T S3 I747 for MetroPCS/TMobile

Has anyone here bought an unlocked AT&T S3 to use on the MetroPCS/Tmobile network? If so has there been any issues? shorter battery life, bad connectivity?
I am debating getting the S3 unlocked or HTC One S. I would prefer the HTC One S but it doesn't have microSD slot

Is that the same model as my phone? So it would be advisable, after I got the S3 to flash it with a MetroPCS ROM after activation by Metro?
I thought there would be no need of a flash if I got an unlocked phone.

You will have issues with 3G HSPA+ on 1700mhz, but 2G EDGE & 4G LTE will work just fine. If you live in a large metro area with a lot of LTE coverage it will be fine. I just went through this with my wife's phone, she had to have the Red one (AT&T specific).

Sweet thanks! Both areas that I frequent have 4G and LTE coverage. My only concern is when I'm driving long distances which I often do, being in college and losing 2G signal in the middle of no where. So far with my Metro phones, I haven't seen anywhere I had 3G coverage. its always 2G and 4G/LTE

Good, that is exactly what we are seeing as well. Mostly LTE coverage with EDGE to fallback on. Most all Metro areas and major highways/interstates will have good coverage. Funny enough we live in the middle of nowhere, but there is a major highway nearby so we get LTE coverage.
On a side note, US carriers marketed HSPA as 3G and HSPA+ as 4g, but both are technically 3G. True 4G is LTE. I am not sure if Metro ever had HSPA service, I think that they were just CDMA then later added LTE and have been migrated to TMo's GSM/HSPA network which now uses Metro's LTE as well. Only the newer GSM Based phones would connect to HSPA.

normally around 0.15mbs but sometimes it works great and I get around 15.00mbs
Given this is not an LTE device, that sounds about right. Weather, tower congestion do affect results.

The I747 is an LTE device, my wife's (running on TMo) works just fine on LTE, just not HSPA+ 1700MHz. I'll run speed test if people would like.
Unlocked att siii will not access metro/t-mobile data
Can someone verify for me what the correct apn settings are? Should there be a network operator? And since I think the apn is finally right, do you have any more suggestions? Also, do you know if this is CDMA or GSM?
can I ask why people want to buy an ATT phone to use on a Tmobile carrier? On the S4 and Note versions, people buy Tmobile phones and use them on ATT, myself included. This is because of the bootloader, and the Tmobile phones cover ATT LTE channels while not the opposite.
Wasn't planned
I didn't intentionally set out to buy an AT&T phone, I was just looking to upgrade and this was the best deal. Or at least it looked to be on the surface. Do I just need to forget it and try to sell it?
If you are in an area recently upgraded by T-Mobile, the I747 will work just fine. However, if you are in an are not upgraded with LTE, etc, it's waay more trouble than its worth. The above post about not getting HSPA+21/42 is worth considering too though.
T-Mobile and AT&T are both GSM networks btw.

I am actually on Metro P.S, but they are on the T-mobile network now in Atlanta, Ga where I live. We do run 4glte,but so far the fastest mine will connect to shows "E" on my phone, edge maybe? One of the many I've spoken with at metro said E is 3g. One of their repair techs said I needed a different SIM card because I had a CDMA phone but when I got to the store that had one he said it was a GSM phone. It's already about been more trouble than it is worth, but as much effort as I've put into it already, I'd like to resolve it.

I d/l'ed soundofmath's ATT port of Dirty Unicorns. Does not seem to function. My 4G never changes to LTE even know there is a setting that specifically defines either a 4G or LTE icon. I live in Phoenix, where LTE is everywhere. So IDK if I can confirm. D/L speed picked up a little on speedtest.net so maybe it is. I'm using the APN for the LTE network but its spotty on connection. So I just stick with the TMO one til I need the speed.

But if someone does figure it out.....then kudos.

I'll put good money on the radio supporting the LTE bands - but the device doesn't have connections or antennas for LTE.

Yup. Samsung was lazy and just put the options in for all S2 touchwiz roms, but of course the phones that don't support lte, like the t989 can't use it.
As I said, if lte were possible, smarter people than me would have had it working by now. Lol

Although, I was upgrading the TWRP currently installed on the phone, and Windows 8 installed a driver for "Samsung LTE Android Device". It was running a stock rooted debloated T-mobile rom.
But I still say it doesn't have the antennas.

That's an invalid code on my T989.
" Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
This phone doesn't have the antennas for LTE.

The setting are in there and the code works as long as you are on stock... Also it has been clarified that they were to lazy to remove the settings. But for fun next time you are on stock check it out

Thank you for clarifing it . I realized that could be the issue but was hoping for a miracle that they gave a hidden bonus. So its a hardware problem. I wish you would have posted in the other forum a long time ago... Time to remove some of my post..

Unlocking 4G service on n910p Outside the USA

Hi
i have a couple of questions here , how can i access USB settings on n910p
cyanogenmod rom 5.1.1
becuse i want to try this on it .
and i want to know is the phone hardware locked when it comes to the frequency it supports ?
becuse we have LTE B3 (1800) in my Country , and the phone supporte LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 12(700), 17(700)
so i want to try and unlock the 4g service if it's possible.
Let me give you an insight about your query...
1. I'm too using an unlocked N910P with a GSM SIM like you where the 4G bands present in my country are not supported by this phone's hardware.
2. I've tried the post that you are referring to in the past but wasn't able to do anything because the software QSPT couldn't find my phone. Tried several times but with no success.
3. You can access USB Settings using Iodene Tools or Galaxy Tools. It has now become a paid software so the developer has removed it from XDA. (Search on XDA to find some threads related to it. You might get help from someone).
In short, it's almost next to impossible to unlock the bands as there's a high possibility that some tempering must have been done with the motherboard to unlock it, especially if the phone you got came with some Chinese firmware on it.
You can always try to check if it works for you or not.

Thank you for your explanations. I have something to ask.
I bought N910P. It was on Lollipop and 4G/LTE network was fine. But then I upgraded to Marshmallow via Odin. And now, there's only 3G with setting already to 4G/LTE. What is this problem related to?
Thanks.

See, the 4G icon that you witnessed after purchasing N910P was just a false indication. In reality, the network was 3G. Even when I got this phone, it was on Lollipop and it used to show 4G and the funny part was that I wasn't even using 4G then.
I've seen many users getting confused regarding this matter.
The only option available is that the network providers of your country start 4G services in the band that is supported in US (which again is highly u).

That 4G icon you were seeing was just HSPA+ but not actually 4G. If you see LTE then you can assume that you are on actual 4G.
