HTC launches Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5 update for the One X - HTC One X

HTC has just launched an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update with its Sense 5 user interface for the HTC One X. For now, only the unlocked European version of the smartphone can benefit from the update, but the rest of the One X owners should get it in the coming weeks.
With Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 UI, the HTC One X gets features like Blinkfeed, Lockscreen widgets, as well as the Quick settings panel. The latter brings access to 12 different settings with a single swipe. Another user interface enhancement, albeit minor, is the battery level percent indicator next to the battery icon in the status bar.
The gallery app has been also overhauled with video highlights, which come with 12 different themes. There's also auto exposure and autofocus lock available in the camera app. Lastly, the music app enjoys the got visualization with live lyrics.
The Android 4.2.2 update for the HTC One X weighs at 380 megabytes and brings the software version of the device to 4.18.401.2.
HTC has been launching quite a lot of updates for its Android smartphones this summer. Just the week before, the company issued the very same update for the HTC One X+. In July, the company started seeding Android 4.2.2 for its flagship HTC One, and just a day after that the Butterfly got the Android 4.2.2 treatment.

What's to come: The HTC One X

Hi guys,
So I just thought I'd start a thread of to see what people expect to come to the One X over the next few months and what they would like too.
Obviously there have been rumors about a music streaking service and Sense 4.1. Do you think we could get better performance out of our device, live wallpapers fix etc?
If you have anything against this thread, don't comment. It's pointless, I agree, and has been made solely with the intention of finding put what people want and expect from their device in the up and coming months.

Android 4.0.4 and Kernel 3.0
Better Memory Management
Better Governor Management (ondemand issues with current version)
Yes, 4.0.4 and USB OTG would ne great...

I just hope that we get updated to jellybean officially so that roms would be more stable for jellybean that way...
4.0.4 is a must, and so is the 3.0 kernel.
Battery improvements is somewhat important
Oh, and ya, the imagesense chip and software both needs some serious tweaking. The video camera when taking another screen is ****...can't even focus..no matter where i place it.

Sense 4.1? Did I miss something? Or should that be android 4.1?
I would also like to see the 3.0 kernel and usb OTG. Would love to hook my HOX up to my dslr. Also, some more optimization of Sense wouldn't be the worst thing as I believe that having lag when scrolling between home screens is unacceptable for such a high end phone.
Edit: I forgot to wish for increased wifi performance

less laggy launcher.
kernel source to fix the laggy launcher
better kernel source to fix stupid haptic feedback vibration
option in app screens to create folders like in the homescreen
alphabetical order(if it is not already in order)apologies not had my phone for a few weeks so i forgot
best one though 4.0.4 update which fixes a whole load of issues
and kernel source oh and the playstation app for the games...press the thanks if you agree with me
Guys, 4.0.4 is not an update we need. It fixed a few issues running on a couple of phones. 4.1 Sense sounds good and so does jelly bean, no doubt jelly bean is coming to the HOX.

Most important ones in that order:
- Stable GPS (, especially when cycling slow or just walking)
- Improved battery life
- A way to change volume of all channels, because many apps use a channel (eg. Alarm, Notifications, Media) without giving the opportunity to change the volume of that channel
- better way to remove all default apps I don't use
- change behaviour of the hardware buttons (right button = menu, long press home= recent apps) - I already did this, but default would be nice for non-rooted devices.

+1 here as well. I don't want to root as genuinely don't want to give up my warranty but I am begging for this feature to get rid of that ugly menu onscreen button.
we need the following urgent features in the next update
- 3 Dot menu disable option or switch to hold the home button for menu
- Power options!! this is a must for such processor, Economy, Balanced and Performance mode like it is on the T Prime, needs a widget too! they can put a warning for users to know performance mode will drain more battery and cause higher temps
- Fix the flv video bug in the stock gallery
- Fix the crazy behavior in the stock browser like a better way for the nav bar to come up at will
- Fix applications priorities Sense should never reload during normal use but it should kill it and most background process during heavy games
- They should also include ultra rosie officially for stutter free sense launcher
- If they are generous they can provide multitasking options too since these can be switched on the fly in android!
these will make the HOX the ultimate device and kill the need to root
3 dot
Sort out the multitasking
Profiles for the tegra cores, for gaming, general use ect

Isn't Google to blame for the 3 dots and new button layouts?
I thought that HTC were simply following their ICS guidelines.
But either way, I much prefer the older layout / functionality too.

Multitasking fix
Even more performance and speed haha
Better camera software (Arc beats the HOX...)
Smoother Sense launcher

Personally I would like to see the following:
- HTC Hub more 'personalized' for the Tegra 3, such as free games etc.
- Sense certainly needs speeding up and prioritizing over other applications.
- Charging & Screen issue, when Charging the phone can sometimes become unresponsive.
- Speaker optimization, sometimes when playing Audio it will go quiet on Bass as the speakers equalizer isn't perfect.
- Slightly better battery life, I still don't think it totally uses the Low-Power Core to it's full potential.
As to people banging on about the buttons, have you noticed in some non-Google developed applications the 3-dot menu does not appear? The 3-dot menu can be disabled by the application developer if there is another way to get into the menu. For example on Need For Speed Hot Pursuit the 3-dot menu appears at the side, however hitting Pause will take me to the same menu as the 3-dot menu. This is a developer issue, the menu is enabled on ICS by default, but can be turned off by the developer!
Agree with most of what's been said.
Don't forget Sweep2Wake to save the power button and for those with small hands.
Nope. Not entirely. Although google seems like they want to get rid of physical buttons, it's HTC's decision whether they want to have a 3 dot menu button OR not. This is easily removable and shouldn't take much effort if any at all.
PlayStation mobile game coming soon too, that will be really awesome

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?

hi guys, i see on all IT News that there is new storm comming! Android Jelly Bean!
Android 4.1 is the fastest and smoothest version of Android yet. We’ve made improvements throughout the platform and added great new features for users and developers. This document provides a glimpse of what's new for developers.
See the Android 4.1 APIs document for a detailed look at the new developer APIs: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-4.1.html
Faster, Smoother, More Responsive
Android 4.1 is optimized to deliver Android's best performance and lowest touch latency, in an effortless, intuitive UI.
To ensure a consistent framerate, Android 4.1 extends vsync timing across all drawing and animation done by the Android framework. Everything runs in lockstep against a 16 millisecond vsync heartbeat — application rendering, touch events, screen composition, and display refresh — so frames don’t get ahead or behind.
Android 4.1 also adds triple buffering in the graphics pipeline, for more consistent rendering that makes everything feel smoother, from scrolling to paging and animations.
Android 4.1 reduces touch latency not only by synchronizing touch to vsync timing, but also by actually anticipating where your finger will be at the time of the screen refresh. This results in a more reactive and uniform touch response. In addition, after periods of inactivity, Android applies a CPU input boost at the next touch event, to make sure there’s no latency.
Tooling can help you get the absolute best performance out of your apps. Android 4.1 is designed to work with a new tool called systrace, which collects data directly from the Linux kernel to produce an overall picture of system activities. The data is represented as a group of vertically stacked time series graphs, to help isolate rendering interruptions and other issues. The tool is available now in the Android SDK (Tools R20 or higher) http://developer.android.com/tools/index.html
Enhanced Accessibility
New APIs for accessibility services let you handle gestures and manage accessibility focus as the user moves through the on-screen elements and navigation buttons using accessibility gestures, accessories, and other input. The Talkback system and explore-by-touch are redesigned to use accessibility focus for easier use and offer a complete set of APIs for developers.
Accessibility services can link their own tutorials into the Accessibility settings, to help users configure and use their services.
Apps that use standard View components inherit support for the new accessibility features automatically, without any changes in their code. Apps that use custom Views can use new accessibility node APIs to indicate the parts of the View that are of interest to accessibility services.
AND A LOT A LOT of other features according to Android Developer Community at: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html
I was wondering if i could inspire the HTC One X Developers, to be the first one's that this Jelly Bean OS will be developed for HTC One X coz i can't handle the Samsung Galaxy S3 Users with their mods, roms, n stuff.
I WANT TO SHOW THEM THAT WE ARE THE BEST!
Watch this wonderful video at: http://youtu.be/V5E5revikUU
There is already a port from GNex system dump. Also a Nexus 7 system dump was made available so let's see how it goes.

Wel battery life is to early to discus. It needs some more power cycles. For now: Normally on 3G mine dropped 9/12% every hour while in standby, yesterday it was around 4/6 % every hour while in standby. I have a lot of stuff that syncs (3 exchange push, 4 IMAP 1hour), Whatsapp, Viber, VoIP, Facebook, Twitter.
Overall the ROMS feels finished, unlike the ROM that the HOX came shipped with. Everything works good now, you can clearly see that HTC has listened to the people.
Well 18th of august is a first ETA, could be later. But just like all the OTA's now, 401 will be the first to get it, all the others will follow.

It is 2.6.39 but a new release. Don't know why they have not added 3.0 or 3.1, maybe it needs more debuggin or they want to keep it for Android 4.1... Don't know.

I know this is not exactly on topic but does anyone know whether the email on CM10 builds can render this properly (at a more reasonable size!) ?

The rumours are correct, Sense 4.1 finally killed ultra ultra smooth Rosie
Also the homescreen flip animation is a little changed it happens slower a little like frame rate locked I love it
It can still drop frames if u push it...but I'm not sure ultra can be done this time
App drawer opening remains laggy but like the 2.05 leak more smooth and lags less often on stock kernel
Performance in games and CPU governor is the exact same as 2.05 including broken multicore in interactive governor
Governor values still resets on screen unlock
Live wallpaper are now working, the launcher remains 60fps even with the phase beam LWP
Multitasking min frees are still the same
Flicker share is back (was gone in 2.05)

Will We (The HTC One V) Community Definitely Get CM10.1/CM11?

I figured I can ask lol without harm, but with the announcement of JB 4.2 when the AOSP is released we will definitely get upgrades to CM10/11 or any other AOSP/AOKP build around here correct? Alot of the new features sounds kind of enticing lol.
yes we will surely get

Learning from android's website, in 4.2 they improved the keyboard (now with swipe gestures) and made a new camera app from scratch. They also improved google now, they added the abillity to share a video or photo wirelessly, they added an idle screensaver and that's about it...
Of course, if there is something changed at its core, they will never put it on the website. But i don't think 4.2 will be so much different than 4.1...

Lollipop vs Kitkat Smoothness and battery.

Hi guys, some weeks ago i received lollipop ota on my m8. i updated and after that i made a factory reset just to be sure nothing from kitkat remains. but now i notice that the phone is not smooth and have a good battery that it was on kitkat. i will show some situations:
1-recent apps screen, on kitkat apps appeared faster, on lollipop takes a while to load all 9 apps in grid view, also in card view sometimes the scroll is not running at 60fps.
2-apps are slower to open and they are not staying on ram like was on kitkat. there is a lot more of reloading apps, and multitasking is not as smooth as it was.
3-camera is slower to open, i don't know if this was cause by play store updates from htc camera or lollipop firmware. also sometimes when i take a picture and press the photo to see a message appears "image is being saved" and i have to press again to open the photo. i don't use sd card and have 17gb of space free.
4-battery is draining faster, i always do an overnight test, 6~8 hours of idle, on kitkat i can wake in the morning with 100% battery, now i woke up with 95%. i left google now off, location on, sincronization on, wifi on. the same stuff that i used with kitkat, except for one thing, smart lock by location, maybe is the problem, i will make a test later. also battery is draining faster on usage, i can see battery dropping very fast when using feedly or chrome.
5-about chrome, maybe is just the app and not lollipop. is slower, sometimes the blue progress bar do not appear, and sometimes it just don't load any page after clicking enter, and i have to close and try again. also embedded youtube videos do not have sound and i have to use youtube app(the can drain the phone battery in 4 hours when using continuoulsy and 100% brightness, while on mx player it lasts more than 9 hours SoT).
6-The android encryption is enabled by default on m8? if yes, is there a way to disable it?
Lollipop brought a lot of good stuff, like lock screen notifications, better notification and quick settings design, but the phone doesn't feel like was some months ago, the fastest and smoother android phone i ever used with very fast multitasking and very good battery. anyone share the same feeling? and if there is something that can make the phone go back to be smooth like was?
Have you tried sense7 ? If your phone is unlocked and rooted; try sense 7. Everything has improved.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I do wonder, which good things has Lollipop brought? I am waiting for Sense 7, but on Sense 6 I don't see any.
I have the same problem, particularly in battery life. Used to have great battery life, now it sucks. Is there a proper fix?
I returned to kitkat and device was a lot smoother and with better battery. But now I am running stock gpe 5.1 and I'm very happy with it. I only miss sense camera, I installed it but do not work properly.
One thing you can do is install xposed if you're rooted and do the amplify tutorial. Get rid of a lot of wakelocks
KitKat
I used both versions for M8 (4.4.4 and 5.0.1 official sense software)
And i highly recommend android 4.4.4 for HTC One M8.
Kitkat is more smoother and unbuggy than Lollipop. No restriction on offical apps (like photo gallery zoe features this features really cool but HTC disable this features on Lollipop.)
Android Kitkat 4.4.4 sense 6 really really good for M8. So.. I'm back to KitKat and I'm not regretful about that

Why kitkat if you have Marshmallow already?
Was about to ask the same thing. MM is the better version of kitkat if you ask me ! It's smooth and very battery friendly for me
Kitkat,Lollipop and Marshmallow is smooth but Lollipop and Marshmallow have visual effects and they have mater design I don't like these features.
Also
Dalvik machine better than Art Machine even if Art system gain better point than Dalvik on Antutu Benchmark.
Because most of apps adapted to Dalvik machine ,you can see this moment on offical HTC apps like music apps or some 3D games or when you write something on forums;keyboard really buggy on Lollipop therefore KitKat is best choice of me. Because I can move in software without bugs.
