Okay it seems that the recently released cm10.1 doesn't have a FM radio.
Does anyone Has the FM Radio from the stock Samsung ROM? Because i actually use that alot.
I've been seaching the web without succes.
Well i got Spirit Unlocked to work but its buggy and poor reception.
And please dont come with awnsers like 'the devs dont give a *** about FM radio, people have asked in the past, or use (internet) radio' as i do not have internet all the time or an internet data plan.
I just want a FM radio that uses ota and not internet.
So can anyone help me out??

I agree, please integrate or create APK for CM...
I actually got Spirit FM to work perfectly, no more signal losses and finds all of our country's channels.
For anyone wondering why they have no sound:
I've set the band to World 200Khz (as i'm euro) & Audio Method to: Digital OneXL/S/Sony it's the only one out of the list that works for the GT-I9195 (atleast for me), and a few other things at the Debug section, which i don't know out of the top of my head.
Glad i did not waste the money.

I cancel any order at any time on request. And have been doing so for over 2 years. Back then HTC Desire and Nexus One were big and I still support those (as best I can of course).
Now, GS3, HTC One and Xperia's are big and I'm now supporting those too.
It's a "crazy" job trying to support all these, on MANY different custom & stock ROMs, and nobody else is crazy enough to seriously try it seems.

My ability to support a device is directly related to how much support I get from customers. If it's enough, I buy the phone to support it better.

I'm not sure as ive seen you for first time now and i havent mailed anyone. I do know that developers have struggle with different roms and phones but codes for fm radio shouldnt be that hard. Even the S4 mini stock rom has a FM radio tuner, so missing it on cm10.1 was a bummer.
However for myself, im good now, as i have spirit fm to work with CM10.1.3 as mentioned before.

Even without the debug settings i had sound once i changed audio method. Make sure you have your
headphones plugged in as it functions as an attenna.
BAND - World 200khz (This might not be the same for you)
AUDIO - METHOD MODE (DigitalXL/ONE/S)
UI - RDS: (ON)
AF - AF MODE: RDS+Region
DEBUG - FM CHIP: (QC V4L HTC) & Motorola FW Load: (HCI)
the rest is default.

That setting is only for the paid Unlocked version, though past Free versions may have had a "bug" that still allowed it.

I think we can blame the US market for the lack of recording in most FM apps. I think there's some group or something that charges $10 or so for "FM recorders". And as always, US market effects often hit the rest of the world.
I think this is why there are virtually no MP3/FM players that record. It's a simple feature addition is many cases, so it's omission seems strange.
And only one company, Samsung, has (had) recording in their FM app on International high end phones (GS2, GS3, Note, Note2). And none of the US carriers sell/sold these International phones.
I presume that whatever groups demand ransom for FM recording have either never heard of my app, or figure I'm small potatoes and not worth pursuing.

What frequency ?
Could be a bug in the kernel FM driver.
If you have Unlocked with RDS, try turning it off.
If that fixes it, send me an email.

Hi,
so I have tried turned off the RDS and it doesn't help.
I live in the Czech Republic and I found several stations with this problem.
The first was Country radio 89.5 MHz (Prague)
My phone is i9195 with Cyanogenmod 10.1 (problem is same on all modifications based on the same kernel) so problem is probably there.

Our GSII comes with a built in FM Transmitter/Receiver chip. I haven't seen a link on this. Has anyone unlocked the potential of this hardware feature yet? I would love to be able to transmit an FM signal.

The phone has the Broadcom BCM4330XKFFBG 802.11 a/b/g/n MAC/Baseband/Radio with Integrated Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM Transceiver/Receiver. Not sure if we're going to have to be rooted to utilize this hardware but we have the internals to broadcast our music to our cars with our phones alone.

it all boils down to if the transmitter is actually connected to the chipset
the evo also has an FM transmitter but there really wasnt any attempt from anyone to get it working.

And if there is a strong enough antenna to transmit. It takes alot more power to transmit than it does to receive

My galaxy s II came with an fm receiver app that works nicely. idk if it would work on the epic
Hmmm....think of the possibilities. With a lot of states requiring hands-free cell phone operation, could this be made to work as hands free device for your vehicle? It would definitely save us consumers from having to buy yet ANOTHER piece of hardware for our phones, which can damn near drive our vehicles for us anyway.
Are there any in the market that has been tried?
I've tried spirit FM and it did not work, I wasn't really aware how much I used it, till I got this phone.

You need it enabled in the kernel. I tried enabling and it compiled but this phone in afraid doesn't have the hw for fm radio. Att sgs2 doesn't either.. I only the intl

dont give up on this, the potential is amazing!
Noone has gotten fm transmitter stuff working for any phone with these chips, even og epic had the chip capable of this. Probably the feature cause interference so it was not enabled. It would be a killer feature and u would imagine one manufacturer would enable it if they could. So native something preventing then if doing that. I remember long time ago there was lg fusic flip phone that had fm transmitter on sprint, haven't seen any phone with that after that.

I was one of the lucky (or unlucky) few outside the UK launch in Oxford Street today. There were about 30 people in the queue and i was happy to get a Galaxy nexus.
I went to work and had a play and found that there is no FM Radio app!!!! Even though i've seen everywhere that it has a radio on board. I know the chipset is able but it should have an app too.
Can an other the other UK owners confirm if their's has an app or not?

That's what i had thought before seeing the spec sheet for this phone. Why are they advertising it with if it doesn't have it??

In this day and age most people just listen to mp3's or internet Radio like pandora. Would you seriously not buy a phone just coz it didnt have a Radio?
The sites that claim the Nexus has an FM Radio havent done their homework very well and are going off pre-released specs.

I dont know how much bulk a DAB chip would add to a phone it would probably make it unfeasable to add it in but you are right it would be cool and much more functional.

You guys are missing the point about poorly researched sites. The sites i'm talking about are the sites who are selling it! Misleading people and yes people still do listen to the radio. In the UK we are lucky to have some pretty good FM radio.

Can someone with S III please try using Spirit FM Unlocked, it is an app that enables FM radio on some handsets where the carrier disabled it or did not include a radio app even though the hardware is there. As pointed out, headphones need to be plugged in as the antenna. If Spirit FM does not work yet...Mike the dev might be able to make it work, provided S III has an FM radio inside. That dev works miracles so if he can enable FM on SIII on VZW I'll def. buy the Spirit FM radio app.

I downloaded the 'Sirint FM Unlocked Light' and it didn't seem to work on my rooted S3 16gb phone. It may take some settings changes but I didn't have a clue in the settings what to chance.

Try the settings changes as the page describes. Primarily the Audio Output setting.
A "No Audio" problem is common. If the app seems to tune, show signal strength and/or show RDS data, but no audio is heard, try configuring the Audio Method. Tune to a strong station and select each Audio Method in sequence until sound is heard. If no method works, your device is likely not yet supported, sorry...

I'm really hoping this can work. I'll be pissed if Samsung removed FM Radio for the 2nd time (Spring SGS1 had no FM Radio while international did).

Broadcom should be the right setting (sorry, BCM4334 is a Broadcom chip, should have mentioned that).
Did you try tuning it to a station in your area?
Negative is probably normal, I'd imagine that's measuring power in db. Negative just means below 1 Watt. Extremely negative (-120) means just noise (thermal noise). But noise is a good sign! I hope.

Don't know. But if you read the dev Mike's thread on Spirit FM you will see that if ANYONE can get FM working, it is him. He single-handedly reverse engineers the drivers for each handset. LOL he must have a lot of phones. Once he has an S III... he will let us know..

Yeah, none of the stations worked. I thought negative was odd because the Youtube video I saw of the app working did not have negative numbers.
EDIT: My Bluetooth actually turns on by itself when I change it to "Samsung Broadcom." Could that have to do with Bluetooth being on the same chip?

Yeah.
I wouldn't be surprised if the App author would have to change some things for it to work. It's probable he's interacting with the IO layer directly, in which case the IOMap could, and likely would, have changed with the different architecture.
The key thing I wanted to determine is if the BCM4334 FM Radio circuitry is even hooked up in hardware. With the move from Exynos -> Snapdragon, the board design would have changed too.
My fear is they didn't connect it up for whatever reason.
So do any phones on Verizon, Sprint or TMobile have FM tuners? This is probably disabled by the carriers if they don't. Seems like US Cellular doesn't care as a girl I work with has an HTC phone through them with FM radio. Maybe the US Cellular version of the SGS3 will have it and developers can find a way to port it from there if it's not disabled in the hardware.

The EVO LTE has FM Radio and it works. All the HTC phones on Sprint have had FM Radio (my g/f has an Evo Design 4G).

Odd, none of those pictures show a BCM4334. Or any other WiFi chip.
I know the 8960 doesn't have it built in....
Does this device have a Qualcomm combination chip for FM/BT/WiFi ?
Or is it a Broadcom BCM4330/4334 ?
Someone sent me a debug log from an unrooted SPH-L710 and I see evidence of Qualcomm FM, but there are Broadcom files too.

It's now working on my AT&T HTC OneX(L) which has the same Qualcomm SOC as the US S3, and which has Qualcomm FM.
If you are rooted, please try the June 28 test and send me debug logs with Menu->Test->Email->Logs.

When I tested the June 28th release it said "Fm: QC OEM," something I had not seen on previous releases (I'm guessing "QC" means Qualcomm).
Does anyone know how to enable the FM radio inside the G Pro (assuming ATT kept it inside). I know from past smart phones that FM radio ability can lay dormant inside the handset until software enables it. This was the case with a windows phone recently. I do know that the international model had the FM radio. I need to know if ATT removed the FM chip or disabled it with software. I have not tried yet. I was just trying to figure out everything with the phone first.
I tried it but it said that no fm radio was found... could be that I didn't have it set up right though.

Default settings are usually best.
It's more likely to work if you're rooted though.
If there is no FM driver in the kernel, an alternate kernel may help.

All recent modern phones have FM tuners built in to them. They can utilize the headphones as a receiver. The problem is AT&T has disable the tuner so we cannot use it without a special driver. @nerdyblonde what do you think could you guys pack this into Blisspop?
Spirit fm maker have told that chip is disabled by hardware electric bond.

Any way to retrieve the necessary programming?
If the FM antenna pin is grounded, as it is in most "Western world" phones now, nothing short of an extremely expensive and/or "heroic act" will fix it.
Do you know, or can you afford to hire, someone with access to thousands of dollars worth of micro-soldering and multi-layer PCB reworking equipment. And the skills to use them ?
In 4 1/2 years devoted almost exclusively to FM radio on Android, I have only ever heard of 1 successful case: A Chinese Android tablet that had an easily accessible antenna jumper. He used my app but we could never enable audio, which can be another huge hurdle.
Vast majority of devices use a PCB ground trace, that can be thick and very difficult to break. Then you'd attach a wire to a 75 cm or more long antenna/headset cable. Never mind the few coils or caps etc that need to be installed too.
TL;DR: Forget about it and get a new phone with stock FM, or a BT/FM headset like Sony MW-1.
Guys just a very quick question, does the new M9 come with a IR transmitter and receiver or only a transmitter? Is it still possible for the M9 blaster to learn new IR signals ?

I beleive its transmit only unlike the M7 which had 2 way, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Mine does not respond to signal. So it seems that it has only an IR blaster and no receiver.

Maybe a software issue? Mine certainly learned signals using the Peel remote app that came on the phone

Anymote told me their app can record on the M9, that was one of the deciding factors for me to upgrade from my M7. I have a lot of devices that aren't in any code database, and the IR receiver has become invaluable to me.
So it works for you on the M9?
I See in tha app descriptoin: RECORD REMOTES - exclusive to the HTC One due to hardware limitations in other devices.

It is possible to learn new IR signals.
Open the Peel Smart Remote app, open the remote, go to settings, choose your room and click on your device in the DEVICE-section.

This is not called learn new signal. The Device-section is a set of preset signal. What he meant was learn signals directly from the remote you have. Because sometimes the app does not have your device's brand/signal. Happened to me when i tried on my Fujisu air-conditioner and non of the signals worked.

It does work. Tested it out after I got the phone. However, I haven't seen any other apps besides the one I use that can do it, and last time I checked the app is I think $10. The way I see it, that's still less than a low end universal remote that CAN'T learn signals, but most Android users seem to be entitled jerks who think everything on the app store should be free, so whether or not you're willing to pay for it is your only limitation here.

That's anymote I believe. I also purchased it when I used it ALL THE TIME on my galaxy gear 2 watch. Its got codes for devices I never would have thought of controlling with a phone. I will also say that response from the developers was quick but they were also extremely rude and accused me of having a pirated copy somehow? I didn't have a fake copy obviously otherwise I wouldn't have contacted them for help! Haha either way we got it sorted and they found the code for a device I was having difficult with.

Search "Smart IR Remote", it's $6.99USD now. Looks like they also have a free app now as well, but I don't know how limited it is.
