[Q] Android 4.2.2 Keyboard AOSP - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey All,
Jelly Beer's 4.2.2 update worked great on my Samsung S3. However, I went out and purchased a new Note 2 GT-N7100 T-Mobile T889. I love the phone. The only problem is that I got used to the keyboard that the guys included in with Jelly Beer 4.2.2 update. In the Input settings, the keyboard is listed as Android keyboard (AOSP). That's the keyboard that I want.
The one that came with the Note 2 is Samsung's own and it's awful. Yes, yes, yes, I've installed just about every other keyboard out there. I've purchased the paid versions and all. Still, nothing does the job as well as the keyboard AOSP. I was literally going to toss the phone because I can't type on it. Then I started to use the gesture part of it, and I'm getting used to that. However, I still want the AOSP one. I've looked all over in the Play store and nothing.
Does anyone have the direct link or the actual .apk that I can download?
Would really appreciate it.

I am wanting the same thing.
yes, there is a google keyboard in the app store. but its not the same as AOSP, AOSP has the symbols as long hold on the letter keys. and you can long press the "." and slide to choose ?! and others.
I tried pulling out the aosp keyboard from carbon rom, if I just install it, it works, but no sliding to type (like swype) and if I move it to system/app and set permissions, then reset, it just force closes... so... it kind of works... but I would really like to be able to slide type.

[Q] Ginger bread Keyboard for our screen

Anyone know where to get the Gingerbread keyboard for a screen our size? I downloaded one of the apk's and its made for a 3" screen or something like that. I love this phone but hate the samsung/swype keyboards.
I downloaded "keyboard from Android 2.3" from the market and I really like it so far.

i thought the stock samsung keyboard was basically the gingerbread keyboard that came with the phone
I am pretty sure that the stock keyboard is Samsung's take on it. Just like TW, this is their keyboard.
Also I downloaded the Keyboard from android 2.3 off the market. I'm very pleased with it as well
I downloaded it as well, but when you go to install it, there is a warning that says, "...Gingerbread keyboard application may collect all the text you type, including passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal data. Continue?" I hit "Cancel." Is this normal for a keyboard from the market to ask?
I am pretty sure that is normal, of all the keyboards that i have tried in the past they all gave me a warning like that, i think that it is a built in message just for safety reasons but i have never had a problem with it
I saw that too, but I didn't worry too much about it. I don't use my phone to enter credit card numbers or anything like that.

All you have to do is long press in any text box and select "input method" when the option pops up. It will ask you to choose between sammys take on either Swype or the stock Gingerbread keyboard. Hope that helps
If it was in a rom.. Then go into the zip file and open it up.
1. Open ____.zip file. (aka your rom)
2. Go to system/apps/
3. Now look for the keyboard that your looking for.
4. Extract it.
5. Find the apk file where you extracted it and then go to your phone and place the apk file in your phones sd card or usb storage.
6. Install it and it should work.. But idk. If it force closes then its not fit for the screen and firmware
6.

[Q] Suggesting contacts when typing in phone numpad

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out.
I just got the Galaxy Nexus and upgraded to the stock 4.2. I am very happy with it but there is one small snag.
I previously had the HTC hero and it had an option to intuitively search your contacts when you are typing stuff in the dialing pad. I don't see this in the vanilla Jellybean. It's really strange as this seems to me like a must-have function and I can't think why they would have omitted it.
I searched all the options over and over and found nothing. A friend of mine has a custom jelly and it has it.
Please tell me if I am doing something wrong or if this is by design for the vanilla version.
Thanks in advance!
yes, vanilla JB doesn't have that unfortunately. but, if you are rooted you could try replacing the stock dialer with the one with T9 capabilities - you could find it floating around the board, though i haven't tried yet,
or you could use custom ROM, that's what i did.
Download an app from play store.
I personally like DW contacts.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
You can also use exdialer from play store. Great dialer with themes. No root required.

By Design who needs T9 when you have Google Now? Just swipe up from Navbar and say call Contact X. Just about every custom rom features a T9 dialer so that is worth consideration.

I need it because I'm bulgarian and naturally my contacts all have names that Google Now has a pretty hard time recognizing when said aloud.
I'm thinking about a custom rom but for now I'll go with the dialers suggested in previous posts.
I still think that this option is something that any dialer should have and find it pretty puzzling that they should omit it in the stock one. My guess would be patent issues.
Anyways, thanks to all of you for your suggestions, you've been extremely helpful!
Cheers,

Best rom with Swype?

Hey guys!
I wanted to know what you guys think is the best ROM with the Galaxy S III that gets to keep Swype with it.
I pretty much need swype and the "Beta Swype" sucks.
The stock one that comes with the phone is perfect.
Or if I could backup swype and then get it again with a custom ROM that would be perfect too

I don't think our phones come stock with the Swype app on them...You could try Ti backup or I have the JB 4.2 keyboard that I can give you which has a swipe type feature on it. Try this out. http://db.tt/gFNEwThQ

They don't come stock with name-brand Swype, but the Samsung keyboard does have a Swype alternative that comes with the phone. As for a CM10/AOSP based ROM that has this Samsung keyboard in it, I've not seen one. I have seen plenty that come with the 4.2 keyboard that Robbie mentioned that allows for the Swype. Also SwiftKey has their SwiftKey Flow beta out that's pretty slick. I'll do a bit more research and see if there's a way to flash the Samsung keyboard back on AOSP ROMs without issue. You can try Titanium Backup like Robbie suggested to backup the Samsung keyboard on a TW ROM and then restore it on a different ROM, or try one of the alternatives in the mean time
(Though as an aside, this is the first I've heard of someone preferring Samsung's Swype to the Swype beta )
Well I tried to edit my previous post, but apparently it goes flagged and wouldn't let me , so sorry for the double post.
But it looks like you should be able to flash the file in this link to get your stock Samsung keyboard back on AOSP ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28785982&postcount=504
the samsung 4.1.1 rom comes with swype built in, in addition to the samsung with swype-like capabilities. it's a bit better than the samsung keyboard.
swiftkey flow beta is nice. my preference is the vanilla 4.2 keyboard. Those with Titanium Backup can convert either of these keyboards to system apps to avoid the "non system keyboard" security messages.

[Q] Rootbox Digital Keyboard Issues - How To Resolve

Well I purchased a couple of i927r's from newegg, got them updated to ICS, rooted. Decided to go with JB rootbox as it seemed to be what I wanted, simple, effective. Just got both phones activated on ST recently, so far been liking them. But a couple issues I am having with them are primarily related to the digital keyboard. I don't really plan on using the physical keyboard much...the phone was at the right price so I guess it's there if I need to use it. But whenever I try to use the digital keyboard for mms, email, searching I hit one letter and it closes. If you keep tapping the word, the keyboard will come back up, but eventually closing again, usually a few keystrokes later.
Both phones do this, both have the most recent rootbox update via goomanager and teamwin. I would post this in the dev thread, but alas I do not have enough posts to. I am searching, but I can't seem to find an answer. I do like the stock digital keyboard, maybe I should try a different one? Anyone else have this issue? The physical keyboard is okay, but I prefer the digital one even on the smaller screen. Thanks for your time.
Have you tried different keyboards.just saying you can try Swype? Or another from the market and see if it still does it.

The default keyboard crashes when used. It is recommended that a third party keyboard is used until the bug is resolved. There's a fair number available on the play store. Avoid any that are directly based on the jelly bean keyboard

"samsung keyboard" on CFW

i've searched for a coupe hours tonight, but cant seem to find anything very helpful.
at&t note 2, loaded jellybeer 3.57. love it, except that the stock ROM's "samsung keyboard" is proving difficult to find. it was very easy for me to use, and the extra top row of numbers has become a necessity for me.
is there a way for me to get it back, without rolling back to the original ROM? or another keyboard that has both "swype" style input as well as a 5th row for static number input?
thanks for any help
Kii keyboard in the play store has what you're looking for. There are other aftermarket ones that are very similar also. I think ai keyboard does also.
I can give you some links to just the stock Samsung keyboard if you're still looking for it.
Thanks... AI keyboard does the trick
Downloaded Kii and I love it.
