Can it be saved?? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi guys,
Yesterday I purchased a Galaxy Note 2 that didn't boot for $90. Thinking, as the **** that I am, that it would be fairly easy to repair I tried to enter download mode and it doesn't do anything.
I have done all the button combinations and cannot get it in to download or recovery mode, is there any hope for it?
AT&T should replace it under warranty since it is not 1 year old, but they are being a**holes and telling me they can't repair it as it was not registered on my account.
Any ideas? Worse case scenario I sell it for parts.
Thanks!!

You could try a Jig to kick it into download. Not 100% sure they work on the note II but they do on most Samsung devices

There is always a JTAG service like what mobiletechvideos offer. They can revive almost anything.

Yes, people tend to forget that all phones (at least AT&T ones) come with a 1 year limited warranty. If there is no evidence of physical damage (huge bumps and cracks) or water damage, they will exchange it.

I was pretty sure the warranty was for the original purchaser. Seems really shady to me. . .

You know I was thinking the same thing but figured if they are allowing it then what the hell...
You know the other side to this is if they get it back and determine there was tampering with it that caused the defect he might find a 600+ charge on his bill. Just a thought.

I just felt the cost of my note 3 go up after reading the outcome...
So be it I guess...

No where does it say that it covers ONLY the first consumer, it specifies that the warranty coverage starts AFTER the first consumer purchased it and that it lasts for 1 year.
The AT&T rep was in complete Knowledge of the fact that I did not purchase the device on an AT&T store, and funny thing is that he went as far as to tell me that the phone had another 100 in warranty in case I needed anything.
I think that the fact that Samsung explicitly says First Consumer validates my argument that subsequent consumers can enjoy the warranty, obviously under the 1 year established upon purchasing the product.

I suppose its because it says first purchaser so that leaves you out.
Time to move on. I'm sure you're going to enjoy the phone. Mine is broken so I'm saving up the $240 for the repair.

Think you should letter to read contracts, if it doesn't say "the warranty covers only the first consumer" then anyone with the phone can have it serviced under warranty if it's under the one year period.
Also, and what I have stated before and you seem unable to understand, AT&T is well aware that I'm not the initial buyer, I said that to the rep at least three times in our call. How do you explain the fact that Att is exchanging the device if you say the Samsung warranty only covers the first consumer.

Manufacturers Warranty.

I have the Samsung Epic 4G for Sprint. I've had it for a month and a half, maybe 2 months now? Lets say I run into a problem or something one of these days and my phones LEGIT bricks. No download, recovery, charging, anything. I remember with T-Mobile and HTC when I had my G1, I had a one-year warranty. one time my phone bricked and they replaced it for me free of charge. Do I have that with Sprint and Samsung for my Epic 4G? Just want to make sure. Thanks.
as long as you have insurence you should have no problem i am going on my 4th phone.

also you can go online to samsung.com and register there i did will all of my phones, tv and mp3 player and the spare battery charger sorry about the first post of mine being way off ur topic well i guess not way off. but still not the answer you wanted. after it is register you can submit a repair for the phone.
I may be wrong here but I believe you could add TEP and once it has been 30 days then you would be able to get your phone replaced if you haven't already reported your problem to Sprint. I think TEP has to be on your plan for 30 days before they will let you use it. Its not like you are just trying to get a different phone because yours won't allow 1.4 overclocking. It sounds like you are having legitimate issues....so don't flame me Sprint employees about working the system

Need help making a decision...

Hey everyone.
Need personal opinions as I cannot decide for myself -.-
Recently got a warranty replacement device from T-Mobile.
It's a refurb.. -.-
My old one had a weird smudge in all camera apps as well as in the picture. Really annoying.
Well I got my refurb, it's got it's issues, 3 "ink" spots on the screen, my original had zero! I cannot undervolt by more than 25mA. My original could under volt by 150 across the board. The refurb gets very hot (approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit with normal use) my original hardly ever broke 90. And my battery life is freaking **** with this new device. (I'm guessing heat is the issue here)
I'm really ****ing upset. Excuse my language..
The decision I cannot make is this.
Do I request T-Mobile to ship my original device back to me(it's still in transit just dropped it off today), and either 1 deal with the camera smudge, or 2 take apart both devices and swap the camera modules?
I looked all over YouTube, I cannot find anyone saying there is a warranty sticker covering any screws.
Does anyone know if they can tell if the device was disassembled? I have professional tools so I won't leave markings behind.
Simply put, I hate this "new" device.
I don't understand why companies give refurbished devices for warranty when I am paying full price for a brand new device that should last at least a year. It's not my fault something happened that was out of my control..
Thanks for putting up with my rant lol.

Wow, that's though. I send in my Device to samsung for a fix, and they fixed it with a "replaced PBA" comment, but I saw some people say they just send another one. Hopefully it's not a refurbished. I doubt they will be able to cancel the shipping, but if they an, most definitely swap the camera modules. Having those problems on the refurbished sucks. I could have fixed mine but I sent it in hoping Id get another one which didn't die after 2.5Hrs screen on time and 12 hours running time. Switch out the cameras if possible. I myself, if I get a bad one on saturday, I'll hate my descision but Im going to go for the 16GB nexus 4. Hate the limited storage and the on screen buttons that get in the way, but heck I'm not going to live 2 years with a faulty device

I can understand your frustration With my experience working foe Tmobile and having done countless warranty exchanges since the my touch, they will not return your original device. Unless you cannsomehowncontact ups and have them stop transit and send it back and return the one they sent you. You should contact tkobile again and tell them what happened. Afaik they will not return it back to you. When it gets to their processing center it'll get factory reset, processed and possibly put back up as a refurb if it passes all their tests. You do have the option of requesting another warranty exchange, possibly going to retention this time or a higher tier of tech support.

Thanks for the reply. I was wishing to talk to someone who works for them. I really hate the newer one they sent me. No matter what ROM, kernel, modem it lasts at most about 8 hours 2 hours screen on time. And the phone gets almost too hot to hold . If I didn't have an otter box, i prolly wouldn't be able to hold it. And the worst part is is the freaking screen spots. I get its a known issue with the super amoled but Christ the phones not been released even a year! Not to mention the o e I paid full price for was/is flawless despite the camera smudge.
I'm calling them today after work and am not going to be as nice as I usually am.. I hate this ****..

I'd do that too. With the sgs2 I went through five warranty exchanges. They wouldn't offer me anything else because apparently it was the best phone they had even though they had the presale of the sgs3 going on when this happened. That's what drove me to sell it and buy a gnex. Long story short in back here.

I know it doesn't help your current situation, but for your next phone I suggest you check out Square Trade. They actually treat you right & are fair and honest. Only thing is they don't cover theft. But I know they WON'T send you back a freaking refurbished phone. I used them once and they were great.

S6 Edge Plus Cracked By Itself!?

So I got my brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus from T-Mobile about 2 and a half days ago now. On the beginning of the second day I woke up to notice (With the phone sitting on my nightstand charging like any other phone I've had) that the phone was very very hot to the touch. Upon further inspection after I unplugged it I noticed (To my horror! 0.0) There is now a giant running crack along the left side of the phone. Being in a case from day 1 and NEVER being dropped, this is most definitely NOT accidental damage by any means. (At least in my opinion ). Since the incident I've contacted Samsung and they've provided me with a shipping label to have them take a look at the device. Was really hoping for this to be my best phone yet (Since the Note 4 ). Let's all hope Samsung pulls through and helps me out in this situation! I'll post pictures below and keep you guys updated on what's happening as far as the phone goes! :highfive:

It is certainly possible that the battery swelled like the nexus 6 batteries did. The pressure could have cracked the glass but it is likely that samsung would deny that claim. I would document everything and even charge it up again and record the temperature of the phone when it's over heating. Try to remember we all had one post once. I discovered XDA when I was having problems with my LG thrill.

I will definitely look to get a replacement. But what about those of us that spent money on say a tempered glass screen protector? Cant just take it off and put it on a new phone. It's pretty much trash.
Yeah good question. I have a Zagg on mine. I think they have warranty however.

Looks that way. Verizon will act like they don't know about it if we call today though lol.
I am surprised the official release did not tell everyone to stop using the device immediately. Playing the odds with people's homes and lives is criminal negligence. Any delay by the carriers to notify customers is as well. Verizon playing dumb is risky. I have yet to be notified directly.
It's not like Verizon can claim they don't have my phone number...lol
My phone toom a week to set it up how i want. I wonder if we will get the same phone with.current settings or are they going to send us an entirely new phone? Also if they do send us our current phones back, then what about our warrenties on water resistance if they open the phonr up? And yes what about our glass protectors and the full body coverage i have on mine?

I thought we all did, but now that you mention it i guess we dont actually have a warrenty. What i really meant was will it still be water resistant after we get it back? I remember reading somewhere in the s7 that after the screen ir battery is replaced even by samaung that its no longer water resistant or ubder warrenty or whatever.

In short, yes. An anonymous Samsung rep. stated to a South Korean news agency that < .01% of phones are affected.
Since they are all being recalled, this tells me that they can't definitely trace the bad battery back to a batch, date code, etc. You have to pull them all if you can't, and that is what Samsung is doing.
The fact that they are moving so quickly on this issue tells me it's definitely safety related. I imagine the Samsung production lines are working overtime to make new devices, and that somewhere [Samsung quality, the Samsung battery maker, etc.], heads will roll over this one.

I bought my note 7 from ebay, so what will be my options to get replacement ? not sure who is the original seller ( samsung or verizon or bestbuy _

I hope I don't need my Spen or the brick and cable because they disappeared mysteriously. Verizon wants $50 to furnish another Spen. Maybe Samsung should address the pen problems as well,

If you go to Samsung's website, you can file a repair thing for the spen. Just had to do it yesterday. The clicker part only halfway works so it gets stuck. All you got to do is print the label and send it in. I ordered one for $33 off of. Samusungs Amazon page, that I'll return once I get the new one. Figure it'll work in the meantime.
Do you think this is an out for everyone who cracked their screens?
My guess as to how they will handle the actual recall is that Samsung, or the carrier that you bought your phone from will send you a new phone, and you send the old phone back in the box that the new phone came in (they will have the return shipping labels in the box). Of course you will get an email stating the exact procedures prior to them sending the new phones. This is the only way I can think of so that the user is not without a phone during the recall. Just my opinion!

Well i bought from Ebay seller, not sure how my return is handled

Samsung to start selling refurbished Note7s in India and Vietnam

Yes, the ones that used to be ours, only with smaller batteries and new housing. Frankly it pi** es me off.
Samsung better make sure it safely deleted previous user data or they will have new privacy and personal data related law suits on their hands.
Citation? We seen this sort of claim before.

Sorry, here you go. It is all over Google.
There is a lot of "apparently" and "reports say" in those articles. In any case, to sell in those markets they would have to replace the ROM, so I don't think there is much to worry about. Besides, who turns in a phone without wiping it thoroughly?

I think average user thinks factory reset will take care of it all, but it won't.
And from June.... May as well wait for the 8

I'm using the Note 5 and it's starting to show its age. I might consider this until the Note 8ncomes out if the price is reasonable, I'm hoping under 500.

Seeings I'm still on my note7 all I'm curious about is if I might wind up with Nougat at some point. This is incredibly harsh on everybody who gave them up. We forced you to give your phone to us and now we're giving them away cheap to somebody else. Whole thing from start to finish has been so **** on note7 owners.

Why? Everyone got a full refund. If they've solved the problem this time, it seems pretty sensible to me to recover some costs

Hopefully those are new "refurbished" devices they had in stock, not a refurbished phone from Bob who keyed up his screen and got pizza grease inside the speaker grill.
Anyhow, this article states otherwise:

Thank you! I too have now found a few rebutal articles and feel a bit better. Even if I got a refund, that felt like my phone was taken away to be sold to someone else to enjoy while I have to put up with my dated Note4 (but I won't for too long, life is too short to be dealing with freezes, reboots etc).

Naturally, not disputing that. This is early days but at least e-mail everyone who returned the phone and offer them a handset too.
Maybe Samsung customers could be contact directly but I wouldn't trust car phone warehouse to catch pneumonia in the artic let along follow up to note 7 customers lol
Not feeling better anymore. They are doing it! Liars...

I'd rather a refurbished Note 7 that this S8 'Bixby' nonsense.
