As per the typical trend we have a non user removable battery why they could not make the back cover removable is beyond me apparently they don't like making tablets able to be serviced. This is one patent I wish Apple could have the non removable batteries of the nexus 4 and most tablets.
With android there is a hardware override built into the power switch hold it for 30 or 60 seconds it should turn the tablet off even while in a boot loop

The only tablet I have seen with removable battery was old model archos. Latest models already have non removable. I think its something to do with size of battery against the overall tablet.

Also used to make the tablet thinner and when your battery stops holding a charge you need to break it getting it open and have to buy a new one.

[POLL] What size battery would make you give up removability?

Some people are OK with sealed phones, others can't live without removable batteries. It seems to be a repeat theme across this forum and others, one which people are (seemingly) pretty strongly divided on. The tradeoffs of having a sealed device are generally things like battery, thickness and build quality.
I personally couldn't care less about the battery being sealed inside my device. I only own 1 battery and I don't see any other reason for me to be in there. I'd happily keep the device the same thickness and grab a few extra mAh by having it sealed.
So I want to know, what size battery would it take for you to put up with it being sealed inside the device? I've put up a poll and I'd be interested in knowing what you answered and your rationale.
(Poll based on 1750mAh being the base GSM size. Feel free to answer the poll as if the size were 100mAh more if you have a CDMA model.)
2500mah. And only if the battery was still relatively easy for the average user to swap out anyways. Tamper proof screws and or unibody design to inhibit changing battery then no dice.
...of the people, by the people, for the people...
Batteries have a limited lifetime. They start to degrade significantly after 2 years or so. I know the average xda user changes phone every 3 months after returning it 10 times because he lost his 4G connection and the screen colors are slightly wrong but being able to use a phone past its planned obsolescence lifetime is a good thing.

It must be removable. I'm not relying on some fancy unknown key combination to restart my phone when it happens to freeze. The only "plus" for me is the battery case and battery NOT falling out if I drop the phone.

Hi,
I totally agree in both cases ,but since we must choose...removable for me!
I really lost my battery once on an old Nokia when it is dropped on the floor, looking almost everywhere, under the sofa, armchair,TV stand,etc...the battery was in the kitchen under the stove...,slid over 2 meters on the floor
Voted!
2500 for me but only if non-removable also means waterproof.
If you saw how my wife's old phone's battery became swollen.... you would never want one built in. I too am of the camp of having the ability to kill power via removal of power.
And then there is the article from 2006 saying the FBI can listen in even when your phone is off. Call me paranoid but its still scary.

3300mah or at least double what it currently is. When the battery is built in there is usually a hard reset combination built into a phone. I feel like that should be standard with all phones anyway since the GN is a pain in the ass to remove the back cover and then put it back again.
I have the official 2000mAh in my gsm GNex. I wouldn't be upset if that was non-removable, I never remove it. If something with more capacity was the same size I'd take that obviously. No bigger physically is mandatory.

Removable. When I go on my bike trips, I use Slacker and GPS navigation. I use a battery going to my destination and one coming back. Without removable, I'd have to use an external battery charger. Not my cup of tea.

Well, when you have a sealed device you either have a reset button, a key combo, or can hold down the power button to reset. Don't think this is something to worry about. They've thought of this.

Yeah, it seems people are overlooking that you can hold the power button for 10 seconds and it'll reboot the phone. You really don't need to ever remove the battery. But to OP, I think at least a 2500 mah would be ideal

I'd own the RAZR Maxx right now if it wasn't for the amazing Dev support on the Nexus and AOSP support. Removable vs. Nonremovable means nothing to me.

If you need a bigger battery for the Galaxy Nexus, then
1. you're not rooted.
2. you don't know android.
3. you can't read threads.
If this makes no sense, ask questions. Everywhere. Ask questions all day long. Don't be an idiot, ask the right question for the right answer.
Know what you're getting into. our phones suck battery.
If reading, kernels, and rooting does nothing, then walk away.
A removable battery is a must for me. I ride my dual sport motorcycle way into the everglades on a weekly basis, using gps to guide me and record my track. I also need to be able to to carry extra batteries in case I break down out there and have to walk away from the bike. With my photon I carry a charger and a spare stock battery along with the 3500 ma that is on the phone.

Wouldn't have expected a snarky comment from a moderator....
That said, I've never owned a non-removable battery device to even know that. I know on my current phones, that doesn't work. When something hard locks, its battery pull time.

[REVIEW] Samsung Galaxy S3 Extra Battery Kit

Ok so i have had my galaxy s3 for nearly a week now and today i have just received the extra battery kit so i thought i would give a quick review.
Its an official product and comes with the original galaxy s3 battery and a handy stand that holds the phone and charges the battery in a compartment towards the back on the stand.
The stand is piano black finish, which is slightly transperant to allow the LED notification to show though. The LED has three different states:
Red - Charging
Green - Charged
Orange - Error
All that comes in the box is the stand and battery there is no USB charging cable, and the stand itself does not charge the phone, it only charges the spare battery. The stand is very good when you have the phone in landscape but if you want to use the stand to hold the phone in portrait mode it can be a bit fiddle, i found that if you lift the cover where the for the battery compartment the phone sits well in portrait mode and this does not affect charging at all.
see the rest of the photos to get a better look
Pros:
Having two batteries for a smart phone is a must if the phone allows you so to get a handy product like this where you can charge one battery while using the other is a big PLUS
The Battery that comes with it is the exact same as the one that came with the phone which is a very good 2100mAh battery
The stand is great for landscape view
Very stylish
Cons:
You can only charge the spare battery not the battery in the phone itself
Does not come with a USB charging cable
Piano black finish is terrible for finger marks
Overall a great accessory and i would advise any galaxy s3 owner to buy
COST as of Fri 22nd June 2012 on amazon UK is £26.45
Thanks for having a read if you have any questions just let ask, and give me a thanks if this has helped you decide to buy the product or not CHEERS
I didnt see a price mentioned?
sorry my friend it is currently £26.45 on the amazon UK site, what do you think would be tempted to buy it
Some more photos for yous to have a look at as you can see in the first one the finger prints show up very messy on the piano black finish

could you please check to see if NFC works with the extra battery in?
You could try out credit/debit cards with contactless payment built in or a public transport payment card like an oyster?
thanks

I am thinking of buying this but my battery says "Near Field Communication" below the SAMSUNG logo while from your pictures, it seems like the extra battery doesn't say this.
If it doesn't have an NFC antenna in it, I can't see much point in spending this much on an official battery.
EDIT
I just had a look at my battery and on the other side, it looks like yours in your picture. I guess I will get this after all

if you get the kit let me know what you think
just got the camera mod fixed on my rom with a new update so here is a picture of the NFC info
Hmm, its a bit rubbish that it doesnt charge the phone.
You would have to charge the spare battery and then swap them over.
Or remove the dock cable then charge the phone
Why Samsung?
its not bad but the new charger and usb sync dock thats coming out next week from samsung would be even better, if not then why not get both! battery kit and dock together would be awesome. or even the dock and some hyperion kits!
Does this work with usb cable and car charger?
Will the kit hold a phone with a tpu case?

I just received this minutes after posting in this thread.
Was aware of the disability that phone can't be charged at the same time as the battery.
Was NOT aware this kit does not come with its own charging cable! This is a major points deduction.
Overall C$35 shipped to my home in 3 business days is not a bad deal for OEM goodness.
Hi, the stand drains your battery if you leave it inside without the charging cable?
That's odd. I ordered mine from amazon here is the US and mine came with a usb charging cable. Genuine Samsung

[Q] Massive battery drain on 4.4.2

Ever since I have installed KitKat 4.4.2 on this tablet, the battery life just simply got f****d up. On the first charge the tablet could easily go for a day with medium to high usage. By every next charging time, the onscreen time goes down and down, as for now...well I wouldn't call 1.5hrs of gaming (Asphalt 7, Talking Tom) or 3-4hrs of browsing a good thing. What just happened right now, simply sucks. I left the tablet at home for about 8hrs and used the tablet only for about 30minutes as battery was drained from about 97% to 55%..
Have anyone got a fix for this? The tablet sometimes even gets pretty hot overtime too. Really sad to see after having to deal with bricked tablet, and looong and neverending, failing firmware instalations. Not happy about my tablet anymore.
I have stock KitKat 4.4.2 ROM - XEO (Poland firmware), not rooted yet, but it was before on previous versions of Android.
Sorry that there are no images as I currently cannot post them here. My apologies...
@Katflakes, I had a similar problem. My battery life had deteriorated to the point I was getting less than 30 min from full charge to low battery warning.. What fixed it for me was prying off the back cover, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. This somehow recalibrates the battery. I now get my usual 3 to 5 days of battery life depending on how much I use it.

Can I actually get the back cover off? Never thought I could do that with my tablet. I probably need some special tools for it, am I right? :/

The easiest way is to remove the s-pen, insert a ballpoint pen partially into the slot and gently pop that corner loose. Then you can work your way around the cover with a butter knife. Be careful near the corners. Ideally you should use a plastic prying tool which is part of an electronics repair kit, but you should be able to manage without it.

Done! Definitely seeing an improvement now. But its very hard to insert or detach the S-Pen as it barely fits in the slot now... :/

Sounds as though the cover may not be attached properly, or something may have gotten into the slot. I'd remove the cover again, inspect the slot, reattach it making sure each of the plastic tabs holding the cover to the chassis are properly snapped in place.

I never got anywhere close to 3 days off any battery I ever had in any device but I did replace my Note 8 battery with one from a company called New Power 99. Costs about $65 US, fairly easy to do (if nerve-wracking) and now, instead of 3 hours, I get all day from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. That's not constant use but running, wifi on, and using it periodical for work during the day and reading or surfing in the evening. WAY better!

Have a question about replacing Note 7 battery

I was wondering if someone had replaced the note 7 battery with the s8 one and if the connectors were the same or do you have to solder on the note 7 connector like with the s7 battery. Also would the s8 battery fit in the note 7. I am looking for a no soldering solution as my soldering iron broke and my note 7 battery died which will refuse to turn on even when plugged in. If you know where to buy a replcement note fe battery that will help me as well. thanks in the future to all those who contribute to helping me.
Edit
Bought a Note 7 battery off ebay but then power and volume stopped working. They let me return it still and got a note 8 with a new installment plan, to have the same success show them the Note 7 recall page on the sprint website even if they keep trying to refer you to samsung. I got the $100 off as well so it is worth it in my opinion note 8 is sick, only thing I hate is youtube keeps cropping to fit not a lot of videos have stretch and no xposed yet.
Tried battery and it's wider unfortunately so I can say for certain that won't fit. Also the lead is different shape so even if battery did fit it would need soldering.

Note 7 Successful Life! Now what?

I kept my Note 7 from Verizon. I disabled Samsung's update app through ADB which prevented ALL of the device killing updates from ever even appearing. This is the second version Note 7, with the green battery charging icon, that I obtained after I brought my first Note 7 back for the first recall.
I have since used my Note 7 ever since, with zero problems of any kind. And I just ordered my new Note 9 to replace it, 512GB and 8GB RAM. Fantastic journey!!!
I'm going to keep m Note 7 and was wondering if any definitive solutions for replacing the battery ever emerged? My Note 7 is at the point where it's battery's capacity has simply diminished from normal use. I have every single battery sucking feature always enabled - high accuracy location scanning, etc. I get a few hours out of a full charge before I'm getting low, plus I get precipitous zeroing in cold weather. Like, the phone shuts off if I leave it in the front pocket of my jacket when downhill skiing, when the battery gets below 40%.
So, I *would* like to replace the battery at some point, for that issue. Will an FE battery just go into it as a direct replacement? I did buy an S8+ battery at one point, after reading that it looked like it would fit/work, but I never got around to trying it. And tonight I just read later that it supposedly won't fit/work. So, I was rewarded for my inaction, in that case

My N930V is simply killing me. Interface lags are constant with lots of crashes.
I believe to have the first version without green battery, maybe it's software is not as good as second one.
Can't find any solutions for this on the web unfortunately.

John, I have a little insight on replacing your battery. Luckily, all Samsungs S6 and up have the same connector. If you are able to find a battery that fits, whether it be an S7 or S7 edge battery, you might be able to do this repair yourself! I haven't had the opportunity to attempt this repair, as I live in a small town, and the device is almost unheard of nowadays. I work at a mobile repair shop with a national branch, known as CPR Cell Phone Repair. I'll do a little more research on this, and give you a reply with an answer on whether or not it's possible.
The battery protection circuit has been *unofficially* identified as the culprit of these devices. So in that case, use a different device's battery, right?
Thanks,
-Mark

You know, I bought a new battery for an S7 edge for it, but never tried installing it because I did some more reading and thought I saw something that made me think it wouldn't fit or have the correct connector or something.
But, I still have the phone and the new battery and it would be way cool to still do the replacement! The original battery is just really tired and beat. It was diwn to holding maybe a third of its original charge capacity. It would be like having a new phone again if I got a working replacement battery into it!! ??
