[Q][ROM][DEV] Ubuntu Touch 13.x for "Seranoltexx" phones? - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will a port of the Ubuntu 13.x Touch rom (Nexus/Ubuntu Edge) ever be in the future?
I mean are there any developers around willing to port it?
Ubuntu Touch seems really cool and fast with functions to use your phone as a full desktop pc.
I would really love to see this working on S4 Mini (hoping 1.5GB Ram is enough to run Ubuntu in first place)
I hope Acro68 will look at it after his CM project.

Ignore this post.

Anybody? I would gladly help if somebody is willing to try this

another os other than andy??

hey dudes are there some another os for wild fire? i mean some thing like linux, windows, bada, openmoko , palm os, web os etc? it will be a hard task .i know. but a little bit enthusiasm makes it all. i have a pda- palmTX. with 313mhz arm processor and about 128mb ram( Dnt remb exactly). runs on palm os v5. the last palm os before palm Inc switched to webos. i searched for modes and found Linux kernal and rom for it. installed it. worked on it. ahh thatz an old story. also i know that there is an open source hardware and software( think itz the worlds first one. born long time befor our dear andy) called open moko. ( google it) it an open source hardwared and softwared smartphone. based on Linux ( remember so) for arm powered devices. so why cant we think to port it to wildfire? wildfire have above average requirements in terms of hardware for open moko. itz a wonderfull os just like android( not that much, but some close). and itz a good thing to show others , also good thing to watch others getting wondered. cant we think about it. ?

Don't know if this is any good to you, I was looking at it a few days ago but I only have a 2gb card atm with 512mb partition, after a nandroid and a few other things I can't live without I never have much space left.
Search the market for an app called Linux installer, and I'd love to hear if it works or not.

So great! Looking for an official release
It looks like the Desire is just at the minimum requirements for this, except that the Desire's Snapdragon system-on-chip is ARM Coretex A8 not the "required" A9.
I was under the impression it needs at least two cores, no?

You miss read it. Its not the mobile os that needs dual-core its the docking thing where it runs the full desktop.

well why not we have other choices for os on our phones ? i think it could be a new era on phones os and who knows even more ...
I think it will be awesome to choose our OS on the phone. This wil be perfect on phone that has no buttons - like galaxy nexus or nexus 4. The beta will be released in 3 or 4 weeks I think. I`ll try to port it but I'll need help
Edit: Read the official page. The beta for the nexus will be ready at 13 january ))
Yes we can hope that with both Ubuntu and Firefox OS will let us control our devices. The future of smartphone OS look bright  By the way I don't think canonical is planning to port ubuntu for old or low-range phones for now. Especially since they might encounter performance issues. The community might have to work hard to port it on devices like the HTC Desire

me too !!
i hope Ubuntu OS and Firefox OS can run in HTC DESIRE .....
htc desire only single core
i think ubuntu os phone can't support for desire ....
desire just single core...:crying:
It looks to me that our processor may just fall under the requirements, also it says the device will require 4gb internal storage. That may be a problem, as long as the system files are less than 250mb it should be possible using some sort of reverse mount with sd card
interesting. But I also suppose that our three years old smartphone won't be "fast" enough for it

Ubuntu for phone image

There will likely be a image released for the galaxy nexus in late February. Meaning port attempts should swiftly follow .

Waiting for this one...
The Ubuntu UI looks amazing
Cant wait to see this one!

even if the image will be available for galaxy nexus, it will still need a great deal of work to make this working for our HOV.
you can only imagine the difference between galaxy nexus and hov, first of all they are not even on the same specs not to mention the fact that the hov has a way smaller screen than gnex.
so we will need to work on a source tree for hov in order to make ubuntu os bootable and that's a hard work to do.

Hmm. I don't think I said it would be easy. But I haven't seen anything that makes it impossible.

[INFO] Ubuntu Touch OS

It seems that developers are hard at work porting Ubuntu Touch to 20+ smartphones and tablets.
The Galaxy S series is included in that "list" although it's unclear if the U.S variants are included.
Keep on the look out for Ubuntu Touch coming to a Android device near you!

Here is the devices in the works list if anyone is interested.

Art least with an international version in the works, it should be a easy port to the E4GT. Hopefully.
I'm really surprised no one has attempted this yet. Because I'm seeing CDMA phones running it.
My only guess is our kernel setup is what's stopping it.

This would definitely be interesting, I'll have to look into this...
would like to see this happen, as i really want an alternative...even if its just to play with
ubuntu is a great operating system for a beginner

[Q] Ubuntu 13.10 on our phone?

Just curious because I've seen that the latest version of Ubuntu has become available for the first time on smartphones starting with the Nexus 4, given the similarities between the two, and obvious differences, I'm wondering if anyone has any plans to try to port this to our LGOG?
If you're taking about Ubuntu touch then there are people working on it. If you're talking about the full distro then you can install... I believe it's called complete Linux installer and it will allow you to download and install full desktop distros to your phone

i believe the main problem is there is no cdma support for it. get on this thread and you should learn some more about it
