[Review] Official Asus Premium Cover w/pics - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

So received my official Asus Premium Cover from Amazon today and I must say it has been better than expected. I paid $42 w/free shipping so on the pricier side, but if your looking for professional look and feel this has you covered. Case if extremely slim and lightweight. Buttons have a cover over them which at first I wasn't sure about but they really don't hinder the experience and dare I say add some "flare" to the overall look. The feel is very premium. I'd say the back feels almost the same as the back of the tablet itself, maybe just a tad smoother. The inside of the cover is also very premium and in no way feels cheap. The only negative, no auto unlock. I'm assuming they didn't use a magnet to keep everything slim, but who knows. It doesn't bother me much. Overall I'm very satisfied with the purchase and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true "stock" case that feels very well made and doesn't add bulk to the overall size. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Edit: Forgot to mention this works fine with my wireless charger

Yes I know I was being sarcastic. Someone posted in the cases and covers thread warning not to buy one because his didn't fit.

No auto unlock/lock because they don't own the patent. I have the same case, you beat me to the review. There's alot of negative reviews but i think people were expecting alot more when they paid 40+ dollars for it. Mine fits perfectly as well, so i dont get where people were saying it falls off.

Both Moko and Poetic have a slim case that is nearly identical and costs far less than the official case. Can't really see the advantage of the official case other than to show you have the official one. LOL.
I currently have the Poetic slimline and have the Moko slim on the way. And both came in at less than half the price of a single official case. Just saying...

Agreed. Got my Poetic in today and it works perfectly, and only cost $5.95. And it has auto sleep/awake function, which is a must. Really love it.

How good would this protect it from minor drops? ( I'm 6ft 5in, so it would have to protect fit from about 5 ft drops.)

Which amazon seller did you get it from?

Are the clips and back of the case hard plastic or TPU/rubber? The clips around the corners don't have much purchase on the tablet... wondering how secure the tablet is in the case.
Thanks!

can it wake N7 after sleep for few minutes/hours?
because i found that many cover can sleep/wake instantly, but if after a period of time, cannot wake the device.
thanks

That's not true, and if that happens, it's a faulty unit. Wake/sleep works at anytime, its just a magnet, seconds, minutes, hours, days, whatever.

you mean the cover or Nexus 7 ?
but very strange that it works anytime if wifi is ON or usb power plugged .

you are wrong my friend, it doesn't mean a faulty unit. Many people have been experiencing when the device's wifi is turned on but not connected to a network, there would normally be a 10-15 seconds delay when u flip the cover of the case open.

Lots of reviews on Amazon claiming the tablet doesn't stay in the case because only 3 of the 4 corners snap in well...is that true OP? Thanks for the review

Another question: how loose is the cover? Since it doesn't use a magnet I'm afraid that the flap will fly open every time you want to carry it around...

Zenus 'Prestige' Carbon Series Stand / Case

Well, I just got this case today. It comes in black or white. I got the black one. I'd post pictures but my grandkids are here and I won't be able to do it until tomorrow.
My mini-review:
Pros:
Fit and Finish is beautiful.
Very light. Case and Tablet weighs 1lb 12.6ozs
Very thin.
(Added) The edges of the screen are not covered. Like the Samsung case there are 3 clips to hold the TAB. I don't like the way most ofthe other cases cover the border of the screen with "PU" or leather.
Cons:
TOO EXPENSIVE. It may be "worth" $85 + shipping for it's quality but for what it is it's just too much money
TOO EXPENSIVE
"Stand" is only a single position and the way it works is you have to unsnap the bottom half of the tablet from it's perfectly fitting snap on cover and rest it on the "latch" that holds locks the case closed. I have to believe that eventually the snaps will lose their tension and not tightly hold the Tablet. May be wrong there but it seems to be.
Must be opened to access USB connection.
TOO EXPENSIVE
I have six months to return it so I'm not worried.

I looked at that case but since it was seemingly 2x as thick and made from "synthetic leather" (either plastic or "PU" not sure which) I chose the other. I probably would prefer the Samsung over that one since the Samsung is very thin and lite. Also don't like the "hand strap" since it reminds me of a ping-pong paddle.
However if the quality is just as good it would be a good alternate choice for those who don't mind the thicker vinyl case.
Cut the price in half and I'll buy.

I sent it back for a refund. Too expensive and required "unsnapping" the bottom 2 clips holding the TAB to "stand" it.
Well made and excellent fit and VERY light .... but not worth it to me.

Aw, that's kinda upsetting. It sure looked like a nice case, and for some reason I'm a sucker for carbon fiber styling, but it's sad to hear about those downsides.
If nothing else, thanks for being a guinea pig on that! It was hard enough to justify that kind of money on a simple case even if it was perfect. The USB slot issue is the killer, really.

I purchased through Amazon. I went into my Amazon account and sent the "seller" a message, They have a 14 day return policy. You can also contact them through their website but if you purchased from Amazon you should email through there as Amazon keeps records of the contacts and you are protected.

Then you will be waiting for a long time because as I stated in the previous message I sent it back.
BTW, it was NOT carbon fiber, it's a vinyl fabric.

Same here, I have not found any cases I would think are worth buying compared to the official one.

Case with Kickstand Recommendations?

As someone who used the kickstand on my Evo OG a lot, I must have a case that includes a kickstand. Does anyone have any particular recommendations? I have used Seidio car mounts in the past, and they were very high quality and durable, but a bit on the heavy side (trade-off for durable I guess).
Anyway, I see two cases I'm interested in.

Oh man, I am so used to ordering everything from Amazon (or others) that I didn't even consider going to a store to get a case. I guess I was thinking that since the stores don't have the phones yet, they wouldn't have the accessories. Stupid thought process on my part. I'll have to go to a local store and see if I can find the case-mate.

How is it bulky? Its like 2 inches long and one inch wide. And doesn't add much thickness to the phone at all. When your fingers are in it, you won't worry about dropping it at all. I can easily reach all 4 corners of my screen with this baby. watch Qbkings review of it

I had it on my epic touch for a few weeks (before I quickly got rid of it) and it never felt like it was getting loose. It uses the 3m double sided tape, the same tape on the wall hooks that 3m makes that are rated to hold 5 lbs.
Another thing I like is that it lifts the phone speaker of the surface more so it doesn't dampen the ringer. That is partially annoying cause it doesn't lay flat on a surface if your using your phone laying down, but isn't a huge deal.

Cases & Covers

Picked up my N7 this morning as soon as Best Buy opened, but was a little disappointed in that I didn't find any custom cases/covers for it. I am walking around with it like it's a 1 day old infant. I know Asus is making two types of cases/covers this time around, but I can't find them anywhere to buy.

droid-life had some amazon links to a case and a screen protector, but the links were dead when I got there.
I saw a case or two listed on amazon.com when I searched for "Nexus 7 2013 case" but I have no idea how reputable the sellers are.
found some more pictures and descriptions on asus website. but I can't link yet.
I REALLY hope these cases hit the street on the 31st with no shortage of supply like the old N7.

Amazon has them listed on the Nexus 7 product page, but the links 404 when you click them. Hopefully they put the case and screen protector up for sale soon.

I have the Portenzo Alano with Intellistand for my OG N7. The case is spectacular. It looks amazing, and I get compliments just about every time someone new sees it. The functionality is also outstanding. The Intellistand is an essential feature, and my device has never slipped out of the grips. I also travel a ton, and I just toss my Nexus into the front pocket of my backpack. My device still looks as good as new.
I would definitely be ordering one for me new Nexus (still debating) except the one drawback is that it adds a fair amount of thickness to the device. In the case, you're looking at about 2.5 times the thickness of a naked Nexus. That might not matter for most people. I have always kept my devices naked (naked N4 is sitting on the desk in front of me), though, and it's been the one thing that's kind of irked me about this case. I have no other complaints though.

I am definitely getting a Portenzo for my N7! Looks like they opened up pre-orders with a nice little discount. Although, no actual images of a new nexus 7 in a case. I imagine the cam hole will be different. They posted a pic on their FB page showing work being done to make the new case.
I was actually surprised to see the N7 in stock for how late in the day I stopped in at BestBuy. Snagged one of the last two available, no accessories for it at all.

Those Portenzo cases look like Dodocases, which are made of very high quality materials but do jack when it comes to standing up the device. How does the Portenzo keep the device up?
Case without a front cover?
For the original Nexus 7, I have a back-only case (this one, if I'm not mistaken - http://www.i-blason.com/ninja-x-style-tpu-softgel-for-google-nexus-7.html ) and I absolutely love it, because I can then treat the N7 like an oversized phone.
I've been searching, but because there isn't a clear name (Nexus 7(2013), New Nexus 7, Nexus 7 2, Nexus 7-B), I can't seem to find anything.
TY in advance!

With the Alano case, if you get the Intellistand option, the binding edge of the frame is held by two strong magnets on the corners instead of being permanently attached. Since the cover is a flexible leather, you can pull the magnets apart, and it creates a wedge like this:
Very cool, thanks!

Review Cruzerlite TPU cases.

Here is my review of the Cuzerlite Experience Cover and Androidified A2 cover for the Nexus 7 FHD (2013)
I have a wood skin on my Nexus 7 from stickerboy . net and it does not interfere with the Cruzerlite cases.
The Androidified A2
The A2 for the nexus is exactly what we have come to expect from Cruzerlite a great TPU case at a great price. The A2 sells for $17.95 and is available in 11 colors. The Case fits the nexus like a glove all the port and buttons are easily to use. I like the different finished on the case the Android is a soft touch finish and surrounding it is glossy. The A2 adds some good grip to the sides of the Nexus and In my testing I did not have any problems using different headphones or charging cables. I have a inductive charging plate and the cover does not interfere with the inductive charging feature of the nexus 7.

The Experience Cover
The Exp. is the perfect case for the stock android user. If you like the icons used by a stock android ROM then this case is perfect for you. The cover has a nice soft touch finish accept for the icon they are transparent. I like the added grip to the Nexus 7 and the fact that the case is very thin a light. In my testing I did not have any problems using different headphones or charging cables. I have a inductive charging plate and the cover does not interfere with the inductive charging feature of the nexus 7.

I think all the preorders got something extra in there shipmnet.
I ordered one of the SLine ones for $2 on Amazon. It "shipped" yesterday but with no tracking and is not due to arrive for almost a month. I'm guessing it's because it's a preorder and they don't have them in yet, but it would have been nice to know that. Not to mention now that they've marked it as shipped (though I highly doubt it was) I can't cancel the order.

This case looks pretty slick! I'm looking for something minimal that also isn't useless. Thanks for the review. Hope they ship to Canada!

If the XDA case was TPU like the other XDA cases I would be all over it... I feel like polycarbonate is more slippery than the naked device back

I ordered one when they first went up for sale, before Prime was an option. It has said shipped for a while now, but I still haven't gotten it. I'll be really annoyed if it comes after the the date I could have gotten it using my Prime...

Welp. I could have had my case by now if I knew Prime would be an option on Amazon so soon. I want to take my tablet with me places! It's not leaving the house until it's in a case, lol.
WOW, these cases seem good. Nice pic.

New official Google flip case

Google just announced they're releasing their own case for the new Nexus 7...but I don't see anywhere if it's actually a smart cover. It doesn't look too bad, but I wish it came in more color options.

$50 seems steep. I have the poetic case for $6. After a month it is already showing signs of wear so I guess you get what you pay for.

My poetic slimline (replacement) has already broken. The magnet came unglued, and the edge piece of plastic next to the same magnet completely broke off
I ordered a different case the other day, saw this and thought, "Oh crap." But looking at it closer, there isn't much there for $50. More like for someone whose ordering a N7 and getting a case at the same time.
Have not seen the auto on/off as confirmed or not for the Google case.

I like the look, but disappointed at the lack of smart cover support. I think this tablet simply does not support the auto wake feature that case makers advertise.

I have the Poetic and the smart cover aspect of it works just fine with the 2013 nexus 7.
With that said, fifty bucks for this seems a bit absurd... smart cover support or not.
dislike....
Well did not like this flip one for N7(2013)...Simply why would I use that....did not like it that much and not even worth of its cost too...$ 50 for this flip case..its quite steep cost of Google....

It does, well on my LTE, so I assume also on the wifi only ones. Hold a magnet near the bottom right of the screen and see for yourself.

It does. Asus just don't make cases with the magnets in them.
My official Google case came in today. I purchased the black model. Here is a list of first impressions:
This case looks great, by far the best looking case I've seen (I have had the Moko, Poetic Slimline, and ASUS cases).
The case fits the Nexus 7 very tightly.
The material is very nice. Feels great in the hand. Much better than my Poetic Slimline
There is nothing to keep the case closed besides the weight of the screen cover (it's noticeably thicker than the cover on my Poetic case). That being said, it can come open.
This case does not have sleep/wake functionality.
The angle of the tablet when standing up is really nice, make it much easier to view when sitting on the desk.
I'd love if this case had magnets to keep the cover closed and for sleep/wake. However, it is so much better looking than the Poetic that I think I'll just live without that functionality. Right now, it is my primary case.

Thats so disappointing... So many other companies add it in, you'd think they would too.
I think Apple has a patent on the magnetic smart cover so it might be that Google just doesn't want to get into it.
Thin?

How slim or light is it compared to the Slimline?

It can't be that, because the Nexus 10 has an official magnetically-operated smart cover that wakes and sleeps the device.

It is slightly heavier and thicker than the Poetic Slimline.
Here is a quick hands on from Droid Life: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/10/first-look-nexus-7-2013-official-google-play-case/
Meh I'll stick with my Portenzo Book cover with a elastic strap and magnetic sleep/wake = $25
Well I would prefer to go with poetic slim rather than with this one...poetic is much better some around on comparison with that one and more over its not much expensive and worth of its cost too...

Yes it does: my Noreve-case has this functionality!

Another forum had a sample case and tried removing it the wrong way, they ended up separating the back cover and even cracked the portion above the USB port.

yup - droid-life.com
Kellen broke the nexus, but he managed to get it snapped back together. Said the fit was perfect, but so much so that atking it off, if done incorrectly, can break the tablet apart
Can anyone compare it to ASUS Premium Cover then? just wonder which is better,..
