Device debloat seems to have screwed a few things up - Verizon HTC One (M7)

First, the device no longer displays my google+ backed up photos in my galary. Before, it was under a album named picasa. It doesnt come up with anything else when I select "add online service" except for facebook. Second, there exists a mobile hotspot toggle in my toggles menu. THis no longer pulls up anything. Is their a way to edit what toggles show up? Is their a way to readd mobile hotspot?
Thanks!

The VZW hotspot is an extra fee each month, so I wouldn't worry about it. As for the Google+, just a side effect of the debloat.

Is their any way to return the picasa album to my gallary?

Hotspot is an added fee for everybody, but you can use your own from the play store for free.

Is their any way to reinstall the sense gallery app or maybe the picasa app?I used to have a nexus and it would show up with a folder called auto backup that had all my google+ backed up photos. Any idea how to get this back? Also every time I boot my phone it goes through the optimizing all thing that happened when I flashed the debloat zip. Any idea how to stop that?

Hate to tell you otherwise, but I am on a tiered plan and have used it since the outcome of the lawsuit without being charged (assuming I don't bust my 8 gigs).
Prior to the lawsuit if you tried it the PC/tablet/WiFi client would enter their captive portal. Now the only people who get that are unlimited data customers.

Did you do a nandroid back up before you debloated? You could restore that (if you did).

Unfortunately no (idiot I know). Does anyone have access to the sense apk file?

If you know what apk you are looking for you could download the stock rom, and get a copy of the apk from there. Also with Sense there isnt just one apk file, there are many files that make the Sense UI work.

Android Market
It's actually a pretty good question.I've run quite a few different roms in the last month or so and even though I back everything up,the Market seems to lose apps that I've purchased from time to time.Would be nice to know if there's a way to retrieve them online or if we just need to keep buying them over and over.
Brutus2TheMax said:

Yes seriously. You answer was anything but. I want to where they are stored. Hitting the downloads tab shows a list of them, it doesn't show WHERE.
Download Astro File Browser and use the built-in search feature. Make sure it is scanning the whole system and not just your SD card.
This should tell you where they are downloaded and stored.
This question is highly ambiguous. You may want to refine.
I think he means, if you wipe and install a new ROM, the first time you go into the market, it will remember the apps you DID have installed.
Where is that stored?

Exactly. This is what is elusive. Maybe I'm completely wrong and they are stored on SkyNet I mean Google.
I am pretty sure they are attached to your google account. So they are stored on skynet, in some dark dungeon of servers they have 1000 feet under ground
Actually, I think this is a two part deal. The apps you have purchased are associated with your google account. Free apps and trials have a local market link associated with them. This link can become corrupted and titanium backup has the capability to restore those links. Running a logcat while executing the restore market links process may point you in the right direction.
.....
Frank...
They are definitely associated with your google account. My market kept telling me I had a **** load if apps on my phone...no mater how many times I wiped, they still showed as installed on my phone. I created a new google account and bam..fixed the issue when I signed in with the new account. Its the weirdest thing.

[Q] Upgrading phones - Can you re-download purchased apps?

I'll be able to upgrade my phone in June and was wondering if I had to re-purchase apps on a new Android device. Does it depend on the app or can you re-download all of them, at no cost, to the new device?
Thanks in advance.
You can re-download those apps you paid for. Just sign in with the Google account you used to buy the apps.

It's done through your google account through the market
Since the Market uses your google account, as long as you login using the same Gmail address, you will be able to re-download purchased apps.

Thanks guys. The EVO was my first personal smart phone so I wasn't sure how that was handled. I was worried that you'd have to buy everything from scratch for each new device you owned.

As long as you sign in with the same google account in which you downloaded them under, yes.
And for the free ones, make sure you have them saved on your sd card and you can put those back on too! (or on computer and put them on your new sd)
I'm not sure if its possible or not, but I've always wondered if you upgrade your phone, if you can restore the data in an app from titanium backup. IE i made a backup of my lvl 30 character in zenonia on my evo, and I upgraded to the EVO 3D, or switched to the thunderbolt on verizon. Would You be able to restore the backup in titanium (after the phone is rooted ofc).

Will it have Backup Assistant?

I have never owned a Nexus phone so please excuse me if this is a dumb question. I currently have a rooted Thunderbolt running CM7.1. My understanding is that Nexus phones don't have any of the bloat apps preinstalled. I don't need/want Verizon's Backup Assistant as I use Google for my contacts. Does anyone know if this phone will have Backup Assistant pre installed? If so, will we be able to remove it without rooting the phone? I would like to get this phone and not have to root it.
That's a good question. They didn't install backup assistant on the iPhone 4 or 4S and contacts are transfered via an app you have to download from the app store so they may do something simular. However they did manage to get their mobile hotspot app pre-installed on the iPhones so we'll have to wait and see.
But with 4.0 even if they put it on the phone it doesn't really matter:

What he was referring to was a Verizon app that is solely used to transfer contacts from one CDMA phone to another since they cannot be saved to a SIM like GSM phones. It's pre-installed on nearly every VZW phone, however to anyone in the know, it's kind of useless if you're going from Android to Android since all Google contacts sync to whatever phone shortly after you sign in to your account during the setup phase.
Your gmail backs up your contacts, backup assistant is not needed.
Yes that's what I meant. I don't want the Backup Assisant app on the phone at all. Don't need it as I use Google (gmail) to back up my contacts. With the poor battery life I experienced on my HTC Incredible and Thunderbolt, I figure any unnecessary apps I can get rid of the better. Especially any that run/sync in the background.

Solution for "Security Error"

One of the reasons you may be rooting your Nitro might be to remove bloatware. At least, that was the main reason for me.
Anyway, after you root and go about customizing and deleting apps, you will likely find yourself rebooting and being greeted by an LG logo and the words "Security Error". Then you go through the terrible motions of unbricking your phone and trying again only to brick it once more.
Well, after bricking my phone a good 30 times, I have found a solution. Here it is:
DO NOT UNINSTALL ALL AT&T SYSTEM APPS
There you have it. It seems that AT&T has set up their ROMs to verify that all system apps are intact at boot. If they are not, they assume that the ROM has been tampered with. Of course, this does not mean that you can't freeze these apps. I used Titanium Backup to freeze these apps.
When I finished customizing my Nitro, I booted into ClockWorkMod Recovery and made a backup. Each time I bricked my phone while testing this, I just restored that backup. I've also kept the backup on my SD card just in case.
Here is a list of the apps that I have found will brick your Nitro if removed:
AT&T Address Book (Safe to remove with v20c update)
AT&T Navigator (Safe to remove with v20c update)
Google Play Books* (Safe to remove with v20c update)
Google Play Movies*
Google Play Music (Safe to remove with v20c update)
Google Play Store/Market
*I have found that these ones will defrost on reboot.
i can tell you for a fact that 90% of those are safe to remove and I have done so.
Yep, most of those are safe to remove. I have security error only then tried to install CWM from leaked firmware.

It appears that with the new v20c update, you can remove Address Book and Navigation.

[Q] Is there a way to get Facebook Sync to work?

I really rely on Facebook contacts sync as it has pretty much all the numbers i need. I know there are apps like Friendcaster and Haxsync but those do not sync the numbers with the profiles. My GNex is running stock 4.1 right now and it is rooted I believe, since i rooted it myself last night (i think i did it right). Is there something that will allow me to Facebook Sync my contacts and still keep the standard OS without noticing anything changed. Or i guess in other words, how can i quickly enable it so that it can sync and then delete whatever i put to enable it to do that so that I am back at square one just this time with all my contacts I would backup and put on my computer. Using a standard GSM Gnex on the latest Jellybean update, I hope I was descriptive as possible. Also I am a noob so please don't go too crazy on me, I've never actually done any of this stuff but i just want my contacts so i can use the stock until im comfortable doing more of this

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am saying lol, I understand these apps give you the contacts. This is what I want yes, but what they lack is adding the contacts WITH the phone NUMBERS. I want the the phone numbers. I am trying to get the phone numbers of with the contacts lol am i clear yet :crying:
Exactly. I want numbers too. I have like 5 people synced to my Google account. The rest are on Facebook. Friend caster only syncs them to my "people" app. If I go to the phone app the numbers aren't there. When I open the menu and select "choose contacts to display" I select friend caster and it says 0 contacts. Looking for contacts phone numbers not just names and HD photos...

Custom ROMs usually have Facebook sync working fine, you could also search how to modify a stock google image to allow facebook sync, if I'm not mistaken you'll need root and busybox, you will need to edit a text file and run a script that will update a database in your phone... Unfortunately I don't have this information handy, so, you'll need to search for it if you want to modify stock rom (remember, you need root), or, you can always use custom roms that do not have this limitation.

You tried to export them? There must be a way once you do get the contacts synced to save them into the phone and not just under the synced profile that way you can export them. I tried to export them off my other phone running gingerbread and put them onto my Gnex but it was a no-go the file i extracted had 0 bytes for some reason it just didn't want to export the contacts at all.. Was hoping it was still possible but I suppose its not
