I've tried this. I guess I'll need to delete all the drivers and try again. Never had such a difficult time getting my computer to recognize USB Mass Storage.
** Update **
If it doesn't work, open device manager. Delete Google Adb device (including driver) and then plug your Nexus back in with the MTP checked. It will install the driver. Everything works now.

I am sorry to hear that your problem still exists. But it worked for my friends and me after checking the MTP option under Settings/Storage/Options/USB PC Connection. We are all using windows 8 PC. And Google released 4.3 update yesterday. If you didn't update, try updating your Nexus 7 2013.

It works!

running motorolla defy with cyanogen mod 7
any idea how to get around the problem
I think you should go to Hardware Devices & manually select driver for your phone,
as it is showing MTP, you should manually select USB Transfer Device Or similar driver.
Best of luck
I have the same issue with my Defy on cyanogenMod 7
I have this problem after upgrade my windows 7 from 32bit to hp 64 version.

I am using win7 standard driver. Try to install Motorola Media Link if your windows doesn't have it. Click Update driver in Device Manager, and use advance, in pick driver, there're 2 compatible drivers, you can select it from there.
I tried that, but non of the drivers work. Thanks anyway.
Assuming you're using Windows 7,
-Right click on your [My Computer]
-Click [Device Manager]
-Check for MTP Devices, open it & Click on Update Software Driver
-Browse my computer for Driver Software, then Let me pick from List of drivers
-Choose USB & then Generic USB driver
It's gonna work perfectly fine then hopefully
Thanks but no go I guess it's a Win7 X64 problem. It doesn’t matter if it works or not. I never use the portal USB state anyway.
I'm just "anal" about stuff not working on my PC Usually I’m the guy who friends ask about Win problems . I guess it's time to step down from the throne. I didn’t think it would happened in my lifetime :=)
Works fine on w7 x64 enterprise.
Thx.

have tried it all,
no help, doesn't show my device as MTP device, even my nokia phone is recognized as MTP, but not defy with CM7
This could help you. For me it worked.
I have 'SuperOneClickv1.9.5-ShortFuse.Drivers.rar' on my computer. I've extracted the Motorola folder with drivers. Went to Device Manager, right click on MTP device and update driver - select manualy - browse to the previously extracted Motorola folder with drivers - select update. After few seconds the drivers were installed.
Here is the (dropbox) download link for RAR archive of the Motorola drivers (size 1.32 mb).

Can't get Nexus 7 to show up on computer

Shows up on my laptop but not on my desktop, have tried back and front USB ports
have uninstalled USB drivers, reinstalled USB drivers (universal adbdriversetup6 downloaded from xda sources)
downloaded android SDK manager and installed whatever USB stuff it had there
used USBdeview to remove any nexus 7 related things and then re-install USB drivers
Cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on... can anyone help me please
When I plug it in my desktop it makes the sound like something got connected... even has the safely remove hardware thing with nexus 7 there, but nothing in my computer
also have tried with/without USB debugging
tried removing my rom and flashing stock etc
Nothing has worked so far
and yes forgot to put in the title but this is for the Nexus 7FHD 2013
Is there a chance you are using usb3.0 port and can switch to usb2.0?
I would suggest you backup, flash stock, and redo your driver deinstall/install on stock. Try to get it working there first. Make sure USB debugging is disable on stock.

Driver instal with WinXP
I went around with this problem after both my Win7 laptop and WinXP desktop both recognized my N7 2013 the first time I connected to them. I had no problem dragging and dropping files.
I had then returned the tab back to BB for a exchange for another. This time after setting up the tab and setting the MTP file toggle and USB settings correctly......The Win7 laptop worked find and recognized the N7 just like it did on the first tab. But now the WinXP desktop did not work and only saw the N7 as a ABD device.
You may already have the correct drivers (if not those are available here in several posts). You just have to direct windows driver update to the correct place for the MTP driver. Here is how i did it.
1. Open up the Device Manager on your PC and locate the Android device it sees. Select the update driver option and you get to the "Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard" screen.
2. In this window it asks "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?" Select the 3rd option ' No, not at this time"
3. In the next window "This wizard helps you install software for...." Select the 2nd option "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
4. In the "Please choose your search and installation options" window... go down to the bottom and select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" option.
5. Now finally the window we need..... "Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware" The "show compatible hardware" button should be selected...if not check that box. You should see 2 choices in the "Model" area..... Google Nexus ADB Interface" and what we need to select " MTP Device" click on the MTP Device and hit next......it should install and your Nexus 7 should then show up properly.
Hope this works for all that have had a hard time as I did....I just found it odd after getting a replacement N7 my XP desktop did not recognize it as it did to the original one I used the day prior.

Just go in settings then storage and then computer usb connection by opening preferences in storage and then make sure mtp is checked.

If nothing else here has helped you solve this issue, check my thread, it should be of some help to you...
I'm having an issue where I can connect to my laptop in debug mode, but I'm not able to connect in the MTP mode with debug turned off. I expected to be able to mount the device storage in either mode.
Is that correct? If so, any ideas? I do notice I can't seem to get the MTP driver to stay in device manager.

[Q] My computer not recognizing MTP AT ALL

Hey guys. I been here for like 4 hours just dabbling with everything. And cannot seem to find any solution to this...
I have uninstall all drivers and restarted like ten times now doing the same process over and over, cleaning up each file carefully of the nexus or any android device.
My problem is when i plug in my nexus 7 2nd gen, it seems to not even detect squat.
I have usb debug enabled
my MTP is on
( if i switch to PTP i can access the folder)
Ive done fresh start on everything i even look through device and try changing the option to MTP and STILL DOES not work
I don't even see my nexus 7 in my HDD external or anything, nothing pops up but an ADB success driver, and when i changed it to MTP a MTP success driver with STILL no luck....
I just bought it today and it worked fine earlier, now when i root it and stuff it seems to be glitchy with my MTP
I even factory reset everything i couldn't access my ADB
any help would be appreciated
Someone said that manually updating the adb usb driver in devices should show you a choice, choose mtp. It should then sort itself out properly.

On your Nexus, open "settings", click on "Storage", click on options(3 vertical dots on the top right corner), click on "USB PC Connection", now check MTP option.
Try connecting to your PC (or Mac) now. I didn't have to do that on a stock build, but for some reason I had to do it on a couple of custom roms. Hope it helps ya out...
Try enabling USB debugging. I know it sounds odd but its helped me with my devices.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
do this only if you can see PTP on PC
On PC check device manger, on Android if there is ADB driver - uninstall it
On N7 set to MTP, debug off and reboot with N7 USB cable connected to PC
It should re-install the ABD drivers on PC before N7 fully boots up
You will be back in action.

Actually for me, it's the opposite. If usb debugging is on I can't access the device to view files. Try disabling it?

My Nexus 2013 32GB 3G is not detected properly on PC, help!

Hello gentlemen,
i got the tablet for three days and all was fine.
Yesterday i installed unofficial CM 10.2 build and since then when i connect tablet to PC,
my tablet is detected as Nexus 7 with exclamation or as deb also with exclamation,
I tried to install nexus 7 usb driver, but it didnt find any device to which it could install the driver.
USB Debugging is enabled, if i disable it, nothing is detected.
What are my options now? can it be solved?
Everything else is fine.

No you aren't screwed, you really got to want it to break it. Just so I am clear then it won't show up as an external hard drive or anything unless you do a peer to peer setup? Also are you running the newest nightly of CM?
"I had to turn off USB debugging, delete the ADB drivers in Device Manager, then reboot the device while it’s still plugged in. Windows recognized the device as an MTP device & installed the drivers before it even fully booted."
Found this well reading on it not connecting to the pc. Simple enough to try out.
Yes sir, I can only see it as PTP or MTP, nothing else.
Should MTP be enabled when rebooting the device?
What i should achieve by doing this?
EDIT.: after restart of device it's trying to install AOSP on deb, unsuccessfully.

i thought that MTP is the only option to connect it to the pc because its sdcard is emulated on the same partition? my galaxy nexus and nexus 7 can only do MTP too, unless in recovery where i mount it somewhere along the lines of mount as usb storage?

You could be right, i don't know, i copied custom rom immediately after i got nexus, so i didn't really watched how PC see the tablet.
Anyway i successfully flashed back original firmware 4.3.1 and after reboot suddenly Nexus 7 is recognized correctly
and it automatically install driver from folder where i got usb driver from google. So .. i will take a few days pause before i flash custom rom again
Thank you all for helping me in this.

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 wont connect to PC or recognize

Hey guys,
I am trying to connect my Nexus 7 to my pc (windows 8) so I can unroot it and start over. My problem is that my computer won't recognize my tablet (picture 1). So my first attempt was messing around with changing the tablet in and out of MTP, PTP, and Debugging mode. No luck. Second attempt, different cable that will connect my cellphone to my computer. No luck. Third attempt, updating drivers from google, and I discovered this: looking at picture 2 and picture 3, my computer tells me that there is no driver installed while simultaneously saying that the driver is up to date. Going back one screen it says my driver was last updated 2006. So my computer wont even recognize my tablet and at this point I am almost buy a new one and start over. Any ideas?
Thanks for all the help
Mike
With your nexus pluged in,Try going start computer. Right click on computer go to manage , device manager find where it says android phone at the top of the list click it and should see android composite adb interface right click and Uninstall the drivers. Unplug and reboot computer then plug in nexus and let it reinstall drivers should be good to go.
