[Q] phone apk - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hey guys,
Unlocked and rooted here and every so often I keep getting prompted to allow or deny the phone apk root access. It usually wakes the phone up on it's own and will prompt me to grant or deny. Is anyone else getting this...is it normal?
thanks

Saw this last night too. Same symptoms. I allowed and then deleted it from su app and rebooted. Haven't seen it back yet.

[Q] LOST ROOTED evO

hi everyone, i just lost my rooted evo, but i dont have any software like mobile defense or anything similar....
i thought i could track it through latitude but i never enabled it in my gmaps...
any one have any help with this ??
I've never used it but check out plan b by lookout labs. It's supposedly designed just for this purpose. BTW, if it works please reply as I want to know if it does work as it says.
Install through the web android market.

I think most, if not all, of those types of apps must be setup before you lose the phone.
That's what I thought but this one specifically says it can be installed once a phone is lost through the market and it will run as soon as the app is pushed through to your phone by google. Of course it could all be pr speak which is why I want to know if it works for the op.

Actually, now that you mention it, that could work. I wasn't thinking that you could use the Android Web Market to silently push the app to the phone. Since it silently installs such apps without prompting for confirmation of either the install or its permissions, it probably would work. They would see it install in the notification bar, but might not notice before you got the location info you need.
Of course, this is a great example of why I think that's a security flaw in the Android web market. If someone compromises your Google account, they can push an app down to your phone via the web market and you might not know. Basically such an app could do anything short of something requiring root access with no prompt showing up. I've always thought that despite it being convenient the way it is (review the permissions on the web and have it automatically install), it'd be much more secure to confirm install on the phone first. That said, in this one scenario, it could actually be helpful.
thanks for the help!
i installed/pushed the app through the market but still waiting to get an email.... ill try texting with my friends mobile to see if its still on.
o wow...hopefully it is still on and that app works!! good luck to ya!!
So I have to know. Did it work?

Yes. So weird and I never download pirated apps... This happens once I turn my phone on, I accidentally granted on the first time and I changed it to deny immediately... Just don't know what will happen.
Edit: They're discussing this issue in the superSU thread.
This showed up last night here as well asks for permissions after every boot

well:
mksh is a command interpreter intended for both interactive and shell
script use. Its command language is a superset of the sh(C) shell
language and largely compatible to the original Korn shell.

the question is: why shell suddenly start to ask root rights. For now, I deny it. Just in case
Just got it on my rezound, running newts onex, it came up and my WiFi was already on.

Started happening 30 Oct @ 11.04pm GMT. Now happens about once an hour.
Popped up for me on a view rims while I was texting. It said .....mksh..system....Permission. Something close to that.

I upgraded supersu around the time this started happening.
I think that there may be a clue in the change log:
"- Modified system and shell user - no longer granted root by default"
So perhaps this request was granted silently in previous versions of supersu?
Still, I'm going to set to deny - just in case.
I've been getting the same thing on my LTEvo for a couple days. at first i didn't pay attention and granted. immediately went in and changed to prompt.
S-off (1.15/1.19 downgrade path then lazypanda)
Viper4g ROM
I updated Super SU on miui and no sign of it, yet
sentfromybrain
I have a One S and noticed this just started happening to me as well. I'm on stock.
I also noticed that my wifi setting somehow was switched from Always on to Never. I have a feeling that the two are related.
I'm switching it back to Always on and I'll report back if the root request for mksh stops appearing.
+1 happening to me also on my One v rc6......I granted...

Started happening to me too. I'm not on a One V, but rather an Evo 4G LTE (One X variant). I found this thread via Google and am reporting just to collect reports in one place.
Running total stock, except S-OFF and rooted/SU (Chainfire).

[Q] 3rd party used my phone: How to check for modified/added files

Hey everyone,
Got randomly (?) searched at the airport and they took my phone into the back room to "check" things.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't like people going through my things- especially when I don't know what they're doing. So now I would like to know if anything was changed or added, as unlikely as it may be.
How can I go about finding out if anything was installed or modified?
Rooted on ViperX

Go through your apps and go through your files. Simple as that.
Wipe and reflash ROM to be sure.

It could happen anytime you leave your device unattended. Make sure you're using a screen lock with a reasonably short time of auto activation. If you're not rooted, check your list of apps. Devices without SU binary (rooted) should not be possible to be hacked badly within few minutes, or hidden spyware apps be installed, passwords revealed.

[Q] Need Help with OTA on a stock unrooted please

Hello all, This is my situation...I recently got a message from t-mob saying they have a new update..I don't trust any t-mob updates and as such, I clicked on postpone for 1 day. I then updated the phones firmware using kies. Problem is that after I updated through kies I still get that annoying message stating update postponed. I tried going to about phone in settings to uncheck the marks and all it does is say "congratulations t-mobile has sent you a new software update for your device" nothing else can be accessed when I click on software update. My phone is not rooted and is stock. How do I get rid of this annoyance and how do I stop device management from sending me these ota udates?
53 people have viewed this, isn't there anyone with knowledge on this that can help please?
unfortunately the best advice I can give you is to try a factory data reset or just wait...usually tmobile will push updates for a certain amount of time and then stop, from then on only manual updates so you can try and ride it out
Also I'm not sure if this will work as I have never tried it but you can go into settings and applications and disable device management
Root and install Tb and delete the annoying app like I did. That thing kept reminding me left and right...

Yes it is completely annoying, now after I postpone it sends a new reminder, and I now have TWO icons showing that I have to keep postponing. Can you explain for me what is Tb and perhaps guide me with a link on how to root if it's not too much to ask that is?

Play Store Download Errors

Yesterday I had some apps that had new updates on the play store, so I started to update them.
I started seeing one wouldn't go through because it was giving "Package file invalid". So I tried over WiFi and same issue.
Got home and looked at my two tablets (Nexus 7-2012 and asus tf101) and they were having similar issues with updates, but different apps. I was also even getting download error #497. Sometimes just trying over and over again would work but now it seems like some apps just wont go due to the errors.
I tried clearing the cache/data of play store and download manager as google suggests, but that did not help. I've tried to use google's contact us form but I type this lengthy description of my issue and it tells me that I need to type more... (probably a glitch in their contact us form...) So I cant get something sent to them.
My girlfriend just got the S4 for sprint yesterday and now she is having the same issue, some apps wont download due to invalid package.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions on what can be done? Anyone think this is a issue on google's end?
Also, of my devices only the tf101 is rooted at the moment. Had some issues where I had to do factory restore on my GS4 and haven't rooted it again yet, and nexus 7 I kept reverted back to stock to get official 4.3
If they're system apps use a root explorer and delete them and install them again (if they're available on the playstore) if they're not then install them delete data and cache and remove your account and launch playstore and sign in and it should fix it... Remember if u delete an app with a root explorer you have ti reboot for it to take effect... And also fix permissions...

ive also been having errors with this. im on revolt 8/6 build and using PA gaps. but i have also tried with normal gaps, and get the same. its funny because it only happens with certain apps, and the apps that have the error change everytime i flash a different gaps. And yes, it even happens on newly installed apps.
Though to fix, i just turn off wifi and use data, its inconvenient but its a workaround until the actual problem is identified

I dont think that will work because if it happening across multiple devices with and without root then I'm thinking it's a issue on Google's end. Plus my phone is not rooted anymore.

go to play store, open menu go to settings and there is an option for auto update. I believe the default is to update over wifi only.
I was reading something earlier tonight (after having problems with 10.2 unofficial and getting error 497 with every file I tried to download) that Google was having problems with a few different ISP's and the Play store connections. Some people with the Nexus 7 (2013) were getting this error straight out of the box. Updates sometimes worked via Mobile network, but WiFi would fail with an error code or say package invalid every time.

Yeah, I just saw some articles on it finally. Sounds like everyone is reporting the same issue no matter what version of play store etc.
Use a VPN. Apps that refuse to update on my Wi-Fi network seem to update or download successfully if I use something like Hideman or Hideninja. I've not had problems with either. I can't vouch for their security, but Play Store reviews seem mostly positive for each. I use Hideninja VPN because it's free without time restrictions whereas with Hideman, you're limited to 5 hours each week and the shortest length of time you can activate is a 1 hour block.

I had read about using a VPN over the weekend, just needed to find a app to use. Hideninja did the trick and my apps all updated finally.
The hardest part was trying to download hideninja... it wouldn't download on my phone haha but luckily I have helium on all my devices and its set up with my google drive so it thankfully downloaded on another device.
