[Q] Screen flickered, then phone died.I want my pics b/f sending it away. How can I? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Please. Someone, can you help me? I cannot NOT POWER the phone on. Holding down the power button for any amount of time does not work. Using the volume button in combination does not work. The battery had a full charge. All I did was take a picture and the screen flickered, then the phone went dead. I have warranty for it. I just want the data off of it before sending it in. How can I get the info from the phone to my computer? Is there a way? If you ask me the question, do I back it up with dropbox or something, I will say no. I just want my pictures transferred to my computer. Please tell me there is a way to do this. Thanks.

I should add that I cannot turn on the USB debugging feature on my phone. I feel so helpless.

Maybe the omap flash works but I'm nog conpletely sure if it won't wipe any data . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925468

The short answer is no, you should have used one of the many automatic backup features. Why would you turn the Google plus one off? Its on by default.
Anyway of course it's possible but not for a regular human being and especially not without voiding the warranty.

[Q] help Desire HD bricked- not powering

i am new to the Android world. I followed some instructions and tried flashing my rom with RUU setup while the flash was in progress my little couzin mistakenly pulled out the USB cable, the device frooze, then i pulled out the battery. Since the my DHD has been totally dead. No sign of life atall. plug the power cable nothing seem to come on. I need help
Unless you have custom recovery & HBOOT it's not looking good.
With the phone turned off (pull battery out if you have too) press and hold the vol- then press power button. Hold for a few seconds. Does anything happen?
If nothing do you get the LED to blink?

i have tried that, still no sign of life. Nothing seems to becoming on.
then it is simple then. you can visit your nearest HTC Service Centre and get a replacement. your phone should be still under warrant.

Afraid arzme is right. Just don't tell them the cable was pulled out. If you purchased from a store take it to them, you may even get a replacement.

You might just try a story like: I just wanted to switch my SIM card and the phone turned off. Now it doesn't turn on any more.
Just don't mention anything about rooting/flashing/S-OFF and try to appear like a total noob and you will be fine.

[Q] I know everyone hates a Brick thread.. but..

I literally transferred some files via usb.. disconnected.. reset the phone.. and now it just pulses.. i cant get into download mode..
If i put the battery in (charged) i get NO response..
If i put the cord in and try any combination of buttons all i get is a pulse of the vibrating mech.. no other response.
Any ideas?

Why did you reset the device after transferring files. I copy files all the time and never reset the device after the transfer is complete. Did you flash after transferring the files, what kind of files did you copy, are you running a custom rom?
Brick threads aren't bad if you give us more information so we can maybe help you, or maybe prevent someone else from doing the same thing.

im having the exact same issue... just got the phone for repair tho, it's not mine
I reset it because i was going into clockwork but i wasnt paying attention and reset instead of turned off.. so the phone shutdown and was restarting... but never lit back up.
Im going to just send it back to tmo.. was just hoping this had happened before and someone hoping i was missing something obvious.
Definitely not my first phone or my first flash i used to be part of a dev crew on here.. but this is the first time i have had a ghost brick... im thinking now maybe its a hardware issue? Hopefully tmo will agree with me
I have had a similar experience kinda. My battery was really low and died on me but when I plugged the phone it doesnt act like it is charging and just pulsates when I tried to turn it on.
I dont know if this will work for you but I left my phone plugged in for an hour unplugged it from the charger and it turned on.
Are you doing the right combo to get into download mode? Hold vol up and vol down while the phone is off, then plug in the USB while still holding the buttons.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yea i was def trying the right combo.. i even tried other variations of it just to see.. in the end i think maybe it was a power button short/failure. not sure.. sent it back to Tmo , getting a new one today and diving right back in!
Sorry i never found an answer.

"Bricked" After Overheat Auto-Shutdown - Desperate To Retrieve Data

Hi,
I'm genuinely sorry if this is an often repeated thread, but I couldn't find anyone here suffering from exactly the same symptons as me.
I've had my One X for a couple of months, it's completely unrooted and has nothing on it you can't get from Google's app market. I'm with Orange, in the UK, so the phone's running all their default stuff.
My phone's been running quite hot ever since I got it, but, today, I had it in my pocket while I drove to work (20) minutes, and it must have overheated and turned itself off.
I couldn't turn it on, and, in my panic, I held the power button for ten seconds, and saw the buttons at the bottom flash. Since then, nothing at all, no charging light (from USB or mains). I've tried all combinations of power/volume button presses and absolutely nothing has happened at all. Nothing at all since the first button flashes on the first long power button press (10 seconds). Now, it's been like that for about 8 hours and has been on and off charge all day, to no avail. (no LED at all, at any point, red nor green).
I've just got back from holiday and have a tonne of pictures and vids I have probably lost, but want to try to recover. I'd be really, really grateful for the assistance of the experienced people here. I'm, as you may have picked up, a hopeless newb.
When I connect via laptop to USB, the computer (Windows 7) detects an APX device, whatever that is, but the automated driver installation fails. Nothing shows up in Windows explorer.
Is there anything I/You/We can do?
My last resort is to send it back to Orange, and ask if they can retrieve data, but I expect they'll just send a new phone and wipe/refurbish my old one for someone else.
Is it possible to send phones back to HTC for repair, without losing data?
And finally, although I've not seen anything on the screen at all, no bootloaders, no recovery screen, nothing, might some combinatin of my button-mashing have already wiped the phone?
On a scale of One to OH DEAR...how screwed am I?
Please help me, XDA!
Edit: Ah, I can see it as a device, actually. Shows up as an "APX Device", but I can't do anything with it.
Did you press power + volume up?
If so, it's in "bricked state" now and only HTC can recover it.

Yeah, I think once I tried everything else I tried that.
Is this what NVFlash can get around on other phones, but not the One X?
Assuming that's what I have done, will HTC be able to recover my personal data? I don't care about app-data, just photos and vids.
Should I go through HTC directly, or through my mobile network/carrier? The phone should still be in warranty, it's only a couple of months old.
Edit: Although, one thing to add to that is that at no point, apart from the very first 10-second power button press, did anything happen on the phone at all. If that makes any difference, at all.
I had a chat to an HTC customer services bod, who said that even if they can recover data during a phone repair they automatically wipe it, due to the Data Protection Act (UK).
Anyone happen to know if you can waive your right to data portection in certain instances?

trust me, backup and restore, even if you waived your rights and htc confirmed they wouldn't wipe it, i guarantee you 100% you would still get a phone back that has been wiped.

I know you're probably spot on there. It's potentially more trouble to HTC than it's worth, to go messing with personal data.
But, my phone's all but dead. I can't backup and restore.
Unless I can figure out how to make sense of this "APX" device detection thing.
Can I still somehow root my phone, if the only "access" I ahve to it is seeing it as an APX device? I can't do anything with it. I can't get into the bootloader to unlock it to allow rooting.
Or can I?
would a battery pull prompt the phone to start normally again possibly? The phone isn't hard to open, but htc will probably know if it has been since you might make a mess of some of the glue and shields in there.
Edit: Did you ever enter your dropbox details into your OneX? because it should have auto camera upload on by default. Check your camera upload folder of your dropbox on the web if so.
This may be useful for the s off development. It seems overheat protection may trigger apx
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
If I get desperate enough I might try pulling it open....
I never setup Dropbox, unfortunately. Nice idea though, and I sure as hell will next time.
If my phone's death can further the cause of open One X's for all, then I'm all for it. At this point, I'd pay someone to try and get my data off, too.
If someone wants to talk me through trying to access it in this "apparent" APX mode, I'm up for experimenting.
unfortunately I am also in the same situation,
my HTC OneX has a MIUI ROM, and today while I was playing it is locked, I pressed for 5 seconds the power button and the phone will go off at the time of restart anything! black screen and each function has ceased to work!
the strange thing is that for some time the FlashBoot worked, now no longer even that!
someone has found a solution to at least access to the memory to retrieve the data?
please help me

Put your phone on wall charger for 5-7 hours and then press power button + volume down button until the Bootloader shows up...
However, if you can't access the Bootloader even now... Your screwed. ..
I had the same situation.mine was flashed in a wrong firmware then it stuck in a bootloop.but when i tried to charge it for two hours in order to flash RUU, the device went extremely hot, it's late when I noticed it.After removing the usb charger, from then on my device doesnt power on.no sign of life after all.

[Q] Rooted phone and now wont turn on

I recently Rooted my sealed samsung galaxy s3 without having a clue what i'm doing i downloaded this program called snapdragon to root it along with ODIN. The phone rooted fine everything was working okay, I even downloaded an app to see if the root was successful and indeed it was. I shut the phone down wake up in the morning to turn it back on and I get zero response. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes of course I've tried leaving it plugged in for several hours and the night before the phone was at 100% charge so I doubt battery is the issue.
Tks though

Ummm seems like u can fix it.... go bak to stock using odin as well and go back to stock and i believe cwm is going to be gone so as your root access so re-do it but this time guide yourself through a turorial(a.k.a google) and since you have to clue i think the best choice for you is to find a video tutorial in case your doubting or getting confused with the steps or sometimes to see what you did wrong that caused the phone to misbehave...

This is why I hate one-click-root kits, you get people doing things to their phones they don't understand, wreck it and come here saying "help, I don't know what do do!" Something like this you really should at least understand the basics. I hope this gets you more involved in researching what's actually happening. It's important to know what's happening to your device as well as why, that way if something goes badly you'll have an idea of how to get out of it.
Sorry, enough lecturing, let's see if we can get something going here. Give a bit more detail about what happens. You're phone is shut down, right? You hit the power button and no response, like the battery is actually out of the phone, or does it turn on and give you a blank screen? If it was a brick, I'd think you'd at least see the boot screen before everything goes wrong.
Ok, I'm going to go ahead and assume you've removed the battery. If you haven't, do so now.
If it still won't turn on, try actually holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds. I had a scary moment with my phone yesterday, rebooted it running Wicked v5 on Trinity and the screen just died. I've been running that rom for a week with just a couple of issues here and there, nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled the battery and tried again, nothing. After holding the power button down for a bit I felt a quick vibrate, then the boot logo came up. No idea why, I'm going to have to look into it.
Beyond that, I'm brand new to this phone and Sammy's Android devices so I'm still learning myself. HTC phones I could help out more with, but I'm still a bit clueless with this thing.

Yes I have taken out the battery replaced it several times. I hit the volume home and power button several times. When I do that I get a zero response nothing shows up I hear no sound its as if the phone is just completely dead. One thing I did realise is when I plug it into the computer and press the power button what would happen is it would connect and automatically disconnect
Can you get into Download mode? Volume down + Home + Power button?

Don't forget to let go of the power button when going into recovery.
Have you done what the other post said?
Hold power for about 10-30 seconds. Does it do anything? Do you feel a verrrry slight vibration?
When you plug it in without doing anything else does the computer see it in device manager? How about if you press power once? Or holding power down?
Does it register that its charging?
This may sound dumb but did you try powering up without the phone plugged into anything?

Ummm. Sorry but maybe im missing something? Your first sentence in your op says you didnt have a clue what you were doing....
And where is it supposed to infer that you've done everything already?
Imo you have been getting 'real' advice but from what I see you haven't 'really' answered anyones suggestions.
No one can help you if you dont tell us what exactly you have tried and what what happened when you did.
For example in your only response you mentioned hitting the volume and home keys a bunch of times....what exactly do you mean by this? Did you hold them while trying to power up? Volume up or down? Did you release any of them during that process, and if so which and when?
Its kinda hard to help someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing and only responds that hes done everything common sense dictates.
I seriously mean no offence but to me common sense would dictate that you not try rooting or anything if you know you dont know what you're doing.
It would also dictate that if you want further help with this you should go back and respond to what everyone suggested.
Like I said, im not trying to offend, just help.

The computer doesn't recognize any device attached to it. I've tried all the ideas listed here and I get nothing. It's as if the phone is completely dead. When I flashed the rom my battery was at 90%. I've used various roms on different phones and this was the first time I did it to my Galaxy s3 and this is the first time it's ever happened. Question Power off A52s without PIN

Hi everyone, Thank you for any advice you can give me.
I forgot my phone in a hotel in another country. They have to power off the phone before sending it to me.
I don't want to give them my PIN (and can't give them my fingerprint!) but I cannot find a way to let them power down the phone without it.
I could remote wipe the device but i'd rather not.
Is there a button combination to use?
Thanks,
Arcocer
I guess you can unlock your phone via Samsung's Find My Mobile if you are signed in to a Samsung account in your phone: https://findmymobile.samsung.com/
That way you won't have to give them your PIN information and once unlocked they can turn it off. Other than that, I don't think it would be possible. Unless they find a way to reboot to recovery and shut the phone off from there (don't know if you can even reboot when the phone is on)... unless you force a reboot lol
Since when do you need pin to power off?
Hold power + volume down for about 7 seconds.

It's been there a pretty long time. It'll ask you for your PIN if you attempt to turn it off from lockscreen.

Oh, of course. My bad, thanks.
Drain the battery..
It is a safety feature so that the phone will not turn off if it is locked. If a thief was able to turn the phone off the moment it is being stolen life would be a lot easier for the criminals. It is important to have the phone running so you can trace it and therefore shutting down when locked must always result in a reboot. Your best bet is, as Marvin points out, to have the senders wait until the battery is drained if they cannot send it running.
By the way it seems a bit odd to me why they would not be able to send it running. Who says this and who will notice that a phone inside a parcel is running? What more harm could it cause than a phone inside the pocket of the persons transporting the parcel could cause?

you can ask them to reboot -shouldn't take the pin- and while in recovery you can power it off
