Back to stock from 3.20.401.1 - HTC One X

Hi,
I'm trying to go to stock again to get Hboot 1.72.
I know we can use sense 5 roms on 1.39 hboot, but I just want it.
But I've searched for a RUU for my version but there's only the OTA.
So I followed these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714
This is how I did it:
1 flash the boot.img from the backup
2 restore the backup
3 flash stock recovery (3.14)
and now im still on 3.20
What did I wrong, I really dont know.
And I really want that new Hboot

That's up updating boot/recovery to update the hboot you need to either get the ota from HTC or flash the ruu

But how can I do that? there is no RUU only the OTA file.
Thanks

Install the 320.401.3 OTA file in a CUSTOM recovery. Then install the 4.18.401.2 OTA file in the CUSTOM recovery. Then relock the bootloader and flash the firmware.zip that is located inside the 4.18.401 OTA.
Fastboot oem lock
Fastboot rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Then you are on full stock 4.18.401.2 with hboot 1.72

[SOLVED]update OTA without relocking the bootloader

dear XDA members ,,, as i got a lot of solutions in this form and i see the OTA updates are making problems for many users ,,, here is the solution for people who unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM recovery ......
ON STOCK ROM ...
1- you dont need to relock the bootloader ..
2- download voodoo rootkeeper .. (from market) and run the program and click protect root.
3- you will need your original recovery that you changed to CWM ..
example: if you had 1.28.415.9 and you installed CWM then you need recovery.img for 1.28.415.9 .
install the stock recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24738635#post24738635
4-install recovery.img from fastboot ..
5-boot into phone and OTA update the one x to 1.29.xxx .
6-after update is done just open rootkeeper and click restore root ,,
7-DONE
a big thanks for xda members and im happy to help ...

Actually I never really had to relock the bootloader to apply an OTA... just flashing the stock recovery and keeping the unlocked bootloader + rooted custom ROM did the trick for me... Tho its not a really good idea to install an OTA patch on top of a custom ROM.
i added ( FOR STOCK ) what i know if you have custom rom you wont receive OTA ... will you ???!!!! ... my solution is about if you are still on Stock ...
if you search google youll see people talking about locking the bootloader and removing root and all kind of crap ...
...since the radio is part of the rom now and the only "advantage" of flashing a RUU is an hboot update.
So what is the "advantage" of an newer hboot? If someone finds an exploit on the 0.43 hboot which is fixed on newer hboots you gonna cry (-:
So my advice..stay on lowest hboot until we get S-OFF.
I also didn't have to relock my bootloader.
Just restored my default back up with cwm before root. Fastboot restore to original recovery (stock), update and done. Went back to fastboot and restored cwm, rooted the phone and done.

Orange branded JB update released!

Just popped up on my One X in the UK. Installing now. Looks the same as the other updates (360-odd MB.) At last! Version is 3.16.61.6
Edit - Now installed & feels great. Things I've noticed Orange have done:
- Browser icon changed to previous Orange icon (grrr!)
- Apps now include "Best Deals" (no idea - will disable), HTC Media Link HD (sure it wasn't there before)
Kernel is 3.1.10-g0867ccf
Yes, just got this myself too. There is also a "Lookout Security" app and a "Power Saver" feature. Will try that instead of Juice Defender for a while and see what happens.
OMG i just can't believe it, they said on FB "early new year", and now that suprise
now i have to back to stock and install it
Good news - glad to hear. Thanks.

From reading the instructions I need to flash Clock WorkMod, then do the Nandroid stuff is that right?
I've already got a relocked bootloader as I did have ARHD.
Could you give me some idiot proof instructions? The ones in that post don't seem to be overly friendly to people who aren't familiar with this. Many thanks
Don't worry it was my first time too
I believe you know how to use te commend line and fastboot commends
1. Unlock your bootloader
2. Flash CWM recovery
3. Download the Nandroid Backup 2.17.61.3 CID ORANG001 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
4. Create folder in sdcard of your HOX (your sdcard\clockworkmod\backup\ put here unpacked nandroid "2012-12-22.14.26.42"
5. Copy boot.img from nandroid folder to fastboot folder in your PC
6. Flash the boot.img
7. Go to CWM and "Backup&Restore" -> "Restore", confirm you want restore it and thats it
8. Now you have only to flash stock recovery and relock bootloader
I hope you can understand my instruction, my english isn't perfect
Thank you for this, I'm gunna give it a go when I get home

i think i did the same thing - having waited months for 3 uk to release jb update i reverted my phone back to stock ics ruu (downloaded from xda) and updated to jb via 3 uk ota, then after getting 1.39 hboot i unlocked and flashed renovate rom in such a hurry forgot to take a backup!
wouldn't worry though as we're not likely to see anothe hboot update before dev for the phone stops! just make sure you have a cwm backup of a working version of your phone and all will be good.. unless i've got the wrong end of the stick
Don't worry ? I would worry if i where you, im kinda shocked you say things like this. What about a hardware defect and you want to send it in for warranty.....ever considered that !
Always make sure you can go back to stock !

[Q] Need help my phone gone all glichy

I've tried to update my phone HBOOT from 1.28 to 1.39 and I've used JBFWflasher to do it so I can try using Viper ROM. To cut a long story short I've tried several methods and resorted to flashing it with back to stock but now if looks like it has Viper on it. The phone has gone to being very slow and glichy and I'm stuck with what should I do? .
Can I flash it back to stock again?
What are the steps you have been taken ?
You need to flash the boot.img from the viper rom.zip with fastboot, then make a FULL wipe in the recovery .... not the sdcard ofcourse.
Then install the viper x rom zip.....
Your hboot is updated successfully ?
Give some (or all) info of the steps you did. Including what recovery you are using. Its easier to give proper help

That ruu does not work. When you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom you need to make nandroid backup. That ruu could not wipe your phone because it doesn't install at all ! Now you can only return to stock with a stock nand backup.
So what's the issue ? What did you do ?
You previously installed the 2.17 ruu. Then updated the phone ..... and then ?

That ruu does not work. When you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom you need to make nandroid backup. That ruu could not wipe your phone because it doesn't install at all ! Now you can only return to stock with a stock nand backup.
So what's the issue ? What did you do ?

You can't downgrade to 4.0.4 if you are not S-OFF. And no S-OFF for HOX
Give us the result of the command
fastboot getvar all
Tho looks like you want to downgrade, so only if u have an s-offed hox you can do. Which u might have since you installed diffderent ruu.
Edit: sorry missed your previous post with your main version

You can't go back to 404, touchscreen will not work. You can only go down to 4.1.1 with a custom rom.

how i can go to 4.1.1 ?
1: unlock bootloader
2: flash custom recovery
3: MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP !!!!
4: flash the boot.img from the 4.1.1 custom rom
5: make a full wipe in recovery (do NOT wipe the sdcard)
6: install the 4.1.1 rom.zip
Make sure it's a rom with a main above 3.16.xxx like 3.20. Or 3.18......
