T Mobile S4 on AT&T - Which Roms? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey everyone,
I'm definitley not a noob at flashing roms / rooting / unlocking , etc....Been flashing phones like crazy the last few years (s3,note2,htc one, nexus, etc)But I have one question that I cannot find the answer anywere.. I bought a T Mobile S4 which was blacklisted on T Mobile so I am using it on AT&T wtih full LTE.. Which Roms do I flash for this thing? Do I flash TMO roms or ATT roms, or does the kernal flash just matter? If this is a stupid question, sorrry! lol. Just don't want to brick this thing.
Thanks Guys.

Not trying to sound TOO condesending, but you haven't read much of anything in these forums if you couldn't find your answer to that. All variants of the S4 can flash each other's ROMs as long as you immediately flash a kernel for your specific device. You have a T-Mobile device so you will need kernels from this section; but you are free to use ROMs for the AT&T, Sprint, i9505, etc. Just don't flash anything via Odin that's not meant for your specific device, and don't flash anything at all meant for the Exynos version (i9500).

Yeah I know most ROMS support all Variants but I wasn't 100% sure. I must of been searching the wrong things....I was confused with the kernal flashing as well. I have always owned a Carrier Specific device and never have used an unlocked device thus far, so I was a bit confused . Thanks for Clarifying though! :good:

Infamous S4 ROM has an Aroma installer that will support multi carriers.
Look at the change log for more details.

How are you still using the blacklisted phone if it's blocked for tmobile? Thought the two carriers shared imeis?

I was going to say the same thing. If you're blacklisted on T-Mobile, you'll be blacklisted on AT&T. I have a blacklisted T-Mobile and any sim (even international) is blacklisted while in the US. However, in other countries, it works fine.

Wind Mobile - Questions

I've been reading a few threads trying to find the answers, but I still have a few questions.
=> Rooting
Looking into rooting my S3 with the "No Tripping Flash Counter" method, however when I click on the download link for Wind I get 3x files. I'm guessing (by elimination) that the one I need is the "root66_GLW_T99VVLALE6.7z" correct?
=> ROMs
I would like to install the "Speed Rom Beta 1", however the thread doesn't indicate what variant of S3 that is for. I have also found in some other threads that ROM's and kernels from other providers should be ok, but then this post on "DONT WANT A BRICK?" is saying that Wind and Tmobile are not interchangeable. So I'm not sure if I can use this ROM?
Thanks,
Vic.
WIND is Globalive, so GLW is the right one for you.
The WIND SGS3 is compatible with T-Mobile ROMs as long as they don't touch the modem because the modems are not interchangeable. Since people have been saying that CM10 and CM9 works for our T999V, SpeedROM should work too since it's based off CM10.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
Installed and everything is working except Google now (same scrolling issue other user had reported in the thread).
Had a couple or random reboots this morning, but now my carrier signal shows down and I'm getting a prompt for SIM unlock. Any ideas?

Fair enough...but perhaps I should clarify my response a bit more...
Scott's roms are ports to our devices. .....and he has pulled the bases to create a compatible build from international source.
Making these ported roms "Safe" to use...but in raw form...they are flash bricks for us...
The OP got the generalized answer of "NO" because of the risk in flashing the unchanged international variant builds...which mean an instant brick on the I317/I317M....
Since we don't know to what extent the OP interprets the meaning "international" He/She could take a yes answer and flash a brick by using an untouched build from anywhere on the internet....
It happens all the time, and is the reason for my Caps locked NO.....It then falls to the user to read and understand the meanings, and the differences between international, and international ported rom.......g

[Q] Just purchased a AT&T S3 to use on T-Mobile - Rooting and Rom Questions

As the title states, I just picked up a AT&T galaxy S3. I am looking to use it on T-Mobile. Coming from a galaxy S1, the unlocking procedure is a bit different. It also seems that roms are fairly brand specific, so I assume I should be looking for i747 roms. There are so many options out there, could anyone point me in the right direction to get this phone up and running? Are there any special considerations I should be taking since I am using an AT&T phone on T-Mobile?

Before you do anything, if you want to unlock you phone so you can use it on another network go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033225&highlight=sim+unlock
You will probably need to change the apn numbers to match t-mobile which is easy.... as far as roms go, you should do some searching for t-moible roms in the development thread. Also not being familiar with AT&T and T-mobile you should check to see if they use the same band and also check which modem (radio) you need... I am sure there have been lots of people that have done this arleady.... search search search at least you asked the question before you started not after you had a wreck
Thanks for the link. I did the unlock procedure, haven't tested it yet since I still need to cut down my SIM card.
I also went through and did the CF-Root procedure with ODIN. So theoretically the phone should be ready to flash a custom rom.
I was under the impression that I should be looking at i747 roms instead of the T-mobile version (i999?) since my device is originally AT&T branded. You are saying this is not the case? Basically I should look at roms in the T-Mobile section? It might not matter anyway since some popular roms run on both.
UPDATE:
I installed Stockorama V2 on the phone and it is up and running on t-mobile. It is a multi-carrier rom, but I used the AT&T options when installing. Would I have better luck installing it as T-Mobile? Basically, can I install a T999 rom/kernel on a i747?

[Q] unlocked Samsung Galaxy SIII on AT&T network

Hi,
I have SIM unlocked, rooted Tmobile's samsung Galaxy SIII (SGH-T999); put AT&T SIM card and it is working fine. As a fundamental question on loading custom ROMs, should I be picking ROMs from AT&T forum in XDA or Tmobile in XDA??? So far I have been using Avatar/Liquid Smooth ROM built for Tmobile....still it doesnt make sense to me as i am currently on AT&T....I dont want to brick my phone by doing something wrong.
Can someone reply?
Thanks
Mahesh
BTW - ignore my signature....i am unable to edit them - dont know why - there is no option to edit signature!

You should flash rom's specific to your phones hardware/model number. It seems to me *most* of the hardware is the same between the i747 and t999 from what i've read but always best to err on the side of caution.

by doing that, in my case, would my ROM be optimized for AT&T??

Most likely, but tread with caution. The only issue you might encounter are APN settings that you could always edit manually. From what I understand, the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 is almost identical to the AT&T one, and in certain cases, some people have been able to run T-Mobile roms on the AT&T one.

The only thing that is carrier specific as far as custom ROM's are concerned is the ability to connect to the network in question, its the hardware the ROM is designed for that is important, minus any carrier bloat apps that may be included in a ROM (non issue if using an AOSP based ROM). Flashing software to an unintended device will most likely be bad news. As drx said worst case you would have to manually enter the apn settings. If i recall the only real difference in the TMo and ATT S3's is the fact that the T999 can connect to the 1700mhz band and the i737 can't (natively).

SGH-I337 to Tmobile?

Anyone confirm that you can unlock the ATT variant and flash it to be fully functional on all Tmobile bands?
Going to pick one up but need to be sure it will work. Thanks!!!
Consider it confirmed...plenty have done it including me. You may not be able to change the kernel, but there are custom touchwiz roms you can use. Just read read and read some more before making any changes.
Sent from my i747 on T-Mobile that's getting awesome LTE speeds.

if you ever updated to kit kat or newer basebands+modems, you are out of luck with Loki or installing ANY aesop custom roms or Cyanogenmod. They have towelroot but that's enough for some people, but you are stuck with laggy Touchwiz. It's worth paying extra for the Tmobile version
