[Q] Google Now keeps wanting to install? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all
I don't have Google Now installed.
But when I want to use Google regular search, either from the search bar on top of homescreen or from the app drawer, Google Now keeps trying to install itself. Can I permanently remove Now? And just have regular search?
It is almost like Google Search is advertising Now, but I don't want it ask me to install Now every time, I just want to go straight to search.
Even hitting the microphone opens the Google Now install window, then I must hit the back button to go back to regular search.
This is for CM10.1
Thanks
Heeter

Uh Google search is Google now, that's the evolution of search, the only way I know to not get Google now is to search from Google Web page if you install Google search it is all your going to get.

Interesting and I've never noticed that before but I've never not had a reason to.
Looking at the app, Google Now is what Google has built their app around. You can go to your browser and do a search without getting this issue correct?

Perhaps try turning off the history?
It says it "may" disable functions such as Google Now, but I doubt it can be disabled. Search from webpage is my guess.

Apps that work with google now?

So when I was looking at the settings for google now, there's a setting called tablet search which is a select list of your apps that google now presumably uses in order to answer your question to the best of it's ability. You can enable or disable whether or not google uses that app to give you an answer.
My question to you is do you know of any additional apps that will appear on the tablet search menu?
I haven't done much searching but I downloaded the IMDB app and it showed up on the list, and I enabled it.
Thank you,

How do I get Google Now to show

Holding the menu key down does bring up the Google search, but going through the settings I don't see anything for Google Now. I don't have Google +. Is this needed? I added a valid gmail accound as well to my phone.
Figured it out. I needed to make the gmail account the primary account. I tried to delete the thread but perhaps it will be helpful to someone else.
I see it in the notification pulldown, but not in the top bar. Wonder if there's a setting for that.

In the google (now) app, there's a Privacy and accounts option in the settings when you hit menu. Click on that and click google account to choose which one to use. It'd be nice if we could use a non gmail account with Google Now. My university (utexas) partners with gmail, so it technically is gmail but without some of the perks like google now.

Thanks for the info, I just checked I don't even have the Google now app icon anywhere, I might have chosen not to use it when I first setup the phone, ... what can I do to get it back?

I you use chrome and search for a landmark, after you find it, say a specific McDonald's, next time you open google now it will present you with navigation to that McDonalds.
Google now is amazing. I arrived at BWI on Sunday and when I turned my phone on, it had directions to the hotel up, restaurants listed near the hotel, and the local weather. It does sometjing similar at home too. Probably one of the nicest upgrades thats functional.

How do I add places to Google Now?

I am a long time Android user and relatively familiar with Jellybean but I have no idea how to add places to Google now. I have my home and work programmed in but it did that for me. I currently live at school so I would like it to use that 9 time out of ten but I don't want to use that as home because I guess I'm just sentimental. Does anyone know if/how it is possible to add more locations?

I believe you can check in on latitude, that should do it.

I think you need to log on google desktop version to make those changes in your gmail account

Disable google now?

Does disabling google now means that the google search app for my One X will be gone as well?
No, just go to google search settings and disable it. You will still be able to use the normal search function and voice search.

[Q] Google Now

For whatever reason I only see my appointments for the day when I launch google now. I do know under settings everything is enabled and it remembers my location and search history. So what gives? Does Google Now have a steep learning curve do I have something setup incorrectly?
goto settings.. apps...find Google search
clear data/cache reboot and relaunch Google now
