[Q] HELP cell standby huge battery drain[tried each n everything prb still persists] - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys...
i have tried everything to stop the battery drain
switched to many different roms
under-clocked processor to 768mhz
set a black wallpaper
brightness set to minimal
did battery calibration
switched of all background processes and made sure no location seeking programs works.
used CPU spy, the cell does go to deep sleep
tried juice defender and deep sleep battery saver
but nothing seemed to work
phone locked on full charge drains 40 to 50% in night without using.
then after a few days later i restored everything and opened airplane mode and I went to sleep, in the morning the battery didn't went low a single percent. battery health is good as works really well on airplane mode.
i have low signal issues but i get text msgs and calls with no problems at all, and my explorer and s3 seems to perform well
my all type pf connectivity is off example: location access WiFi Bluetooth etc only gsm is working, i manually selected the network and set it to gsm only rather them auto from *#*#4636#*#*.
what shall i do??
i searched and tried many things from the internet.
i really want those calls i cant always be on airplane mode, the problem is 200% of the antenna draining juice to get more signals. please help.
is there any way to stop the battery drain or restricting the antenna to consume less juice?
PS:using cm10.1 by nightly version:19 Aug 13.

anyone??
one thing more i installed better battery stats it says
no or unknown signal
no data connection
and it is running continuously like since i installed betterbatterystats.
where can i get this bug?? or disable this service??
please give a detailed explanation.

There are a few good apps to try I use
battery mix (I think this is one of the best) and wakelock detector both from my the market.

as it would solve the signal issue and battery all together.

bro if ics solves the problem of battery drain due to low signal then y not... i will surely try...
i dont get a single percent drain on airplane mode the problem is surely network sucking it down... yesterday it went 100% to 48% in 8 hours in deep sleep n no wakelocks[betterbatterystats] :crying:

guys it is to update you i have just updated the latest radio for desire hd from
here: http://www.icsforums.com/forum/showthread/26951
from version:12.54.60.25P_26.09.04.11_M2
to:12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M
i will use it for a while and will let u know its results.
thank you for all your support.

well the radio update did improve the battry a little

Battery drain
I´m having same problems with my DHD, currently im using 4.2.2 Samsation (was it named like that but anyways 4.2.2). Without using phone it still drains 40% in few hours.. I got replacement battery from eBay and thought that would help but didnt help at all. I´ve tried different roms but would like to have newest roms without battery draining so much, so could someone share how to get it better?
And about changing radio, was there a possibility that you may brick ur device if installing wrong radio?
Thanks already!

as i mentioned bro the problem is purely regarding the network sucking down the battery my bluetooth gps wfi everything is turned off... i use 2g gsm only... if u put ur cell in airplane mode the battery doesnt goes down by a single percent. its gsm standyby sucking the battery.
and regarding the radio if u do it right and reasearch a little u wont brick it for sure. got my radio from here:http://www.icsforums.com/forum/showthread/26951
downloaded this zip and replaced the radio.img within the zip from above link.
http://www.4shared.com/zip/Q4NeZZpU/pd98img-dhd-radio_12656029_261.html
put the file on sd card root
booted in bootloader
that did the job.

yup there was nothing, no wakelocks etc i even underclocked my processor to 768mhz... the thing is the signal reception cause when i turn the cell in airplane mode and leave it over night the battery doesnt goes down a single percent. it acts solid.
i get around 18 asu signals at my place i check it from *#*#4636#*#*
but the thing is i was using an HTC explorer before switching to desire hd and with the gsm mode(no airplane mode) the battry stayed solid like the desire hd one with airplane mode(didnt dropped a single percent) at the same house same place.
dont know what going on.

Battery life just terrible, need since help plz!!

As title says guys, I don't no why but my battery life is just really bad since I moved from stock 2.1 Rom to custom ROMs :-(
Is it my phone? I can't work pig wot it is. I checked the battery usage #*#*4636*#*#) and it seems the Android system is using A LOT of it. I tried charging with phone off, clearing battery stats, not overcharging, but just can't resolve this issue.
Also, I have sync set to update manually and have mobile internet off always, only on wen needed. Same with WiFi. Screen is on auto and time off screen lock set to 30 seconds
I am using OpenDesire sense Rom
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thanks

I could feel WiFi siginal of 2.2 is much better that stock 2.1,
I suppose that the better performance will bring the fast battery drain,
if your custom ROM support WiFi N mode,
that really makes your battery life short that before.
I have the same problem and same settings as you. I read on other forum that people who updated to official 2.2 have even better battery life.
I cant even squeze 20 hours out of my battery :/
You guys should always post what ROMs you are using...
Opendesire 3.3, its the same with defrost.
i also had really bad battery life on those 2 roms
even doing nothing the phone would just keep dropping
go to official froyo 2.2
neophye roms for me have amazing battery life = 48 hrs..

Check if the phone goes to sleep correctly. Spareparts > battery usage: other usage, since last unplugged.
I had the same problem, until I found out that the phone was not going to sleep. (running and screen on percentages were way off. Almost 100% running and a lot less for screen on.
update to the last radio
I found that after forcing everything to install to SD card my battery life plummeted. There were apps/widgets that should have stayed on the phone. Once I moved these back, battery life was back to normal.
I use Systempanel to see the battery drain graph and could see a pattern to it.
Same issue here, Will try Neophyte tonight
Using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741663, and it's fantastic! However batt life on .08 and .20 radio is a shocker. I watched a 1 min trailer on youtube, in and out and I lost 4% battery. Before with OpenDesire I'd be shocked if the battery percentage even twitched slightly.

I use Defrost 1.5a and I just use about 2% every hour when the phone is sleeping, and that's with auto sync and mobile data enabled. (disabled it's 1%/hour)
Always underclock to the lowest mhz when the screen is off using SetCPU and when you do use your phone make sure the brightness isn't too high.
I could make a whole list of tips, but I'm sure you'll find more than enough of those on the net.

When your screen is off, your phone should automatically go to sleep. Sometimes widgets or apps keep this from happening (like the music player), making it use battery as if you are constantly working on it.
How I resolved this issue was to find out what app or widget caused this. I ended up starting from a fresh reset, installing first all apps I really use (calendar/message widgets, powerstrip etc.)
I tested by installing an app, rebooting (or sometimes not), check the running time of the phone, turning screen off, and check again in 5 minutes. The phone should go to sleep in about 30 - 40 seconds. I am telling you this, because most apps causing this are widgets/apps running constantly.
However, I found in spareparts also that 'settings' was taking alot of usage time in usage statistics. A simple reboot did the trick from here on. But I am guessing I had installed something which made some app not close properly..
Maybe it is better to have a task manager/killer for these situations.
Running and Screen On percentages should not have too much of a difference if your testing and not using the phone while screen is off (music, bg stuff)
You could try juicedefender, it helps improve battery life by disabling unneeded connections while the phone is not in use

Screens off but sucking the power still

Hay I just left my phone on over night to see what uses the most battery with me doing anything.
The screen used 30% of the battery, what is odd is that everything in the settings is off or set to the lowest it can be set to.
Can you guys help me with how to save more battery from the screen, this is silly that its using so much when it's not doing anything.
What can you think of to help?

Are you unrooted? Do you have a custom ROM? Have you tried taking battery in and out? Or even when these things happened when I was not rooted I found turning airplane mode on and off to work or rebooting the phone as it might of just been a rogue app not allowing the phone to sleep.

hi ,
i would say it is a app, behaving badly ,( badly coded, battery drain? ) that's draining your battery like that ..?
i would suggest try "currentWidget " to check you battery drain ( just remeber to enable the log file, in settings !
my drain, if i leave it overnight,
say about, 9/10 hours, is about 3%/ 4% for this period ( 1mA /3mA a hour )
also try "SystemPanel " to monitor you applications over period of time .
i had same problems as you,
say 15/20% battery drain ,from time to time ,but everytime managed,to id the culprit , with above apps ..!!!
you can find both applications in the market ?
you also don't need, any root for these apps above .
good luck
I'm using LEEDROID v5 I think which shouldn't make a big difference.
Thanks in will download the app and see what they say

regarding the OP, with a lot of the newer kernels the power monitoring stuff is snafu, confirmed by Mad-murdoch on cm, thus the reports of what's using the power are useless, although the overall usage is correct.

50ma battery drain on stock and cm7

Hi wildfire users,
my girlfriend got her wildfire yesterday.
The first thing I've fine, was to root it and check the standby battery drain.
It was between 27 and 50ma in AIRPLANE mode, without sometimes at 120??
My device got 1-2 in airplane and 3-5 without.
Thought it would getting better after flashing cm7, took the rc1...not really.
Any suggestions? Iam an experienced android user, but my options are running out, what else I can do.
What I've done:
Checked drain with current widget,
checked partial wakelocks with spare parts-seems okay.
Uninstalled all custom user apps I had installed.
Read here, that reflashing the radio fixes some issues...didn't tried that yet.
Any other ideas?
What drainages do you've got?
Waiting for your answers.
Edit: perhaps it will help to let it charge it to 100% and check again...maybe let it also discharge one time ^^.¿?
....think i was perhaps a bit over motivated...

Battety drain will be above normal just after flashing a ROM. You need to make a full charge and then go to recovery and wipe the battery status.
Then do few complete charge-discharge cycles. Then it will be definitely better than stock rom. And use CPU settings in smart way. Work on the minimum setting and governor. Also depends on other factors like live wallpapers etc..,

Battery calibration gives accurate reading only, it will not improve the weared out battery.
When shifting between roms, the battery will not give accurate reading because not all roms utilize the battery in the same manner (Rom saves the details in batterystats.bin file). So, what if it gives wrong reading. There might be a possibility that it shows 100% even when not fully charged. So we think battery drains faster, but the fact is we haven't charged it fully. (correct me for any errors).
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Yes showing 100% wrongly must be the only situation where battery calibration be blamed. But 8-10 hrs of charging from deep-down-zero should definitely make it full, right ?
Whats your general time taken for charging in standby mode (WiFi, Mobile Data, Bluetooth Off).
I am experiencing heavy battery drain with WiFi, since I installed Sunabh ROM. (He adds a switch off wifi notification to hide this fault. Cunning.)
Any solutions ? May be re-flash the radio or change the kernel ?
Dude, attack the CID bug.
I resolved my issue without even switching of my phone once, let alone flashing anything.

[ISSUE] Problem with battery drain with mobile network ON(WCDMA)

I get a very huge battery drain with MOBILE NETWORK ON and WCDMA/GSM
EX : today i had 42% battery, activated MN for 15 min and browsed for like 5 min on some sites(no DL) . After 15 min , my battery droped to 28% :O which i found very weird, since it was some small navigation...
Is this normal ?
AND
WI-FI is normal regarding usage, and standby batter drain is like 3-4% on 8 hours

The Desire HD has very high battery drain and when on 3g it will search for coverage. Try new radio and new light rom
Try to turn off 3g when u don't need. The gsm mode have 5-8% gain of energy, perhaps change your radio too.
hello,
i have big problem with my HTC Desire (rooted with custom ROM). Before 2 weeks my Desire worked perfect: battery drain full after 3-4 days, network signal was good. But now battery drain full after 8-12hours, and i have problem with signal. At home signal was good, but now signal is low. And the phone reboots 1-3 times a day. All problems start in the same moment.
When I switch Desire to Airplane mode or to only gsm or 2g mode battery drain normal.
I tried factory reset, install other roms, other kernels, newest radio, 2 batteries; 2 sim cards; scan with 3 different antivirus (no virus), format /boot; /cache; /system; /sd-ext; /data and install new ROM but nothing help me. I don't found nothing about it in Google. Maybe it is hardware problem? Maybe someone have some idies?
I bought another HTC Desire and he work perfect at home and other places. Now I can compare with faulty Desire, but I don't know what more can I do.

To be honest I have done so many tweaks to help with wakelocks. It is definately not an app but the standby time is sooo much worse on my Note in comparision to my HTC One S. I'll get about a day regardless of screen time. On my One S I'll get 2 days with the same screen time and with the same apps.
The only thing I can think of it being is that mdm_hsic kernel wakelock. Have no clue what to do about that though, and it's clearly a Samsung/Note 2 bug given that the HTC doesn't have this sucking away the standby time.

hi,just a few pointers to think about ....?
i am on stock 4.1.2 not rooted ,and my avarage battery drain overnight (10/11 hrs +) is 2%..or ..3 %.
i also have a note8.0 and battery drain is normally 1% in standby mode overnight (10/11 hrs )also on 4.1.2
lucky ? no i don't think so .
(maybe i got my all "tweaks " right..no ?)
just a few pointers (things to think about, why others get better results and others not,in this case on 4.1.2 )
good luck

Do you have any Battery manager apps installed? I had one that constantly pulled WiFi status and since I have WiFi disabled when outside of home or work it kept on turning it on/off and drained my battery. It was my error for configuring it wrongly, I admit but still, that may happen without control.
Check Wakelock Detector, click on this:
Awake.............................Statistics since..............................Deep sleep
bar after night of rest and post statistics that you find there, The most interesting is a difference between Screen-on and awake times. If your phone is awake much longer than it has it's screen on then there are some processes that keep it awake and drain battery.

Check in Settings>WiFi>Advanced>Keep WiFi on during sleep>???
I have that set to Never

Wifi does seem to be messed up on this phone. I find, on standby, it causes more drain than 3G does. Usually something like 10% - 15% overnight.
This is not right and something is seriously a miss with Samsung. My HTC running the exact same apps does not have this problem. You shouldn't have to turn wifi off as opposed to 3G to get better battery life.

Are you thinking about some hardware problem that causes wifi to use more memory than usual? Like higher voltage or something? Because that is not very probable. I think there is some app there that is using wifi, high power usage happens when wifi is performing scans is being turned on or actively transmiting data. Please use wakelog detector to find what app is causing kernel wakelocks and from there we can find a real culprit.
I does not have to be malicious but may be an incompatibility between hardware and some software, one that works well on HTC and not on this Samsung model.

No I don't think it's hardware.
I also don't think it is an app given what I have observed with wakelocks and deep sleep. I have made many adjustments to the phone and I'm clued up with wakelocks and the like and this doesn't seem to be a wakelock issue.
I have even assigned a static ip and made tweaks within my router but it hasn't helped. There seems to be a strange way this phone handles wifi and it is causing unnecessary drain.
In regards to Kernel wakelocks, it would appear something called mdm_hsic is causing lots of wakeups and more standby drain than it should be and this does not feature at all on my HTC. This is not related to wifi, but I'm pinning the general crappy standy drain im getting on this but there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of it.

mdm_hsic is related to Modem part, you may try different modems (be mindfull of efs problem in newer firmwares), also try to enable/disable "fast dormancy". I think you could test that by selecting "GSM only" and observing.

Thanks for the reply
I have tried different radios in the past. If that's what you mean?
I've also tested around with fast dormancy (it is currently disabled)
My network only works on 3G and has no 2G coverage. It is purely a 3G network and therefore GSM only will not work. This problem still persisted when I was on a different network though and selected gsm only fornthe majority of the time.

Yes, I was talking about radios.
Have you ever tried changing CSC file? Full, four part flash in Odin, not only PDA?
What method did you use for modifying fast dormancy setting? Because the correct one includes full factory reset when changing CSC. Anyway fast dormancy would be a problem only if you used 3G network for data.

Nope have not tried changing the CSC.
The method I used for fastdormancy was with that app in the marketplace than allows you to toggle it on and off. I'm not sure if fastdormancy is linked the mdm_hsic though, to be honest.
