[Q] AT&T S3 stuck on Edge (not LTE) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

My problem:
My galaxy s3 takes a LONG time to connect to AT&T when it boots up (over 5 minutes), and then only has Edge:2 network service.
How I got here:
Had 4.1.2 installed from AT&T
I rooted my phone with the "no countering tripping method" as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 to 4.1.1 this downgrade apparently made something not work, I kept getting errors, something about acore process failures.
I re-installed the stock 4.1.2 from AT&T
Still getting process failures
Read that clearing the contacts sometimes works, it didn't
Read that factory reset helps, it did
I still wanted a rooted phone, so this time I used this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
Again processes started crashing
Again had to reset to factory
Now I noticed my phone wasn't working at all
Found that my IMEI was set to 0
Fixed that by following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
Note: the link to the sgs3.nv.gen.zip was bad, I found another here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335951 but my virus checker freaked out on it. I ran it on my kids pc, and it worked, don't know if I infected them or not, but I got my IMEI data back
Decided all this was too much hassle, so I reset my flash count to zero with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
Reverted to stock 4.1.2 from AT&T and reset to factory
Still stuck on Edge:2
Found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2036891 my phone won't let me change my band preference, also under *#197328640#>SIM>CHECK NV it say "Band perf: Unexpected value"
Question:
Where do I go from here?
Thanks!

This just happened to me too. I backed up my IMEI but lost it and had to get a new phone. I used QPST tool to restore my IMEI , which is located behind your battery. I did not work. There is another tool called NV Generate or something like that and still it did not work. I did not like spending the money for a warranty replacement, of course, so looked and tried hard for a fix. Since nothing worked I am also thinking that its possible I had a hardware problem, but I can say that an IMEI issue can be as bad as hardbricking, so proceed with caution and follow to a T. Good luck bro. I hope you can fix it. Let me know if you have a chance.
Edit: I missed the part about you using NV tool. I spoke with a bunch of Att help and a Samsung guy as well. Nobody knew about it. Mine was 5 freaking days past warranty. Still sick from that. If you are under warranty. Take it back.

I'm also having these issues..
Anyone have a true fix? I would go back to Full Stock, but have already tried that and still had the data issues. Something is hosed that needs to be fixed..

Fixed!!
I bought a new phone from AT&T, copied the nv config using the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
Changed the IMEI to my phone's IMEI, and EUREKA! It works!
I'm attaching the file I used (with the IMEI blanked out, so be sure to fill in our own IMEI or this won't work for you, it is section 550, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117 for more details).
I hope this helps others, and they don't have to pay the $35 restocking fee.

This is exactly what I need! Thank you! My usb is corroded so I cannot connect usb and will have to load this manually. Could you please tell me the exact process you used to add your EMEI # to the file? I have opened the text file and went to section 550, but I do not know if i'm properly changing the number.

I fixed the IMEI using the following instructions:

I got almost just the identical problem... However, I checked my phone and my IMEI number is still intact... yet im stuck on EDGE
story was that I brought my rooted S3 from ATT (but not unlocked) to China 2 weeks ago hoping to use the phone on China Mobile's network (though knowing that China Mobile doesnt support the same band for 3g/4g as the US).
It wasn't til after inserting the sim that I realized I havent unlocked the phone yet... and since ATT won't give me the unlock code, I ended up trying to use the *#197328640# method, which was unsuccessful because I was still on ICS and this method requires Jellybean.
So in a hurry I used odin to upgrade to a jellybean version that apparently wasn't compatible with my I747.
After taking to a local shop, the dude repairing my phone was able to get the OS running again but it was weird in that even with an ATT sim card the phone would ask for an unlock code.
So finally after doing the re-flash of the official ATT I747 Jellybean rom, I was able to get into the *#197328640# menu and unlock my phone using
the second method mentioned in here: http://www.wikihow.com/Unlock-Samsung-Galaxy-Siii-(S3)
I was happy to get it to work with China Mobile's sim even though I can only use EDGE over there, but I also realize the dreafully long wait time for the phone to get a signal from power on.
After coming back to the States today and inserting my original ATT sim card, I noticed that it still takes a long time for the phone to get a signal after power on and after it acquires the signal from ATT, Im only getting signal (feels almost like the phone is stuck in the international setting...)
I have tried to reflash to z999 rom with cwm, tried to reflash the modem firmware, nothing is working.
My IMEI is still showing up in the "status" under about this phone, and its the same number as it appears in the back of the phone...
but for some reason I feel like this might have something to do with the fiddling of the secret code menu during my unlock oversea... since I had to go into the UMTS menu (which I believe is for EDGE)...
Since my IMEI isnt lost... anyone have any ideas what could have been the problem? This is getting beyond frustrating... would really appreciate the help!

[Q] No Mobile Network - Not Registering on Network

Background: (beginner level 1) I bought an i317 Note 2 online to use in Canada. Came with 4.1.2 so I did the downgrade to 4.1.1...ALJ2 modem and all to use the free unlock method. I followed the method to the letter and I thought it worked.
Problem: it just doesn't register on the network, it just displays a circle with a line through it where the network bars are supposed to be. I've spent hours, honestly, just searching through several threads and have tried almost all methods I came across to put it to stock and somehow get it to work. I've put in my Rogers sim card and even my friend's sim but same result.
So after months of quietly browsing through XDA and finding the solutions, I am forced to call the seasoned pro's to help me. Again, I've flashed the stock 4.1.1 ROM to put it back to stock and even flashed the modem for it separately and still no luck. The only other thing I suspect could be an EFS issue but I don't know if that is the case, or have the know-how to check and resolve if required. Please help.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
Thanks,
Allen.
First check your imei by doing *#06# could be corrupted imei.

And cheak ur apn
Yes, I checked and made sure that the IMEI matches to both the box and the sticker on the back. Also the APN appears for Rogers when I have the sim inserted and I am able to select it as well.
Having imei showing is a good sign
Use rom from here MA3 for Rogers you can also find correct odin from that thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004650
And flash modem from this post they have latest ma3 modem for Rogers too.

Thanks - pardon my ignorance but my Note 2 is from AT&T hence me putting the AT&T firmware and modem. Are you consciously suggesting me to put the Rogers Firmware and modem overwriting the AT&T stuff? If not, anything else I can try?

My bad sorry.. didnt see that you bought l317 model. Don't flash the rom above cuz it will automatically flash Rogers modem too. Did you try resetting apn settings to default with your new sim?

Yes - the APN automatically detects from the sim card but to be on the safe side I even created a new entry for Rogers. But I'm not getting any connectivity - no voice or data.
Calling all pro's - please help. I have even tried the method mentioned by this OP and still no luck.

NOW the problem is that its just stuck in Airplane Mode - a little Googlin' leads me to believe that it could be a corrupt EFS issue but I'm not savy enough to check and fix myself.
Guys please help.

Hopefuly its not efs problem cuz I know if you have efs issue you will get that yellow box with hardware info showing once you turn on the phone. You also mention that imei is still good and showing when you enter *#06# its more on enabling data connection with Rogers network.

Yes, the IMEI shows properly and matches to the sticker on the back. Also the baseband (modem) info also shows up correctly. It just remains in Airplane Mode and everytime I attempt to disable it, the phone pretends to be "processing" but the Airplane Mode option greys out - and the airplane mode remains active. I've spent all weekend on this and still no luck - guys I need help to bring my phone back to life. Earlier today I reflashed the 4.1.1 ALJ2 stock file through ODIN and still no change.
Also can someone point/guide me on how to restore the defaults on Service Mode/Menu - I bought it second hand and not sure if the previous owner made any changes trying to unlock the phone. I just want to revert everything back to stock to end with a working phone. Will flashing a stock ROM fix/revert any changes?
(I'm talking about the Service menu that is access using the *#197328640# used to unlock the phone)
Thanks.
Guys - I reflashed the original QCN (not sure if its proper or corrupted) that I got with the phone which has returned the phone to out of airplane mode but now I'm not catching any signal. I backed it up before proceeding to try with a dumbimei qcn with the aws mode thinking that might fix my problem. I'm really dumbfounded and need help. It's been 4 days now and I'm still without a phone...

So left the phone on overnight - woke up today and saw 1 bar and the phone registered on Rogers Network - so the problem now is low signal. I carried the phone around with me covering a variety of areas, especially those where signal should have been high, it still did not go above 2 bars... Please help.

I'm having a similar issue with just seeing the Circle with a line through it and after going to *#06# all that appears is "null/null" Any ideas to help me out please?
EDIT: solved it by wiping system and then flashing a ROM
Need help with lost unlocked
Hi, I've been trying to read as much as I can to solve my issue but no luck... I'm about to give up but thought someone here might be able to help hopefully!
Here's what happened, I bought an sgh-i317 running on 4.1.1 from someone online the phone worked properly at the time. I purchased an unlocked code from internet put it in everything worked fine. I later found the way to unlocked for free with the *#197.... but I said what the heck its already done... kept on reading got excited and decided to flash 4.1.2 rooted with odin... after that my nightmare began...
First I inserted an ATT sim and got the mm#2 sim not provisioned, then I tried a friends ATT it worked but when he putted back to his iphone he got his phone block so he had to call ATT to make it work again
Whenever I insert a T-Mobile sim or simple mobile I get the phone not allow mm#6
At first I thought the phone has been reported but I called ATT and they say it isn't, then I kept reading and nothing seems to repair this
I even reflashed everything to stock 4.1.1 to try to unlocked it with the *#197... again but it seems to do nothing now
then I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045563
where they say that once you are unlocked you shouldn't flash with odin... I guess I messed up...
My imei matches, the phone has not been reported, whenever I insert a foreign sim car I don't get the network lock screen but the phone not allow mm#6 message
I think that somehow when I updated to 4.1.2 with odin... I either lost or damage my unlock
could someone help?
Thanks in advance

[Q] I747m no network connection

Hi All,
Flashed my phone to CM10.1, lost my IMEI, would not connect to network. Managed to get my IMEI back, but would not connect to network. I attempted to go back to stock- and am running a stock ROM- but still cannot connect to network.
I have an i747m.
Carrier is Bell (I'm in Atlantic Canada)
Android Version: 4.1.1 (ROM: I747MVLDLK4)
Baseband: I747MUMLL1
Kernel is dated Nov 20/2012
Build is JRO03L.I747MVLDLK4
When I plug into Kies, it tells me "Your device's current firmware is not supported to update firmware via Kies."
Kies tells me "Current firmware version : PDA:LK4 / PHONE:LL1 / CSC:LK4 (XXX)"
When I try to do a Firmware upgrade and initialization, it tells me "SGH-I747M does not support initializing.
I'm at a complete loss- and really need help.
Thanks!
Have you tried Odin flashing the latest stock for your phone? You'll have to manually reboot into recovery and do a factory reset when it boot loops

I do not. My lockscreen says "Emergency Calls only". Anothing couple things worth noting;
Replaced my SIM card with a new one, and activated at Bell kiosk.
Phone shows I have a signal
When I try and make a phone call, I get message "Not registered on network"
Thanks

Another update.
I have managed to get a keys firmware upgrade to work. It indeed restored me to the stock Bell rom, I now have the Bell branding, which I didn't have before.
Phone states are now;
Version: 4.1.1
Baseband: I747MVLDLK4
Mobile network type: UMTS:3 (is this right?)
Service state: In Service (this wasn't the case before)
Mobile network state: Connecting
Device Status: Normal
So, it never seems to connect to network.
So then I swap to Mobile Networks
Network Mode: LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto)
APN: pda.bell.ca
MMSC: h t t p://mms.bell. ca/mms/wa penc
MMS proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN type: Internet + mms
Authentication Type: none
Any ideas where I should go to from here?
Thanks!
Bump? Any ideas?

NV Data got corrupted when you lost your IMEI. How did you inject your IMEI back onto your phone? In order to get data back you will need to restore NV Data back onto your phone. This will reload the correct data that is needed to get your phone back onto Bell networks.

Thanks for the response.
A close friend of mine did the injecting for me. So I'm not 100% sure on how he did it. Is there a method to properly restore the NV Data? I don't have a good backup, and my searches have been less than stellar.
Thanks!

Spoke with my friend.
IMEI was restored using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
Ended up taking the phone into Bell. They are going to try and see if they can get the problem covered under warranty.
Samsung would not fix it because I have a small crack in the case from when it was dropped the day after I bought it. They said I voided the warranty and wanted $400 to repair it.
Took it to a local repair place, they had it for two weeks- said they cannot fix it via software. They need to replace the board.$120.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I dump money into it?
Settings>more settings>mobile services>access point names. is any of the circles filled? I had a similar problem.

samsung has no right to void your warranty because there's a crack phones are always going to drop. plus the issue that you are having has nothing to do with the crack.
I better not get turned down of my warranty(s) just because a crack, scratch, ect. or I will sick my lawyers on them plus bring in the media.
MESSAGE FOR SAMSH1T:
if you void warrantys due to cracks
then maybe stop making the damn phones out of cheap plastic caseing. 5-600.00 phone when droped should not crack at all. you $h17 heads.
sorry for bringing this post back to life. just had to say what I had to say.
I've been having a similar issue as the original poster
I was running CM10.2 on Rogers perfectly fine until yesterday when suddenly the device stopped connecting to Rogers network. I made sure the Access Point names and stuff were fine, I rebooted. I then thought it might be an issue with CM and I flashed to latest Nightly, that didn't work so I tried restoring to a different ROM (Task650), wiped dalvik/cache. That didnt work, so tonight I did a full factory reset and used Odin to restore to the latest STOCK Rogers MD5.
And.......STILL won't connect to the network.
Any ideas. I'm out of warranty and rooted, so I'm sure Samsung won't do **** if this is a hardware issue. I'm not sure if its an IMEI issue as the original poster thought. I even changed SIM cards today with my carrier. Nada
Help please please please, thanks

That didnt work, so tonight I did a full factory reset and used Odin to restore to the latest STOCK Rogers MD5.
And.......STILL won't connect to the network.
Any ideas. I'm out of warranty and rooted, so I'm sure Samsung won't do **** if this is a hardware issue. I'm not sure if its an IMEI issue as the original poster thought. I even changed SIM cards today with my carrier. Nada
Help please please please, thanks

I had an almost identical experience with my S3, except im i747 on AT&T. Rooted phone randomly started acting up, then nothing. No mobile connection at all.
It's been about four days of constant searching and still nothing. To make matters worse im also stuck on 4.3 because I stupidly updated after returning to stock
I flashed a modem and occasionally ( by occasionally i mean 1 hour out of every day) I'll randomly get 4g/mobile service but no phone calls and be able to use my phone. Not entirely sure if the modem flash really did anything
I had the same problem when I updated to stock 4.3 I didn't have data but could text and call, I also for some reason couldn't go through the APN settings because it thought I didn't have a SIM in but I flashed a modem from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47817339&postcount=23 for d2att only! After I flashed and reboot viola! Data working perfectly. Maybe you can find a updated modem for the T-Mobile variant and that should do the job

[Q] AT&T Deactivated my SIM for Rooting / Flashing??

can AT&T deactivate my SIM or block my IMEI if they detect a custom ROM?....my SIM is not working anymore I Rooted . FreeGee'd and Restored to this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419802
I got 4G LTE fine (after changing to a different "pta" APN) but couldn't call. Found out I flashed the baseband for the E988 instead of the E980. I went to CWM and flashed the proper AT&T E980 baseband after a CWM wipe and restore again....my Sim still wasn't working
I saw some things that AT&T can deactivate a SIM if they detect a break in...can i just buy a new SIM?
I used the LGFlashTool. flashed back to stock completely. (relocked and unrooted) and it still gives me the red "X" near the signal strength and it won't save APN's
contacted online tech support said that "AT&T deactivated my SIM card as they thought my phone was being broken into and they thought it was stolen" is this something new? can I just get a new SIM at the AT&T store?
i've rooted and flashed an (including my significant other, co-workers at various places of work and my own handsets) HTC thunderbolt, HTC rezound, 2 Galaxy SIII's, a LG Optimus S, LG Optimus V, ZTE Warp,Galaxy SII, and even a Droid Razr and I have NEVER had the provider deactivate the Sim card because of hacking.
was the tech support person "Andy" trying to scare me?..is it true?..or did I bork the SIM by flashing the wrong baseband the first time?...because my SIM still isn't working
any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No just go in tell them your SIM card isn't working and you need another.. those people working at the att store don't care if your rooted or running custom roms.. unless your trying to do a warranty return...
sim card replacement should be free also
turns out....it wasn't the SIM card....new one was put in and it still didn't work..the guy looked at the IMEI and it said unknown....had no idea how it got there...but made a jab at LG for making cheap phones and said "theres a reason why we dont carry LG" .fortunately I was still in the return window process and got an exchange same day at a nearby corporate store...do you think it was something I did?
either way..not rooting or flashing until a year has passed

Thought I had read on some of the ROM threads that flashing an incorrect baseband can cause some major issues, such as wiping out your IMEI...
You simply needed to use LGFlashtools to return to stock and your phone would have been fixed. Always make a backup of your currently 'FULLY' working Rom that way if something goes wrong, you can return to stock and be up and running. What happened was that your baseband was incorrect after flashing the wrong modem. Flashing the correct modem didn't fix it fully because that partition became corrupt. Restoring a fully functional backup would have fixed that issue.
Glad you got your phone returned though. Hopefully they don't bill you when they see that your phone is rooted and hacked. They might.

oh no problem..they gave me a new phone because i returned it back to stock using the LG FlashTool
It was your own fault not the phones. Flashing an baseband not meant for your phone will cause this...

T-mobile S4 Stock Android 4.3, Cannot Unlock, IMEI unknown after attempt by localshop

Hi All,
I had purchased T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) with Stock android 4.3 while I was in usa, and want to use it in my home country now as I have left usa. I couldn't found any unlock solution on internet for stock android 4.3, and T-Mobile would not give me the unlock code. I tried third party services to provide unlock code and it did not work either. So I went to a local shop, and he screwed everything up. When I went back to the local shop to receive my phone (hoping it might have been definitely unlocked by them), he told me that he tried to downgrade it to 4.2.2 but it did not work (only after reading through all the forums I realize there is no way to go back to stock 4.2.2 if you are on stock 4.3 because of knox / bootloader issues on 4.3, leads me to think the shopowner did not really do his research before touching my phone, and no, he did not do any EFS backup). In an attempt to unlock my phone, he also flashed Metro PCS stock ROM on my phone, not to mention, my IMEI number is also 'Unknown' now. I managed to get back on T-Mobile stock 4.3 ROM now but still IMEI is unknown. I also tried to go to nearest Samsung center and they said they would not touch international phone models. At this point I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions how to get back my IMEI and or at the least to get the phone working to my country's network?
Thanks.
Try flashing the mk2 modem using odin. That may work but not sure.

The local shop broke it. Tell them to pay for it.
Also, the only reason T Mobile won't give you an unlock code is if the phone isn't paid for in full. If the phone is paid for in full, they HAVE to give you the unlock code.
Are you sure you didn't buy the phone in the US, then leave the country without paying the bill so you could use the phone internationally without paying full price? If not, there is no reason T Mobile wouldn't give you the unlock code. So there's some missing information in this story.
Also, we do not discuss how to change IMEI's on XDA. The only thing permissable on XDA about flashing IMEI's is restoring YOUR OWN IMEI from a backup. That is done by restoring the EFS partition. But you didn't have a back up so you can't do that. That means anyway to fix your IMEI involves what is an illegal hack and that discussion is expressly not permitted on XDA. That information is used for illegal purposes and XDA is not going to be the place where it's shared for legal reasons.

Hi skipjacks, thanks for responding. Nothing is pending with t-mobile, I was on prepaid account. I bought the phone like 10 days before leaving usa (due to emergency). T-mobile says my number on this new device should have being working for at least 45 days or so with refill balance. My cycle ended after 15 days of purchase and I really didnt see any reason to refill it as I was no more in usa. And no, I dont want to CHANGE my IMEI, only want to restore my own IMEI only. I am not sure if my EFS partition is corrupted, because I rooted my phone tried to backup EFS folder now (I know its too late but still), deleted it and rebooted (as a few threads suggested it would regenerate nv data files), but neither did I see any nv files when I did a back up now, nor after I rebooted. When I rebooted, the EFS folder did regenerate but there were no nv files in there. Also, after deleting EFS and regeneration the serial number was corrupted, but when I restored my backup, the serial number showed up correctly again. Also my current backup contains the imei folder with mps.code_bat file. I noticed that even imei folder was not regenerated on deletion of EFS and reboot. I somehow have the feeling that this is still indicating that my original EFS folder is still present (though I may be wrong, because I dont know). But my concern is the nv data files, which I dont see anywhere. I did come across several threads about imei corruption and restoration, but the only one I didnt come across was T-mobile SGH-M919 with stock android 4.3. I am wondering if this has some different file storage structure for imei (which again I dont know). At this point I am concerned about getting back my imei, I can get the unlock code from some reputed paid service again. I understand that open discussion about imei involving anything CHANGING IMEI is not allowed here. If anyone could just help me out restoring my original imei, even by pm, I would really appreciate it. I just dont want to throw away the phone and lose my money because of the error done by repair shop.

First off....the enter key is your friend. Hit it every so often when typing giant blocks of text like that.
Second, since your IMEI has been deleted, you now have to change it, even if you just want to change it back to what it was before. The process to fix it now is what can't be discussed here.
IF you had backed up your EFS partition, then it would be as simple as restoring it in recovery. That's all well and good. But your IMEI is now 0, so you have to change it to what it was.
But all that aside, you went to a store and they broke it. Take it back there and raise holy hell until they fix it for you or buy you a new one. I know consumer protections are stronger in some countries than others, but wherever you are, yelling and screaming is a universal language.

Whether your file is missing, modified, or corrupted, you need your /efs folder to restore it. You do not have have a nandroid backup or the /efs folder. I am sorry but the simplest we can put it without sounding harsh, you're screwed. You need to request the local shop give you a replacement phone or credit to get a new one.
Update: I went back to the shop and told them "You broke it, you fix it, I don't know how and I don't care, you gotta fix it". They managed to fix the imei number somehow. Regarding unlock, the shop ended buying the unlock code themselves. They mentioned that no one is able to unlock T-Mobile S4 with Stock 4.3 as of now without unlock code, unless they have some device like Z3x box. The phone is finally unlocked and working fine on my network. (YES, A HUGE HUGE RELIEF).
Everything is fine, except for 2 issues.
1. I want to backup my EFS folder so that I don't enter into trouble with IMEI again. I tried EFS Pro, but its not working. All I see is "'Initializing ADB server..." (the phone is rooted, usb debugging mode enabled, and supersu permission granted when prompted). I also tried to backup using Andromizer, but it says "Notification: File not found in /storage/emulated/0/Amdromizer/efs/efs.img". What is my best option as of now to backup and store my imei safely somewhere?
2. I am having issues with Wi-Fi. Before the shop flashed my phone, it was all good, but now it doesn't auto-connect to my home Wi-Fi anymore. Everytime I reboot or get out of range, I have to manually select my home network everytime and also enter the password everytime. Nothing has changed on my router. The other Samsung device that I have still auto-connects to my home Wi-Fi as usual. How can I fix this?
Thanks.

For the efs you can back it up using recovery. Just boot to recovery and its one of the options in the backup menu. The resulting file will be like a few KB. Its supposed to be small. Dont worry

[Q] vs985 problems after downgrade. advice?

I got my phone around the begining of last month and decided the other night that it was time to root as I have rooted every android device I have owned since the wildfire s. I had previously taken the OTA so I was on vs98512b. I used LG flashtool to downgrade to vs98510b. The downgrade it's self went fine. I then rooted using stumproot again nothing out of the ordinary. I downloaded Supersu and enabled survival mode. I tried to check for New updates and it says "your phone is not registered" I found that to be strange so I checked some other settings and found that my imei was 000000000000000. I found that to be strange. I attempted to make a call and my phone switched to roaming and I lost all my signal bars. I performed a factory reset and after the reset I have all network function, I'm connected to Verizon 4g lte and can make calls, no more roaming. I checked the imei again at this point and it is still showing 000000000000000 and I was still unable to update. So I then reflashed the stock firmware for vs98510b. Again I had the roaming issue that went into being unable to connect to network. Again I performed a hard rest on my phone and got full network function back. I had a new micro SIM tucked away for a rainy day so I put the New SIM card in and activated it with no change to imei. What can I do from here? My phone is working fine with the imei being 000000000000000 it seems like the only issue is not being able to get an OTA, when I try using Verizon's upgrade assistant it won't even list my phone. If I check my Verizon it shows up as a non vow device. Thanks in advanced.

have you backuped the efs partition like the rooting thread said
Of course not. That would have been to easy. If I had I would have been able to avoid making a new thread. I really do Google first. Except with the back up of the eds partition. I knew nothing about that until I searched imei problems.

VS985: Lost IMEI, Can't Make Phone Calls
I'm having problems with my VS985 after downgrading including losing the IMEI and especially the ability to make phone calls.
So I got a used VS985W that had 35B installed on it for one of my kids. Having put CyanogenMod on my LG G3 (VS985) successfully, I started down that path. I used the TOT method to flash back to 10B, then used KDZ to upgrade to 12B. Then I rooted, installed TWRP, and then CyanogenMod. But I couldn't make phone calls.
There are numerous things I've tried, but it's still unable to make phone calls, usually giving out of service area, but when trying to use the *#06# code, I get an error of "missing IMMI or such".
At one point I found the IMEI had gone to all zeros. I managed to find a method to fix that. I also switched out SIM cards between phones; same issue - it's the phone and firmware.
The only thing that seems to fix it is to go back to stock 35B. Then it makes phone calls. But then I can't root it and restore the apps/data we backed up from the previous phone (LG Spectrum running CM 11).
I have done hours of searching and reading these forums along with others. I've redone the downgrade and root and TWRP install and tried numerous things but still can't get phones calls in stock versions less than 35B or in CyanogenMod (12.1, not 13, which I did try to install but never could get it to reliably boot back up after an installation, so finally gave up and went back to 12.1).
Anyone heard of this before? I can't find it. I did see in this thread post #4:

Unfortunately this link doesn't work (moved or deleted). I'm continuing to search, but it almost seems like I managed to royally muck up some partition I didn't mean to? I've tried following the advice of a number of posts, too, on related, similar aspects, but I'm getting to a point of slight insanity. Along with a kid that wants their phone (and the old one has the older style SIM so not just that easy to deal with just switching unfortunately).
Any guidance or thoughts Much appreciated. Am going to continue to try the various things I'm reading about. Thanks, -Mark
