I don't have my Shield with me. Does it properly recognize the home button now? Figures the first day I didn't bring it to work and something gets updated I want to test

don't have it with me either

Home button is not recognized for me.

Hm, yet another update. Wonder what this one does? Yeah, Home button doesn't work for me either.

it doesn't recognize the home button but i mapped the nvidia button as a click key for the home button, so every time i push the nvidia button it acts as a home button :good:

Works fine for me; just have to play around with the settings.
To get the home key working (so you dont get stuck in an app, or in a game and the back button doesn't work) you have to disable the IN:GPIO-KEYS... then in the settings, I have 'Enable special system devices' un-checked.
That is the first thing I suggest doing on every profile, and also map something to "Execute Function" - Mapper so you can bring up the mapper and you don't get stuck in a game if your settings are wrong.

Nice. I never would have thought disabling the back and power key would suddenly allow the home key to function properly (Back key as well works like it should). I always had the other thing unchecked but never tried actively disabling those two keys. Nice find.

Fixed with reinstall

Wipe your configuration.
Latest version is working fine.
What happens with home button? It does nothing or it just does Home function?

Tincore, I have shield and I tried two games with your apk. Mass effect and real racing. Where can I download some shield profiles?
Mass effect have difficult configuration buttons because it use touch screen for different things. Left half screen to walk and run (I don't know which option is better for this) and right half to camera. The problem is when you want to jump over an obstacle... It use touch screen again where you were.
Real racing works well, but a lot of times, the left joystick block and don't turn the car... Which option must choose?
Thanks

Actually I don't know if anybody has organized a thread in any forum. For shield it would make sense.
I dont have a Shield myself so it is difficult to tune those issues. Can you enable touches on screen and record a small video showing the issue?
Showing touches on screen (on developer options) will also help you understand what each mode does.

Hello everyone,
I am not sure if all Tincore profiles work on different devices. On the OUYA forums someone has started a thread for people to post their profiles.

Currently you cannot use one on another device.

If somebody would like to control his Linux/Windows and possibly Mac with the Shield (or any other Android device) can try the attached server.
Unzip and execute the script or the jar directly!

great to see the home button now working for the shield, being able to map the menu button to the nvidia button makes the device far easier to use, still can't believe nvidia didn't include one.

In the current beta you can remap power (nvidia) as well. In my opinion, for a power button, it is too big and too in the middle.

Repurposing the volume up/down buttons?

i really miss hardware scroll buttons.
on the rhodium there are two little side buttons for adjusting the volume. i'd really like to repurpose these as scroll up/down. For example, to work inside a browser. Unfortunately, there is no standard option (i can find) to redefine the purpose of these buttons.
i'm hoping there's another way. eg registry hack etc.
thanks for any help,
Use AEBPlus
I am doing exactly the same thing with my Volume Up/Volume Down, I've turned them into arrow keys. The lack of these is my biggest annoyance with the TP2.
That said, I have noticed a little flakiness - most of the time they work fine, but sometimes I hit them and they don't scroll as I expect. Then a moment later they start working.
Anyway, it's much better than not having them re-assigned.
Incidentally, AEBPlus has a cool feature where you can tell it not to remap the Volume keys when you're on a call, so they can still be used then.
Thanks for the tip, i'll give it a go!
AEBPlus works? I'll try it. heard from another TP2 user that it caused his device to freeze up resulting in a hard reset...

Been OK for me so far
Yes, AEB Plus works (no hard reset), but I can only add the windows button. The <-- (back) button does not work when mapped using AEB Plus.
Also, if you're using the JBed Midlet manager, the arrow keys automatically scroll up and down. It works well with Opera Mini.
AEB plus does nothing for me... i just have a list of buttons I can't do anythign with, a giant memory leak and crashing.

Yeah there appears to be no way to open an entry from the list using touch alone - must be a bug.
Highlight one of the buttons in the list, flip out your keyboard and then press enter/return. It will open the Edit menu where you can assign that button to something.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! lol, I was wondering why people were talking so much about an app that does nothing
Did you guys install to main memory? I had no problems with AEB Plus on my 1.19.707.2 ROM.
I could assign the vol up/down keys and could also add the windows key. It is a bit tricky using the windows key as the first press brings up the programs tab.
I added the back key also, but couldn't get it to work. I didn't touch the send and end keys.
BTW, I used AEBPlus v2661

Press the entry in the list and keep holding for a few seconds more.
I've been using it since I had my touch hd and it works perfectly and I haven't found it to cause any issues.
Personally i assign one volume button to a task switcher (spb ms3 task manager) which makes multi-tasking far easier. You can then map double clicking to the original volume functions and even long hold to something else useful such as comm manager.
Awesome Tip. AEBplus Confirmed to be working fine on TP2 from T-Mobile (still stock rom for now). I made the volume buttons map to up and down like suggested but also made a long hold for volume up do "enter/activate" and a long hold for down do rotate the display.
my phone (telus rom) keeps getting screwed up when I install AEBplus and gets back to normal when I undo it.

[Q] Optical Joystick Stopped Working

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my optical joystick doesn't scroll anymore. The button still works if I press it down, but I can't scroll through any text fields. Its not a deal breaker, but I was wondering if anybody else ran in to this problem and if there is a solution.
Is it dirty? A couple weeks ago, mine stopped responding and it was a thin film of something over the button. I cleaned it and all was good.
I've tried cleaning it, but hasn't helped.
I've also found out that with out the optical joystick, I can't access any of the menu items when I'm in recovery.

I found the default trackpad file that may help but I'm not sure. Flash this through recovery. Use your volume buttons to move up and down like suggested earlier. If it don't work it won't hurt your phone. It's the original trackpad mapping file. If that don't work then I would suggest using your backup ROM and see if that works.

I'll give this a try tonight and let you know how it works. I should also state, that flashing my original recovery image didn't help either. I'm pretty sure that is a hardware failure, but I'm still holding some hope.

The optical joystick works in ClockworkMod for me. I think that's what he's talking about. (Implying that it's not the ROM).
Well, sorry that it didn't work.
Sometimes I wish mine would stop working. Damned thing scrolls my home screen randomly.
Anyone know how to intentionally disable the scrolling ability of the trackpad but still retain the click function?

Safe way to shutdown/power down Fire TV?

I used to turn off power for any unused devices, even it takes only few watt. There is no menu to shutdown and turn off fire TV before I cut its power. I'm wondering whether it is safe to cut its power at any time. Or it's not necessary to have a menu selection to shutdown system? Thanks.

It should be safe to just unplug, but if you use it often eventually it could cause a problem either in the firmware or the the connection itself. A simple solution would be something like a Woods wireless remote outlet. The one I have comes with 3 plugs and a remote with a switch for each. The plug can take a bit of room on the surge protector but so does the FTV power cord. I just press and hold the select and play buttons on the FTV remote for about 5 seconds and when the screen goes black I hit the power button for the outlet.

Get a Microsoft remote (MCE Remote). The power button on the MCE remote will put the firetv back to sleep. When you hit the power button again it turns back on, or hitting any button on the firetv remote.
I actually prefer the MCE remote because it offers more function when using XBMC and VIMU. I can actually time skip vs ffwd, hit stop, etc... Only complaint is there is no home button. The microsuck button does not take me home, and I have not figured out how to program it on the MCE remote.

As i've stated in another thread, "sleep" on this is pretty much the same as sleep on a regular android device. It's still fully awake, although the CPU might be downclocked a little.
As for home, you need F12 to get home.

I love low watt setups, so I know the mind set for the OP. It would have been nice to be able power off the device! I was told that lab126 felt the footprint was small enough in standby that it wasn't needed. They also wanted to be able to update when not in use, etc...
You could hook it up the ftv to a power strip. I've seen power strips that have one active outlet and shuts off the rest of the outlets when the primary device is not used. That could be another option?
Rbox- Do you know where the MCE remote values are stored in the FIreTV. I want to see if I can modify so the windows button is f12.

Since it shows up as a regular HID keyboard I don't think it has a keylayout file. What I do know, is that the kernel could probably do it. The HID layer has a quirks system that allows you do to funky stuff for individual HID devices. Do you know the usb vendor and device id for the remote? I can take a look at the quirks stuff tonight and see if we can do anything. It might have to wait until custom kernels can be loaded though.

I'm at work but I can pull the HID/Device info when i get home tonight. I will PM you the info, so we're not clogging the OP's thread.
It takes 3 to 4 watts to stream a movie - measured on a Kill a Watt meter. I forgot what the reading was on sleep mode but its not much. The max watts I've seen was 5 watts and that's while installing an app.

Try rebooting your box and without loading any external apps, see if it goes to sleep after a certain time. My guest is that an app is still running in the background preventing sleep mode.
When I first installed XBMC that happened too. I found out that XBMC was still running in the background because I didn't properly exit the app. Clicking the home button on the remote just leaves XBMC running in the background. Exit by pressing XBMC power off button and setting the system power saving timer to shut down at a interval during idle works.

Alternative way to turn off FireTv...

I was looking around online to see if there were any alternative ways to turn off the FireTv. I know about the Play/Pause and Select combo, but has anyone heard of this?
This doesnt make any sense to me. If you're using a keyboard/mouse combo ( K400r here ) and you hold Fn+Esc... The FireTv turns off immedately. Both in FireTv screens and XBMC... The white light goes out too... Then click a button on the remote and its instatntly on.
Edited: Also just noticed that on the keyboard, there is a "Power PC'' button at the top that does the same thing...
On my K400r, there is no Fn ( blue lettering ) on the Esc key, so I have no idea whats its actually doing.. Its weird that the FireTV will sleep even in XBMC, which is known as usually not possible ( have to go back to FireTV screen )

Anything that's interpreted by Android as the POWER button, including the key combinations you mentioned, will put the FTV (or any other Android device) to sleep. I've seen mention of some third-party BT remotes being able to put the FTV to sleep with their POWER button.
If you're rooted, my XBMC repo has a screensaver that can put the FTV to sleep, and also my Confluence++ skin can put it to sleep via the XBMC power menu. Both methods simply simulate a POWER button press.
Good deal bro! Thanks. I'll check it out tonight when I get home
I'm new to the fire.. How can I load just the screensaver? Anyway to just get the screensaver??

It only works if you're rooted, and you need to give XBMC root/SU permissions from within the screensaver's settings or the skin's settings.

If you have the Power menu enabled in my skin settings, does the Sleep command put your FTV to sleep? If so, then the screensaver should also work fine if you have the settings in my screensaver set to Sleep.
Yeah .. Figured it out . the screensaver was enabled but not selected under the option under settings/appearance. Thanks

K400 Plus works great with Shield TV.

I just got it today for only 30$ and it works really well and even has more functionality!
There is volume buttons that work,a REAL working back button as F1,the one button for recent apps as F3 (OTA needs to fix it to make recent apps always show up instead of stupidly clearing the list),and menu I=I is F4.
glad to know i bought it for 40 euro

it connect's via an tiny usb receiver so should work out of the box
Oops,I have a stub that connects it from the previous K400r keyboard I have, not sure if the stub alone fits correctly.
It is hard as the dickens to stick in there, but I got the stub alone hooked in and it still works fine.
The mousepad works like my K400r,but takes a little more to get used to.
I did as the picture instructions showed, and it works immediately.
I got mine at Best Buy for about 37$ tax-and-all including the 2 year warranty.
Right Click in Kodi
I have both the K400 and K830 keyboards, there is a issue I keep having with the Right Click mouse button in Kodi.
The Right Click mouse button normally acts as "Select" only and I must follow the selection with a "Enter" command to continue into the selection.
But if I select "Reboot" from the Nvidia Shield TV power icon, then after reboot the "Right Click" behavior changes to "Select & Enter" in one click, which is my desired behavior.
Problem is that to get this behavior can sometimes be elusive, because the reboot trick does not always work.
Anyone understand what is going on here ?????

When you connect the dongle it automatically detects it, no pairing or anything involved. Yes the trackpad works as well, you will see your mouse cursor just like on a regular pc/desktop.

Must be a "Leanback" thing because I loaded Full Android Marshmallow v1.2, and the keyboard right click is always "Select and Enter".
I've got the K830 as well and it works as well If you need backlighting. Don't really use it for Kodi though.
Hi everybody,
I am also using this keyboard with my Shield TV.
I just have three issues / questions:
1.) Can you adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad?
2.) Is there a way to zoom in with the keyboard while e.g. using chrome browser?
3.) sometimes the signal of the tiny usb receiver is bad. It hardly recognizes the mouse movements. Did someone else face this problem?
Thanks!
You can supposedly adjust it,but may need to hook it to a computer and get the right tool to change it if that actually modifies the internals of the keyboard itself, otherwise I hope they make an app for Android to allow changing the settings of it.
Double tapping with left click on webpages zooms in at least on Opera Browser,I hope Chrome is bearable to you since F1 is a REAL back button on K400 Plus.
That is a general issue with the signal, try moving the Shield TV by rotating it to make the receiver closer to facing towards you,I had to hook in my USB hub in the end to suspend it in the air,and it helps the signal a lot more,it was even harder to insert it there, but it works.
I got a male to female usb cable for the dongle/plug and faced it toward the couch. Works great now.
