Camera issues - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Any other verizon Htc ones having the purple/red low light issues? I just received mine yesterday and after about 10 seconds in the camera it will start to turn red or purple in low light. The first shot is usually ok but after that it gets really bad. Is there a consensus this is a hardware issue and not software related?

Is it the screen itself (while in the camera viewer) that's turning purple / red? And are we talking low enough light where it requires the flash? I'm curious if the shots you're taking while it's doing this are flashing or not - and the ones that are really bad, what's bad about them? Not focusing on anything?

I know exactly what you're talking about and it happens to me too. I found that changing the ISO to 100 alleviates the issue a bit, but its still there. I found a HUGE thread on this a week ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42400071
It seems it definitely gets worse when the phone is hot. I noticed this problem REALLY bad when I was trying to take pics while the phone was charging. It seemed to be better the next day though. I will try it again tonight.

My dad actually got an HTC One today as well so it was perfect to compare the camera. His camera doesn't seem to have the same problem ours do. I took pictures in similar lighting and his didn't depict any of the red/blue tint that I would get sometimes . Kinda bummed out. I'm afraid of returning it and then getting one that is even worse or getting dead pixels. Not to mention that you can no longer root/unlock at this point. Using flash will always fix the issue, but I don't think I want to resort to that.
No idea what to do.

Here is a picture to give you an idea how bad it is. When the flash is on it doesn't look like that but it's really out of focus. Even when I turn the iso to 100 it still looks the same. I to am worried about replacing it and getting one with worse issues. I'm thinking about going the moto x route with all the issues these phones seem to have.

I would imagine those scenarios are a small percentage of the time right? I'm not saying they're not noteworthy, but don't go with the Moto X just on camera alone. I tried out a Droid Maxx and the One's camera runs circles around it. That said, my one complaint with the One is that it can't handle situation's like you're describing - the uber-low-light scenarios that really need a flash. The problem is it doesn't light up the flash when it's trying to focus, and therefore can't focus because it can't see anything to focus on, and the flash shots will, a lot of times, end up blurry. The non-flash shots are pointless in that low amount of light, purple/reddish hue or not. .

Flickering screen

I have noticed that my screen is flickering ever so slightly in all applications. it is bearable but slightly annoying. Could this be hardware related and will I have grounds for a warrenty replacement? should I wait and see if any OTAs resolve it?
Everything is stock. Brightness is set to auto.
I have problems with shadowgun crashing when there is an explosion etc. possibly related?

Yeah, i noticed this too on my One X I've mostly seen it while my mobile data connection was on, and it seems to decrease a lot but not completely disappear when it's off. I also got a weird message yesterday while charging, saying something along the lines of "your phone is using too much current, -" (the message was in dutch, not sure what the exact message is in english) my phone turned off before I could completely read it. I wonder if those issues are somehow related. Maybe the screens backlight isn't getting enough power when the radio is on. Anyways, I'm not an expert, so don't quote me on that.
I also heard the tegra 3 drivers are buggy, so shadowgun crashing and performance drops etc. will hopefully be resolved in future updates.
I've got it as well I think it's a driver issue the last thing I want to do is go for a replacement and that to have more dud stuff as this is the only dud thing on mine. Everything else is fine apart from flickers now and then.

@backstabz0r for screen flickering pls refer to my earlier ans and for your problem which you got warning message thats common warning you get when you have put phone in charge and if you using it for gaming which consumpts more nergy then, message will be" battery consumption is more then the supply"
so suggest ou to let battery get charged till 30 % and then use it for gaming or any other apps
I've read a few threads here regarding the flicker and it seems some people are confusing flicker with something that I really don't know what to call.
Flicker for me is when there's a stroboscope-ish effect, like when you place your sight just above an old CRT monitor, or when a fluorescent light is on it's last breath. Not when what you see on the screen makes random movements a few pixels in any direction.
I have flicker on my HOX. But it's only noticeable on lower brightness levels. This happens in all applications and in settings menu, everything with white or light grey background, so not related to badly written apps. But I wonder if this really CAN be software related? Has this happened with other models from various manufacturers?

I've got what your describing quite a few users have. I believe it could be down to the drivers for the Soc. Might just need a driver update. Only the next update we can tell if this fixes the issue or not. We need to pressure HTC regarding this issue.

But is it really possible that a driver issue can cause flicker? I've never seen it before.
I tweeted @htcdev earlier today about it but no response yet. I wonder what the best way to make htc aware of this is. Contacting their lousy customer support feels pointless, it won't reach the people who actually can make an impact.

Right guys untick animations in Developer options, restart give it a while, go into camera you'll notice glitches, play a YouTube video you'll notice green bar on the left hand side of the screen in full screen mode. Untick animations and this disappears. It's worrying not sure what to do now.
Edit: can't repeat this but will keep trying as something did trigger it off for the screen to go like that.
Yeah, with flicker I didn't mean anything like having low fps when scrolling through stuff. I meant a quite noticable fluctuation in the brightness of the backlight if that makes sense. It is indeed quite like a CRT monitor with a low refresh rate. I haven't seen it yet when my screen brightness was high, but I'm not sure if it doesn't occur on higher brightness settings. It is also not constantly flickering, It only seems to act up when my mobile data connection is active, although I have seen a very slight flickering with data turned off. I really hope this isn't a hardware issue, the rest of my phone is pretty much perfect and I'd rather not send it in for a replacement after all the trouble I had with my sensation :/
I have the flicker issue, the screen flickers near the center a little bit to the right though, and it is reall irratating, but i can only see it when viewing pictures and on greys.
I hope it isn't hardware!!
tried all the ideas given to stop it but none work for me, still seems to flicker
Me too
I have the screen flickering too.
Im reluctant to return it as apart from this the handset is solid.
It on appears on certain colours making me think its software related.
I also have the exact same flicking issue. From what I have heard it is a software issue rather than a hardware issue. Just to be on the safeside though I am returning my One X to Phones4U for a replacement. Will be interesting to see if the replacement has the same issue.
I made a thorough check yesterday. I downloaded a brightness control app where you can write what brightness level you want so i tried from 3% which was the lowest possible step by step up to 15%. At 15 the flicker stops so its not 30 as I said before. this is my only issue too so I dont dare to replace it just to get a worse phone. My sister is getting one next week so gonna compare them.

I noticed this too, but i believe its a software issue only. When I unlock the phone, the screen flickers while sense runs and the three menu button appears then goes. Once its all settled its fine. I believe this is to do with sense rather than a phone issue, and will be addressed via OTA.

Not so sure about it being a specific Sense issue as I have noticed the screen flicking in 3rd party apps such as Spotify.

Flickering white pixels in some places?

Just received my second One X from amazon UK (first was sent back due to charging issues).
Been getting some weird things with the screen on this one, which I haven't heard of in the other threads. I have a fair amount of pixels on the screen that will flicker white on certain screens, particularly on the pull-down notification. The pixels seem to be roughly distributed along two vertical lines on the screen, and there's about 20-30, although it's hard to tell since they never flicker all at once. The white pixels don't show up in screenshots, so I don't think it's a software issue, although it's possible, I suppose.
They never show up on solid colors as far as i can make out, but i get them on the camera preview and in the notification drawer (seems to be that shade of grey combined with the fine texture that sets it off). Very occasionally I get it on the bubbles live wallpaper. I also get it when viewing screenshots of the notification pulldown, so it seems to be the colour/texture, not the actual window being drawn.
I can't tell if this is a software or hardware issue.. I've done a few reboots and a factory reset, which did absolutely nothing. It's always the same pixels, which suggests hardware to me, but then it's oddly specific circumstances that set it off.
Any ideas/anyone else getting similar issues?
Edit: re-reading your post it may not be what I thought. Info below for the "usual" screen flicker issue.
It's a well known issue that pretty much everyone has. The backlight flickers slightly due to a voltage drain when the CPU is busy, causing whites and greys to turn a slightly warmer "colour" for a moment.
It's fixed in the 1.29.11 (not 1.29.7) update which just rolled out in Europe and should follow in the UK in about 2 weeks. It takes up to 2 more weeks after the update for it to monitor the voltage of your individual screen and learn to compensate so the flicker goes away.
Yeah, it's not the backlight, it's literally single pixels flickering from their correct colour to white.
So I've been through the standard factory reset crap with customer service, and they're recommending I sent it in for repair. Has anyone had any luck with the repair centre (I'm in the UK)?
Not sure if it's even worth sending it back since I'm still not sure if it's a hardware or software issue. If it's a software issue, will they fix it, or will they just turn it back and go "nope, couldn't find anything"?
I have EXACTLY the same issue, but with two pixels only, I'm almost convinced it's a hardware fault because I'm on a custom rom and it's still there, I got mine without a warranty though so I'll have to deal with it, any suggestions other than acceptance?
I have same issue, i change the rom and now its fine. it was almost on 3 or 4 roms, and finally its disappear

[Q] Notificatio light is dim

My notification LED is hard to see when you are not near the phone. It's just a tiny dot. It's a lot weaker and dimmer than the one on my S5. Is that normal?
Really? No answers?
Yes
Seems dimmer than my m7 was, but not too bad

This is one of my gripe when getting the phone as I would like to rely heavily on my notification LED rather than taking my phone out of sleep and looking at the lock screen. When I had my HTC One X, I relied heavily on the notification light AFTER I used cyanogen mod to stop the "blinking" LED and changed it so it always stayed on. I wish HTC would at least add this option onto our M9 at least.
Unfortunately no one really have not said anything about this in their own review which is a shame as HTC will most likely keep this flaw in their next upcoming flagship phone.
Call me hipster but when the HTC One X & m7 came out, the only problem I had with these phones was the notification LED. No reviewers ever said anything about it and only complained that the power button being in the "wrong" place.
When the m8 came out, and reviewers reviewed it, none really complained about the "black bar" except a minority of people including myself (yes yes I understand you need it for drivers). Just wished they could have flipped the LCD screen so I wouldn't have to reach so far up with my thumb
Now the M9 came out, all the reviewers complain about the black bar still being there (most now at least say it's for driver purposes). However, I have yet to see any reviewer mentioning that this bar has shrunk a little when comparing to the M8.

Interesting. I don't like the notification LED at all, and with there was an option to disable it. That LED uses a lot of power.
I like the smaller black bar I must say.does make a big difference compared to the m8
my LED is only visible in total darkness - you do get used to not having it
That little light sucks.....
It needs to be twice the size...and not buried in a speaker grill...g
It's as twice as big and bright as the one that was/is implemented in the One S so I'm happy with the way it is.

ugh, i got me a used m9 some time ago and the light doesnt seem to work at all? Anyone had the issue? Since it has warranty at the original store im considering to bring it back for warranty... Anyone did that already?
My notification LED has faded to the point that it is no longer visible, not even in a dark room. I will be sending this phone back under warranty repair (we have 2 year warranties in Australia). Hopefully I will get a new phone with a new battery.
I do use my notification light, especially at night when my phone is on silent. New / refurb phone will be a great upgrade for my partner.

Emergency (I think)

My G4 has just started showing screen burn in, mostly the notification bar. It appears faintly red, and according to the burnt-in time, it was less than 20 minutes ago. I have been using it alot since 3 days ago, and have left the screen static for far longer than this without problems. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Update: things seem to "burn in" after just a few minutes of being on-screen. Only solid white images and text do this, and they leave behind a red shadow on lighter grey or blue colors
update 2: "burn-in repair" apps definitely work, but my status icons burn in again, in the same way, within 5 minutes. I'm honestly crushed, as I loved this phone. It seems I'll have to return it..
Could there be a fix, guys? I'd hate to have to return it
Try this. Use phone for 30+min. Plug charger when phone is on. Turn off phone and wait blue battery sign. Look at top side screen. There you will see al signs. This is my post with same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3289496

What? I've not heard of most of the issues you described....
I've noticed a small amount of image retention (not burn in... LCD's dont burn in!) when booting into TWRP, but when actually using a ROM there's no issues.
I have no idea what you're talking about with loose motherboards or overheating... I've seen a couple of reports of a green blob on the camera, glitchy LCD's was a single batch of Verizon/Sprint models, and I don't know what you mean by dead pixel clusters.
Sounds like you're looking for reasons to dislike the phone...!

No, I love the phone, believe you me. The motherboard thing has several threads here, and the other issues are mostly isolated, but also mostly carrier specific. You have to dig a little to find them. It's just coming down to risk. I want as little risk for as much return as possible, so for me, all those reported problems (even though they are few and far between) are just as important and search-worthy as things like chipset, ui lag, camera tech, screen size, etc are to other people.
The lg g4, on paper, was perfect in every way, and so I assumed the return on the investment was going to be far greater than any risk. Now that something happened though, I just can't get over it.
It's an electronic device. Logically speaking there will be some with issues. You can't avoid that.
Reading forums isn't a good way to find out about the reliability of a device. People are more inclined to post problems and negativity on review sites and forums. There are far many more G4's out in the wild with no problems whatsoever than ones out there with issues that you describe. Hint: If you have to hunt around to find mention of a problem, it's probably not very widespread...

Pixel XL night light mode very orange

I recently received a refurbished Pixel XL from Google (warranty). The night light mode seems very orange and dark compared to my old one. Is this how it is supposed to be?
No.
The only time I've seen my night light orange was on a custom ROM that I guess had it miscalibrated or using the wrong driver.
Have you tried wiping and updating to the latest firmware yet?
I factory reset and it's up to date. Looks like it's going back.

What is your brightness set at. I can make mine look like that if I turn the brightness down to 25 percent or so. Once my brightness is up to 60 percent or so it looks exactly like the images of it I can find on the web.
It looks different because the camera is not able to pick up the proper exposure, I think its the same as ours. The mode is pretty yellowish/orangish indeed.

That is exactly how mine looks. There is nothing wrong with your device. If you don't like the way it looks perhaps you best not use it. I only use it for notifications at night and not for reading. It's just too dark to read an article. So it looks like your first return was a waste of time since it's not going to change no matter how many times you RMA the device.

Orange Night Light
Has anyone found a solution to this yet besides sending it back, mine had the same issue and the next one they send me was the same way.
Enabling sRGB mode in Developer Options makes Night Light look much less orange on my Pixel XL.
In Android O it gives the option to control the amount of tint you want. On my replacement pixel, the tint isn't as strong as my first one.
Just chiming in, It looks VERY orange to me.
oddly enough after seeing this thread i got three pixels together (from my friends) two XL's and one small to compare them.
The smaller pixel did have a very heavy orange glow compared to both the XL's, but no where close to this.
I have an RMA XL I'm not keeping and sending back, orangeness is identical to my current XL.
Howdy y'all, just to chime in on this for those who are still interested/find this via a search:
I first noticed this on my dad's refurbished xl some time ago, because mine (got it back when the phone first launched) didn't look anything like that.
Just today I got a refurbished xl from Google, and it has the same very orange nightlight.
So it seems that the refurbished ones have this problem, not sure why perhaps hardware issue?
As mentioned, a fix is to enable sRGB in dev option as that makes it look more Amber like it's supposed to, or just turn the nightlight intensity down.
Mainly though I'm curious what is up with this and why the refurbs are different?

On my refurbished pixel XL when on turn the data saver on and the 1/4 moon looking thing on the phone dims and the data saver turn the top and the bottom orange, not the screen. The screen is dark but not orange.
