Poor ZL is the bastard child - Sony Xperia ZL

Search eBay or Craigslist for Xperia Zs and you will find many going for $400-$500, search for ZLs and you can find them in the low $300s and even lower!
Today I bought a black C6506 off a guy in San Diego for $260. He said he paid $550, but was complaining the cell phone exchange services would only give him $150. It's not in immaculate condition, but it is unlocked and has an unlockable bootloader. I could have easily brought him down to $240, but considering I paid the same (plus tax which made it $600) I felt it was a good value.
His loss. This will be for a friend.

At $260 he got ripped off... I've gotten ~$450 offers easily... Craigslist is never a good place to sell if you want a decent return though.

It is if you are selling something people know. No one knows the ZL so no one made him good offers I will make sure it goes to a good home. You will probably not sell it as high as on eBay, but you won't have to pay eBay/Paypal fees, so a lot of the times Craigslist is better.

I still like the ZL over the Z coz of its looks. Only if the ZL had a glass back it wud look premium but I have no complaints against it. This device being so rare in the market, ppl get confused as to which device is this. Makes u feel special

I paid $535 for the ZL in Amazon last month and look at the price now, you can buy a Z for $520. While the iPhone keep in a good value for more time, Android phones suffer low value in the market after few months.

I love the ZL for its rarity. And market value doesn't bother me at all since I always sell my phones to friends and family for half the price I bought them for.

I have both Z and ZL. Prefer the ZL - the Z is too awkward in terms of size and flaps. And the ZL has a better display (very noticeable and corroborated by GSMArena) and a couple of neat extras (IR and Camera button).
Everything else is identical, functionally.
Both were well under £400 from Amazon - new, unlocked etc.)

I don't understand why it's not popular..
When I see people talking about Honami saying "I wish it had smaller bezels" i think of ZL.
I think ZL looks better than Honami....

It's not because ZL suck or what. Simply, Sony markets the Z as the flagship and doesn't sell the ZL everywhere compared to the Z.

It should be the other way, the ZL is more cheaper than the Z, which mean the ZL have more market penetration for the price.

The Z doesn't have a camera button?? I thought it did. The Z never appealed to me because of the flaps. I really don't my phone to be waterproof. The Z got picked up by more carriers than the ZL, so that has helped make the Z more known than the ZL.

No it doesn't - as I said.

My statement was meant to be a surprise, not disbelief

The Z is branded by carriers and is sold subsidized. The ZL is not. In places like the US most people buy their phones subsidized (not to mention carriers do marketing) so the ZL has no chance of matching the same popularity.

Here in Brazil, we didn't received the Z version. Sony explore the market here only with ZQ (a.k.a ZL C6503).
So we have carrier subsidiary prices. I've got mine for 900 BRL, something like 450 USD, while the full price was 2000 BRL, something like 1000 USD.
I know, prices here are awful.

I don't know. It's odd because they sell it on their online store, and I've seen it at their Sony Style stores as well. Again, someone fell asleep at the wheel and forgot about it. I'm sure they will still support it.

looks prettier than LiveView but i would prefer a metal wrist band, Sony should partner with watch designers to create a few more styles.

I was looking on Best Buy, and I just noticed that the ion is now listed for $29.99. You Cannot beat that price for what the phone is.
Wonder if they'll give me $20 back on a gift card or something.

Yea, I just got mine last Wednesday, so I guess I am going to have to try also. I did get mine for $40.
Yeah, I would definitely ask them...especially since they changed the price of it so fast.
This is directly from Bestbuy's website:
Best Buy will match the price if you find a lower price on an identical available product at a local retail competitor's store, a local Best Buy retail store or BestBuy.com. Simply let us know when you are making your purchase or during the return and exchange period.
I just got my credit!!! Woot! A total of $76.39 after taxes, direct from AT&T. I had to provide the Best Buy link for proof, but I got the confirmation text and the chat transcript, should anyone else need to know exactly what to say. (I work Level 2 Tech Support, so I'm well versed in these things.)

It dropped to FREE at Best Buy today. I got mine this past Friday and went back today, mentioned the price on bestbuy.com (since they didn't have a display of it) and got a price adjustment. They couldn't make it "free" but I'm plenty happy paying a penny for such an amazing phone!!

Original screen replacement? How can I recognise fakes?

I bet your not an ebay buyer, if you were you would've been aware of ebay's buyer protection programs against merchant scams. Its not hard to spot fakes you just have to be aware of what the display looks like.

They are wrong, These days most Manufacturers like HTC, SAMSUNG, SONY, LG are producing there units in China. All these brands have their own manufacturing plants in China.
The reason is because that the manufacturing cost is very competitive/ low in countries like China, Vietnam etc.
And if you search the market then you would find that most of the devices these days are made in China. And all of them are Grade 1 product.
btw, I am not Chinese :silly:
Almost every current smartphones are assembled in China, this is far from surprising. It doesn't mean that you bought a knockoff either.
mr. auni is right. most of the devices now are made in china because of the very cheap labor cost. even iphone is made in china. even if your phone is made in china, it doesn't mean that it is not original. it is just manufactured in china because of the very cheap labor.

It depends on how long its been after u bought it.. 400-440 is too much i guess.. Visit amazon and ebay and check the average prices on this phone.. U will have an idea on your area.. It varies here by huge margin.. Like its rate here is around $215 maximum for a good phone..
Yea, go check ebay and amazon. I paid $150 for my xperia Ion from ebay. Pretty good condition.
