[Ubuntu Touch][2 days rewiew] - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I had tried UT for 2 days and this is my conclusion: it's a fantastic system!
I based my vote in: UI, speed, connection(s), apps, others features.
UI 10/10
Ubuntu Touch have the most beautiful UI in the universe and I simply love it
Speed 6/10
Speed isn't the force point of UT (it is in an alpha build, it is laggy)
Connection 5/10
Gps and bluetooth have only screen image but they don't work really. 3g and wifi work quite well but they aren't fully fixed
Apps 5/10
The coreapps work very well but there aren't lots of apps for now (but you can find XDA and a Qr-Code reader)
Other Features 7/10
I love terminal because it use commands like ubuntu desktop and you can upgrade yours app quickly. System setting doesn't work correctly and system update doesm't work (it say there are a 20130834 update and it normally fail the download)
I wish I will try a stable image as soon as possible.
Cheers.

Well.... Let me take this opportunity to ask- how usable is it? Can you daily driver it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Doubt it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

I think ubuntu mobile is at least another 2 years off being usuable as a daily driver, unfortunatley no one cares about ubuntu an they will never catchup to what google an apple or even windows have already let alone in the future.

It isn't for daily use, but mark sutthleworth said UT will stable for october and I wish They'll leave stable version as soon as possible

Sweeeeeet thx for the up bro
Any specific place for themes?
Is themin this similar to crapbox version?
Not sure about themes. Sorry.
XBMC is a streaming media player, for those that asked. Its popular for self-built media centers and available on Ubuntu and newer linux distros, Windows, and now Android.
Sorry about thread title, freaking' Swype

Its about friggin time! I've been waiting for this since the G1....now all I need is Navi-X and the HDMI out adapter and I'm good to go

Update, needs some performance tweaks, is this open source? Was when i used it for crapbox,
Also adding screenshots, this things beautiful & for movies on SD, it actually downloads boxart etc. Which is a nice touch gonna look into the theming tho,
Fix the scaling a lil n itd b perfict, hitting thanks again on OP, you deserve it, didnt even know this was a WIP & FYI, not media player, media CENTER, its an AIO program, with native DVD playback, multi format software decoding, built in "gallery", etc, its powerful and on other systems, incredibly customizable, future builds are a garunteed must have app
Edit* wont let me hit thanks, common people show your respects lol
**EDIT2
Theming looks simple,
Skins are listed in "/data/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/cache/apk/assets/addons/skin.{skinname}"
Only extra skin by default is called touch, so it would be:
"/data/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/cache/apk/assets/addons/skin.touch"
With an addon.xml in root theme folder, specifying multiple variables includig source texture folder, default resolution, etc
Btw, touch default res is 1280x720, that might be the scaling issue happening, hint hint
Woohoo.. another project xD
No need to thank me, i didn't work on this I just linked the apk.
Yes this is official from XBMC and its open source

This is a BETA, not official release (ok, well, technicly), and ur complainin something isn't working correct?
TubePlus isn't on official plugins list cuz it isn't working 100%, although somebody asked for a link so it was provided.
You could try adjusting some proxies, & playin with configurations for it, or wait for official support.
Consider urself lucky though, alls I get on my amaze is a black screen & ui sounds (HTC sucks..)

Winows 8 on your Tablet (Jump Desktop)

Jump Desktop looks very promising for a Windows 8 remote desktop. It will allow for you to essentially use the Metro UI from your desktop as if it were installed on your tablet.
Jump Desktop is not updated for Android just yet, but it is coming soon.
Obviously this it running on iOS but it definitely looks promising.
Very cool. Hope it comes soon.

should be here shortly with all the amazing people here at xda!!
Jump Desktop is working on Android...I'm using it on my Nexus 7 and my Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Works a treat with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected to the Nexus
I'm am also just trying Pocketcloud instead.... Jump Desktop is slightly laggy...but it might be my connection....
Is this better than Splashtop 2?
It need to come ?

I have Jump Desktop and it's not very usable. It refreshes every 5 seconds which is too slow.
I'm a firm believer in Jump Desktop. I use remote desktop often and this is the best I've found. Really designed for tablets in mind.

Jump Desktop 4.0 is currently what is in the app store 5.0 will be the nice update seen in the video.
The 5.0 update adds touch support for Win8. You can essentially use the start menu as if it were Windows RT on the tablet rather than fussing with an annoying mouse cursor on a touch screen.
I haven't seen other remote desktops going that route. It is a new feature for W8 to be able to do this so the others may implement this later as well.
Jump Desktop has just been updated to version 5.0 with full Windows 8 support. I'm using it as we speak.....
going to test this it sounds awesome...

Just bought it and installed. Hands down best rdp app out there! The best thing is that it is not a CPU hog on the PC. Splashtop would max out my old dual core but this program runs at like 40% anyone know why?

Dinamotxt

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to share an alternative to tablet talk which lets you send SMS using your tablet in sync with the phone.
Dinamotxt
Tablet talk lets you call as well, whereas this doesn't. Also tablet talk offers bluetooth connection whereas this only uses wifi. But hey it's free rather than paying for tablet talk so that's always a good thing
Thanks if it helps
Worked good when I first installed it, but after leaving the house (both devices losing wifi) and returning, they simply search for each other endlessly, telling me to connect to the same wifi (which they are).
I tried deleting the pairing and closing and re-opening the app on both devices, but now they just refuse to see each other. Last resort I suppose is to clear data and reinstall both.

The app is 99¢. Small price to pay though.

Low Volume Issue - Solved

I solved my weak low volume using Medlez new build for Noozxoide EIZO. It works fine. See Nexus 4 Forum.
Also VLC did wonders before I installed it. So Vlc is your best bet if you are not rooted. Other players with volume gain feature like Diceplayer and Archos raise video volume but not as much as they did on my Galaxy. I couldn't hear anything in the car.
With EIZO vlc is now too loud and reaches distortion level easily.
Hope this help.

Its not perfect. I had some games crashing on me. I think I was the first to try this. Misledz is working on an official flo mod as we speak. Should be ready soon. Be careful with this. Make sure you don't try and report bugs in the n4 thread as this is NOT supported. I wouldn't even try to report bugs on whatever ROM you are on as this is not completely stable. All that being said it does seem to work for the most part and I do use it as well until the official release.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
It's not crashing for me. It may be your settings. But I don't do games. works great all the way on stock. With no other mod except root and custom recovery.

Apps like this (all apps also, but especially apps like fauxsound) are well worth buying for two main reasons:
-You get updates without having to waste time on Google
-YOU SUPPORT THE AMAZING DEVELOPER(s) WHO HAS BROUGHT YOU THIS MAGIC

When you bought the tablet if they offered an option to include a sound mod like faux sound for $2. You wouldn't hesitate to add it at time of purchase. So why not spend the two bucks now. It supports a great developer too. Even if you don't use his kernel a lot of other devs use faux sound and it works on multiple devices. I have it installed on my n4 as well at no extra cost.

Faux sound doesn't work with Franco and Franco refuses to add speaker gain because...well I have my opinions about him, just leave it at that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I bought the Faux Sound app' and it did increase the volume, but I kind of wished I would have waited. V4A works phenomenally on my 7. I've ran it in stock rooted and a couple different ROMs. It gives a great increase and the sound quality is great. Perfect fix IMO. I've only used it for increasing the speaker volume, and have not tested on headphones of Bluetooth' by it's free, and works better than any paid app I've bought. No disrespect to the dev of the Faux Sound app. It does what it says, and I'm happy to pay to support an excellent developer.

Need help flashing

Hello,
I own a Galaxy Nexus for quite a while now and my girlfriend has been using it for quite some time. She was not into rooting so I flashed a stable 4.1 rom at the time and she used it as her daily driver for 1.5 years. She recently swith Ed to another phone and I want to upgrade the rom on my nexus. I want to instal a 5.1 rom. Bur my question is.
Do I need to flash another baseband, separate kernel and things like that or can I just start flashing the rom.
I want to use my galaxy nexus as my Chromecast phone. Play popcorn time and Netflix on it.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards!

Hello? (Echo effect )
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
I suggest to install the 5.1 AOSP ROM for the Galaxy Nexus. It supports Chromecasting and it is very stable. I had few bugs with it like: Camera won't work after few hours and you need to reboot and YouTube or any video won't playback after a few hours but you can fix it aswell by rebooting. If these are small issues for you, you can flash this ROM. It gives you AOSP-near experience and very good performace compared to the age of this phone. I am currently using it on my GNex and it runs very good, it's like our phone is on steroids. Hope I helped you
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
1. You don't have to install any other kernels/mods/etc
2. I recommend you to install this rom: [ROM] [LP 5.1.1_r5] [LYZ28E] Dreams - version 5.3.7.6. This rom has Chromecast support.
Thanks!
I'll start tomorow
