[Q] What app to use to sync data between the Note 8.0 and others? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I have some applications, like finance app, in both the Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy S4 Active. Is there any app out there that can sync these 2 data, now that I have TWO devices??
I want something like this:
1). In Note - open finance app, make changes, close
2). In Note - Run <some app> to sync the data to Dropbox
3). In S4 - Run <some app> to sync the data from Dropbox
4). In S4 - open finance app, changes sync
I tried to use DropSync or something similar, but it does not work because:
1). Many app does NOT have a backup/restore feature. Thus there is no "backup" files
2). For those that do have a backup/restore feature, it is very cumbersome.
Otherwise, what is your strategy to sync data between 2 devices?

Helium will work. You would have to backup data on on and restore to the other. I'm not sure of an automatic app that would work.

Is this what you use to sync data between the Note 8.0 and you're other device?

foldersync can sync system files and databases. i was going to do it with anmoney to keep db's synced across devices, but at 3MB per sync i find it easier to just make a backup.
it should be doable.

Well maybe not. It will allow you to backup app data and restore to another device via the cloud but not sure if it will do exactly what you want. Just try it and find out.

Also check out datasync on the play store. It allows to manually sync devices on the same network without going through dropbox.
It can be set up to sync automatically if you pay the license.

Cloudagent almost 5GB of internal storage?

Anyone know what this is and if it can be moved or deleted? On my device it's like 4.98GB of internal storage!

If you refer to the "Cloud" setting and cloud agent (which on whatever firmware my device originally came with, crashed if you had sync with Dropbox enabled; I have not tried on newer stock firmware or custom ROMs).
It's related to your Samsung account sync. Part of its UI is an alias to your Samsung account sync settings. It also has some form of sync with Dropbox - I believe it is the same as with Samsung Link / AllShare Play, auto upload to Dropbox for your pictures/videos; similar to Dropbox and G+'s own feature. I'm not familiar with how it's implemented inside.
You probably should not uninstall any cloud agent APK's unless you've basically ripped every bloody Samsung specific thing off, and even then you should check what's safe (there should be a thread somewhere by now). Clearing data on it is probably okay but cleanup and setup may be necessary after, depending on how much you use your Samsung account.
if you use nether Samsung nor Dropbox accounts, it's useless.
I just deleted the directory. Used Dropbox a few times and have not noticed it recreating the directory. Before deleting it I did see it had a copy of my Dropbox folder making a service like Dropbox useless if it caches everything to the device like on a PC.

Like most Samsung features, I'm sure there is someone out there that actually has use for it. Most people on XDA likely have 0 use for everything Samsung puts in because either they don't use it or they already have an app for it.
I found this idiotic thing on an Android 4.2.2 Samsung flavor. Indeed, after you define your Dropbox account it starts taking down your pictures and doesn't stop until it finishes them all and crowds your device with them.
This "feature" can be officially disabled in: Settings-Cloud-Pictures / Videos / Documents. You need to untick one by one sync option.
There's an option while setting the device from factory reset to allow or not the Samsung device to access all your dropbox info: select no.

i ended up disabling sync in settings

[Q] Strategy for saving S Notes / other handwritten notes

I am in love with the functionality of taking notes with a pen, and think S Pen works for most parts.
What has been worrying me more and more is how to ensure that some form of backup happens regularly because I am taking work notes mostly. Looking at some of the threads on Samsung sync wiping out notes from the Note it's a bit scary.
Looking for ideas how can this process be automated. At least maybe PDF versions can be saved.. or any other tools we should use ? I wish Google had a S Notes version lol
Can't answer your questions as I haven't explored S Note enough... but I recommend you use Lecture Notes instead, from my limited experience I would say it is superior to S Note especially with the extensive ability to customize how the app functions to suit your needs. Using the S Pen button to switch between pen, eraser, and cutter is ace!
Didn't try, but there is at least one app that supposedly syncs Card folders to Dropbox (DropSpace)

Didn't know that... awesome.
So can you auto save / automate PDF saves?
basically how do you save it for long term?

It auto saves, and you can specify the interval. However, this is just auto saving your notebooks. From the Notebook board you can import/export notebooks, share notebooks, or back them up as pdf.
I can't find any setting to automate the backup process, but as far as I know there are no issues with losing notebooks in Lecture Notes, and they auto save by default.
You could always get hold of the developer - I believe they have a thread here on xda and ask if it's possible to include auto backup as a feature in a future update?

Just coy them to ext sd card you'll never lose them then

I'm using 'Write'. It only has a pen option though, no way to insert text. But, what is fantastic about it is that creates pure html/svg files on the sd card. You can copy and open them in your browser, without needing to export as pdf or whatever. I use FolderSync to automatically copy these files to my laptop every couple of hours, so I can refer to those notes whenever I want to.
On My N5100 Notes are by default stored on sdcard in the folder: S Note (path: /sdcard0/S Note)
so all you need to do is backup that folder to a cloud or alternate storage manually or using sync apps like Dropspace (for dropbox) or FolderSync (for dropbox, gdrive, and others, It even supports local network shares over samba, couldn't get any better).
Edit:
Forgot to mention that: Samsung Kies will also backup your notes to your computer, however good/stable that is , is still an open question though!
Using S-Note and a Samsung account, it's trivial to do cloud sync. I could throw my Note 8 in the trash, get a new one, and sync my stuff. The limitations of manually syncing (share -> appname) to things like Dropbox and Evernote aside. A less productive but more handwriting centric app called Quill even offers automated Evernote sync I believe. Sketchbook Ink can also sync its stuff with Dropbox, although it's rather minimalist all around.
YMMV with other apps. In S-Note's case, just use a Samsung account.

you're right, and the sync is perfect, i.e. until this happens (re-quoted from this thread):

I had a backup with titanium only to find out it doesnt backup the actual notes on the sdcard...
I decided to use dropsync to upload the actual .snb and so now im backed up. Stupid Samsung fail....

Works fine for me, and my non-local data goes into a different service; such as sending it to Evernote.
Reminds me of Polaris Office, when folk on the TF101 learned it sometimes corrupts documents.

Clouds are so many and so omnipresent, it's easy to forget we use them. For me your misfortune is yet another reminder to never rely solely on cloud sync when it comes to important data.

what bothers me, is I had hard copies of all my notes on my tablet. Samsung failed in their programming by allowing their cloud server to take precedent over my hard copies.

Well, S-note is developed by same company as Polaris office (infraware), so not just a random anomaly I figure.

Precisely the dangers of two-way background sync. You don't even know what went missing, until the moment you try to find it.
Which leads me to one of the reasons of my severe dislike for MTP protocol we have on Note 8 - on devices with USB Drive Mode, it is so easy to backup/sync files from int/ext cards to PC (e.g. TotalCmd dir sync with binary comparison) - no easy way to do it with MTP.

Good to know that ! How do you use FolderSync to copy files to laptop ?

[Q] How do take notes in s-note and view from PC in web browser?

How do I do this?
- Samsung sync seems to backup only? No web access
- Google drive sync seems to be doing nothing.
- Dropbox... the s-note is not letting me select sync with drop box.
It should be so simple! Am I missing something easy?

Are you on a custom rom or stock? If custom what rom/version? When you go to System Settings/Cloud what does it show is syncing and is Dropbox listed there?
SNote will let me share to Dropbox and Drive sync works fine between my tablet, phone, and PC. Something doesn't sound like it is setup properly or something has happened.
Need more info.

Thanks CCallahan. I'm fully stock, android 4.1.2. The cloud setting shows
Code:
Content sync (with Dropbox)
[email protected]
Storage usage 10 MB / 2.5 GB
Pictures Sync enabled
Videos Sync enabled
However when I go to S-Note -> Accounts, I only see "Samsung, Google Docs, and Evernote" listed. So my questions are:
1) How did you link S-note to drop box?
2) Once you do sync to drop box, how do you see the notes from your PC? It is the raw snb file? If so how is that useful to you? I'd really like to see the a PDF or JPG of the image so I can see it clearly.
Thanks much.

I don't think you can do that with sNotes snb natively, at-least not of now. (I have gone through the internals of s-notes file for other reasons) and it's unlikely one could make use of them easily, unless someone writes a viewer/editor for them.
My Best Bet would be to just use the share via (preferably) or export option on the s-note app to save as pdf. and find which works best for you.
Now if you need some editing. Then some PC/Android App with OCR could be quite useful.

Well, I want it to be automatic. Otherwise it's useless to me because I'll forget to sync.
Man, I can't believe I can't do something so simple: write a grocery list on my Note 8, see it instantly on my phone (S3) then cross off items while I'm in the store.
- S-note: doesn't work on S3 without touchwiz (I'm running CM 10.1)
- Papyrus: doesn't support sync yet. (their cloud backup thing will NOT do sync)
- Gnotes: doesn't allow you to write like a piece of paper. When you write it's large, then it gets placed onto the page.
- Evernote / Skitch: writing with the s-pen is pretty bad with skitch. It can't seem to keep up.
EDIT: I just found that "GNote" is different than "GNotes". Trying Gnote (not in play store) now.
Am I missing any other aps that get sync right?

If you don;t necessarily need output as a hand written text, you could just use handwriting recognition in note 8 (which works quite well once you get used to it) and use whatever app you prefer. that way.

It looks like GNote + DropSync will do what I want.
Now if only I could push after saving rather than trying to check every 5 mins. Hmmmm.

Can you use any note app as the default with S-Pen, or must one use Samsung Notes?

Simple question as I've never used a Note phone before, just curious if I would have to use the default Samsung Notes or can I instead use any Notes app I install from the Play Store (be it Evernote or what have you)? Thanks!
You can use pretty much any note app you like. OneNote, Keep, Evernote, etc.

If you mean in the S-Pen Quick Settings, any app can be added. You will have to check S-Pen optimization and compatibility with your specific app of choice though.
Any other S-Pen function can be used with any app via the Share option once completing a task (GIF, Smart Select etc)
Thanks guys, a follow-up: If I use Samsung Notes how does the sync work? Is it only on the phone or is there a webapp, do my notes sync to Samsung servers or backed up on phone? I ask because I take a lot of notes for clients and that's why I really want the Note, but just preparing the little details so I know beforehand. Thanks so much for the help really appreciated

mi notes data move

hello i am planning to move to a different rom after about 2years of MIUI.
but the thing is i have hundreds of texts saved in the mi notes app and the app doesn't work on other roms nor does it support syncing data.
my current option is to copy and paste the notes to another note app such as Google's, but as i mentioned there are hundreds of notes to copy and it is a tedious process.
Is there any way around this,to sync data seamlessly to another app via cloud or data files? if you know, do tell me.
PS: i like the hidden notes feature in the app. can you also suggest a notes app that has the same feature?
