Running Jedi X17 and Camera wont work - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

The picture shows up fine in the preview window but when i tap the preview or goto gallery it shows up with a gey icon of generic image thats broken and no sign of the picture. This happens with front and rear facing camera. Any ideas ? It did it before I did a cache and delvik wipe and reinstalled the rom and still borked.
Am running deviant jedi ( i think theme )
tried video same deal get a " cant open storage/extsdcard/dcim/camera/53453546.mp4 to play
tried to access files directly from root explorer and .jpg said cannot load image and .mp4 said cannot play video

My phone is doing the exact same thing. I see the picture but when I click on it, it either shows a broken pic symbol or it just goes to an older pic...I've searched both my SD and my internal mem to no avail. This happens with both the front and rear cameras.
I have been running x17 since the day it was released and have just now noticed this. My camera is very important in my line of work and I just realized this caused me to lose all the pictures I took last week that are supposed to be turned into my boss. Not happy. Should we go back to an earlier version?
Also, my theme is the s4 theme that comes with the rom.

Mines fine! Have you upgraded to the latest saber kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app

I have not...I assumed it included the latest with the rom. Bad assumption, I suppose. Will the kernel affect whether the camera app works and saves pictures? Gonna flash the latest one and see if it makes a difference...
EDIT: I just flashed latest saber kernel and nothing changed.

interesting. i checked the feature list and it does include saber kernel...maybe the camera was corrupted during the flash. either way, i appreciate the info and will reflash.

If you are seeing the preview ok than the file is still there, you didn't lose it. Just need another way to access it. Computer for example.

They way I solved it was . Do a factory restore, reinstall jedi rom and Don't do the memory swap option. Try it out let us know if it worked for you

[Q] [ROM] MotoGinger 2.3.4 (4th test)

Hey Guys,
Just installed the latest [ROM] MotoGinger 2.3.4 (4th test). The camera screen does not seem to be working. Not sure if I am doing something wrong.
If I take the picture the photo comes out fine but just can't see the viewfinder on the screen when I am trying to take the pic.
Anybody else had this problem?
Thanks

Do you have 2ndinit installed?
If yes put boot on normal instead of recovery and it will work fine again.
I'm not overly familiar will the situation, but I believe it may be that you have a green lensed defy. Their cameras don't work with the stock gingerbread leaks, but if you install the mod by simplestas it should work.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Is there any other way other than looking at the lens to see what colour it is? The phone is brand new, about 3 weeks old but we might have got old stock here which would be a bit of a bummer.

Are you sure you dont have 2ndinit on booting your phone going into bootmenu?
Apparently you can tell by the size of the image file created, less than 1MB is supposed to be a green lenses and a file size of around 1.4MB is red. But as you said the camera isn't working properly, that would be difficult to test without reflashing a lower version of android.

I do have 2ndInit going into the boot menu. must I make it go into normal boot by default?
If I do, how do I get back into 2ndInit afterwards?
Flashed back to 2.3.4 stock for now but will try again if this will fix the camera

[ROM] CM 7 for BRAVO (No modifications) Camcorder working!

CM7 for BRAVO (No modifications)!!
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HKY4OVEI
Try it and post any issues or problem!!
Well all this is thanks to rdannar, I just take his lastest CM7 rom (CM7 V5) and changed everything back to stock, accelerometer and backlight buttons are working also.
No action snap is installed, to install Fast burst Camera (zoom and autofocus) go to this thread to download it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272161
I used 2nd init defy and remember to follow the next (always used) steps:
1) copy the rom to your sdcard
2) boot into 2nd init defy -> recovery -> stable recovery
3) wipe data/factory reset
4) wipe cache partition
5) advance -> wipe dalvik cache
6) install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard
7) reboot
To take photos use Fast Burst Camera.
Do not use Defy Baseband Switcher if your 3G is working!!
I'm liking it so far!
Is there any way future ones (at least once you get to "production" runs) could NOT include the old swype? Sort of a pain to remove it to install Swype beta...
great rom! at the moment after two days of use I have not found still no defect. (before I used the rom v2 of rdannar). thanks

Ok I got the camera to preview and it clicks if i use the settings that match the stock Bravo but all it saves as a file is a black screen. Can somebody please give me the stock 2.2.1 sbf file decompiled and changed to a .zip or something.
For something at least I have fast burst camera up and working. Now that I think, I need to get source codes. All of the codes for 2.2.1 camera for bravo, and the codes that are in the gingerbread CM7 rom.

Thanks! But I'll have to unzip it and see what it all is. I'm not caring about deodexed files I just want something that I can look at on my computer just like the CM7 mods that are zipped and archived. Easier to look at for hours.
Umm, all it gave me was a file called external.tar. What do I do with it? took me two hours to download.

Ok this is what i'm looking for. Froyo 2.2.1 for the bravo, not in .sbf but in the way it would be if we were using it like the CM7 rom. Opened and in the order just like I can see it on my phone with Super Manager in File Explorer rooted mode. And need to know if some of us want CM7 WITH or WITHOUT BLUR.
I'll just see if I can make two versions. One with and one without so no fighting. But i will need testers.

------------------------------------------------------------------
About external.tar, I havent worked with that before, no codes for me by now, I have just changed files and zipped roms.
Im here to try, my two bravos are fine to test everything.
For me it doesnt matter about having blur or not, but I prefer GINGERBLUR , anyway we need a fully working gingerbread rom. (everthing will come after it)
What I need.
Ok. I need to have the regular 2.2.1 for the bravo in the exact same way as if we downloaded the CM7 rom that is 2.3.4. The regular 2.2.1 that I have now is just the .sbf file for use with RSD Light just in case I really screw up my phone. Just like windows restore............ Anywho i'm working on right now building the stock 2.2.1 bravo file system by using a stock factory bravo and copying all of the root files onto the SD card to put them on my computer. I'll be going through all of the crap and looking at the CM7 roms to find out what is diffrent. I need somebody who can zip the stuff so it can be loaded with 2ndint. This will then allow me to put this newish rom into beta. Or if someone can find or give me the program that zips everything for 2ndint to use. I will attach sometime what I pulled off of my Bravo for a better understanding of what I want.

[Q]Black line problem when I using CM7 Mod

Hi XDA,
As you can see my Attached Thumbnails, when I use the camera apps(build-in CM7 Camera and other camera apps), there are some black line in the preview mode but the photo I taken didn't have these black line. This situation is only happen in CM7 ROM, the officual ROM doesn't have these problem. In the past I flashed CM7.1 into my gio phone, I got the same black line problem when I playing the video.
can somebody please help me to solve it?
THX
Sorry for my bad English
If you have this problem only in the camera, then these are the "guidelines" , which are to help you when taking a photo. You have to search for them and turn it off at the camera's settings.

I don't think this black lines are the "guidelines" because I reboot the phone, the black lines will disappeared. However, when I idle the phone a while and open the camera, the black lines are come back. Also I got the same black lines when I playing the videos(especially in CM7.1)
Now I back to use the official ROM.
Its a total diverend isue and has nothing to do with your camera.
It has something to do with your screen, not that the screen is defective but something with the drivers.
There is no fix for it, not that i am aware of.....
Are you install it right according the installation guide ?
Have you tried to reinstall ?
Anyway, which version of Gio do you use ? the GT-S5660 or SHW-M290S/K one ?
CM7 only support Gt-S5660 version

I had a similar problem with CM7.1, exept it wasn't black lines, but semi transparent squares. It happened, after I installed a camera app (don't remember, which one). Did you install any app that uses your camera? (My problem went away after installing 7.2)

[Q] T999 UVDMD5 - Can't connect to camera (rooted or unrooted)

Hi All,
I'm am absolutely stumped and have tried what feels like everything I can to resolve my issue to no avail. So, I'm hoping to find success from the wisdom of the seasoned XDA community.
I have an SGH-T999 with baseband UVDMD5. In early September, my camera stopped working. When I open the camera app, I'm greeted with the infamous "Can't connect to camera" message. The front camera works fine (via Skype), but the rear camera does not. I've tried all of the following but the camera still won't work:
1) Unrooted and re-flashed the stock root66;
2) Finding the correct "SLIM_ISP.bin" file, placing them in the /data folder, and set the permissions to 777;
3) Re-flashed the stock UVDMD5 bootloader, firmware, and modem;
4) Took the phone to a shop to have a new camera installed and they couldn't get the new hardware to work either (so, it's definitely software related);
5) Cleared the app cache and fixing permissions in recovery;
6) Restored a Nandroid from a previous state of the device when the camera was fully operational;
I don't know what else to do. PLEASE help me folks. I really want my camera back. Thank you in advance for your time and insight.
I've attached a Catlog I recorded while attempting to open the camera, if that helps at all.
just a thought , but if you have a nandroid backup could you uninstall current camera and then grab camera from nandroid and install it ?
or if have titanium backup hit the install button on camera apk (even though its already there). these methods have worked for me with browser issues.
just an idea.
good luck.

Have you considered replacing the camera hw? It's very easy to do and the part usually costs less than $10.

Hi Doc, I tried that. Sorry. Should have listed it. I took it to a shop to have a new camera installed and they couldn't get the new hardware to work either. So, it's definitely software related.
Thanks for the suggestion though. Please let me know if you have any other ideas.

mrrocketdog,
Would that work if the camera doesn't work even when the Nandroid is restored (despite that fact that the camera was functional when the Nandroid was created)? Thank you.
At this point I think that would be worth a shot. If it doesn't work though I'd have to say it sounds like it could be hardware related, even though you replaced the module. Might be a problem on the motherboard or something like that.
The only other thing I can think to try though is to flash a 4.1.1 rom. Then using the hidden code to write the camera firmware to the device. If the firmware got corrupted somehow, this could fix it. The problem though, is if you've updated to 4.3 firmware, it probably won't work. They patched against our ability to write the cameras firmware ourselves. If this was done in the controlling app, it may just work. However, if it was patched in the base firmware, there won't be any way I know of to do this.
I'll post the code in a min. Gotta hunt it down again...

Ok here are the codes:
*#34971539#
*#7412365#
Enter in the stock dialer.
I'm pretty sure the first one is the one you need, but both are camera codes which is why I gave both.
If it works, it will open a menu called Camera Firmware Std
You can check the firmware versions first if you like. If the phone fw is older than the cam fw, and you do this, it is possible you could loose some features. But if so, I imagine flashing the device firmware again will update back to where it should be.
To write the camera firmware, just choose Phone to Cam FW Write.
Good luck!

dont know exact function , but what about going into recovery and fixing permissions.

Thank you for your response and the suggestions.
That point makes complete sense. However, what I'm saying is that I've restored s Nandroid from a state when the camera was functional. However, the camera still doesn't work despite restoring a Nandroid from a previously operational state. So, please correct me if I'm wrong, but, considering that, what good would extracting the apk from the Nandroid do if restoring the entire Nandroid doesn't make the camera work?
Regarding your second suggestion, I have tried clearing the app cache and fixing permissions, but it didn't work. I'll add this to my list of attempted fixes in my original post.
Thank you very much mrrocketdog. I sincerely appreciate your continued interest and support. I hope we can figure this out.

Hi DocHoliday77,
Thank you very much for the reply and the suggestion. Your advice seems sound.
I'm not sure what you mean by "controlling app." I'm afraid my knowledge is too limited to tell you if I've flashed the 4.3 firmware.
Not sure if this helps, but I have intentionally not upgraded beyond the stock baseband UVDMD5 version. I understand the baseband versions following UVDMD5 are bad due to the addition of KNOX and the inability to flash back to previous baseband versions.
Currently, I have flashed Carbon rom, which states the Android version is 4.4.4. However, I don't know if the Android version number is reflective of the firmware.
Regarding flashing a 4.1.1 rom, is there a rom you suggest that would be better for this than others? Should I just grab an older version of Carbon or would it be best to use Odin to flash back to a stock root66 version of 4.1.1 ?
Btw, not sure if you saw, but I uploaded a Catlog I recorded while trying to launch the camera app. I don't know if that will reveal anything or not. I can't make two cents of Catlogs other than to identify that errors are occurring. I really hope this isn't a faulty motherboard.
Thank you again for your continued interest and support. I really appreciate your advice. It means a lot. I hope we are able to resolve this.
If you never updated beyond 4.1.2, you can fully downgrade to 4.1.1 and try that method I posted. The app is just the one that controls the cameras dialer code. You don't really need to worry about it. Don't remember which it is right now anyway...
If you like though, first just flash stock 4.1.2. The code might work there. I just can't remember if it was patched there or in 4.3. You'll know you need 4.1 1 if you open it and the firmware write choice is greyed out.
I suggest just flashing the root66 firmware rather than a rom. This way everything you need is included. If it does solve the problem you can flash back to whatever you like.

Ok Doc. I flashed root66 T999 UVDLJC (Official JB Firmware - Latest JB 4.1.1 Firmware). After rebooting the phone, I entered the first code you provided - *#34971539# - into the phone dialer. This pulls up an all black screen with a gray colored placeholder/header at the top that reads, "CameraFirmware Standard." Again, other than the gray header and title, the rest of the screen is all black with no text or anything, except for the notification bar at the very top. Then, after sitting on that screen for a few seconds, it closes and the message, "Unfortunately, Factory Test has stopped," displays in a pop-up message.
I can make my assumptions about what that means, but I'd prefer your opinion. What do you think?
Thank you again for your time, insight, and assistance. I respectfully look forward to your response.
p.s. Just to clarify my experience for potential future readers, the second code you provided - *#7412365# - didn't work. It displayed, "Unable to process request" in a pop-up message.
That tells me that the system is most likely having problems communicating with the camera.
I'd open it up and make sure it's properly connected. It's very easy to do. You can find disassembly videos on YouTube if you want to see what to look for first.
If the shop couldn't get a new one to work, I'm honestly not sure what else you can try. It does sound like a hardware issue though. My best guess is its got something to do with the motherboard.

Need Help with Camera Please!!

Okay so i just got my lg g4 yesterday and its my first lg phone after many years of samsung. I installed a custom Rom right away but...
1. My camera keeps crashing especially when i toggle the manual mode
2. Also,i have noticed that there isnt any dedicated button for front facing camera in the camera ux,how can i get that?
3. I have tried other cameras,like G5 ported camera and v10,same thing.
Im running Imperium rom 5.0 with simplgx kernel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This one is abit off topic, but i figured id rather ask here than to create a dedicated thread for it....Whenever i apply a custom font,it doesn't take effect system wide, like in whatsapp and other apps, what can i do to fix that?

ill try to.. my internet connection is slow... actually its my neeighbors LOL.. and its rainning here...i think its 1mbt and itll take long time.. we get black outs only with samll rain or wind ... id suggest you download KDZ and flash it again..
Thanks but im at the end of the cliff.
Here's what i did:
1. Reflashed the rom like 3 times.
1a. I ported the camera from genysis rom,set permissions and rebooted
2. I flashed a different rom (genysis) with full wipes
3. I then flashed a kdz with lgup. Twice
4. I completely erased everything from the phone with lg up.
5. I downloaded 3rd party cameras (open camera and hd camera from play store)
Everything i did didnt bring back my front facing camera. I did a bit of searching and realized that its a common problem. Dang! A faulty new phone!!!
