[Q] Looking for 2.2 Rom with 2.1 Browser

Hey guys.
Just rooted and debranded my desire this week to finally be able to get some froyo onto my Desire. I love the new features, and the general speed, but the browser is a total letdown for me. It has been reported before numerous times on this forum, and i am experiencing the same laggy scrolling. I have Leedroid 1.8 right now which came with an adblocker, and ive got plugins set to "on demand". Still that doesnt really help the whole experience.
Now what i would love is to have the 2.1 browser back. I even want flash lite back instead of full flash. Hands down, it is laggy as hell, and i would only use it to show off to friends with iphones. Flash lite didnt work most of the time, but when it worked it did its job better than full flash, sad but true.
Now it all comes down to the question: Is there a 2.2 rom availible with the 2.1 browser? If not, is cooking a rom like that even possible?
Im not far from going back to 2.1, because the browser is of big importance to me. Thanks for any help.
Edit: Oh, and using a different browser is not an option for me. I just dont like the browsers availible on the market (Dolphin HD, Opera mini, Xscope, Skyfire...)

Since I don't have your browser problem on the OTA HTC 2.2 but the entire opposite experience, I'd say try a different ROM to compare. And try without moving any regular apps to SD and with. I'm starting to see a small trend where the SD card file reads are killing the CPU usage with too many loads from apps moved to the flash.
Trying to install 2.1 browser APK on mine reads "incompatible version".

[Q] My Desire HD is very slow?

Hi all,
I got my Desire HD about 4 weeks ago, and used it quite a lot, with barely any apps installed. (I never use app killers by the way) Over time i realised it was actually acting quite slow for a phone with it's spec, so i asked Vodafone and they sent me another one.
My new one, that i've had for 2 weeks now is still slow for what i would expect from a phone like this, and i'm not just being fussy either.
My friend has an X10 mini, and was showing me the other day, and i was shocked at how much more responsive and faster it is than my Desire HD, so i looked up lag issues and found xda developers.
I tried enabling USB debugging, checked for the latest update, rebooted etc.. it feels like i'm only getting, what... 25 frames per second at best? usually looks about 20 (in menus) when compared to my friends X10 mini, his looks as if it's easily scrolling up and down the drop down or popup menu with all of your apps in it, at 60 frames, (something above 30 anyway with NO lag whatsoever) and i have yet to flick my menu without seeing some degree of jitter while scrolling. I downloaded the Quadrant Benchmark and found I got 2002 Points, which when looked at in the graph.. there is no way the x10 mini could even scratch the DHD's score... so...
WHY does my phone feel sluggish? Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Here is what i did:
- Install ES Task Manager and add the widget and run it often. (Make sure to add the apps to the ignore list that you do not want to close)
- Remove as many widgets as possible from screen
- Install LauncherPro (It speeded things up a hell of alot for me)
- And most importantly, if your SD Card has a lot of stuff on it (Music etc) then delete as much as you can. The less on your SD Card the faster it will be.

Hey, before I wrote this, I tried formatting the phone and did a factory reset, the menu STILL lags and jitters quite a bit. Surely this isn't supposed to happen on a fresh version of the phone with NO user junk on there? and I've heard that task kilelrs are bad for the system, usually doing more damage than good.

Do you have anything on the SD Card?
I am not sure about that, the task manager on mine seems to be very good, i have stopped it from closing important apps which need to be open though.

No i don't have much on the SD, olny the files that the phone adds itself, i tried removing all of my user data already, still no sucess.

Try the task manager if you wish. It works perfectly fine for me and i have been using it for months.

I just tried the task manager... made a little difference, but the menus still lag!

Try turning Auto Sync off for a while too... I am unsure why the menus are lagging. Mine seem fine. What menus lag?

The one where you tap the arrow in the bottom left, and all of your apps are on one page lags the worst. sometimes scrolling on the home screen too.

What sort of setup do you have on your phone? What apps etc?

I don't have any performance issues with my stock DHD. I even have a bunch of widgets too.

Yes, I have seen the lags in my 3 weeks old DHD. It is very annoying and I don't understand why HTC doesn't address the issues and only focus on new product development.

same here, i`m using stock rom 1.72 flashed via RUU, OP maybe try to back`up your rom and flash a custom rom like revo or leedroid and see how it is...

and see how much RAM is used.
try to use another ROM, not sure if your service provider accept it.
i am sure it is a software added by your provider, or some settings needed.
i would go to:
- format the SD card - don't forget to back it up
- full reset my phone
still same problem ..... find a clean ROM and flash it.

That is what I thought too! I think its your provider. Especially when getting new phone from the same provider and the laggs are still there. I would suggest to try another Rom. Clean from such ****ty provider Stuff.

I have 1 month old DHD, no lag so far on ordinary use.
But i notice 1 think that make it lag.
When i browse internet, HSDPA & 3g signal no problem, but when Edge signal, than lag start to happen, some time its hang few second!! & my DHD start heating warm under battery..
Even tho i click usb debug, stil lag.
Only way to make sure its not lag is to use only HSDPA & 3g signal while browse..
I use stock rom, no root.

[Q] dolphin browser hd lags

when my internet was down once, I realize that my phone is really smooth almost no lag at all. I use dolphin hd and what I see from the responses is that they dont really experience as much lag as I am experiencing. Sometimes it freezes for a few seconds, sometimes applying gesture just lags. The biggest problem is that after minimizing the browser I get a pretty sever lag when swiping through the screens even opening up setting takes awhile with lags.
Is this normal or are there any solutions to this... please help. Will thank every useful post.

Strange have you tried to re-install, i am using dolphin browser with rcmix3d 3.5 Works perfectly, do you use any task manager app, and what rom are you using.

you have no lag at all? it takes a few second after I touched an app for it to launch
it is very annoying. I'm using ARHD 5.1.2, stock kernel, recommended radio and honey hd.

Also, when I look at OSmonitor, Dolphin browser takes 80% of the cpu sometimes more. is this normal?

Nope no lags its not normal, my browser has no lags even when minimized i have no lags, something is wrong because 80% cpu for dolphin browser is wayy too much, i don't know whats happening, you could try clearing cache. in my case i can see that dolphin browser is only using 24mb of my ram not too much and osmonitor only show my dolphin browser is only using 4% of cpu when run in background and 27% cpu usage when browsing. you might want to re-flash the rom

Can it be because of my device? Or the network since the internet sometimes goes on and off
I might try flashing the rom ur using rite now and see if it resolves the problem.

It takes 95m here. Do u use the desktop mode btw?

I doubt it is because of the device, and the internet might be a issue of using the incorrect radio, so try flashing rcmix3d 3.5 if still the problem isn't fixed try changing the radio.
Tried it with desktop mode not make much difference.

I dont think its the radio I followed the correct radio. If i follow the recommended radio there will be no problem rite? even though im not living in the us. downloading rcmix rite now hope it solves the problem. will report later

Thank you for intoducing me to this awesome rom
Much smoother, much faster, much stable, signal strength is better the only con is only the battery life but it doesnt really matter as long as i have a good experience

There seems to be an issue with Dolphin browser on ARHD ROMs but it is not as much as you described it...I've had certain lags with Dolphin on ARHD but on the stock ROM or CM7 it was flying.

What seems to be the issue??

Browser crashes/hangs in several 2.3 ROMs?

Last year, when the "official" 2.3 Sense ROM came out, I waited until it was rootable and then installed it (yeah, love to be on the save side).
Among several issues there was a really annoying browser bug which FC at random times, especially when navigation quite fast between several pages (for example browsing forward and back on mobile optimized sites like the forum section of "heise-online.mobi"), I think it happens after pressing the back button.
I didn't like Sense, so I switched to Oxygen and later to CM7.
In CM7.1 I often had Browser issues again, but it did not FC but just stopped responding. Searching through the internet I found other ppl with the same issue... but no solution.
Now I'm using euroskank's CM7.2RC1 Build which is really great - but guess what: Browser crashes at random times when quickly navigation.
I checked the logs for stack traces and those crashes occur always in libwebcore.
So is there something broken in 2.3's webcore implementation?

I have used cm7.1 for quite a long time using ManU 2.0 SVS kernel. Try flashing that ROM and kernel combination, coz its the most stable combo i have found. No freezes, reboots or FCs. Press Thanks if my advice works

I'm now on CM7.2RC1 which includes several webkit fixes, but browser is still crashing.
This often happens when quickly navigating between web pages (i.e. go quickly forward/backward in threads).
*sigh* maybe I'll try a full wipe and check if this still happens.... however wiping dalvik cache and clearing data of "Browser" and "HTML-Anzeige" (HTML-View?) should reset all to default - in theory...

Me too. Plus the fact that the internet cache is saved on the internal memory blows. Yeah I can link it to the sd-ext with a couple of commands but why bother when there are better 3rd party browser that does it for you and performs better.

Well, some 3rd party browsers like dolphin suffer from the same issue because they use the same webkit libs.
Had those hangs of CM7.1 in dolphin, too.
Also, I don't like firefox or opera, so there isn't much choice left...

I've been using Dolphin and I never encounter crashes with CM7 nightlies and this v7.2rc1. I'm using the mini version although I assume they use the same engine.

Maybe I should really do a clean wipe/reinstall.
I was carrying old data over from 7.1 (where I had hangs, not crashes, but some ppl reported them too in the cm forums - so I was not alone).
If it still happens, I'll create a bug report in the cm issue tracker.
I know how to collect logcat and stacktraces (tombstones), maybe this helps identifying this problem.
Edit: Done. Also happens with a clean full wipe installation - opened CM issue 4867

Using Blackout ICS

I'm new to using a rooted device and installing custom ROMS, and I love it!
I've loaded the latest Blackout ICS version 3.0.0, and am really impressed by how well it works. I immediately noticed that battery life is better than anything I've used previously, always different versions of Gingerbread. So that's a big improvement straight away. As others have highlighted, it's a bit laggy at times, but I overclocked the CPU and it runs much more smoothly. Even just 1.2 GHZ produced a noticeable improvement, and I'm now on just under 1.5 GHz, which I gather is a safe setting. I was worried about this affecting battery life, but if it has it's barely noticeable. I suppose it only runs at the fastest speed when it needs to.
The only problem with the ROM is the auto-brightness, which jumps up and down even in fixed light conditions. Not sure if the developers pick these threads up, but that is really the only issue I've found.
As the DHD seems to be the only device not to be getting an official port of ICS, I'd definitely recommend giving this ROM a try.
With all these other devices getting updates, is it likely that more fully working ICS ports for the DHD will be on the horizon?

You should also try AOSPX and Nik Project X. The first one is stock ICS and the second one is ICS with Sense 4.0. I tried both of em and they work flawlessly on my DHD.

I was getting excellent battery life as well, but I suspect it might be killing my data connection when the phone is asleep.

I like the look of Nik Project X, though the final post on the forum raises an issue with not being able to get HSDPA data speed. I'll keep tabs on that forum and maybe give it a try.

Hmm, haven't really paid attention to that (I 'm mostly on WIFI). I 'll do a speedtest when I get the chance.
Edit: Did a quick test and I 'm getting 3,6Mb down / 1,6Mb up (inside a server room right now so not the best connection). Seems quite normal for my network (7,2Mb is max speed I can get from my provider). Of course the max HSDPA speed is alot higher but that 's something I cannot test.

I've just installed, and recovered my apps, as i've wiped battery calibration i cannot talk about it, but OC is excellent. Even in default frequency the desktop turns without any lags, but as you mentionned, sometime there are some lags (typing on keyboard for instance) but i guess it's linked to the OC profile changing , try in performance instead of on demand, this should solve that.
Regarding the brightness i agree , it seems it change on "i don't know which parameter" from bright to low brightness.. so i've installed Bright day app to set the brightness along the day at low value and i've set on the main desktop the brightness widget to up from system parameters to push it up when i need, then bright day will recover the setting after a while..

So after few days of testing here are my feelings :
Takeing account of deamon set to 1,2Ghz, i can still reach 1d and half near 2days without charging , with a light use :
Allways connected to network though HSDPA (as i take train it often check the network to change the connected cell)
Playing 20-30min 3times a days to Pirates of carabean (3D game multiplayer so connecting to the network)
Surfing a bit
no music
no video
With an harder use i reached 1d wake up to sleep:
still same network condition
playing double time at least (1 to 1,5h 3times a days)
Surfing more (1h)
no music an no video
using battery eater apps (windguru) a bit
to resume my feeling on battery is excelent, i've noticed a light improvement on idle battery drop, a bit accelerated over time (due certainly to used app remaining processes.
Let's go now to the issue i've noticed :
-Back tactil button doesn't work on phone screen while it works everywhere else
-Using smoth rosie to supersmooth show a light display trouble when reducing the app drawer windows (doubling the reducing animation)
-Light keyboard trouble doubling the A letter some time (like if the touchscreen has been typed twice when its not the case)
-blackout tweak shortcut from top task bar doesn't linked (need to go through the app drawer to access it)
-Folder creation missing from widget/app shortcut addition screen (or i didn't found it) , i use the moving app on another icon to create it (i don't know if it's the ICS new way of creating folder on desktop)
The plus i've found (don't know if it's an ICS feature) : create a folder in the lower task bar : can jump from 4 shortcut to full app contained in your phone accessible from the locked screen : I loved that !
The overall impression is really great and for an old phone that "doesn't give a good experience of ICS" following HTC, i feel this ROM fullfill my expectation from ICS on my Desire HD !

Btw, testing further again, i've found the sms issue (from my point of view it was linked to transferring sms not to content,) I'll give a try to the 3.1 to chek this out

Yes. Some can't send at all. Some have data drop in and out while sending and some have no issues. Seems weird to me since the hardware is supposed to be the same for the most part. I think apn and radio combo has the most to do with it.

Love this ROM...
This ROM would be my daily driver if the Wifi hot-spot worked. Has anyone found a work-around or fix? Wifi Tether didn't work either btw. I know it's WIP by the devs but they said it wasn't a major priority for them (Boooooo lol) Fingers crossed for v3.2

As noticed recently in the official thread, i've also noticed the magical battery jumps, i first guessed it was linked to the battery calibration wipe i've done before to flash the Blackout3.0 rom, but i can sometime still see this trouble also.
It happen even phone is in use but every time inbetween 30 and 5 percent of battery left. it goes down to low then readjust it to an higher value without any reason.
The phenomen come back lately less often, but maybe devs can check this out. I'm running on a SFR Desire HD recognized as an incredible S on the 3.0 rom.
