[Q] Device's OTG support and which cable? - LG Optimus G (International)

Hello guys,
Is there any of you try to connect external disk (microsd) over OTG?
Technic service is replying our question (LG Turkey) that this model was supporting OTG.
But some of my friends tried some kind of OEM OTG cables (from local shops) but not worked with our G.
For example same cable worked with galaxy S3.
Can we use OTG function in this device? if yes, how? (direct, root, custom rom...) and which cable? (trademark, link...)
Is there any last user experience with this issue?
Thanks allready...

No, you can't use OTG on OG. The only way (but not guaranteed) is to convert your OG to Nexus 4 and then install kernel with OTG support, but it's very risky and never confirmed if works.

And quoted from this:

"The USB port has yet another feature - it enables USB On-The-Go. You'll need an adapter for that too (again, there isn't one in the box) but this one is fairly straight forward - you plug it into the Optimus G and plug a standard USB cable on the other end."

It was said long time ago, that this review is lying. OTG doesn't work on OG, it's confirmed by many users.
And cable strictly for OG is just a fake cause every device has the same micro-USB ports so every cable would work with every device only if they have OTG support.

RJ45 USB will it work ?

Will the USB Connector support a USB RJ45?
I guess a driver will be needed
Reason for asking is because i need a tablet that i can wire up and i want to get the Tab 10.1
I would love to see this work too.
It does not support RJ45 adapter for internet.

HUMMM, not sure if i am willing to accept that..
It must be a way we can make it happen.
If you need to connect to a RJ45 jack, I suggest getting a "LAN to WiFi Hotspot" Adapter like the LogiLink Wireless LAN Mini AP Router. You can get one for about 22€ and it's a great, little travel device for use in hotels that only offer internet via LAN. For me that's a much more convenient solution than trying to put my tablet on a leash.

I'm not sure that we can dismiss this that easily?
the drivers exist for android as shown for the asus / honeycomb 3.2

I have ordered the USB adapter and am currently looking for one of the listed supported usb to ethernet devices hopefully will be testing this before the end of next week on both domestic and commercial networks.
Fingers Crossed.

Not to my knowledge, so that is why i am thinking if i can take the usb host Adapter and connect a usb RJ45...
Ok I habe two usb to ethernet adapters one shows as a high powered device and the other as an unknown device.
Speaking to my local linux expert he says the kernel I have has some axis drivers built in and I need to either get that exact adapter or a kernel which doesn't have drivers already built in so I can insert my own.
So not lost yet but the battle continues.

These work well for lan connections in hotels:-

R
If you're talking about hotels and such (NOT corporate, where WiFi will face policy issues) -
Almost any cheap wifi router will work if you need to bridge a hardwire LAN. Honest, for the cost you're spending on hardware and headache... $25 for a cheap router and you're done.
Just remember - if you plan to actually bridge them (plugging the LAN into the PC ports, NOT the cablemodem port as you'd do at home), remember to turn off the router's DHCP before doing so.

This is what i needed! Ordering USB addon to my Tab and a usb rj45, and when all is received its time for some kernel playing!!
Will keep this tread updated
Final update on this one, we have had it working using the Samsung 30 pin to USB and a Axis USB to ethernet dongle.
This worked on version 3.1 as the driver from the asus transformer thread was written for that kernel when we updated to 3.2 it all went wrong.
Recently i have been doing some work with Samsung mobility and they have escalated this to the researchers in Korea they removed the support on purpose from the standard 3.2 rom as there was a feeling it wasn't required.
However they are currently looking at if they can include it in the ICS release and are also looking at how complicated it is to create us a dock which has a Ethernet port built in given i want to get 250 galaxies working on a wired connection. Obviously if they create it for us they would also release it for general sale in some way which would be a massive win for the galaxy and the potential for use within the IT industry.
@Banathe, can you tell Me how it went with Samsung mobility. I have the same situation. Client wants some about 300 devices, but also wants the ability to access LAN (to configure TV boxes through tablet, and this can be done only by LAN cable). Can You tell me exactly with which tablet and adapter You managed to have a connection and what is a result of Your research?

I need a USB OTG(on-the-go)Host Cable

Hi Guys I like to find a USB OTG (on-the-go) cable to be able to connect all this stuff(for example External Hard Disks,Key Boards, ect.) into the Galaxy Note or any other USB host Samsung Galaxy Device(like my Galaxy S3)Please I need recomendations I do a search don't find to mush for the G Note just for the Motorola Xoom I plan to read that also to see can work

Just get one off eBay. Theyre like 1 dollar. Every OTG Cable will work. You wont need a specific one for the Note.

USB OTG Connectivity

I bought a Galaxy s3 USB OTG cable (Female USB A to Micro USB Male) and it does not recognize anything that I plug into it. Does anyone know if the USB Host functionality has been removed from the Sprint version of this phone? I want to know before I just assume that it's a defective cable.
I used USB OTG for everything on both Stock and Cyanogenmod. I think you have a defective cable. One of the main features is actually OTG support.
I think your best bet is getting this cable since it's $0.67 with free shipping and it pretty much works for everyone.
Just played a game with Xbox controller and OTG and it was really cool. Hopefully you'll be able to share my experience.

Are you using a Sprint Galaxy S3? I ask because it seemed that the OTG feature was disabled in the Galaxy S2, so I wasn't sure if Sprint would also disable it in the Galaxy S3. From my searching on-line, it seems that those using the T-Mobile and AT&T Galaxy S3 variants are able to connect with USB OTG. For 68 cents, I might as well try ordering another one.

Yeah, Sprint. It worked on stock and on custom ROMs. I use the exact same cable and it works 100%.
Did they have a reason to disable it on the SGS2? I'm wondering why on earth they'd do that.

Not sure why they disabled it because it seems pretty illogical to do that. I ordered the cable, and hopefully in a month I'll be able to see if it ends up working. I'm hoping that it's a problem with the cable and not a problem with my phone.
I was able to get FAT32 thumb drives and my Canon camera to work. USB keyboards and mice did not. NTFS drives did not work either, even though I used a mounting app that makes it work on my tablet.

USB-OTG Cable for Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos.

Hi all! I would like to buy a USB OTG(on the go) cable for my mobile. I tried with the OTG Cables available in stores. But they ain't working. I found out that our mobile do not support OTG. The male part of cable has one pin extra compared to the original USB cable. So I just wanted to know if we could but it online or from the store. And yes, I live in India ; Mumbai. I had an idea of buying a female to female cable and connecting one side to USB and other with USB cable to phone. Thanks in advance.:thumbup:

i read the same article, the article explained how to use your old charger cable as otg cable or manually creating an otg cable at home.
i checked and verified by opening my own otg cable and found the same circuit as the circuit shown in that image.
i was wondering if the phone is not sending any power to the cable/pen drive.

USB Adapter Discussion & Comments

Since the new model tablet does not have the 30-pin charging port, does anyone know if they are developing a mini USB charging adapter that can accommodate a full size USB pen drive, stick, etc...
With the understanding this tablet is new and not very many people have it yet, I thought I would put that question out there, thoughts?

Now all you need is for the tablet to have OTG support. For some reason this is always a big question mark.
I have a USB OTG cable and have used it often with my Galaxy Nexus, but depending on the ROM I had to install an app (that needs root - by chainfire I believe) for it to work. So I wouldn't be too surprised if USB OTG didn't work out of the box.

Maybe this works better on non-AOSP devices. As far as I know, Samsung also has their own Bluetooth drivers too, for example. Maybe this is a similar situation, I don't really know. I've never owned a non-Nexus device, I'm sure someone else with more experience with Samsung devices can clarify this for us.
I tested USB storage and it's working .. but maybe selective
Tried 5 sticks .. 4 worked except a Sony thumb drive gave USB is blank and it's led only blinked for a second.
Also noticed that processor got hot quickly.. as it opened the file explorer or maybe it's the media server and indexing
I've used the otg cable with a mouse successfully

Hi.
Has anyone tried external hard drives, do you recognize?
Thank you!
i've tried 4 different portable hd's from 320 to 1.5TB. it recongizes the device and spins them up, but they're all ntfs. i can't even get paragon to mount them. i also tried my hacked powered usb otg (made it for rooting the chromecast) and still the same results. if we can get a kernel with ntfs support it should work fine.
