Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protector--not available anymore? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I bought a couple of these a while ago and I've gone through the 2 that come in a pack (2 lasted me over a year) and they were the best screen protectors I've ever used on any phone. They are super clear and feel great on the fingertips. Does anyone know where they might be available? I ordered them from amazon originally for 13.99 but it's no longer available, and it looks like Spigen doesn't carry any screen protectors at all for the E4GT as they've moved on to more recent phones.
I'll be getting a new phone in about 6 months anyways but I'd still like to keep this one protected. It will go to my 3 year old son when I upgrade (he loves playing games on it) so it will be in constant danger of scratches! Haha

Awww.. nobody knows of another source? This was the best screen protector ever! I should have ordered a couple sets.

Do I really need a Screen Protector for Captivate?

Hi,
Is the Capacitative screen of this phone is scratch resistant like iPhone? I was able to use my iPhone for 2years without getting a scratch on screen. I am awaiting my phone in mail, was thinking of buying accesories...
Thank you
I won't be getting a protector for mine. As long as you are careful, you'll be fine.
Even people with ocd make mistakes. Get the case from att and a screen protector. Protect your investment. Trust me.

Very true. And that whole scratch protector is kinda a lie. You can see pics/vids where the iPhone screen is pretty scratched.
No offense to anyone posting on this topic but I do not understand the purchase of accessories from AT&T or any other provider store. Items for these phones can be purchased significantly cheaper from online.
I bought a box of cut-to-size screen protectors for $5 from amazon and it has lasted our family through several phones and replacements. Touch screen function is not hindered and clarity is perfectly fine.
Though I use screen protectors, I do not believe in phone cases. I feel a phone is built to fit the users hand and cases add unwanted bulk that I don't like. Accidents do happen but in most situations you will cause no more than cosmetic damage. Use some sense when handling your phone and it should last until your next.
I remember recently having a "discussion" with my wife as to why she paid more to get a white iphone and then put a case on it. This baffled me to the point of agitation and I had to drop the conversation.
If really concerned, just get insurance through your provider or home insurance company. At least until the phone price drops after the next big release.
Thanks
Thanks for the replies, will be getting a case any way, still thinking of screen protector...

QFT on all that. I bought like 6 from Ebay China for like $1 and they work better than Apple's $10 ones.

That's a calculated risk.
Is spending $5/mo with a $50 deductible worth it versus spending $30 for a case???
You obviously have not used any good cases. Not all cases are like Otterbox and add half a pound to the weight and an inch to the thickness... SwitchEasy was my favorite when I had my iPhone. Waiting for something similar on the Captivate now.
I'm debating this as well.
I got the body glove case from att and a pack of screen protectors. The att rep put it on for me bubble free. I keep the case on when i am out and take it off at my desk at work. The phone is beautiful. The screen protector is more finger friendly and shows no smudges.
Definitely get a screen protector. Accidents happen, no matter how careful you are. And I would suggest a body glove of some type, again, accidents happen.
What brand of screen protector do you guys recommend?

aaaaaaaaahhhhhaha white iphone with a case. i lol'd. women eh?
with ur statement on bulk, get one with a minimalistic design. a case not only protect ur phone but look sexy too. if you scratch a case you can replace it hangin on to that sex appeal. scratch a phone and ur sol. Also good condition is important for resale
oh but if ur really against cases just get one like leather case that you only keep it in while ur not using it
Case:
I understand both sides. I guess "accidentally" putting my phones through more punishment than I thought they would endure has given me excess confidence in their physical design. I am a fan of the "phone pocket" now in most jeans and cargo pants. It is comfortable and easy to grab (also stays low to the ground). I would like to take some advice and get a nice case but I guess my wife's iPhone cases have already left me disapproving and I hate to add bulk, but maybe I'll try again. I'll admit the Captivate is a bit "smooth."
Screen Protector:
There is not to much to argue about here. I wouldn't worry about brand.
1. Does it stick to the screen?
2. Is it clear?
3. Does it fit?
If you answer YES to all three of these then it is a good screen protector.
If you answer NO to any one of these questions, KEEP SHOPPING.
I'll take a look later to see what brand the box is I have at home so I can post it.
Slim but durable cases are possible. Just very few companies put forth the effort to engineer one.
Switch Easy, they only make for iProducts but when I had my 3GS it was great. A thin rubber around the outside (protect it from shocks and also keeps the case itself from scratching it), then you snap a horizontal then a vertical case that form into one hard case... It was very thin (nothing like the bulk of an Otterbox), yet I think you could have thrown it across the room and the phone been fine.
I recommend the invisibleShield by Zagg. Had one on my iphone and totaled out a work van by flipping it with the phone sitting on the dash. Was one single mark on the iphone screen and it came off when I put a new Shield on it. I was impressed. It feels a bit rubbery for a screen protector at first but never noticed any impedance with touch sensitivity. Costs a bit more then normal protectors as well but again well worth it if you ask me.
Just got home and looked at the protectors I have. The brand is WRITERIGHT (universal screen protectors)
A set of 10 was dirt cheap ($3) and I have been using them for about 2 years. They are cut-to-fit and will cover the entire face of the captivate.

hello all. first post on here. just got my captivate last saturday and still waiting for martin fields to make a screen protector for this phone. they are a lil pricey, but totally worth it.
Well when I picked up my Captivate, I picked up the Body Glove Silicone Case from ATT because I prefer to keep any new devices in a silicone/gel style case for some protection. My sister and mom picked up the Captivate after they played with mine on Sunday *7-19-2010* and called me last night to set up my mom's phone and install a screen protector *3x for $ 9.99 at the corporate att store in my area*, for installing the sp and transfering the contacts *manually* and setting up gmail, I got a SP for free for my captivate for 15 minuets worth of work. Not too bad and I am a little more less worried then the last 2 days..

Wow, 16 replies and not one answer to the original question about the Glass.
Many devices like Microsoft Zunes have a special hardened Glass, you can use keys, knives, razor blades etc to it and not scratch them. If a screen protector makes you warm and fuzzy go for it, but if this device (I don't yet know what Glass it has) has "that" Glass then its a waste of money. It's going to take a hell of a hit to break it, and a sceen protector wont prevent that.
You can read about such glass here:
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2009/04/glass-screen-durability-test-a-lesson-on-the-mohs-hardness-scale.php
I ran a screen protector on my HTC Hermes for years, and hated it. Finally removed it last year and love it. And no scratches. (Case has flip cover for when its in your pocket) A lot more depends on how you treat it. I have 4 sons, 2 of them seem to destroy electronics, 2 of them don't.

Perhaps because nobody knows? And also nobody is going to scratch their expensive device just to find out.

[VIDEO] Droid X Argyle TPU Case Review

I made a video review this morning for the Droid X Argyle TPU Cases. I used a Droid 2 to record it, so the video quality isn't quite professional quality
For some reason on all the videos I've made on the Droid 2, the first 2-3 seconds have a high pitch whine in the audio. Anyone else had that problem?

i just ordered this from ebay for about $3 shipped. sure it's from hong kong, but my droid x won't be shipping til at least the 3rd so i can wait.

Yes you can get them cheaper if your willing to wait a few weeks, but if you already have your phone that could be a costly mistake, as who knows how many times you might drop it the cheapest US seller I could find was selling them for $7.95 shipped.
i'll agree with that. get selling!
also since you do have them, couple of questions. are they a soft material like those silicone cases? do they have a rubberized finish so that they don't slide much?

They are softer then a crystal poly carb case, but harder then the rubber/silicone case. These have a smooth finish, so they don't grip like the silicone cases do -- which personally i like, since its easier to take out of my pocket. but others might like more grip. the main advantages i see to TPU over silicone is they don't sag like the silicone ones do, they don't pick up lint, and they are easy to clean.

Glad to hear it! I love my TPU case. The design is so simple compared to cases I've used in the past (Speck CandyShell, SwitchEasy Capsule Rebel, etc). Seems to provide almost as much protection with 1/2 the bulk! Considering how big these phones are, slim cases are a must in my opinion.
yeah! i just got mine in!! i am very pleased with the cases! they have a nice grip but smooth enough to slide in and out of my jeans/dress pant pockets with NO LINT! thanks for the extremely fast shipping!
i have some pics of my new droid x w/case
awesome! 2 satisfied customers
Which do you like better, the clear or the smoke? I seem to be selling considerably more of the smoke then any other color. Not much demand for Red or Orange. Maybe come Halloween the Orange will be selling like hotcakes!
haha!! i am leaning toward the smoke! it's a nice dark color that matches the droid very nicely! and the argyle print is subtle on the smoke. I do like the clear though! its a nice change of pace. I can understand the low demand for orange haha. its a bold color! now all we need are some bold people!
I would totally buy an orange one if Verizon lets me upgrade (Clemson Tiger fan). My contract isn't up until next summer, but I got an early upgrade offer in the mail today on any smartphone. It's not showing up online, so I'll have to call tomorrow and find out if I'm really going to be eligible. The fine print on the offer says I must be 180 days into a contract, which I am. Will let you know how it goes!

I was thinking of marketing some of the colors to different sports fans earlier today. i put up an eBay listing with the word "vikings" in the title for the purple case. I live in WI so I should be able to sell some Red to the Badger fans! good luck with early upgrade. sprint lets me upgrade every year since I'm a preferred customer (whatever that means). thats pretty awesome if you can upgrade after only 180 days! do you have multiple lines on your account or something?

We have four lines on our account. Three of the four lines were listed on the package as eligible, as long as they are upgraded by August 31st. I have never received an offer of this sort before the X.
well that would certainly make you a "preferred customer" in my book! i wonder if they are worried about people jumping ship for the iphone 4, and are offering early upgrades? although you'd have to be a fool to leave verizon and their droid x for at&t and the iphone in my opinion!
still haven't gotten mine. phone should be in monday. perhaps case will be in then too lol. if not then i may just have to order for you. need a second case anyway for my car mount.
Wow, my new shipment arrived super fast. Shipped from Honk Kong at 11:00pm at night 8/3 and is scheduled for delivery this morning 8/5! Man DHL is impressive. Apparently they clear packages through customs in the air, logistics at its finest!
So smoke is back in stock... or will be in the next hour.
Are these the same cases as DCMUGEN? If they are will you be carrying the screen protectors too? I had already ordered my case before I saw this post but if you are going to carry the screen protectors I will order them from you.

I've been considering ordering screen protectors and selling them as package deal, but i haven't yet. No, these are not the same as the DCMugen cases, those have 1 large cutout on the back, which many people have complained about (I get people emailing asking to verify that mine don't have one large cutout). The ones I have have 2 smaller cutouts, leaving less of the phone exposed. Thanks

I got the same thing in the mail a few days ago, and stopped at a nearby store Wednesday. After talking to the salesguy for a few minutes I realized I knew more about the phones than he did, and stopped asking questions and just told him I would buy the Droid X and to please order one for me... But yeah, my contract isn't supposed to be up until like early next fall, late summer, something like that, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the notice in the mail! I have a Touch Pro2 right now, and I just hate it. It's my second WinMo phone, and the frequent performance problems just annoy the crap out of me (I'm running the stock 6.5 ROM just cause I'm too scared of bricking it), so I'm making the jump to Android.

I just got my DCMugen case and it does not have 1 large cutout on the back. It looks exactly like your case. I'm not trying to tear you down, because I would have ordered from you if I had seen this before I ordered from him.
DCMugen is cheaper (by about $4), but you will get your case much slower (took about 2 weeks to get mine from him).

Platnum Series vs. Otterbox?

Has anyone used this case before?
If I get one I'm considering saving 20$ off the cost of an otterbox in favor of that, plus not having to wait on shipping would be epic since my local best buy has one.
One other question does it have a screen protector built into the case? I know otterbox on the defender series has it built right into the case which imho is very nice.. It would be worth me paying another 20$ to not screw up putting a screen protector on.
*Edit*
Sorry was suppose to be in accessories section.. bleh >.<;

otterbox does not have built in screen protector, they removed it because it effected sensitivity or some crap. just bought an otterbox defender and I think it's worth the extra 20. IMO dropped it from a ladder today, no issues. however I know what you mean about applying screen protector, i ruined the one that came with the otterbox trying to put it on.
That is crap.. I mean, it works perfectly with my moms Iphone 4 and my step dads iphone 4..
Infact I've never heard of anyone having ANY problems with it..
Maybe it has to do with swype?
Or people just have to gripe about one of the major selling points of a device..
I know some people are good at putting on screen protectors but, I am not.. never have been.. I will end up wasting 20$ on a pack of screen protectors and none of them ever sticking properly...

I prefer the Platinum case over the otter box...The belt holder is very strong and secure..and the case offers a good amount of protection from everyday dents & dings.I've dropped mine a few times from waist hieght onto the screen side..and onto the edge..No issues..no damage..As to the screen protectors..the best one I have found is what you can buy at any AT&T store..I just asked the sales folks who is the best at installing them..and let them do it for me...
I had the defender when I owned a Sprint Hero..they are a great case too..but for my taste now... add way too much bulk to whatever phone it is on. They offer more protection than the Platinum case..but that comes with having to lug around all of the extra bulk from the case..If you need that level of protection...then get it..if you don't..go with the platinum..both are very good.

Yes...it fits extremely well and holds up well as well. This screen protector is thicker than the generic type you have to trim to fit.It does not hinder the case..nor does it inhibit the touch capability of the the screen. I think they sell them for a for $9.99...I get about 3-4 months heavy useage out of first 1 before I had at&t switched it last week
Mac
I put an otterbox impact series case on mine last week, came with a screen protector that went on flawlessly. So well in fact you can't even tell it's there and it's smudge proof. Bought it on Amazon for $10, noticed it's $12 now.
I am probably just gunna have the guy at at&t install one for me..
WIll either get a platnum series case from bestbuy..
Or order the seidio active one since I like it aesthetically.
you can get the defender @ the same price on Amazon

Here was I would recommend....
Go to your Best Buy and ask if you can test it out on your phone. If you like the feel of it then get it. If not, I would recommend getting the OtterBox Commuter Case which I believe is sold at Best Buy as well.
if you want the commuter it can be had cheaper than the platinum.
http://www.amazon.com/Otterbox-Comm...TJFI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294427693&sr=8-1
I have the seidio rugged holster and case. Great buy, and loads of protection. If you don't know(i didn't for a while) seidio is the company that makes the platinum case . The rugged combo is the platinum case under two extra layers of protection. Didn't see it in best buy, but it was on amazon for fifty bucks . Highly recommend it.

[Q] Any suggestions about best screen protectors?

Hello, everyone
I bought my vibrant days ago, after that, I'm looking for screen protectors. And I've tried two kinds from ebay and amazon. But I found that bost of them are not fit with vibrant(although they said it does), they are smaller than the screen(shorter). So just a waste of my money.
Now, I'm asking for suggestions. Which screen protectors as you know is the best? fit the screen very well and can protect the screen well?
Thanks
BTW: the brand I bought from amazon is amzer! this one is not a good one, the size has problem
there's actually already a thread on best sp in this section, just search for it. But I recommend steinheil or realook b/c they have some of the best clarity and fit on the vibrant closely. The only downside is that they cost $10-13 for a pack but you get the best bang for your buck with them.

thanks, the amzer also cost me $10 but worth nothing!
I'm almost 6 months into my Realook, and it's still awesome. You get two for about $10 at Amazon, and their customer service is top notch.
Two bits of advice, don't bend it too much when you apply it, or you'll get a nasty rainbow effect under fluorescent light. Do it right and you can't even tell it's there.
Also they come with the two sides marked for how you should apply it (Side 1 faces out, side 2 sticks to the glass). I've ended up being the guy that has to apply these to everyone's phone, and I've learned that it's much easier if you peel off side 2 and stick it to the phone first, then remove side 1.
The nice thing about Realook, as I mentioned before, is their CS. After I screwed up the first round (bent it a little too much) they sent me two more for free.

invisishield is the only to go... there like 20 bucks at bestbuy... they got a cool gel feel too em too...
ive bought 3 packs of the "tmo's vibrant" screen protectors and went through em so quick... there 15 for two... and they last maybe a few months... im currently not using any protector.... i got a spare vibrant from my brother so if i **** this one up... i got a new one waiting for me
Go with realook, I have ordered at least 10 for different devices. Three for my Vibrant. The only drawback is the leaves oily prints from your fingers, no biggie a quick wipe fixes that. But when clean it you can't even tell its there.
just ordered another set of realook.
this one lasted me 4-5 months. got my money's worth.
11 bucks + free shipping off amazon.
keys and phone must not be in the same pocket I dunno why that's so hard for me to do..
Thanks,all
I've ordered 2p realook

[Q] Skinomi or Zagg screen protector?

As stated in the object, based on your experience which one would you suggest me for this beautiful phone?
Thank you..
Never used Skinomi but zagg is pretty good, used it on my atrix
Never liked zagg, it turns yellow and grungy. I have had them replace it a few times but it sucks that I need to pay shipping on a warranty.
Ive used neither. I have ordered a skinomi in anticipation of getti g my nexus hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 using powers of the unicorn.
Oh forgot to mention, i usually order a bunch of el cheapos from hong kong. Premium protectors usually do last longer, but if you find some decent cheap ones it can be more economical. I usually get 5 for $4 shipped from hk, and the skinomi i just ordered was $6 for one. Usually 2 or 3 premium ones are $10-$15. Doing the math and usually changing protectors about every 6 weeks id rather buy 10 from hk and that will last the life of the phone.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 using powers of the unicorn.
I've always been a big fan of ZAGG protectors. I have them on most of my devices. They can be a REAL pain to apply, but once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. I've never had a problem with them. I did screw up an installation once.. was a bit too aggressive with the squeegee, left a bunch of marks, but they were nice enough to ship me a free replacement
This time, I'm trying Skinomi. Mainly because ZAGG now charges a ridiculous shipping fee for Canada ($17 on a 12$ protector!!). Whereas Skinomi ships for free to Canada.
Anyways whichever you decide, here are some lovely coupon codes
skinomi: get25 (25% off)
zagg: youmobile (cant remember but it was 3$ off my order)
I ordered a Zagg. Also have one on my Vibrant and I'm used to it. Very durable and wipes clean since it does collect smudges easily. Replacement warranty is good, too.

I always use Zagg on all my electronics. JSYK www.zagg.com is running 50% off today and tomorrow site wide and free shipping for orders over $29.99. I got my GN and full body MacBook Air shiel for $34.99 shipped.
I was using Zagg Invisibleshield in my last 2 devides (Nokia E61 and currently the Nexus).
However, I bought the LG Nexus 4 yesterday, and I wanted to buy the Hi-Def Insisible Shield (not available yet to Nexus 4).
Because of that, I will try a different protection and buy the Skinomi for a change (front and back cover).

Tested zagg before. Lasted less than a month. Hate the feel, hate the orange peel, hate the yellowish color. Bought skinomi and everything was better

I bought a zagg screen protector at radioshack last week for $4.50 and it looks really nice on the phone
I really like XO protectors. And If you want more economical packaging and save some money you can get a skin from bestskinsever.com. 2.95 shipping in the US

I will never buy anything other than Skinomi protectors anymore. They are really easy to set properly and the protection is great. I've used them on 3 Android phones, all from different manufacturers and they work amazingly.
Never tried Zagg since I started using Skinomi first.

I have an extra skinomi screen protector, with the entire package. I can send it to you for free if you just pay for the shipping.
I don't really like the rubber feel that comes with skinomi/zagg protectors, although it offers probably the maximum amount of protection you can get with screen protectors
I can definitely vouch for skinomi. i've had it for my last two phones, and i don't think id get any other brand. one think that i didn't even realize i appreciated about their protectors after buying an alternate brand is that they make the screen look really nice. they don't take away or interfere with the color at all. very appreciated. got another brand of screen protector when i first got my gn, and its like it put a matte finish on my screen.
i do swear that next time, if i can find someone to put my screen protector on, i will pay them to do it. i am terrible at it apparently. i have tried ALL the tricks. steam.... steam... you name it.
there was a tiny tiny speck of dust that made a little bubble on the screen, and my skinomi was on a bit crooked and it kept creating bubbles in the corners where my case overlapped. it drove me insane, so i just took it off.
i go commando now. screen looks awesome BTW.
